SPECIFICATION(CIVIL WORK)

NOTE:

1. The work shall be carried out according to these specification whether specifically mentioned elsewhere or not. No extra in any form will be paid unless it is definitely stated as an item in the Bill of Quantities.

Whenever the specification are not given or when the specification are ambiguous, the relevant Indian Standards or British Standards and further amendments will be considered as final and binding.

2. The work shall be related to the drawing which the Contractor is presumed to have studied. Nothing extra will be paid for any item because of its shape, location or other difficult circumstances, even if the schedule makes no distinction, as long as the item is shown in the drawing.

3. The source of materials stated in the specifications are those from which materials are

generally available. However, materials not conforming to specifications shall be rejected even if they come from the stated sources. The Contractor should satisfy himself that sufficient quantity of materials of acceptable specification from the stated or other sources.

4. "Owner" shall mean Nepal Telecom.

5. "Site Incharge" shall mean the employees deputed by the owner.

6. The requirements of the specifications under (A) GENERAL, (B) MATERIALS shall be fulfilled by the Contractor without extra charge i.e. the item rates quoted shall be deemed to have taken these specifications into account.

(A) GENERAL

1. Office Accommodation and WC for Contractor The Contractor shall provide at his own expense adequate temporary accommodation and

toilet facilities for his workmen and keep the same in good order. This may be done to suit site condition with the approval of Site Incharge. The above mentioned temporary structures shall be removed on the completion of work at Contractor's own cost. All materials shall belong to the contractor.

2. Boards A board of size approximately 215cm x 200cm shall be made and put at an approved place

on the site. This board shall be painted in approved colour with names of (a) The proposed construction and Owner (b) the Contractor. This shall be provided by the Contractor at his own expense.

and the Contractor shall arrange to test materials and or portions of the work at his own cost in order to prove their soundness and sufficiency. If after any work or position of work is found to be defective or unsound, the Contractor shall pull down and re execute the same at his own cost. Defective materials shall be removed from the site.

4 Preparing & Clearing the Site

The site described and shown on the plans plus 3m(10 ft) wall around the building shall be cleared of all obstructions, loose stones and materials, rubbish of all kinds as well as brushwood. All holes or hollows whether originally existing or produced by removal of loose stone or brushwood shall be carefully filled up with earth, well rammed and levelled off as directed. Also the Contractor shall dress the site 3m (10ft) all round the building after completion, maximum cutting or filling being 30cms (12 inches). No extra shall be paid for this.

5 Trees

No trees, saplings shall be removed/cut without prior permission of the Owner. If any tree has to be cut, this shall form an extra item. For the purpose of the specification, a tree shall be defined as growth whose circumference of the trunk at 30cm (1'-0") from the base is not less than 90cm (3'-0").

6 Measuring Materials

Materials requiring measuring shall be measured separately in boxes of appropriate sizes before being mixed.

7 Temporary Protection

All trenches, walls newly laid, concrete or other work requiring protection from weather or accidental injury shall be protected by means of tarpaulin or in any other way so as to keep the work immune from damage. Nothing extra shall be paid for on this matter.

8 Quality of Work

Materials, tools and plants, and workmanship shall be the best of several kinds obtainable in the market and as approved by the Site Incharge.

9 Leave Clean:

On completion, all work must be cleaned down, rubbish removed and the works and land cleared of rubbish, surplus materials. debris and other accumulations and everything left in a clean and orderly condition.

10. Samples

Samples of each class of work required shall be submitted by the Contractor for the approval of the Site Incharge and after such approval these samples shall be deposited at a place chosen by the Site Incharge. The Contractor will be required to perform all work under the contract in accordance with these approved samples.

11. Provisional Items

All provisional items in the schedule shall be carried out at the discretion of the Site Incharge, and may or may not form part of the contract, the rates shall be settled as for extra items as stated in the conditions of contract.

12. Storage

Safe, dry and proper storage shall be provided for all materials, particularly cement. For cement storage capacity should be equal to at least one fourth the total quantity to be used but may not exceed 40 tonne (i.e. 800 bags). If silosite is installed at the site of work the site incharge may reduce the capacity of storage.

(B). MATERIALS

13. Water :

Water shall be clean and free from oil, waste, acid or other organic matter in solution or suspension. Water shall be from municipal main or tank or well water. storage for the water shall be of sufficient size and as directed by the site incharge. The contractor shall make his own arrangement for supply of water.

14. Earth

Earth for filling and terracing shall be free from all rubbish, organic or vegetable growth including roots, weeds etc. All clods shall be first broken down.

15. Sand

The fine aggregate (sand) shall conform to either IS 383-1970 or, IS 515-1959. Sand shall be clean river or pit sand of approved quality and free from salt, earth, dust or other impurities. Sand containing more than 4 to 6% of clay, dust and silt shall be washed with clean water. Sand for all cement concrete works must be coarse. Medium sand may be used in cement mortar for masonry, plastering, pointing etc & bituminous work of road.Sand filling in plinth, where specified may be done with fine sand. The fineness modulus of fine sand should not be less than one.

16. Portland Cement

Ordinary Portland cement shall conform to IS 269-1976. Cement should be fine. Its chemical composition, consistency, tensile and compressive strength, soundless, setting time must be according to I.S. It should be packed in gunny bags or waterproof paper bags and should be free from lumps. It should be stored in a weatherproof building on a floor at least 30cm high from floor level. It should be stacked 60 cm clear from the walls, and

stored in such manner that permits of easy access of inspection. It should also stacked in not more than 6 layers high to prevent bursting of bottom bags.

17. Stone

Stone for rubble masonry shall be of the best of its kind. It shall be strong, angular, free from flakes and must be of quality approved by the site incharge. No earthy or discoloured, weather or water worm stone shall be used. Stone in foundations shall be from local quarries or from any other place as approved by the site incharge. Stone for stone masonry shall be of the type specified. It shall be hard, sound, durable free from decay and weathering. Stone with round surface shall not be used. Before starting of work, the contractor shall get the sample of stone approved by the site incharge. Size of the stones shall be as specified.

18. Cement Mortar

Cement mortar shall be of proportions specified for each type of work in the schedule. It shall be composed of Portland cement and sand. The ingredients shall be accurately gauged by measure and shall be well and evenly mixed together in a mechanical pan mixer, care being taken not to set shall be used. River sand shall be used unless otherwise specified. If hand is allowed then it shall be done in brick tanks. The gauged materials shall put in the tank and mixed dry. Water will then be added and the mixed again until it is homogeneous and of uniform colour. Required quantity of cement shall be mixed at one time and shall not be such to exceed mortar amount that can be consumed within half an hour of its mixing.

19. Coarse Aggregate

Coarse aggregate shall conform to IS 383-1970. Aggregate shall be crushed gravel or crushed rock and shall be free from vegetable matter, loam, clay & soil. If required, aggregates shall be thoroughly washed in clean water of concreting quality (potable water) to achieve the specified freedom from contamination and to keep dust free before being used in concrete.

20. Bricks

All bricks shall be of good quality, approved by the site incharge. The bricks shall be free from grit and other impurities such as lime, iron, and other deleterious salts, well burnt, copper coloured, sound, hard, square with sharp edges and shall give ringing sound when struck with a mallet. They shall be of uniform size. No brick after 24 hours immersion in water shall absorb water more than 15% of its weight. Machine made bricks shall be of best quality and approved by the site incharge before use. Chimney made local bricks shall be of best quality available, satisfying above mentioned properties. Bricks shall have a minimum crushing strength of 105 kg/cm2.

21. Lime

Lime shall be white fat-lime and shall be freshly burnt and free from ashes and other foreign matters. Lime shall be slaked at site of work and screened through a sieve of 3 meshes to a cm(8 meshes to an inch) Unslaked white lime shall weigh 214 kg/m3.

22. Telia bricks

Telia bricks or tiles manufactured from brick and tile factory, shall be of first class quality, having smooth, hard surface, regular in shape, sizes and uniform thickness and good quality. The tiles should be thoroughly burnt having sharp and square edges. They should be free from cracks, flaws and chips. They shall show a fine grained, dense texture and be free from lumps of lime, lamination, cracks, air holes, soluble salts, causing efflorescence or other defects which may in any way impair their strength, durability, appearance and usefulness for the purpose intended. They shall not have any part under burnt. They shall give a clear, metallic ringing sound when struck. All tiles shall have to be approved by the site incharge. Any tile not found up to the specification shall be removed from the immediately at contractor's own cost. Representative sample of tiles to be used shall be submitted to the site incharge and his approval should be taken before bulk purchase. All tiles supplied shall confirm to the approved samples in all respect.

23. Mild Steel/Deformed Bar

The reinforcement shall be plain round bars of mild steel, deformed steel or ribbed steel as specified. Mild steel and medium tensile steel bars shall conform to IS 432-1966 (part 1), cold twisted bars shall conform to IS 1786-1979 & Hot rolled deformed bars shall conform to IS 1139-1966. The reinforcement shall be free from fillings, loose rust, mill scale, paint, oil, grease, adhering earth, or any other material that, in the opinion of the site incharge may impair the bond between the concrete and the reinforcement or that causes corrosion of the reinforcement or disintegration of the concrete. The certificates shall be required from the suppliers, for each lot of reinforcement produced, and in addition, the contractor must undertake tensile and bending tests on random samples of the reinforcement delivered to the site. All steel, which is represented by a sample, which fails to reach the minimum requirements as per schedule is to be removed from the site immediately.

24. Terrazzo Tile, Porcelain glazed tile and Granite:

Terrazzo Tiles, Porcelain glazed tiles and Granite (10mm. thick) shall be of smooth surface, shining, durable and of sizes and colours as per schedule. The sample should be approved by the site incharge before commencement of the work.

25. Marble chips:

Marble chips for terrazzo flooring shall be dry, sharp and hard. The chips shall be 6mm down to 3mm, shall be free from foreign matters.

26. Scaffolding:

Scaffolding shall consist of wood ballies and necessary battens and planks. All the scaffolding members shall be checked before installation for their strength and stiffness and tied up properly. Steel scaffolding if available, may also be used and where necessary it shall be erected on double supports. Planks shall be fixed and tied together. In case of finished work such as plastering, painting and distempering, no part of the scaffolding should touch the structure. Where ladders are used, gunny bags shall be tied up at the ends to prevent any damage to work by sliding or tipping.

27. Timber:

Timber shall be of the type as stated in schedule and of the best kind available, perfectly dry, well seasoned, free from knots, cracks, shakes and other defects and any appearance of rot.

28. Glass

Sheet or plate glass shall be of approved make of thickness as stated in the schedule of quantities and visually clear when viewed from any direction. It shall be free from bubbles, waves and all other defects.

29. Oil paints and primer:

These shall be only of ready mixed type in sealed tins of approved makes as specified/ instructed by site incharge.

30. Distempers and primers: These shall be only of ready mixed type sealed tins of approved makes as specified/

instructed by site incharge .

31. Cement paint:

These shall be of approved brand in sealed tins or packages as specified/ instructed by site incharge.

32. Waste water pipes and fitting:

All waste water pipes and fitting shall be of standard makes according to I.S.I, subject to the approval of the site incharge. These must be free from flaws and the interior cleaned smooth.

33. Special Material

If materials of a particular brand are specified in the bill of quantities, these shall be produced accordingly from the particular manufacture. These shall include materials such as bricks, tiles, bitumen and bituminous compounds, waterproofing and hardening compounds, special paints, acoustic and insulation boards and other finishing materials of approved makes. The responsibility for the use of these materials lies with the contractor and he should avail himself of necessary guarantees from the manufacturers. Such guarantees as may be required by the owner shall be obtained by the contractor and given to the site incharge. Special brand names have been avoided, wherever possible. Where brand names have been used merely to describe the nature of the described materials and not used to endorse or indicate preference for a particular product or manufacturer. Goods which have similar characteristics and provide performance and quality at least equal to those specified and conforming to IS standards are acceptable.

34. Test of Materials

The contractor shall at his own cost arrange and carry out the tests of materials to be used in the works or any other tests as deemed necessary by the site incharge.

SPECIFICATION

(ITEMS)

1. EARTHWORK EXCAVATION

Earthwork in excavation in trenches, foundation etc. in all kinds of soil including timbering and shoring, pumping out water from the trenches (if necessary), dressing of sides, ramming of bottom, lift upto 2.5 m stacking of excavated materials at least 1.0 m from the edge of foundation trench and then returning the stacked soil in 15cm layers when required in plinth, under floors, sides of foundation trench, consolidating and depositing the layer by ramming and watering and then disposing of all surplus excavated soil as directed within a lead of 5 km.

(a) EXCAVATION

The foundation trenches shall be dug to the dimensions shown on the drawings and to depth at which in the opinion of the site incharge a stratum of good hard soil is met with. The excavation shall be carefully dug out to the levels, shapes and dimensions as shown or figured on the drawings or as directed by the site incharge to receive the concrete work. Should any of the excavation be taken down below the proper levels, the contractor shall fill in such excavation at his own expense with concrete well rammed in position until it is brought upto the proper levels; filling in which excavated materials will not be allowed for this purpose. No extra charge will be given for the lift of the excavated materials upto 2.5 m. The excavated earth shall be stacked at least 1.0m from the edge of foundation trench. If the trenches are made broader or longer than directed, the extra length and breadth shall be filled in, after the foundation is built, with earth rammed hard, by the contractor at his own cost. The contractor shall at his own expense make provision for all or extra excavation in slope, working spaces, including spaces for pumping, dredging or bailing out water and these trenches shall be kept free from water while the foundation work is in progress. The contractor shall also at his own cost remove such portions of boulders or rocks, as are required to make the bottom of the trench horizontal and level. Nothing extra shall be admissible for pumping and/or bailing out water unless otherwise taken separately in the schedule. The trenches or pits shall be inspected by the site incharge before the concrete is laid there in, when the trench level shall be recorded. The filling in of side of trenches or pits shall be done in not more than 15 cm layers. Each layer shall be flooded with water and rammed hard before adding the next layer. Such fillings shall be brought upto the ground level without extra charge and shall form part of the item of excavation.

(b) Timbering of Trenches

When the trenches are to be taken deep, the sides of the trenches shall be protected by erecting timber shoring and strutting as directed by site incharge. Nothing extra on this account shall be admissible unless otherwise taken separately in the schedule.

(c) Trimming and Levelling

The bottom of all excavation should be trimmed and levelled in accordance with the drawing. bottom of the trenches shall be rammed and watered before concrete is deposited.

(d) Classification of soil

All soils shall be taken as ordinary soil unless hard work or old masonry or concrete or block kankar or running sand which requires special treatment for the purpose of excavation are met with when an additional item shall be formed. Ordinary pebbles or kankar shall be taken under ordinary soil for which nothing extra will be paid.

(e) Disposal

Disposal of the surplus earth will be done within the area as directed by the owner.

Measurement

Measurement shall be the product of the exact length and width of the lowest step of the footings according to the drawing or the site incharge's instructions and the depth measured vertically. Where the ground is not level, average depth shall be taken.

2. EARTHWORK IN FILLING

Earthwork in filling in floor with proper ramming in 20 cm layers, after sprinkling with water and consolidating to 15 cm layers, in m3. This shall be done with good excavated earth, as per article 14. The excavated earth shall be filled in 20 cm layers and each layer shall be well watered and thoroughly rammed with iron rammers till the layer is consolidated to 15 cm layer.

Measurement Measurement shall be in cubic metre of actual work done. For earth brought from outside,

measurements shall be taken of the consolidated earth. 3. SAND FILLING

Sand filling in floor in 15 cm layers after sprinkling with water and ramming to full consolidation, in m3. This shall be done with river or pit sand in layers not exceeding 15 cm. Each layer shall be well watered and rammed to full consolidation with iron rammers. Other procedures shall be as for earth filling described in clause 2.

Measurement As per clause 2.

4. BRICK SOLING

Dry brick soling in foundation and floor with local chimney made bricks as specified under specification (civil) article 20, and laid flat or on edge with close fine points & with frog upwards on a cushion of 12mm to 25mm of sand. All bricks shall be laid closely with brake joints and the small gaps between them shall be filling up with local fine sand.

5. PLAIN CEMENT CONCRETE WORK IN FOUNDATION AND FLOOR

Plain cement concrete in foundation of walls and floors with cement, and stone ballast including mixing, laying, finishing to approved level, lines and dimensions, curing, including centring, shuttering all complete.

(a) Materials (i) Aggregate Broken hard stone as specified under the schedule of maximum size of 38 mm (1 1/2")

in specification (civil) article 19.

(ii) Cement Portland cement as per specification (civil) article 16.

(iii) Sand Sand as per specification (civil) article 15.

(b) Proportion 1 parts cement, 3 parts sand, 6 parts aggregates.

(c) Mixing

All proportions shall be by volume except cement which shall be proportioned by weight and as specified. Mixing shall be in a mechanical mixer as per specifications of reinforced concrete work. However, in special cases, hand mixing may be allowed by site incharge when the following procedure shall be adopted. The several materials shall be accurately gauged in boxes and thoroughly mixed on a water tight platform of adequate size, being turned over at least thrice till the colour is uniform and then twice wet. Water shall be added gradually and no more than necessary to sufficiently wet the materials. Only that much concrete shall be mixed which can be used within half an hour. Each stack shall however be not larger than consuming one bag of cement. All such stacks shall be placed distinct from each other. In case hand mixing is allowed, the contractor shall put in 10% more cement than specified without extra charge.

(d) Strength of Concrete The compressive strength of the concrete at 28 days shall not be less than 100 kg/cm2 for

(1:3:6) mix or such other strength as described on the drawings. The compressive strength shall be ascertained by standard tests, if descried by the site incharge.

(e) Laying

Concrete shall be laid in horizontal layers of not more than 15 cm (6") thick and gently rammed.

(f) Curing

After laying, the concrete shall be kept wet for fifteen days. If cast in hot weather, it shall be covered with gunny bags which shall be kept constantly wet. Other work on concrete shall not start until after three days of laying the concrete.

Measurement Measurement shall be in cubic metre of exact length, breadth and depth as ordered by the

owner. This shall be inclusive of any centring or shuttering required to complete the items. Rate shall include all materials and labour.

6. BRICKWORK IN FOUNDATION AND SUPERSTRUCTURE

Brickwork in foundation and superstructure with approved machine made/Chimney bricks in perfect line and level, finishes including wetting the bricks, packing the joints and curing the work complete in all types of walls, columns etc in m3

(i) In cement sand mortar (1:3) (ii) In cement sand mortar (1:4) (iii) In cement sand mortar (1:6) (iv) In cement sand mortar (1:8) (a) Materials (i) Machine made bricks/ Chimney bricks

Machine made bricks, of approved quality as per specification (civil), article 20, from brick & tile factory, Harisidhi or Bhaktapur brick & tile factory. Bricks to be used shall be immersed in clean water in a tank of sufficient size for at least 12 hours. Chimney bricks as per specification (Civil) article 20.

(ii) Cement Mortar

as per specification (civil) article 18 and in the specified proportions.

(b) Laying

Beds of courses should be as nearly perpendicular as possible to the line of pressure. A systematic bond must be maintained throughout the whole work and perpend must be

continuous in alternate courses. All bricks must be well bedded and all joints should be of uniform thickness of 10cm. The owner reserves the right to reject any brick which may have an injurious effect. All courses shall be in true level and in perfect bond and filled with mortar to provide a thoroughly water resistant structure. All brickwork should be vertical and true to line and dimension level. No chipping or rubbing of the face shall be allowed. Partitions wall of half brick shall be reinforced with 6mm m.s bars laid vertical at every three bricks and horizontally at every six layers. Brickwork, carried out shall be to true to level and in plumb. Steps left temporarily during construction, should not exceed 8 courses in depth. When brickwork of any portion is to be delayed, it must be raked back in regular steps of one course each at an angle not exceeding 45. When work has been left off at night, fillets of mortar about 38mm high should be made round the edges and water filled in. A brickwork must be kept wetted for at least 7 to 10 days. In honeycomb brickwork all bricks should have a bearing of not less than 25mm. All brickwork must be stopped during frosty weather. Newly built work should be kept well covered during frost time.

(c) Fair faced brickwork

Where wall is to be finished with a fair face, the exposed surface of brick should be free from defects and the joints should be finished flush as the works proceed. The fair faced brickwork shall be kept perfectly clean and no rubbing down of brickwork shall be allowed. Where brickwork is to be plastered, the joints shall be raked out as the work proceeds.

(d) Putlog Holes

All putlog holes (if inevitable for scaffolding) shall be not less than one course deep. After removal of scaffolding, the holes should be filled with bricks filled with mortar to fit the size of opening with proper beds and joints.

Measurement

The measurement of work shall be the product of length, height & thickness. All thickness of brickwork shall be measured as per drawings. Deductions for doors, windows and other openings including lintels shall be made to arrive at the net quantity of work. Nothing shall be paid extra for forming such openings. However, no deduction shall be made for areas less than 1 sq. ft. over all bearing of lintels, beams, girders and hold fasts blocks, but extra shall be paid for embedding these. Similarly, no deductions shall be allowed for rendering the flue opening specified. Brickwork covering R.C.C. structure and in continuation of the main wall, shall be measured in thickness nearest to the figures shown in the drawings. Unless otherwise nothing extra shall be admissible for cutting in brickwork to suit R.C.C. and other structures. Rate shall be inclusive of all necessary scaffolding, material, labour, curing, and keeping fair faced brickwork free from mortar at all times and cleaning the work at completion.

7. BRICKBATS FILLING IN FOUNDATION AND FLOOR Brickbats filling in foundation and superstructure laid in layers of not more than 20cm

moderately sprinkled with water, and rammed with 6kg. round iron rammers, with edges

rammed with square rammers, till full consolidation, all complete, in m3.

(a) Materials

Brickbats should be of well- burnt or slightly overburnt chimney made or machine made brick.

(b) Laying

Bed of foundation trench shall be lightly sprinkled with water before filling with brickbats. Brickbats shall be laid in layers of not more than 20cm and thoroughly consolidated with 6kg. iron rammers. At the ramming shall be done with square iron rammers. Brickbats filling shall be done to the uniform level or as per direction of the owner.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in cubic metre of consolidated material. Rate shall include all materials, labours, consolidation, all complete.

8. STONE BOULDER SOLING IN FOUNDATION AND FLOOR

Stone boulder soling in foundation and floor with stones of approved size and quality to specified level, lines and dimensions, all complete, in m3.

(a) Materials

The stone shall be hard, tough, sound and durable. No stone shall be more than 15cm in size. Size and quality of stone should be as per specification (civil) article 17, and should be approved by the owner.

(b) Laying

Stones should be laid on its natural bed to approved level.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in cubic metre of exact length, breadth and depth. Rate shall include all materials, labour, etc, all complete.

9. STONEWORK IN FOUNDATION AND SUPERSTRUCTURE

Stonework in foundation and superstructure with random rubble stones of approved size and quality, including wetting the stones, packing the joints and curing the work in all types

and thickness of walls, columns, etc, all complete in m3.

(i) In cement sand mortar (1:4)

(a) Materials

(i) Stone The stone shall be hard, tough, sound and durable. No stone shall be less than

15cm and more than 45cm. Stone less than 0.041 m3 in size should not be used. Face stones shall be larger and uniform in size and colour to give a good appearance. Breadth of face stones shall be greater than the height. Face stones should tail into wall to a sufficient depth to bond well. Stones shall be laid with broader face downwards to give a good bedding. Face joints shall be broken and faced of wall shall be truly in plumb. Corner stones or quoins should be of good stones and dressed correct to angle and laid as headers and stretchers.

(ii) Mortar Cement mortar shall be as per specification (civil) article 18, and in the following

proportions: (a) 1:4 (1 cement : 4 sand) (b) 1:6 (1 cement : 6 sand) (c) 1:8 (1 cement : 8 sand)

The ingredients shall be accurately gauged by measure and shall be well and evenly mixed together in a mechanical pan mixer, care being taken not to add more water than is required. No mortar that has been set shall be used. River sand shall be used unless otherwise specified. If hand mixing is allowed then it shall be done in masonry tanks. The gauged materials shall be put in the tank and mixed dry. Water will be then added and the whole mixed again until it is homogeneous and of uniform colour. Mortar shall be prepared in such quantity, at one time, which shall be consumed within half an hour of its mixing. The work shall be well watered for a fortnight.

(b) Joints Joints shall not be thicker than 19mm. Face joints shall be thinner. Interstices, if any

may be filled with pieces of spalls of stones embedded in mortar. Not more than 60cm height of masonry shall be constructed at one time.

(c) Bond stones Through bond stones of one piece shall be provided one every 10.45 m2 (5sq. ft) of

face. for walls thicker than 75cm bond stones may be of two pieces placed side by side overlapping at least 25cm. Breadth of bond stones shall not be less than 1 1/2 times the height.

All stones shall be thoroughly wetted before laying. At the end of a day's work, masonry shall be flooded with 2.5cm water at the upper surface with the help of fillets of mortar about 38mm high, made round in edges. The masonry shall be protected from sun, rain, frost and other weather effect.

Measurement

The measurement of work shall be the product of length and thickness. All thickness of stone shall be measured and will be as per drawings. Deductions for doors, windows, and other openings including lintels shall be made to arrive at the net quantity of work. Nothing shall be paid extra for forming such openings. However, no deductions shall be made for areas less than 0.1 m2 over all bearings of lintels, beams, girders, and hold fasts blocks but nothing extra shall be paid for embedding these. Similarly, no deductions shall be allowed for rendering the flue opening specified. Stone work covering to R.C.C. structure and in continuation of the main wall shall be measured in thickness nearest to the figures shown in the drawing. Unless otherwise specified nothing extra shall be admissible for cutting in stone works to suit R.C.C. structure, walls in any shape other than straight, any cutting necessary for shaping the walls to structural design. Rate shall be inclusive of all necessary scaffolding, material, labour.

10 DAMP- PROOF COURSE

Plain cement concrete damp- proof course (D.P.C) (1:2:4) with cement, sand and ballast and 2% imperio or waterseal or equivalent waterproofing compound (by weight of cement), including mixing, laying, and curing to approved level, and dimensions, all complete, nett in m2.

(a) Materials

(i) Cement

as per specification (civil) article 16.

(ii) Sand

as per specification (civil) article 15.

(iii) Stone ballast

as per specification (civil) article 19. The maximum size of stone ballast should not exceed 19mm as given under schedule.

(b) Proportion 1 part cement; 2 parts sand; 4 parts stone ballast. (c) The cement is first mixed thoroughly with the water proofing compound to the required

quantity, then mixed dry with the sand in 1:2 proportion. The mix of cement and sand shall then be mixed dry with stone aggregate to have the proportion 1:2:4. Clean water

shall then be added slowly and gradually while being mixed, to the required quantity to give a plastic mix of the required workable consistency. The mixing shall be done by turning at least 3 times to give a uniform and homogeneous concrete.

(d) Laying

Damp proof course shall be laid to the full width of the plinth or of the superstructure as specified in the drawing or as specially mentioned. It shall be laid to the specified thickness (38mm or 50mm or 75mm) over the plinth wall flushing with the floor surface and shall not be carried across the door ways. D.P.C. shall then be consolidated by tamping and levelled both longitudinally and transversally. Laying shall be completed in same day, the joints or breaks shall given at door openings. The surface of the concrete shall be roughened and chequered when air- dry, so as to form a key for the joint with the brick wall above.

(e) Curing

The D.P.C. shall be cured by watering and kept wet for seven days, and then the construction of wall above may be started. The surface shall be cleaned and wetted before masonry is started.

Measurement Measurement shall be in squire metre of exact length and breadth, keeping the

thickness constant as specified. Rate shall include all materials, mixing, laying, shuttering, curing, etc. complete.

11 PLAIN CEMENT CONCRETE IN FLOORING

Plain cement concrete (1:2:4) flooring with cement, sand and stone ballast, including laying in panels (the side of the panels shall be bounded with teak wood batten or flat iron bars of same size and fixed with weak mortar or with nails or hooks), providing proper slope for draining wash water, all complete, in m2.

(i) 25 mm thick P.C.C. (1:2:4:) flooring. (ii) 38 mm thick P.C.C. (1:2:4) flooring. (iii) 50 mm thick P.C.C. (1:2:4) flooring. (iv) 75 mm thick P.C.C. (1:2:4) flooring. (v) 100mm thick P.C.C. (1:2:4) flooring.

(a) Materials

(i) Cement Portland cement as per specification (civil) article 16.

(ii) Sand as per specification (civil) article 15.

(iii) Aggregate

Broken stones 19mm maximum size graded down, or as specified in the schedule of specification (civil) article 19.

(b) Preparation of sub-grade

The sub- grade shall be cleared of all loose earth, rubbing, and other foreign matter. If necessary the sub- grade shall then be wetted with water thoroughly, but no water pool shall be allowed. Necessary slope shall be given in the sub- grade itself. If the sub-grade is of lean concrete the flooring shall be commenced within 48 hours.

(c) Proportion

1 part cement; 2 parts sand; and 4 parts of stone aggregate by volume. The stone aggregate shall be 19mm maximum size graded down or as specified in the schedule. Grading of aggregate shall be as per reinforced concrete specification.

(d) Placing

The floors shall be laid to specified thickness in panels of uniform size not exceeding 1m 28 (one side not exceeding 1.2m). They shall be laid in alternate panels on different days. The edges of the panels shall be protected by flat bars of iron or teak wood batten fixed with weak mortar or with nails or hooks, their depth being equal to that of flooring. Proper slope for draining wash water shall be provided as per instruction as specified.

(e) Finishing

Compact first with wood float. The blows shall be fairly heavy but as consolidation takes place, light rapid strokes shall be given. Beating shall continue till all hollows in concrete are filled with mortar cream. Then the surface shall be trowelled till the moisture disappears. Test the surface with straight edge. The surface must be uniform in colour. Immediately after trowelling, well mixed neat cement slurry (cement and water solution) shall be sprinkled in a uniform layer at the rate of 2.2 kg. per sq.m. The cement slurry shall be trowelled smooth with a steel float. The surface shall be rubbed with carborundum stone if required to remove float mark and leave a clean smooth surface.

Measurement

It shall be measured in square metre measured from wall to wall exclusive of any finishing or as per instructions of the owner. Unless otherwise stated in the schedule of quantities, nothing extra shall be admissible for small areas and corners and work in

any shape. No deductions shall however, be made for protruding or independent columns occurring in the floors, door frames embedded in floor or any other part out when the area does not exceed 0.1 m2 for each. However, nothing extra shall be allowed for the cutting involved at such places.

12. CAST IN SITU MOSAIC/ TERRAZZO FLOORING

68 mm thick mosaic/ terrazzo flooring consisting of 28mm thick cement concrete (1:2:4) with cement, sand and stone ballast and 10mm top course (1:1) with white or colour cement with marble chips including mixing, laying, grinding and polishing to smooth finished glazed floor, all complete in m2.

(a) Materials (i) Cement:- Portland cement as per specification (civil) article 16.

(ii) Sand :- as per specification (civil) article 15.

(iii) Aggregate:- Hard and tough (granite stone) of 12mm gauge, well graded, clean and free from dust and dirt.

(iv) Marble chips:- 2B (approx. 6mm) gauge graded chips for floor and 3mm graded chips for skirting/dado. marble chips shall be dry sharp and hard & shall be free from foreign matters.

(b) Proportion

Base course:- Plain cement concrete (1:2:4) 1 part cement; 2 parts sand; 4 parts aggregate of 12mm gauge.

Upper course:- Marble chips and cement of specified (approved) colour(1:1) 1 part marble chips; 1 part cement.

(c) Mixing

Cement concrete shall be prepared by mixing the ingredients dry by measuring with boxes to have the required proportion. First cement and sand shall be mixed dry and this dry mix shall be mixed with stone chips dry and then mixed by adding water slowly and gradually and mixed thoroughly to have a uniform mix. The marble chips and cement shall be mixed by measuring with boxes to have the required proportion, first dry mixed, and then thoroughly mixed by adding water gradually to have a uniform plastic mix.

(d) Laying

The base shall be made rough and watered and given a cement wash and then the concrete shall be laid in 28mm thick layers in panels of 90 cm x90cm or as per instruction of the owner. Panels shall be bounded by glass dividing strips 4mm thick and 38mm deep. After laying, the concrete shall be compacted by beating and tamping and levelled with wooden floats. Proper slope for draining wash water shall be provided as per instruction of the owner. Within 2 hours of laying of the bottom layer of cement concrete, the upper layer of marble chips and cement shall be laid, and the surface tamped lightly and finished perfectly level with straight edge float and trowel. Additional aggregates may be spread on the finished surface while compacting or rolling so that the final surface is covered with chips to extent of about 70-80% of the exposed area.

(e) Curing

After about 24 hours of laying, the surface shall be covered with wet bags and kept wet and left undisturbed for 2 days.

(f) Finish

The surface shall be ground by rubbing with sand stone blocks and all cement in the surface removed. A neat cement wash shall then be given in the surface and left undisturbed for 6 days and the surface shall be ground with carborundum stones of different grades starting with coarse one and successively with finer ones, and rubbing shall be continued until the entire surface shows a uniform granular appearance. The surface should be kept wet during all these days. After final rubbing, the surface shall be thoroughly cleaned by washing with soft soap water and then with clean water. Finally, when the surface is absolutely dry, oxalic acid powder shall be rubbed well on the surface with pieces of felt with a few drops of water, and this operation shall be repeated until the surface becomes perfectly smooth and glossy. The surface shall be rubbed with wax to give a glazing surface. White cement or coloured cement shall be used to have the required colour as per specified or as per instruction of the owner.

If required by the owner, the grinding and polishing shall be done by grinding machine in 3 operations, first grinding with machine fitted with coarse carborundum stone, second grinding with medium grade carborundum stone, and final grinding with fine grade carborundum stone.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of exact length and breadth of floor. Rate shall include all materials, mixing, laying, curing, finishing and labour etc all complete.

13. TERRAZZO TILES AND PORCELAIN GLAZED TILES PAVING

Terrazzo tile, granite and porcelain glazed tiles laid in proper slope for draining wash water for flooring and in proper line and level for wall and column paving works, finished with white cement slurry including grinding and polishing all complete, in m2.

(i) In cement, sand mortar (1:2)

(a) Materials

Terrazzo/Porcelain Glazed tile - precast manufactured terrazzo tiles as per specification (civil) article 26.

Granite - precast manufactured Granite as per specification (civil) article 26. Cement, Sand - As per specifications (civil) article nos. 16,17 respectively.

(b) Proportion

(i) Cement, sand mortar (1:2) :- 1 part cement; 2 parts sand. (c) Mixing

Firstly the ingredients, cement and sand shall be measured in specified proportions with measuring box and first mixed dry to have a uniform colour in a clean masonry platform and then mixed by adding clear water slowly and gradually to have workable consistency and mixed thoroughly by turning at least three times. Fresh mixed mortar shall be used. Old and stale mortar shall not be used. Mortar should be mixed in such quantity, which can be consumed within half an hour.

(d) Laying

The finishing base shall be made rough and shall be well watered. The tiles of approved size, thickness, colour and appearance shall be laid in 12mm thick mortar of specified proportion. During the process of laying, a proper slope for draining wash water shall be provided as per drawing or instructions of the owner. The tiles shall be laid with break jointed by half the size of tile or as per instructions. The surface shall be checked frequently with spirit level and wooden straight edge to have a true surface. No damaged or broken tiles should be used. The tiles are laid with close fine joints, which shall be filled with white or coloured cement slurry as specified.

(e) Finish

The finish shall be similar to cash in situ terrazzo flooring as per clause 13.

Measurement

Measurement shall be same as for clause 12.

14 MARBLE STONE PAVING

25mm thick marble stone paving in floor laid with cement sand mortar (1:4) in proper slope for draining wash water, including grinding and polishing to smooth surface all complete, in m2.

(a) Materials

Marble stone - It shall be of good quality having smooth, hard surface, regular in shape, sizes and uniform thickness, of good appearance, and of sharp and square edges. It shall be free from cracks and other defects. Marble stones may be from Godavari Marble factory or equivalent the colour and size shall be as per instructions. Sample of marble stone to be used shall be submitted to the owner and his approval should be taken before bulk purchase. All the marble stones supplied shall conform to the approved sample in all respect.

(b) Proportion

Cement sand mortar (1:4)- 1 part cement; 4 parts sand -as per specification (civil) article 18.

(c) Laying and finish

The marble slab shall be bedded in cement mortar (1:4) which shall be at least 19mm in thickness. Joints shall be kept as small as possible. When properly set, the paved marble slabs shall be rubbed with coarse carborundum stone and water, and successively with medium and finally with fine carborundum stone. The surface shall then be finally smoothened down with pumice stone. When the smoothing process has been completed, the surface shall be polished with putty powder rubbed with felt pads with plenty of water being used. The flooring must have set fully before any walking over it is allowed, and no load shall be allowed on it for at least seven days. Joints and fillets shall be laid similar to as per clause 16.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of exact length and breadth of floor. Rate shall include all materials, grinding, polishing, labour etc all complete.

15. STONE SLAB FLOORING

Stone slab flooring with approved stone flags with upper surface fine dressed, laid in proper slope for draining wash water, all complete,

(a) Materials

Stone slab - It shall be of good quality having uniform thickness, finely chisel dressed on surfaces and should have their edges true and parallel from side to side. It shall be free from cracks and other defects. Sample of stone slabs to be used shall be submitted to the owner and his approval should be taken before bulk purchase. All the stone slabs supplied shall conform to the approved samples in all respect.

Cement sand mortar(1:4) 1 part cement; 4 parts sand- as per specification (civil) article 18.

Cement sand mortar (1:6) -

1 part cement; 6 parts sand- as per specification (civil) article 18.

(b) Laying and Finish

The stone slab shall be bedded in cement mortar (1:4) or in (1:6), and it shall be at least 12mm in thickness. Joints shall be kept as small as possible and should not exceed 6mm. In laying the slabs, work is started from diagonally opposite corners and brought up from both sides. At the corners, two slabs are laid on mortar and securely pushed so as to confirm to the level needed for the floor. A string is stretched from the top of the one slab to the top of the other and all intermediate slabs are laid so that their tops touch the string. Each slab is firmly bedded on stiff mortar and tapped with a wooden mallet. However, when a slab gets lowered slightly more than the general floor level, it is not raised by inserting small stone chips from below but is relaid on fresh layer of stiff mortar. After the slabs of stone are laid, the mortar in the joints is raked out to a depth of about 1cm to 2cm and the joints are flush pointed with cement mortar (1:1). The flooring must have set fully before any walking over is allowed and no load shall be allowed over it for at least seven days.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of exact length and breadth of floor. Rate shall include all materials labour etc all complete.

16. TELIA BRICK PAVING IN ROOF

Telia brick paving in roof terracing in proper slope for draining water, all complete, in m2.

(i) In cement, sand mortar (1:4) (a) Materials

Telia brick- As per specification (civil) article 24, of approved sample and size.

approved size and thickness shall be laid in specified mortar. During the laying process, a proper slope of not less than 1:6 or as per drawing or instruction, shall be provided for draining water. The joint should not exceed 6mm and it should be pointed with cement, sand (1:1) or as per instruction of the owner. No mortar shall be allowed to spread out. The telia brick may be laid in parallel rows, breaking joint exactly half of their length. the work shall be kept wet for 10 days and shall be protected from sum and rain.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of exact length and breadth of work done. Rate shall include all materials, laying, pointing, curing, labour, etc all complete.

17. BRICK WORK IN PAVING

Brick work in paving in (1:6) cement, sand mortar with machine made bricks in proper slope for draining water and pointed with cement sand pointing (1:2), all complete, in m2.

(i) Brick flat paving. (ii) Brick on edge paving.

(a) Materials

Brick- as per specification (civil) article 20.

Mortar- cement, sand mortar in proportion (1:6) as per specification (civil) article 18.

(b) Laying

All bricks shall be soaked in water in a tank for at least 12 hours before use. The surface of base shall be roughed and watered. The bricks shall be laid with mortar as specified with break joints at half the length of brick, with the required bond. A proper slope for draining wash water shall be maintained. The surface should be checked frequently with spirit level and wooden straight edge to have a true surface. No damage or broken bricks shall be used anywhere except the edges, where properly straight cut bricks shall be used. Mortar joints shall not exceed 12mm and all joints should be fully of mortar. The brick work shall

not be disturbed but shall be kept wet for at least 10 days. The surface should be finished with pointing with cement mortar (1:2) or as per instruction.

Measurement

18 WOOD WORK IN OPENING FRAMES Wood work in frames for doors, windows, ventilators etc. with good finish of approved

seasoned salwood or Shisum wood including fixing with necessary M.S. hold fasts, all complete, in m3.

(a) Materials Timbers: (i) Quality: - Timber to be used for the work shall be from the heart of a sound tree of

mature growth, the salwood being entirely removed. It shall be uniform in substance, straight in fibre, free from large, loose, dead or cluster knots, flaws, shakes, wasp, cup spring, twist, bends and defects of any kind. It should be free from spongy, brittle, flaky or brushy condition, salwood borer holes. All timber shall be seasoned and be free from decay, free from any harmful fungi and insect attacks and from any other damage of harmful nature which will affect the strength, durability, appearance or its usefulness for the purpose for which it is required.

(ii) Kind :- The timber shall be of best quality timber as specified in the item. The

samples of the approved timber to be used shall be deposited in the office of the owner for the purpose of comparison.

(iii) Colour :- The colour shall be uniform as far as possible the darkness of colour

amongst colour species of timber being generally a sign of strength and durability.

(iv) Moisture Content :- The moisture content for timber shall not exceed 12 percent of dry weight of timber.

(v) Stacking :- As soon as the foundation of buildings are laid, all necessary timber scantlings shall

be brought to site and stacked as laid down as per I.S. code and kept under cover and allowed to remain till required.

(vi) Timber for the work shall not be brought until seen and approved by the owner who may reject the defective timber. Any effort like plugging, painting using any adhesive or resinous material to hide defects shall render the pieces rejectable

by the owner. Timber presented for inspection shall be clean and free from dust, mud, paint or other material which may conceal the defects. Cut off ends for protection can be done after inspection with raw linseed oil or any other material approved by the owner. No timber shall be painted, tarred or oiled without the previous permission of the owner.

(vii) Sawing :- All scantlings shall be sawn in straight lines and plains and should be of uniform

thickness and full measurement from end to and shall be swan in the direction of the grain. They shall be swan with such sufficient margin as to secure specified dimensions, lines and planes after being wrought.

Maximum slope of grain shall range between 1 in 10 to 1 in 20. any timber rejected shall at once be removed from the site of work.

(viii) Carpentry work :- The timber shall be properly planed and wrought in a workman like manner. Joints

shall be true to fit properly and of the kind directed by the owner. The rate of woodwork shall include the cost of all sawing, planing, jointing, framing, labour and materials for raising and fixing and all workmanship and the fitting, fixing and supplying of all straps, bolts nails, spikes, keys wedges, pins, screws etc. necessary for the framing and fixing. Joints and portions inserted in masonry or floor shall be allowed for in the measurement.

(ix) Fixing of holdfast :- Holdfast shall be 16mm dia M.S holdfast. One end of the holdfast shall be threaded

and the other end shall be splitted into two for anchorage into cement concrete block 1:3:6 to the width of the wall x 30cm long x 15cm thick. Holdfast shall be 23cm outside the frame of doors and 15cm for the windows frames. The holdfast shall be fixed as per standard detailed drawing. The holdfast shall be fixed to the door or window frames with 38mm M.S screws. The M.S. flat of the holdfast shall be fitted to the frame in the recess of required size and thickness. There shall be two such holdfast on each side of the frame for frames upto 2.1m and 4 nos on each side of the frames above 2.1m likewise there shall be 2 nos holdfast on either side of door frames up to the height of 1.2m high. The positions of the holdfast shall be as shown on the drawing with minor adjustments to suit the brick course. All holdfast with concrete blocks shall be laid as the masonry work proceeds and not fixed afterwards. The concrete blocks shall neither be measured separately nor any deduction made in brickwork for these blocks. Door frames when abutting R.C.C. members shall be fixed to R.C.C. members with raw plug 50mm long and wooden screws of required size. Screw heads shall be sunk into frames and plugged properly.

Measurement

The measurement of the door window frame shall be taken in its net length and section and worked out correct upto three places of decimals in cubic metre. Tolerance of 3mm and 1.5mm are admissible in sections of wrought timber and undressed timber respectively.

19. FULLY PANELLED DOOR SHUTTERS

Fully panelled door shutters for Nepali style carved doors, simple doors and windows with approved seasoned salwood or shisum wood with good finishing including fixing with 3 nos, of 10cm hinges per leaf, 2 nos of 30cm and 15cm chromium plates tower bolts, 1 no chromium plated handle, 1 no. mortice tenon lock, 2 nos rubber stopper etc as per specifications and as per drawing all complete in m2.

(a) Materials

(i) Timber as per clause 20 wood work in opening frames.

(ii) Fixtures and fastenings- Providing and fixing in position the following fixtures and fastenings per every leaf of door shutter:-

* Mortice tenon lock(6 levers) approved quality- 1 No

for door shutters opening left or right for offices.

* Mortice latch with one head bolt and a pair of levers handles (Godrej made) for all toilets. --1 No

All fixtures and fastenings to be used shall be approved by the owner. They shall be new, sound and strong. they shall be of the best quality and workmanship. The size, shape, design and finish shall be as directed by the owner and deposited in his office for reference.

All fixtures shall be fixed to the jointing in a secure and efficient manner. Any of the fixture damaged during fixing shall be removed and new ones fixed in their place and the surface of the joinery made good, wherever affected, at the contractor's expense.

When the type is not mentioned in the drawing or item it shall be hung or swing as directed by the owner. In case the ventilator is hung, 2 brass butt hinges shall be fixed with brass screws unless otherwise mentioned in the drawing. A pair of 23cm iron hooks and eyes shall be fixed to the ventilator frames and the shutter as directed. If the detailed drawing specify different types of fixtures the work shall be carried out according to the drawing. Screws shall be of suitable length and correct diameter and fixed with screw driver and not by hammering.

(iii) Shutters or leaves (joinery)- The shutters shall be panelled as specified. Thethickness of shutters shall be 3cm to 5cm or as specified or as per drawing. The stiles, rails, and panels shall be planed, neatly and truly finished to the exact dimension as per drawing. The stiles and rails shall be framed properly and accurately with mortice and tenon joint and fixed with wooden or bamboo pins or as directed by the site incharge. Panels shall be of one piece without any joint and fixed with 12mm insertion into the rails and stiles or as per drawing, rails shall be provided with moulding as per design or as directed by the site incharge.

The thickness of panels shall be 12mm to 25mm as specified or as directed by the site incharge. All rails over 15cm in width shall have double tenon, or as per drawing. NO tenon shall exceed one- fourth of the thickness of the plank or the detail shall be as per drawing.

Measurement The measurement of shutter shall be taken in square metre for the finished work in

closed position. Overlaps of two shutters shall not be measured. The rate shall be for complete work including hanging and fixing in position. The rate shall include all the materials and labour all complete.

20. FULLY GLAZED SHUTTERS

Fully glazed shutters for doors and windows with approved salwood or shisum wood using wooden bead or putty with good finishing, including fixing with 3 nos. of 10cm hinges per leaf, 2 Nos chromium plated tower bolts of 30cm and 15cm length, 2 Nos. chromium plated handles, one number hook or wooden cleat per leaf, required number of screws etc as per drawings, all complete, in m2.

(a) Materials (i) Timber - as per clause 20, wood work in opening frames".

(ii) Fixtures and Fastenings -Providing and fixing in position the following fixtures and fastenings per every leaf of glazed shutter :-

(iii) Glass - The glass shall be sheet glass and free from bubbles, scratches and other imperfections. The thickness of glass shall be 4mm or as specified. The glass panes shall be fixed in 12mm to 15mm rebate of the wooden frame leaving 1.5mm clear gap around for allowing for expansion. The rebate shall be painted as specified, before glasses are fixed. These glass should be fixed with nickel screws in the rebate by moulded wooden fillets running all around, inserting a strip of felt or rubber in the rebate under the glass to act as a cushion. In case putty is provided, it should be of the best quality made of finely powdered whiting and linseed oil, kneaded into a stiff paste. First, a thin layer of putty( back putty) shall be applied on the rebate, then glass shall be fixed in position by a few small nails, and then putty(front putty) shall be applied and pressed in position and finished neatly in such a manner that no putty projects beyond the rebate. The putty shall then be painted with a coat of specified paint.

Measurement

The measurement of the shutter shall be taken in square metre for the finished work in closed position, overlaps of two shutters shall not be measured. The shall be for

complete work, including hanging and fixing in position, and including all the materials and labour, all complete.

21. FLUSH DOOR SHUTTERS

[1] Flush door shutters with approved plywood fitted on approved seasoned salwood or shisum wood frames, including fixing with 3 nos. 10cm hinges per leaf, 2 nos. chromium plated tower bolts of 30cm and 15cm length, one number mortice tenon lock, rubber stopper and required number of screws etc. as per drawing, all complete on m2.

* Rubber stopper fixed with shutters --- 2 nos.

All fixtures and fastenings to be used shall be approved by the site incharge and fixed as specified. They shall be new, sound and strong. They shall be of the best quality and workmanship. The size, shape, design and finish shall be as directed by the site incharge and deposited in his office for reference.

All fixtures shall be fixed to the jointing in a secure and efficient manner. Any if the fixtures damaged during fixing shall be removed and new ones fixed in their place, and the surface of the joinery made good where affected, at the contractor's expense. When the type is not mentioned in the drawing, or item, it shall be hung or swing as directed by the site incharge.

(iii) Plywood - Plywood shall be approved Indian manufacture of standard quality. It shall be bonded with synthetic resin of interior type unless otherwise stated. Where stated to be of exterior type, it shall be weatherproof. Samples of materials and their source of manufacture must be approved by the site incharge, before being used in the work.

(b) CONSTRUCTION The hollow core flush door shall be of single leaf or of double leaves. The thickness of

hollow core flush door including the thickness if plywood shall be of 38mm, the face panels to be of commercial plywood glued on both sides. The seasoned salwood framing shall comprise of horizontal rails 5 nos. 100mm x 30mm and vertical 2 nos.

100mm x 30mm and middle vertical member 50mm x 30mm. In each segment, battens not less than 25mm wide shall be fixed, in such a way that the voids are equally distributed and the voids area in any segment is less than 300cm2 or as per drawing and as directed by the site incharge. The thickness referred to is for finished thickness and no tolerance is allowed. All doors are to be provided with India rubber door stops. Levelling of the surface shall be carried out during each stage of construction, i.e. fabrication of core and bonding of the plywood. Thickness of the core shall be checked for uniformity before bonding the plywood. The thickness of plywood on both sides shall be of 4mm. The plywood shall be glued under pressure on both faces of the core. In the case of double leafed shutters, the meeting of the stiles shall be either splayed or square type or as per detail drawing. All four edges of the door shutters shall be square. The shutter shall be free from twist or warp in its plane. Both faces of door shutter shall be smooth and of even texture.

Measurement The measurement of hollow core flush door shutter shall be taken in square metre for

finished work in closed position. Overlaps of two shutters shall not be measured. The rate shall be for complete work, including all fixtures, hanging and fixing in position and inclusive of all materials and labour complete.

[2] Flush door shutters with 4mm commercial plywood on side and 2mm thick teak plywood on other side fitted on approved seasoned salwood or shisum wood frames, including fixing with 3 nos. 10cm hinges per leaf, 2 nos. heavy duty aluminium tower bolts of 30cm and 15cm length, one number mortice tenon lock, rubber stopper required number of screws etc. as per drawing, all complete, in m2

The laminae shall be joined together by gluing all components, and these laminae shall be as per drawing. The plywood are fixed to the laminae on the external faces. The thickness of plywood should be 3mm or as specified in the drawing. Edging strips of hardwood(salwood or shisum) are fitted on the edges as shown in the drawing. The laminae are fitted into lipping of the stiles, top and bottom rails as per drawing and as per instructions of the site incharge.

Thickness of the laminae shall be checked for uniformity before bonding the plywood. The plywood forming the face panels shall not be less than 3mm in thickness. The plywood shall be glued under pressure on both faces on the laminae. In the case double leafed shutters, the meeting of the stiles shall be rebated not less than 20mm, or as per drawing. The rebating shall be either splayed or square type or as per drawing. All the four edges of the door shutters shall be square. The shutter shall be free from twist, and warp in its plane. Both faces of door shutters shall be smooth and of even texture.

All wood work shall be accurately set out in strict accordance with the detailed drawings, and shall be framed together and securely fixed in the best possible manner with properly made joints. All necessary nails, screws, iron straps, nuts and bolts etc. shall be provided as directed and approved by the site incharge.

Actual dimensions of all wood works shall not vary from specified dimensions by more than 3mm in deficiency or excess, and must be uniform throughout. All wood work shall be as long as possible and practicable, in order to eliminate joints.

Measurement The measurement of beams, rafters, purlins, battens, wall plates, etc. shall be taken in

cubic metre for the finished work fixed in position including, sawing, planing, jointing, nailing, and inclusive of screws, straps, etc.

24. EAVES BOARD 37mm thick eaves board with approved seasoned salwood or shisum wood of first class

finish including fixing with necessary nails, iron chips, etc. as per drawings, all complete, in m2.

(b) Construction The hand rail shall be fixed parallel to the slope of the stair. Special moulding giving a

good appearance shall be used to the hand rail as per drawings and instructions of the site incharge. The hand rail is house tennoned & dowelled to the newels.

Measurement The measurement shall be taken in running metre of finished work. The rate includes

all the materials and labour, all complete.

26. MILD STEEL GRILL

Mild steel grill of approved pattern and manufacture, finished with one coat of red lead primer followed by one coat of enamel paint, all complete, as per drawing, in Square metre.

Materials

Metal:- As per specifications and instruction of site incharge.

Construction

The mild steel grill shall be made according to pattern given as per drawing. Welded joints shall be neatly made, filled smooth and left clean. The site incharge is to be informed when the welded work is ready for inspection and any such work must be left unprimed until the site incharge gives his approval. The contractor shall furnish at his own expense all necessary tools and all materials which he may require for the safe erection of the work, and remove the same when the work is completed. The contractor shall be solely responsible for any damage done to the structure during erection and any member which

The joints of the pipe shall be jointed with rubber gasket where necessary, as per instructions of the site incharge. The pipes shall be painted with one coat of red lead followed by one coat of aluminium paint before fixing in position.

28. C.I. SPECIALS

33. IRON ROLLING SHUTTERS

The Iron Rolling shutters shall be profile type & shall be formed from steel lath sections made from 18 S.W.G. tested Bright cold rolled close annealed M.S. Strips confirming to B.S.S. 1449 E.N. 2B Pinch passed hardness rockwell 'B' 60/65 machine rolled in one piece without any welded joints 3" rolling centre, interlocked with each other, inside walls of guides and internationally approved by the fire services as "FIRE RESISTANT". All exposed parts shall be painted with one coat of anti corrosive hard red oxide protective paint. The springs shall be DIANA OR MARSHALL make coiled type. The spring shall be manufactured from tested high tensile spring steel wire or strip of adequate strength to balance the shutters in position. The spring pipe shaft shall be supported on strong mild steel or malleable cast iron brackets. Both the side guides and bottom rails shall be jointless and of single piece of pressed steel, Side guides shall be of 12 gauge, side locks and pad locks shall be provided. The Fixing Top cover, spring etc. shall be of same material as that of lath, and no extra payment shall be made for this. The rolling shutter shall be finished with one coat of red lead followed by one coat of aluminium paint or red oxide paint.

Measurements The actual area of rolling shutters shall be measured in sq. meters correct to two places of

decimal. The width shall be measured as the width of the shutters including portion hidden in guide channels and height shall be measured as the length of shutters from the bottom of the locking plate to the top of the laths including portions above the opening. Width and height shall be measured correct to cm.

34. PLAIN CEMENT CONCRETE FOR R.C.C. WORKS

Plain cement concrete for R.C.C. columns, beams, slabs, lintels, footings, D.P.C. band, and for all kinds of R.C.C.works with approved quality of cement, sand and stone ballast including mixing, laying, curing, finishing etc. excluding reinforcement, centring and shuttering, all complete, in m3.

(i) Concrete of M 150 grade. (ii) Concrete of M 200 grade. (iii)Concrete of M 250 grade. (a) Materials

(b) Preparation of Concrete The aggregate shall be measured by weight or by equivalent volume in approved

container which shall be filled without compacting the aggregate, and accurate allowance being made for bulking due to moisture in the fine aggregate. The cement shall also be weighed or ascertained by predetermined volume. The proportion shall be as per the approved mix design. Water shall also be added by weight or by equivalent volume(as per the approved mix design) during mixing to produce a concrete having reasonable workability to enable it to be well consolidated to be worked into the corners of the shuttering and around the reinforcement to give the specified surface finish. When suitable amount of water has been determined in the mix design, the resulting consistency shall be maintained through-out the corresponding parts of the work and approved tests shall be conducted from time to time to ensure the maintenance of this consistency.

(i) Machine Mixing:-Coarse aggregate sand and cement shall be serially put into the cement concrete mixer to have the designed proportion. The machine shall then be revolved to mix the materials dry and the water shall be thereafter added gradually to the designed quantity. The mixing should be through to give a plastic mix of uniform colour.

It requires 1.5 to 2 minutes rotation for thorough mixing. Mixed concrete shall be unloaded on a masonry platform or on a sheet tray.

(ii) Slump:-Regular slump test should be carried out to control the addition of water and to maintain the required consistency. Concrete with water exceeding the approved water cement ratio shall not be used in the work.

(c) Distribution of Concrete The concrete shall be distributed from the mixer to the placing-in position in the works

by approved means which do not cause segregation or otherwise impair the quality of the concrete.

Mixing and distributing materials shall be clean before commencing mixing and distribution of concrete, and such equipment shall be kept free from set concrete.

(d) Placing Concrete The shuttering shall be realigned and rubbish shall be removed before placing

concrete. Shuttering shall have to be wetted by approved means. The interval of mixing water to cement and aggregate to placing shall not be more than 30 minutes. Except where otherwise approved, concrete shall not be dropped from a height or handled in a manner which shall cause segregation. Accumulation of set concrete on reinforcement

shall be avoided. Concrete shall be placed on its permanent position and shall not be worked along the shuttering to that position.

Each layer of concrete, while being placed, shall be consolidated by mechanical vibration to form a dense material with all surfaces free from honeycombing and tolerably free from water and air holes or other blemishes. Any water accumulating on the surface of newly placed concrete shall be removed by approved means and no further concrete shall be placed thereon until such water be removed. Unless otherwise stated, concrete shall be placed in a single operation to the full thickness of slab, beam and similar members and shall be placed in horizontal layers not exceeding 30cm(1.00 ft) deep in walls, columns and similar members. Concrete shall be placed continuously until completion of the part of the work between construction joints as specified. Vibration and consolidation shall be done within 1.5 hours of the mixing. All concrete shall be vibrated with a high frequency vibrator of approved make, and excess vibration shall be avoided. Care shall be taken not to disturb the reinforcement by the labourers during the works.

All holes, pockets and openings for various services, fittings, etc., shall be provided as directed. All necessary inserts in concrete work for curb angles, holdfast, pipes, cable supports, brackets, coiling, clamps for light and fans, etc., shall be fixed where necessary. R.C.C. work shall have to be fixed with masonry by means of ties of 6mm bars, at intervals, as directed by the Consultant.

(e) Construction Joints

Construction joints shall be rebated, and of approved shape and shall be vertical or horizontal, as required, except that in an inclined or curved member the joints shall be at right angles to the axis of the members. Concreting, once started, shall not be stopped until the plan shown by the Owner is reached. If a break is required, it should be at the position directed and in a manner approved by the Owner.

Construction joints shall be provided at the place approved by the Owner Attention to the understated points is desirable.

(i) A joint shall be formed as mentioned below: FOR COLUMN : Horizontally at 100 mm above the top of a foundation and

75mm (3") below the lowest soffit of the beams meeting at the head of a column.

FOR BEAM : In the rib of a large tee beam 25mm (1") below the soffit of the

slab.

Concrete in a haunch or a splay on a beam, or a brace and in the head of a column, where one or more beams meet, shall be placed without a joint at the same time as that in the beam or brace.

WALL & SLAB Concrete in the splay at the junction of a wall and a slab shall be placed without a joint at the same time as that in the slabs. Concrete on a beam shall be placed throughout without a joint but if the provision of a joint is unavoidable the joint shall be vertical and at one fourth of the span. A joint in a slab shall be vertical and parallel to the principal reinforcement.

(ii) When new concrete is to be put on hardened concrete, the face of the old concrete shall be cleaned with a wire brush, and roughened, and scum, loose aggregate removed immediately before placing the new concrete, the face shall be thoroughly wetted and a coat of lean cement grout applied over it. The new concrete shall be rammed properly before the grout sets.

(f) Structure Joint

Expansion and construction joints, hinges or other permanent structure joints shall be provided in the position and according to the form described in the drawing or elsewhere, or as directed by the Site Incharge.

(g) Curing

After about 24 hours of laying when concrete has begun to harden it shall be kept damp by covering with wet gunny bags or wet sand continuously for 28 days.

(h) Testing of Concrete

(i) Consistency Test:- Regular slump test should be carried out to control the addition of water and to

maintain the required consistency. A rough guide of workability of concrete, in terms of slump stated hereunder can be kept in mind while designing the concrete mixes.

(ii) Compression Test:- Throughout the contract period, "work cube tests" are to be made from concrete

drawn from newly laid concrete or concrete about to be placed in position. Such cubes shall be made in the presence of the Owner and as per the stated "Tests on Concrete".

Each cube shall be marked with the date of casting and a distinctive reference number, in accordance with a system agreed by the Owner. A record shall be kept of the position from which the concrete for each set of cubes was drawn, or to which it was about to be placed.

(iii) Structural Test:- If in the Owner's opinion, there is a doubt as to the strength of a structure, solely or

in part for the reason that the site made concrete cubes fail to attain the specified strength, or because of other circumstances, attributable to alleged negligence on the part of the Contractor, then the Consultant shall instruct of the Contractor to make a loading test on the works or any part thereof. If the result of the test on the works satisfactory, except where the test has been made because test cubes fail, the contractor shall reimburse for the cost of the test. If the result of the test is not satisfactory, the contractor shall bear the cost of the test and the cost of correcting any defect in accordance with the instructions of the Owner.

No concrete in one precast piece shall be placed in one operation. No piece shall be removed from the mould erected until matured sufficiently. The piece shall be raised by a string only at the points mentioned. Cracked piece shall be rejected. Pieces shall be bedded or fixed in position as instructed by the Consultant.

(i) Provision of Inserts & Prohibition of Cutting All inserts shall be accurately fixed in position. All conduits and junction boxes and

all sanitary pipes, water pipes and down pipes, within the concrete shall be laid correctly in position to the satisfaction of the Owner. No cutting of structural concrete shall be permitted.

Measurement In calculating the contents of any R.C.C. member, for measurement purposes, the

dimensions adopted shall be of concrete members exclusive of any finish. Rate shall exclude reinforcement.

(i) Columns:-

These shall be measured in cubic metre of work done according to the drawings from top of the footing to the top of roof slab in case of ground floor and from top of slab to the top of slab for all other floors. Unless specified otherwise, nothing extra shall be admissible for any odd size and for any special section and shape of columns i.e. square, rectangular, round, elliptical etc. and laid at any angle as may be shown on the drawings.

(ii) Column Footings:-

These shall be measured in cubic meter of the concrete work done as per design/drawing. Unless specified otherwise, nothing extra shall be admissible for any particular shape of the footing.

35. STEEL REINFORCEMENT

Steel reinforcement bar tested including straightening, cleaning, cutting, bending, binding with 16-20 S.W.G. Annealed typing wire and fixing in position as per drawing, all complete, in tonne.

(i) Mild steel round bar of all sizes. (ii) Deformed or ribbed bar of all size.

(a) Materials:- With respect to manufacture, quality, physical properties, and related requirements,

reinforcement of the foregoing descriptions shall comply with appropriate parts if IS standards Nos. 432-1966 and IS 1786-1966 for mild steel and torsteel respectively. Tested Torsteel of M/S Himal Iron and Steel(P) Ltd. or of equivalent manufacture conforming to above respective standard can be used. Tested "Torkari" deformed bar or of size & type as specified by drawing can be used for distribution/links, stirrups etc.

(b) Certificates and Tests for Reinforcement For each consignment of bar reinforcement used in the works, the contractor shall, if

required, supply a certificate giving the ultimate strength, yield stress and elongation and the result of the bond test for each type and each size of bar wire. Tests for the purpose of obtaining the information shall conform the Indian Standards, For each consignment of twisted bars used in the works, the contractor shall supply the Consultant with a further certificate warranting that all the bars in the consignment are made from mild steel complying with Indian Standard specifications.

If reinforcement be supplied for which the makers' test sheets or other records are not available, or where in the Owner's opinion the material has been subject to corrosion or other deleterious effects, the Owner shall select as many test pieces as he thinks necessary, and the contractor shall supply and deliver the test pieces, free of cost and without reimbursement shall pay the cost of preparing and testing them.

(c) Dimensions & Weight of Reinforcement The size of a reinforcement bar or wire described in the working drawings or elsewhere

shall be minimum and the rolling margin and other tolerance shall be above this size. The length of a reinforcement bar shall not be less than the length on the drawing or elsewhere and shall not be more than 5cm(2 in.) in excess of that length.

The unit weight of steel bars used shall not be less than the following figures:

Specifications.

(d) Bending Reinforcement Reinforcement bars shall be bent by approved means producing gradual and even

motion. Bars shall comply with the dimensions described in the drawings. Overall dimensions of bent or internal dimensions of bindings or the like shall be within a tolerance of 32mm (1 1/4"). Any discrepancy or inaccuracy found by the Contractor in the drawings or other documents shall be immediately reported to the Owner, whose interpretation and requirements relating thereto shall be accepted. The internal radius of bends shall not be less than twice the size of the bars unless described to the contrary on the bending lists or elsewhere in the drawing. Hooks and other end anchorage bends for mild steel shall be bent to an internal radius of twice the size of the bars unless described to the contrary on the bending lists or elsewhere in the drawing. Hooks and other end anchorage bends for mild steel shall be bent to an internal radius of twice the diameter of the bar for bars up to 25mm dia & 3 times the dia of bars above 25mm dia. This internal radius of the bends at corners of binders or stirrups of links shall be half the size of the bar embraced by the binder stirrups or links.

(e) Reinforcement shall be accurately fixed and, by approved means, maintained in the position described. Bars intended to be in contact shall be securely wired together at all such points with no. 16 to 20 gauge annealed soft iron tying wire. Binders, stirrups and links shall tightly embrace the bars with which they are intended to be in contact and shall be securely wired or, if approved, spot-welded.

Reinforcement shall be lapped, joined or spliced only at the positions described. Splices and the like found to be necessary elsewhere shall be formed only if and as instructed.

Where practicable, bars in each member shall be assembled and fixed in the form of a rigid cage or skeleton before placing in the mould or shuttering.

Immediately before concreting, the reinforcement shall be checked for position, cleanliness, freedom from rust, or retarding liquid. Means shall be taken to ensure that reinforcement remains correctly in position with required cover during the placing and consolidating of the concrete.

Reinforcement, projecting from work being concreted or already concreted, shall not be bent out of its correct position for any reason unless approved, and shall be protected form deformation or other damage. Reinforcement left projecting for bending with future extensions shall be thoroughly coated with cement grout wash or encased in concrete or otherwise protected from corrosion as instructed.

(f) Cover of Concrete and Spacing of Bars Cover of concrete and spacing of bars shall be as per diagrams or as per IS 456-1978.

Measurement and Rate for Reinforcement For the purpose of ascertaining payments due to the Contractor, the basis of

measurements of bar and wire reinforcement used in the works shall be the calculated weight in kg. which shall be computed form the sizes and lengths of the bars and wires described in the working drawings or elsewhere No allowance in the weight shall be made for cutting to waste, rolling margin, extra length or other tolerances. Nothing extra whatsoever, shall be admissible on bars 12mm and below, rolled in weights higher than the standard weights, even if purchased by the contractor directly from the market on actual weight basis. The contractor is deemed to have taken this factor into consideration and quoted accordingly in the tender. The Contractor's rate for unit weight, of bar reinforcement shall be deemed to include all allowances omitted in calculating the weight and for any other tolerance, and for providing tying wire, spacer bars, and cover blocks as specified hereinafter for carriage and handling, for bending, hooking, cranking and for fixing and maintaining in the correct position in the works.

Standard laps of the lengths as shown in the drawings or as instructed at site shall be admissible. Standard hooks shall be added to the finished length to arrive at the length of the bar for cutting and measurement. No hooks are required for ribbed or tor steel.

The details of reinforcement according to the drawings are to be prepared by the contractor. It shall have to be approved by the Site Incharge before the execution of the work.

36. FORM WORK

Centring and shuttering with approved materials for all kinds of R.C.C.works, including all necessary propping, scaffolding, staging supporting, cutting holes for utilisation works etc. all complete, in m2.

(a) General Requirements

(i)The formwork should have sufficient strength to carry the dead weight of the concrete and live loads which are likely to be present during the construction stage.

(ii) All joints in formwork should be stiff so that the deformation caused by the dead and live loads shall be a minimum. All joints shall be watertight to prevent loss of liquid from the concrete.

(iii) Surface of the formwork shall be plane or as per the requirements, so that after 0removal of formwork, it should not prove costly to finish the surface concrete.

(iv) The formwork should be as light as possible.

(v) Vertical strutting shall be carried down to such construction as is sufficiently strong to carry the required support without injury.

(vi) All rubbish, chipping, shavings and sawdust shall be removed from the interior of the forms before the concrete is placed and suitable wash- out holes shall be provided to facilitate this and the formwork in contact with the concrete shall be clean and thoroughly wetted and treated with an approved mould oil. In normal circumstances, forms may be struck off after expiry of 21 days for all structures or the shuttering shall have to be kept for a period as per the written instruction of the Site Incharge. The designed live load shall not be allowed on any structure before 23 days.

Connections shall be constructed to permit easy removal of the shuttering and shall be either nailed, screwed, bolted, clamped, wired or otherwise secured so as to be strong enough to retain the correct shape during consolidation of the concrete. Holes shall be made good after removal of the bolt. The deflection shall not exceed 3mm(1/8"). Bottom of beams, boxes shall be built with an upward camber of 6mm(1/4") for every 3m(10ft.) span. The design for shuttering shall be submitted for approval, when asked. The shuttering for beams and slabs shall be erected so that the shuttering on the sides of beams and of the soffits of slabs can be removed without disturbing the beam bottoms. Repropping of beams shall not be done except when, with the approval of the Owner, props be rein-stated in anticipation of loads in excess of the design load. Vertical props shall be supported on wedges, or other measures shall be taken whereby the proper can be gently lowered vertically when commencing the removal of the shuttering. Props for and upper storey shall be placed directly over those in the storey immediately below and the lowest prop shall be sufficiently strong to carry the load. The shuttering for a column is erected to the full height of the column. Before placing the concrete, bolts and fixings shall be in position and cores and other devices used for forming openings, holes, pockets, recess and other cavities shall be fixed to the shuttering. No holes shall be cut in any concrete unless approved.

The contractor shall install all shuttering and shall be entirely responsible for the

design and erection of adequate form work of sufficient strength necessary for construction.

(b) Removal of Shuttering

Shuttering shall be removed with the utmost care by gradual easing without jarring. Before removal of shuttering, the concrete shall be properly examined by a competent supervisor, care being taken to check props, necessary for additional incidental loads even after removal of forms. The contractor shall record the date of concreting. The assessment of the period elapsing between placing the concrete and removing the shuttering and consequences arising thereof shall be the contractor's entire responsibility.

The shuttering for the part of structure suspended form concrete placed subsequently to that, in or on the shuttering concerned shall not be removed until the supporting concrete has matured and such shuttering shall be prominently marked as a warning against premature removal.

(c) Finishes Honeycombed surfaces shall be made good immediately upon removal of the

shuttering, and superficial water and holes shall be filled in. Unless instructed to the contrary, the blemishes shall be rubbed down. All honeycombing shall be made good with cement mortar(1:2). Cement mortar shall have to be done at surfaces when required to do so by the Owner.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre, of work done. Rate shall include all materials and labour, all complete.

37. BRICKWORK FOR PARTITION WORKS

Brickwork for 100mm thick wall with hollow concrete bricks in perfect line and level, finishes, including wetting the bricks, packing the joints, curing the works all complete, in m2.

(i) Brick work in(1:4) cement sand mortar. (ii) Brick work in(1:6) cement sand mortar.

(a) Materials (i) Bricks:- Machine made bricks from Brick and Tile Factory, Harisiddhi or

Bhaktapur as per specification.

(ii) Mortar:- Cement sand mortar of specified proportions(1:4) or(1:6) as per specification(civil) article no.18.

(b) Laying, Curing, Finishing

Laying, curing, finishing of brickwork shall be as per clause no.6.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of work done. Rate shall include all materials, laying, curing, finishing, scaffolding labour etc. all complete.

38. PRECAST OR M 150 WORKS

Precast R.C.C.(1:1.5:3) or M20 work for steps, coping etc. of approved size, thickness and pattern as per design with adequate quantity of M.S. reinforcements including hoisting and fixing in position, all complete.

i.Precast R.C.C.(1:1.5:3) or M20.

(a) Materials Cement:- Portland cement as per specification (civil) article no. 16. Sand:- Sand as per specification(civil)article no. 15. Aggregate:- of maximum size 12mm(1.5%) down gauge, well graded broken stones. Steel bars:- Round mild steel bars as per specifications (civil) article no.25.

(b) Proportion of Concrete

The proportion of concrete shall be 1:1.5:3 - 1 part of cement, 1.5 parts of sand, 3 parts of aggregate approximately, confirming to M15.

(c) Preparation of Concrete

Preparation shall be as per specification in clause no.37.

(d) Mixing

Mixing shall be as per specified in clause no.37.

(e) Strength of Concrete

Strength of concrete shall be as per clause no.37.

(f) Casting

Precast concrete shall be cast in properly made strong mould to form and shapes required. For work described as "finished fair" the mould shall be lined with steel sheet or other approved material.

The concrete shall be of the mixes described and shall be thoroughly tamped in the mould and shall not be removed form them until seven days after placing the concrete, but the sides may be removed after 3 days providing the mould are such that the sides are easily removable without damaging the concrete.

(g) Curing and Weathering

The precast work shall be cast under sheds and shall remain under same for seven days in the mould and a further seven days after removal from the mould. During the whole of this period the concrete shall be shielded by sacking or other approved material kept wet. It shall then be removed from the sheds and stacked in the open for at least seven days to season.

All precast work shall be cast in lengths convenient for handling. Besides main and distribution bars, extra hooking bars should be provided for hoisting and erection, as per instructions of the Consultant.

(h) Precast Units Supplied to Site

Besides the precast work does in site. If it is supplied by another manufacturer, the precast unit sample shall be submitted to the Consultant, and it shall be approved by him. The manufacturer should also be approved, and the manufacturer shall submit to the Consultant a certificate(technical specification and guarantee).

Measurement Measurement shall be in cubic metre or square metre or nos. as specified. Rates for

precast concrete shall include for all mould, materials, transporting, hoisting and fixing to the levels required, labour etc. all complete.

39. TAR FELT FIXING

TAR felt fixing as per ISI specifications, drawings. (i) Two layers of Tarfelt and three layers of mastic roofing grade, all complete, in m2.

(a) Materials (i) Tarfelt:- Tarfelt shall be of standard quality according to ISI. Tarfelt supplied

should be packed in rolls with ISI Certification mark. Tarfelt shall be free from visible external defects, such as holes, oil patches, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears, protuberances and indentations. Unless otherwise stated, tarfelt supplied shall be in widths of 90cm and 100cm and generally in lengths of 10m and 20m. The sample should be submitted to the Consultant before bulk purchase and should be approved by him.

(ii) Bitumen Mastic:-

80/100 grade bitumen shall be used and shall conform to IS; 3037/1965. This shall be supplied in sealed tins with ISI Certification mark.

(b) Preparation of Surface

Prior to laying of water proofing treatment, cement concrete or lime concrete work shall be allowed to set dry. The surface of roof and that part of parapet etc. over which the water proofing treatment is to be applied, shall be cleaned of any foreign matter by wire brushing and dusting.

(c) Laying

The felt shall be laid in lengths at right angles to the direction of the run off gradient, commencing at the lowest level and working up to the crest. In this way the overlaps of the adjacent layers of felt offers the minimum obstruction to the flow of water.

The bitumen mastic(binding material) shall be prepared by heating to the correct working temperature and conveyed to the point of work in bucket or pouring can. Each coat of each bay shall be spread evenly and uniformly by means of a float to the recommended thickness, on to the previously prepared surface, the isolating membrane or the preceding coat. Each coat of bitumen mastic shall be followed, without delay by the succeeding, since exposure to contamination(by dust or dirt) might impair adhesion and cause blistering.

The felt before laying shall be first cut to the required lengths, cleaned of dusting materials and laid out flat on roof. Each length of felt prepared for laying shall be laid in position and rolled up for a distance of half of its length. The hot binding material shall be poured on to the roof across the full width. In case of rolled felt, the felt is steadily rolled out and pressed down. The excess bonding material is squeezed out at the ends and is removed as the laying spreads. When the first half of the strip of felt has been bonded to the roof, the other half shall be rolled up and then unrolled on to the hot bonding material in the same way. Minimum overlap at the ends and the sides of strips of felt shall not be less than 7.5cm. All overlaps shall be firmly bonded with hot bitumen. The laying of second layer of felt shall be so arranged that the joints are staggered with those of the layer beneath.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of finished work. Rate shall include all materials, remelting, spreading, laying finishing, labour, etc., all complete.

40. CEMENT SAND PLASTERING

Cement sand plastering on floor, wall, ceiling etc. of good finish including raking the joints, wetting the surface and curing the work all complete, in m2.

The joints in the brick work shall be raked out to a depth of 12mm(0.5") if it has not already been done; and the surface watered and cleaned of all dust and dirt. Concrete surfaces shall be properly hacked to get adequate key. The mixture shall be applied evenly with force on the surface to be plastered. The plaster shall be of thickness as specified in the schedule. The surface shall be finished at once by being rubbed over with trowel till the cement appears on the surface. All corners, angles and junctions shall be truly vertical and horizontal as the case may be and carefully and neatly finished. Rounding of corners and junctions where required shall be done without extra charge. The finished plaster shall then be left to cure for 10 days.

Measurement

It shall be done in square metre of the surface over which the plaster has been done. The thickness of the plaster shall not be taken into account except for independent columns where the measurement shall be of finished surface allowing 12mm over the designed dimensions. Opening shall be deducted in full, and jambs and soffits shall be

allowed. Openings less than 1 sq.m.(10 sq.ft.) shall not be deducted and nothing extra shall be paid for finishing jambs, soffits and the sides of such openings. Unless otherwise specified, nothing extra shall be allowed for plaster on independent columns and beams, short width or on curved surfaces.

41. CEMENT SAND PUNNING

Element sand punning on floor, skirting, dado, etc. wetting the surface, mixing, laying and rubbing with steel trowel to a hard, smooth and shining surface and curing for a quality finish nett all complete in m2.

(i) 3mm thick cement sand punning(1:1) (ii) 3mm thick cement sand punning(1:2)

(a) Materials (i) Cement:- Portland cement as per specifications (civil) article no.16.

(ii) Sand:- River sand as per specification(civil) article no. 15.

(b) Proportion As specified in the schedule.

(c) Mixing in specified proportion as per specification(civil) article no.18.

(d) Punning Before applying cement sand punning, the first coat should be swept clean of any dust

or loose particles. The average thickness of punning shall not be less than 3mm. The pattern of the surface should be as per instructions of the Owner. The coat shall be finished by rubbing with a steel trowel and any depression shall be filled in and rubbed to a shining surface. All corners and edges shall be rounded. The contractor shall prepare a sample square metre of the punning as per instructions of the Owner until the quality, texture and finish required is obtained and approved by the Consultant, after which all punning executed shall conform with the respective approved sample. All punning shall be finished smooth, even and truly level and as per instructions of the Consultant. The punning shall be kept wet for 7 days.

Measurement

The measurement shall be taken in square metre for the finished surface. The rate shall include all the materials and labour, complete.

42. COLOURING/PAINTING

Inside and outside painting with approved colour and paints to give uniform colouring after rendering the surface clean and moist.

Inside and outside colouring with water proof cement paint like super Snowcem, Durocem in two coats, all complete, in m2.

(a) Materials All the painting materials shall be only ready mixed type in sealed tins of approved

makes. Waterproofing cement paint shall be obtained from approved brand manufacturers as specified.

(b) Delivery and Application of Paint All materials required for the work are to be delivered to the site in their containers with

seal, etc., unbroken and are to be clearly marked with manufacturer's name and trade marks and a description of contents and colour.

Paint shall be mixed and applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and with the approval of the Owner. All materials shall be stored at the site of work. All paints shall be applied by means of a brush.

(c) Addition to Paints The only addition which will be allowed to be made locally will be liquid thinner supplied

or recommended according to the manufacturer's instructions and none shall be thinned more than as approved by the Owner.

(d) Application Before painting is commenced on surface, all dirt and foreign matter shall be

completely removed. The surface shall be sprayed several times with a few minutes interval between each spraying, to allow the moisture to soak into the surface. Cement paint solution shall be applied to the surface with hair brushes in a number of coats to get uniform finish. After the first coat of the paint has hardened, it shall be cured with water at least for 24 hours before the second coat is applied. Similarly, required number of coats(minimum two) or as specified shall be given to get a uniform colour. It shall be kept damp at least for seven days.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of the actual covered area. Nothing extra shall be allowed for painting any rough surface e.g. external-sand-faced plaster or work in short width or surfaces in any shape. Rate shall include scaffolding etc., and should include all materials and labour, all complete. Paint shall be mixed and applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and with the approval of the Owner. All materials shall be stored at the site of work. All paints shall be applied by means of a brush.

(d) Application Before painting is commenced on surface, all dirt and foreign matter shall be

completely removed. The surface shall be wetted by sprinkling of water with fine spray. The surface shall be sprayed several times with a few minutes intervals between each spraying, to allow the moisture to soak into the surface. Cement paint solution shall be applied to the surface with hair brushes in a number of coats to get uniform finish. After the first coat of the paint has hardened, it shall be cured with water at least for 24 hours before the second coat is applied. Similarly, required number of coats(minimum two) or as specified shall be given to get a uniform colour. It shall be kept damp at lease for seven days.

Measurement

Measurement shall be in square metre of the actual covered area. Nothing extra shall be allowed for painting any rough surface e.g. external-sand-faced plaster or work in short width or surfaces in any shape. Rate shall include scaffolding etc., and should include all materials and labour, all complete.

43. ENAMEL PAINTING ON WOODEN SURFACE

Painting in wooden surface with enamel(ready made) paint of approved colour in two coats over one coat of primer in properly sanded surface for high class finish, all complete in m2.

(a) Materials Primers and Paints :-

Primer and paints shall be of approved quality and of approved manufacture, as specified. These materials shall be ready mixed and in sealed tins with required quantity stocked at site.

(b) Preparation of the Surface

All surfaces shall be thoroughly planed and sand papered. In case of surface having knots and nail holes, they should be filled with stopping and knotting materials. The knotting material shall consist of pure shellac dissolved in methylated spirit. For stopping, Russian tale or putty shall be used.

The latter should consist of two parts of whiting (powdered chalk), one part of white lead mixed together in double boiled linseed oil and well kneaded. The surface thus

treated shall be allowed to dry up and then sand papered. Otherwise a ready made approved putty may be used.

(c) Application

After preparing the surface, the priming coat shall be applied with hair brushes. Thereafter a top coat shall be applied. Another coat shall be applied after the previous coat is dry. Care should be taken that dust or other foreign materials do not settle or otherwise disfigure the various coats.

In following the above procedure, the materials to be used will depend upon the type of paint specified and only such materials as are consistent with a particular type and brand shall be used. The same brand of materials will be used for various coats. All paints shall be used and applied as per manufacturer's specification. The paints shall be applied with bristle brushes and not horse hair ones. The paints shall be applied in the thinnest possible layers with parallel drawings, no flowing down shall be allowed. Painting to false ceiling and acoustic materials such as thermocool, perforated acoustic tile, soft board etc. shall be done by spray painting only.

Measurement Measurement shall be included in the item of work unless otherwise stated in the

(c) Application

The ready made varnish of French polish of approved quality shall be applied with brushes using strong, firm strokes of brushes and spread evenly. The brushes shall be of good quality and perfectly cleaned. In no case shall sand papers be rubbed across the grain, which may cause fine marks on the finished surface. Unless any other brand is specially mentioned, specified quality of copal varnish or French polish shall then be laid on the prepared surface in thin coats.

For new wood work, a second coat of varnish or French polish should be applied after the first coat has thoroughly dried and rubbed down with fine sand - paper before the second coat and after each coat of varnish or French polish except the last. No. of coats of varnishes, or polishes shall be as specified. No polishing shall be done during dry weather and should not be allowed to be undertaken in rainy days.

Measurement Measurement shall be as specified in clause no.43.

45. CHROMIUM PLATED GRATING

Chromium plated grating(perforated C.P. roof outlet) including fixing in position, as per drawing, all complete, in nos.

(i) 100mm diameter chromium plated grating. (ii) 150mm diameter chromium plated grating. (a) Materials The chromium plated grating(perforated C.P. roof outlet) shall be Indian manufactured

and of approved quality.

(b) Construction The chromium plated grating(perforated C.P. roof outlet) of specified size should be

carefully and properly fixed on the top of the down pipes(rain water pipes) so that there is no overflowing of the rain water or leakage through the walls, as per drawing or instructions of the Owner.

Measurement The measurement shall be taken in numbers of the finished work. The rate shall

included all the materials and labour, complete.

46. ANODISED ALUMINIUM WINDOWS & DOORS

The Contractor shall receive and stack the windows on delivery, off-loading crated windows by crane(or unpacking the windows in the truck and off-loading singly). The windows shall be handled with care, stacked on edge on level bearers and supported evenly, against a wall or vertical bearers, under cover.

The Contractor shall fix windows throughout in prepared openings and shall be responsible for assembling composites, bedding and pointing with mastic inside and out at the mullions and transoms, fixing lugs to the frames placing the windows in the openings and beading with mastic.

The Contractor shall be responsible for all builders' work including all grouting, cutting out and making good required, forming fixing holes for inserting loose lugs, bolts and clips, and for all stacking of windows adjacent to their respective openings and any necessary hoisting and shall be responsible for the windows being set straight, plumb and level, and for their satisfactory operation after fixing is complete.

Windows shall be fixed into prepared openings. Windows shall not be forced into openings, which are out of square or too small. The opening must show at least 2.5 mm tolerance all round. The windows shall be secured at head, jambs and sill, and care shall be taken to ensure that the windows are not distorted when screwing up lugs or fixing screws. Window frames shall be grouted with cement mortar well tamped into the channel of the frame and the space between the frame and the masonry. The exterior joints between building openings and window frames shall be raked out to a depth of 10mm and the grooves thus formed shall be caulked with mastic cement of an approved make.

The mastic cement shall be stone colour, of such composition that it will not stain the stonework, will receive paint without bleeding, will not sag or run and will not set hard or dry out under any conditions of weather or temperature recorded in the locality of the building.

Fittings shall be applied after all plastering is completed, or Fittings shall be wrapped and protected from damage until after all rough trades have completed.

The Contractor shall supply to the glazier full instructions for the proper glazing of the windows and the glazier shall in any case undertake to ensure that his work complies with the recommendations of the window manufacturer.

The putty shall be waterproof and of a type specially prepared for use with metal windows, and of a make approved by the site incharge.

Windows shall be formed of extruded sections, of(aluminium). Two samples showing a finish to be agreed shall be submitted, one being retained by the site incharge.

The aluminium windows shall conform with the details shown on drawings.

All casements shall open as indicated on drawings and schedules, and shall be fitted with butts with non-ferrous pins. Projecting hinges shall be provided where indicated. Pivoting windows shall be fitted with ring centres or friction centres. For aluminium windows pivots shall be aluminium of nickel or chromium plated bronze. Sliding windows shall be of approved quality and the rollers shall be of ball bearing type of approved quality.

Fittings shall be supplied to retain the casement rigidly in both the open and closed positions. Side hung or vertically pivoted windows shall be fitted with approved handles or cabing hooks. Horizontally pivoted windows shall be fitted with approved peg stays or spring catch or transom(cam) opener, cable control or screw gearing as indicated on the drawings or schedules.

Except where the head of the masonry opening & well throated, weather bars shall be attached at head of fixed frame to outward opening windows or as sills of inward opening windows to opening frame. Every weather bar at the sill of an opening frame shall be turned up at the point where it is adjacent to the fixed frame at the jamb of the inward opening portion.

Glazing beads shall be of the type known as screwless and shall be of metal. Holes shall be tapped at suitable places to receive the bead studs to be supplied with the window. Where beads are external the bead of any pane shall be solid or if of channel form shall be filled with mastic at the time glazing is coming out. Bronze studs shall not be used to fix galvanised steel beads. Lugs(screws) shall be provided by the manufacturer to the full number shown on the drawings. All necessary spring glazing clips shall be provided by the contractor. Windows with panes larger than 300mm by 450mm shall be prepared for clamp clips unless beads are specified.

Composite windows shall be delivered complete assembled with mullions and transoms or as separate units for assembly at the site as may be decided by the manufacturer.

Transoms and mullions, complete with all necessary coupling screws and nuts, shall be supplied as shown on the drawings. Transoms and mullions shall be bedded on assembly at the factory or at the site in mastic cement, when should be obtained from individual suppliers; it is imperative that their performance in service shall at least satisfy the requirement of Appendix "A" for which see editorial text page 1-325. Anodic Finishes Pre-treatment:-Prior to anodising, the significant surfaces shall be treated to provide any

of the following:-

(i) Chemical satin finish.

Anodising:- The aluminium shall be treated to comply with B.S. 3987: 1966 to provide an anodic coating of 25 microns average thickness.

NOTE:-Significant surfaces shall be those on which the special properties are required and

shall include those which in use are continuously exposed to the external atmosphere, with such limitations as shall be agreed between the finisher and specifier. Where necessary the significant surfaces shall be appropriately marked on drawings or samples. The appearance of the finish and the degree of colour matching shall be assessed by reference to samples agreed with the purchaser and maintained within agreed limits.

47. DEWATERING DURING CONSTRUCTION

The Contractor shall keep and maintain the construction site clear of water. The removal of any amount of water that may be present or may appear at any moment along with the control of seepage water at the site shall be the entire responsibility of the Contractor and all costs incurred thereof shall be borne by the Contractor. For dewatering, the Contractor shall furnish, install, maintain and operate necessary pumps, including construction of pump sump, electrical installations and all related accessories. In addition, the Contractor shall have sufficient reserve pumps, with a capacity not less than that of the installed pumps, and kept ready for service when the failure of any of the installed units occur.

Furthermore, the Contractor shall ensure that all drainage works will be culminated without causing interference to his own work and all other Contractor operating elsewhere at the construction site. The dewatering system should be installed in such a way that alterations and extension of the system during operation also become possible.

The Contractor shall also install emergency power units with adequate capacity to feed the needed power to the installed pumps during sudden power failures at his own cost.

48. TEST ON REINFORCEMENT STEEL

The Contractor shall submit the Test Certificates showing the yield strength, ultimate tensile strength & other directed tests of each lot of reinforcement steel procured and brought at the site. Any steel not conforming to the specification shall be removed from the site immediately at the Contractor's expense.

49. TEST ON AGGREGATE

Sieve analysis report & other directed test results of each lot of aggregate(Fine and Coarse) procured and brought at the site shall be submitted to the Owner. Aggregates not conforming to the specification shall be removed from the site immediately at the Contractor's expense.

50. TEST ON CONCRETE WORK

Samples from fresh concrete shall be taken as per IS 1199-1959 and cubes shall be made, cured & tested at 28 days in accordance with IS 516-1959.

The minimum frequency of sampling of concrete of each grade shall be in accordance with the following:

The test strength of the sample shall be the average of the strength of three specimens. The individual variation should not be more than 15 percent of the average.

Concrete not showing the specified strength shall be broken and recasted at no extra cost to the owner.

TESTING LABORATORY

All testing works shall be done at an acceptable Material Testing Laboratory. All incurred costs for testing purposes are to be borne by the Contractor.

51. SITE OFFICE AND ACCOMMODATION AT SITE FOR OWNER

The Contractor, at his cost, shall provide, maintain and furnish an office room with a toilet for the sole use of the Owner. The office shall have minimum area of 20 m2, well insulated, water proof. The office shall be provided with linoleum covering, 2 nos stools, 6 nos cushion chairs, 2 nos. half size cabinet lockable drawing table, 2 stand fans & required temporary

road access to the office. The Contractor shall provide sanitary facilities containing one Indian squatting pan, one urinal with suitable temporary septic tank, soakpit & drainage office & sanitary facilities shall be regularly served, watched and cleaned.

52. CONCRETE MIX DESIGN

(a) Concrete mix design for M15, M20 and M25 classes of concrete for Reinforced Cement Concrete Works shall be submitted for approval to the Owner before the commencement of any structural concrete work. Mix design of concrete for the particular strength class shall be established in accordance to the relevant standards and practice.

(b) Single sized coarse aggregates(confirming to IS 383-1970)(20mm & 10mm single sized aggregates shall be mixed for concrete with 20mm max. size aggregate) and river sand conforming to IS 383-1970 shall be mixed to a suitable proportion by weight to achieve the combined gradation limits specified in Road Note No:4 on other equivalent standards.

(c) Mix design report shall consist of the following submissions: (i) Sieve analysis report of combined coaggregates (mixed single sized aggregates of

different nominal sizes).

(ii) Sieve analysis report of Fine aggregate(River Sand).

(iii) Sieve analysis report of combined gradation of coarse and fine aggregates.

(iv) Aggregate ratio, water ratio, slump value. cement

(v) Laboratory Test report of the Concrete Cubes of the proposed MIX DESIGN.

(d) For preliminary mix design and for the test purposes twelve cubes in number shall be cast, three for 7 days and nine for 28 days test. The sampling, Casting and testing of those cubes shall be in accordance to IS 1199-1959, & IS 516- 1959.

The waterstop shall be cut and jointed at the site as per the manufacturer's specification. The Contractor shall submit samples and brochures of the P.V.C. waterstop which he proposes to use & get approval from the Owner before proceeding for its procurement.

(a) Reinforced Cement Concrete Spun Pipes The R.C.C. pipes of specified class shall be true and straight with uniform bore

throughout. Cracked warped pipes shall not be used on the work. All pipes shall be tested by the manufacturer and the Contractor shall produce, when directed, a certificate to that effect from the manufacturer.

(b) Laying R.C.C. spun pipes shall be laid on cement concrete bed or cradles as specified. The

cradles may be precast and sufficiently cured to prevent cracks and breakage during handling. The invert of the cradles shall be left 12mm below the invert level of the pipe and properly placed on the soil to prevent any disturbance. The pipe shall then be places on the bed concrete or cradles and set for line and gradient by means of sight rails and boring rods etc. Cradles or concrete bed may be omitted, if directed by the Owner.

(c) Jointing After setting out the pipes the collar shall be centred over the joint and filled in with

tarred gaskin, till sufficient space is left on the other side of the collar to receive the mortar. This space shall then be filled with cement mortar 1:2(1 cement: 2 fine sand) and caulked by means of proper tools. All joints shall be finished at an angle of 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the pipe on both sides of the collars.

(d) Testing All pipes shall be tested to a hydraulic test of 1.5m head for at least 30 minutes at the

highest point in the section under test. Tests shall be carried out similarly as those for stoneware pipes. The smoke test shall also be carried out by the Contractor, if directed by the Owner at the Contractors expense.

55. G.I. STORAGE TANKS

G.I. sheet storage tanks shall be of riveted construction. The sheets shall be new and of 14 gauge thickness riveted to angle iron(size 40mm x 40mm x 6mm) frames. The sheets shall be fixed by means of 6mm dia. rivets at 38mm pitch on all sides except on top angle iron frame which shall be 63.5mm pitch. Holes of riveting shall be drilled and not punched. White lead shall be applied before riveting the surface to be jointed. Tanks of lengths up to 180cms shall be provided with one manhole cover and of lengths greater than 180cms shall have two manhole covers. Each manhole cover shall be 45cms dia cast iron or mild steel with locking arrangement. Out lets for manhole shall be made smooth to allow smooth flow

of water. All outlets connections shall be at least one size higher than the pipe connection and shall be connected to the pipe by a reducer. The water tank shall have provision for inlet, outlets & overflow pipes or any other provision needed & as directed by the Owner. Shop drawing of the storage tank shall be submitted for approval before proceeding for its fabrication.

56. Heritage Granite Finish

Heritage Granite Finish is a textured surface coating material which is made with Dry Granite Flakes,Flakes bonding agent and top coat. The dry Granite Flakes are made from china clay,pigment,homo-polymer emulsion,mica etc. Flakes bonding agent is made of acrylic co-polymer emulsions,broad spectrum fungicide etc. and top coat is made from solvent based acrylic polymer.

Application

The dry Granite flakes are mixed with flakes bonding agent and recommended quantity of water.The dough is then trowelled on to the substrate to be coated to get average coating thickness in the range of 0.8-1.2 mm. After thorough drying of the coated Granite Flakes,The surface is sanded and dust is removed. Top coat is then applied using a brush.

1. ALUMINIUM WORK1.1 General

The window shall be made out of extruded aluminium section (Al. Mg. Si.) and shall conform to IS – 63400, AA-6063 unless otherwise directed. Aluminium sections shall be anodised and the anodic film shall be 12-15 microns. The colours shall be as directed. The 2-3 tracks on outer frame of standard size otherwise directed shall be fixed in the position by using heavy duty plastic grips with necessary plugs and fillers. All the sliding shutters shall be provided with two ball bearing rollers and ratting pieces/guides one each at the top and bottom, weather strips all around. Main members shall be of such strength that a wind pressure of 1.16 kPa shall cause a deflection of not more than 1/240 of the span of the member. No permanent deflection shall result from such conditions of loading. Joints shall be sufficiently robust to withstand the above loading without causing failure or movement. 3. Fabrication Fabricated aluminum work covered by this specification shall be supplied and installed by the well-known local aluminum fabricators as approved by the Project Engineer. Before placing any orders the Contractor shall state the name of the window manufacturer he has selected from the list of approved manufacturers. The nominated manufacturer shall not be changed without prior approval of the Project Engineer. Fabrication shall be according to best practices and all cutting and shaping shall be made with properly functioning machinery manufactured for the purpose of fabricating aluminium products. Hand cutting, shaping and slot cutting by hand will not be acceptable. Joints shall be mitered or coped and shall be provided with extruded corner reinforcement. All joints shall be tight fitting, flush with the adjoining member, neat and sealed. Slots shall be provided in all vertical guides and sides of the bottom track to allow water to be flushed out.


All fabrication shall conform to the configuration of windows and ventilators shown in the design drawings or as directed by the Project Engineer. The size of individual windows and ventilators shall be measured after the rough openings have been plastered. The dimensions of the widows and ventilators shall allow a 5-7mm gap between the frame and rough opening to provide space to inject a silicon seal. The Contractor shall assume full responsibility to ensure the dimensions of the windows and ventilators match size of the openings. All surfaces shall be adequately protected during fabrication, transportation and storage to prevent any damage. Bent, dented or scratched sections and scratched glass will not be accepted and all such items shall be replaced. The Contractor shall arrange for the preparation of complete workshop drawings of all fabricated aluminum work and shall submit same to the Project Engineer for approval.

4. Assembling The whole assembling process is done in the factory on assembling tables. The frames and sash are assembled using screw and silicon in the corner joints to ensure perfect water proofing.

5. Installation The fabricator shall be responsible for all window and ventilator installation and shall well-trained and competent staff for this work. Before installation all rebates shall be fully painted with type and color of paint specified for the adjacent walls or ceiling. The tracks shall be installed with 40mm pan head screws and plastic grips at sufficiently close intervals to rigidly secure the tracks to the walls, lintels and sills. Neoprene plastic shims shall be placed on both the interior and exterior side between the aluminium tracks and the sides of the window opening at all screw locations. The tracks shall be perfectly plumb, level and square forming exact 90-degree angles at the corners and parallel with walls. The 5-7mm gap between the tracks and the rough opening shall be filled with a thermocol plastic filler and sealed with silicon in a neat, smooth bead flush with the face of the track. Following completion of the installation the aluminium section faces shall be cleaned of all silicon, finger marks and other matter and the tracks shall be vacuumed to remove all aluminium fillings, dust and other matter. The window and ventilator glass shall also be cleaned.

8. Measurement Windows shall not be measured but rate shall be based on a fixed cost for each style of window and ventilator. The rate shall include the cost of all material, fabrication, installation and cleaning, all complete.

9. Aluminium Partitions These shall be from proven, simple and elegant material made from a reputed and approved manufacturing unit. The boards shall be made from partly laminated and partly glazed with glass of thickness 4mm. Variation in other decorative texture/pattern finish designs should also be a possibility.

Partitions will be made from aluminium confirming to IS standards and to BS. The partition shall be either square edge or tapered edge finished. The frames

of aluminium partition should be best quality of powered coated.

The partition is to be out of various manufactured sizes of boarding/lining material adequately and rigidly strengthened by metal studs and noggings. The partition material should be carefully handled and stored and never dragged while moving.
