LCS Offers a Wide Variety of Educational Opportunities for Students in Grades K-12:Project Lead the Way: Since the 2014-15 school year, students grades 6-12 in Lapeer Community Schools (LCS) have had the opportunity to participate in a cutting-edge STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum that promotes critical thinking and creativity.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative STEM education in the United States. PLTW's comprehensive curriculum has been collaboratively designed by teachers, university educators, engineering and biomedical professionals, and school administrators to hone the real-world problem solving skills in students. PLTW courses are delivered to students at the District’s Center for Innovation – West Campus.Lapeer Early College: Through a partnership with Mott Community College and Baker College (two of our College on Campus partners), we are able give our students access to college rigor in high school while saving their parents a lot of money on college tuition. LEC students commit to three years in the program, starting in their junior year, and progress toward an associate degree. For students, the opportunity is golden; for parents, the savings are substantial, as the District covers most, and in some cases all, of the costs. Even though students commit to a 13th year, they will be able to participate in all senior-year activities including commencement. College on Campus: LCS offers opportunities for free and low-cost college credit in high school through partnerships with the University of Michigan-Flint, Mott Community College, Baker College and Eastern Michigan. Students can receive college credit during the traditional school day without leaving the District. Advanced Placement: Advanced Placement (AP) is an academic program created by the College Board which offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students. American colleges and universities may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations. LCS currently offers 17 AP courses to students at the secondary level.

LCS is also one of only a handful of schools to offer AP Capstone. AP Capstone is a College Board program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by

colleges. It cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions. AP Capstone consists of AP Research and AP Seminar. Lapeer Homeschool Partnership: The Lapeer Homeschool Partnership was developed to provide tuition-free academics and extra-curricular options to the homeschool community. Together, we believe that education is vitally important to the future of our community. We believe that parents should determine and select the educational opportunities that best meet their children’s needs. Virtual Learning: Virtual learning provides a student with a flexible schedule in terms of when and where learning takes place. Typically, courses are delivered via the Web, so students can work anytime and anywhere they have Internet access. LCS offers a wide variety of courses to students in Lapeer County and all contiguous counties. We currently offer virtual opportunities to students in grades K-12. 6-7 Transition Planning and Resources: This presentation will explain the many opportunities students have once they enter Rolland-Warner middle school.  Topics that will be covered include the different pathways students will follow through the core content areas, different elective opportunities for students, as well as other offerings including athletics and extra-curricular activities. Additionally, strategies on how to ensure a successful academic, social, and emotional transition to middle school will be included. A short question and answer session will follow the presentation.

8-9 Transition Planning and Resources: In this presentation you will learn about district opportunities and discover which academic options are available for Zemmer students. You will also gain a better understanding of the Michigan Merit Curriculum graduation requirements, hear about program options, and see how these choices fit in with scheduling and long term planning. Athletic information and extra-curricular activity information will also be covered. Zemmer counselors and administrators will be available to answer individualized questions, following the presentation.
