Study Kicks Off in Pinellas County The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 7 is conducting a corridor planning study along Alternate US 19 (SR 595) from Park Street North to the Pinellas/Pasco County Line in Pinellas County – a distance of approximately 28.9 miles. The corridor is divided into two (2) study segments. The 11-mile southern segment begins at Park Street North and ends at Belleair Road, and traverses through the cities of Largo and Seminole. The northern segment is from Belleair Road to the Pinellas/Pasco County Line. The 17.9 mile northern segment traverses through the cities of Clearwater, Dunedin and Tarpon Springs, as well as unincorporated Palm Harbor. The study will evaluate potential solutions for the corridor that will establish a more walkable, bicycle- friendly, community environment. The Alternate US 19 corridor study will use FDOT’s Complete Streets policy to showcase how Complete Streets approaches can shape a corridor. The study, which began in December 2016, is expected to continue for approximately 24 months and will include technical work and data analysis, along with various opportunities for the public to be involved in discussing a vision for Alternate US 19 that makes it accessible for all users. Schedule

• Collecting necessary information to identify the transportation issues and their causes along Alternate US 19 within the project limits.

• Coordinating with key stakeholders and engaging the public in order to develop a vision for the corridor that can help support ongoing and future planning efforts.

• Developing workable solutions to meet current and future needs that are in line with the corridor vision and improve traffic operations and safety conditions.

The Alternate US 19 Corridor study began in December 2016 and is anticipated to be completed in 24 months. Project activities will include:

The elected and agency officials’ kickoff meeting was held on March 22nd, 2017. To view a copy of the presentation from that meeting, please click here.

Join the ConversationWhat is a Corridor Study?

A corridor study is the first step in planning by defining the corridor’s needs. A corridor study generally defines the relationships between a roadway and its adjacent land. Corridor studies are also used to: define acceptable levels of access and mobility; determine transportation system needs to support surrounding land uses, and identify operational

deficiencies, among other things. This corridor study will include stablishing a shared v is ion that wi l l a l low the community to help set project goals and objectives. The vision will guide the project team to develop a set of improvements that leverage local resources, match local conditions and desires, and are consistent with ongoing planning and development efforts.

Project Contacts

A Project Advisory Group (PAG) composed of local government and agency representatives are working collaboratively to develop a vision for the community and to guide the overall study process. They are working towards developing a vision for the corridor that establishes a multi-modal approach and identifies potential solutions for the corridor that establish a more walkable, bicycle-friendly, urban environment. The PAG will meet at key points throughout the study to collaborate with the project team to ensure that the corridor vision and improvement

alternatives are well-coordinated with local planning efforts and community goals. We would also like to hear from you!

Project Visioning Charrettes will be held during the spring/summer of 2017. If you would like to participate in the Visioning Charrettes please visit our project website at www.fdotd7studies.com/altus19studies and leave a comment on the Send Us Your Comments page here. You can also learn more about the project and sign up to be on the project distribution list

on the website, or by contacting Project Manager Brian Shroyer using the contact information shown below. A Public Visioning Workshop will be held in the summer of 2017 to gain public input. Potential short-term and long-term improvements for Alternate US 19 will be presented at an Alternatives Workshop that is scheduled in summer/fall of 2018.

Another way you can help us understand issues on the corridor is by taking the short survey located on the project website here.
