Always Ensure the CO2 Levels Are High Enough
CO2 & marine CO2 systems
Marine fires are one of the most dangerous ones in history. Sailing isolated in the open
seas with no shore present up to hundreds of miles, there is very little the crew can do to
save themselves and the ship. Moreover, the goods are completely destroyed and the ship’s
owner company comes under millions of debts at once. It not only has to suffer the loss of a ship which itself is worth a huge fortune, it also has to pay back the price of the goods
to their owners who have trusted their service and handed them goods to be delivered to
some other port.

re can take place on a ship due to many reasons. The changing temperatures and the highly moist and humid climate it sails in can damage most of
the ship’s body and the electric wiring too. To support the thousand horses’ powered engine, it
has to generate electricity enough to supply power to an entire residential block within a city. Such great amount of electricity present inside
the electric cables means a huge blast in case of the tiniest electric short circuit. It can set the
ship ablaze within minutes and there would be too much to handle with too little time and
limited resources. Hence the CO2 & marine CO2 systems can be a lifesaver if
they are present on a ship that has just encountered a fire problem.

Carbon dioxide, as we know it is used in liquefied form filled in single skinned containers to fight fire. Being present in the form of liquid gives it extra thrust and force to be targeted on the flames when needed. Be it in the small fire extinguisher cylinders or the huge ones for the marine fire suppression systems, when it is in the liquid form, it can be released with great pressure. The pressure allows it to reach the
root of the cause of the flames and destroy the flames from their base. Attacking the base means that there is no chance of the fire to
spread more.

Taking measurements on a regular basis of the pressure and the level of the CO2 inside the
cylinders is a must. You never know if there is a leak or when shifts change, how much has been used before. Taking fresh estimations with the ultrasonic liquid level indicator allows the staff
to learn about the actual situation of the fire fighting agent. In the case of lower levels, an
immediate action can be taken by replacing with the completely filled cylinders or to order a refill
if there is enough time for it.
