Although my hobbies have always included construction projects such as this ‘off the grid’ cabin I built last summer, this was my first time actually taking a Technological Design course. I had a ton of fun learning new skills which I know will come in handy in future years. Thanks again to everyone for all the helpful feedback with the class activities. I really did enjoy working on a lot of the projects featured in this portfolio

I think it’s important for students to explore different career pathways and I found it interesting to learn and research about all the different careers connected to the design sector.

This part of the course was fun for me as I am really interested in acquiring more of these sorts of skills. I actually didn’t originally realize how important graphical skills are and how interconnected both communications tech and technological design actually are. Of course it makes sense that after designing something, you would want to present your design ideas in an effective manner. However, I am still learning and plan to take the communications tech course next to learn a bit more about how these two areas of technological education overlap.

This was my first experience creating a virtual 3D model of a house. I had a ton of fun working on this specific project, especially seeing as I one day plan to build my own home myself. Additionally, I realize now how effective a program like Chief Architect can be for a construction project such as this. I also love being able to create a general picture of my design ideas from conception to completion. Finally, I think it’s really neat how much this sort of design software has evolved over the years.

I think this is a fantastic project idea for giving students a basic introduction to the design process. I could definitely see myself integrating a project like this into a technological design course. I had a lot of fun working on my bedroom design, and I think a program like Google Sketch-up is great starting point for an introductory assignment like this one. Additionally, I thought the 3D warehouse was pretty cool. I liked being able to “shop” online for the furniture I wanted to include in my design. I think students would like this feature also.

Sketching is totally new to me, so I had a lot of fun trying out various different sketching techniques throughout the course. In this case, I learned the value in being able to create a one-point perspective drawing. I think students would enjoy learning this process as well. I was a bit surprised at how challenging it was to create something simple like a view of a room.
