Dear Friend,

In 2009, we asked ourselves how we could best serve families and reposition the Y for success in the changed

economy. As 2010 began, we had new business practices and lower membership prices in place. These changes, informed

by survey data and an internal audit, stabilized the Y in a time of economic uncertainty. Increased contributions and

membership/program revenue coupled with conservative fi scal management resulted in a signifi cant increase in operating

net assets over 2009.

Our facilities are exceptional. New cardio equipment fi lls our wellness centers. Our water parks are the envy

of other Ys. None of it is as important as members. They’re our most valued asset, and we dedicated ourselves to

creating meaningful experiences for each of them. As staff connected with moms, dads, kids and grandparents, we

saw impressive jumps in camp enrollment and membership retention—factors critical to success.

In July, Y-USA helped us further reinvent ourselves when they unveiled a revitalized brand strategy. Its most visible

component is a refreshed logo that refl ects the Y’s diversity. The framework focuses resources on youth development, healthy

living and social responsibility. For the fi rst time in 43 years, the Y has a new look and voice to communicate its impact.

Several other milestones shaped the year. We opened a state-licensed preschool at Durango Hills and Centennial

Hills. Affordable rates and a strong curriculum contribute to its success; it serves 150 children. We provided our 900th

membership under the Armed Services YMCA and Department of Defense Outreach Initiative, which makes memberships

available to military families. In November, we teamed up with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and University Medical Center

to offer free hands-only CPR training during Save A Life Week. The campaign exposed hundreds of families to the life-

saving skill. To address childhood obesity, we launched Y-Kids. These after-school classes allow parents to focus on their

wellness goals while their kids burn calories in activities like rock wall climbing and yoga.

Momentum is a powerful force. As participation levels at our Ys increased, fundraising followed suit. We raised

a record $859,117. These funds helped us make good on our promise: At the Y, no one is turned away because of an

inability to pay. We gave 26,000 individuals direct fi nancial assistance and kept the Y affordable for thousands more.

This year marks the Y’s 160th anniversary in the United States and the 67th for our association. Our rich

history will give way to many opportunities. We’re poised to open a new center through an exciting private-public

partnership, and make an impact on diabetes prevention when we roll out a structured program, championed by

UnitedHealth Group and the Centers for Disease Control, this fall. The talents of our supportive board members bring

these opportunities to life.

Though the world may be unpredictable, one thing remains certain. The Y is—and always will be—dedicated

to building healthy and confi dent adults, families, kids and communities.

Sincerely,

Rod MartinYMCA Board ChairmanVP & Director of DevelopementMajestic Realty Co.
