The place

Engstligenalp is situated in the Alps close to Adelboden Switzerland, 1964 m above sea level. It is a beautiful and peaceful place surrounded by high mountains and it is famous for having plenty of snow until spring!

To reach Engstligenalp, take a spectacular ride on the cable car from Adelboden.

The Winter Activities

The travelling

We recommend planning your trip so that you arrive as early as possible on Friday. That will give you time to enjoy the day with all the fun activities in the snow! The cable car is leaving for the Engstligenalp every 15 minutes until 5.00 pm. If you do not have extra time to arrive ahead of the evening program, it is best when you arrive before 7.00 pm in Adelboden, Unter dem Birg on Friday evening (cable car leaves at 7.15pm). An emergency option is the very last cable car at 8.30 pm. However, we cannot guarantee that there will be any fondue left if you arrive at that time (see program below).

If you arrive by car

It is the least complicated if you travel by car, possibly by forming ride sharing with friends that come along from your country. Plan your trip to Adelboden, Unter dem Birg, which is the valley station of the cable car to the Engstligenalp. A free parking lot is available. Please remember your winter tires to be prepared for eventual snow or ice on the street!

If you arrive by plane

The airports of Zurich, Basel and Geneva are all suitable for your arrival. To reach Engstligenalp from the airport, you can take the train (see below), rent a car or organize ride sharing with other participants. As soon as the participants’ list is complete we will connect participants among each other so that people arriving at the same airport or crossing the boarder nearby could possibly share a car.

If you arrive by train

Buy your ticket to the bus station Adelboden, Unter dem Birg. The train and bus ride is a little bit long but the spectacular mountain scenery of the Bernese Alps will entertain you! Check http://www.sbb.ch for schedules (also available in English). There will be no bus after 5.20 pm from Adelboden, Post to Adelboden, Unter dem Birg. If you arrive between 5.20 pm and 7 pm at Adelboden, Post let us know and we will organize a shuttle service.



The packing list

- Warm winter clothes and winter gear! Be prepared to temperatures below zero!

- Gloves and cap

- Good and warm shoes: Snow boots or hiking boots!

- Sun glasses and/or snow goggles

- Your memories of your IAAS time! We have a time window reserved where you can perform

photo or movie presentations. Please let us know in advance if you would like to do a

presentation. There is also space to hang photos or posters.

The participation fee (Currency conversion: 1 CHF ~ 0.82 EUR)

1. Double room with private WC/shower ---> 230 CHF (total of 8 rooms available)

2. Double room with shared WC/shower ---> 210 CHF (8 rooms available)

3. Quadruple room with shared WC/shower ---> 200 CHF (1 room available)

4. 8x-room with shared WC/shower ---> 190 CHF (4 rooms available)

Included in the participation fee is the cable car ticket, accommodation for Friday- and

Saturday night, all food, the presentation of the Frutigtaler Bärgprodukte and the visit to the

Tropic House in Frutigen.

Please note: Insurance is the responsibility of the participant.
