HUMZA DEAS

NYC-based Humza Deas garnered a grassroots following by showcasing his uncanny ability to

access precarious vantage points throughout the urban landscape. Skateboarding opened Deas’

point of view, allowing him to see more potential in his surroundings.

While skaters learn to see more in a set of stairs, a handrail, a stone embankment, Deas took it a step further, literally taking that mindset to new heights

atop bridges, skyscrapers, and other structures where he sought out a ledge or rooftop from which

to take a picture. Nowadays, Deas is distancing himself from the trespassing aspect of his prior work in order to better learn the ins-and-outs of pursuing his career as a fine art photographer

while retaining the out of bounds point of view for which he’s known.

Once an anonymous daredevil, lately you’ve been showing your face and coming out to the world as a fearless creative in the flesh.

Surely you are inspiring thousands of people on the daily,

how does that make you feel?

I can't describe the feeling it brings me to but

it's what keeps me dissatisfied. I will not

settle until we all realize that we can do what ever

we set our minds to.

You just turned 18… What goals do you have for the future of your career in

photography? What would you like to have

accomplished in the next 10 years or so?

A goal that I would like to accomplish in the next 5-

10 years would be to develop a new style of

photography. I think I've already done it honestly.

I'm just still trying to share it so others will soon realize what I've

done.

You are self taught and driven by instinct and passion… What is your

creative process? Where do you seek inspiration?

My creative process usually sparks right before I go to

bed. I start imagining moments worth capturing cinematically and create

the perfect picture wishing that moment. I seek

inspiration from other people who have a totally different art form, I take a

look at their work and become inspired by their

creative expression.
