All registration must be completed on or before April 30, 2019 to avoid a late fee. Late registration will

be accepted until May 15, 2019.

If you plan to bring a guest, please complete a guest registration form. Soror and Guest Registration forms

are included in this packet. You may not register non-financial members as guests.

ADDITIONAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Special Needs Rooms: When making reservations, please request a handicapped accessible room.

Other: Complete the Special Needs and Health History Form and submit with your conference

registration.

Registration Materials Pick-Up Please bring and present your financial card and photo identification when you check-in.

Sorors unable to attend the conference may request their Chapter Basileus or Graduate Advisor

(Undergraduate Chapter Only) to pick up their registration packet. The following information will be

required upon registration check-in:

➢ A signed letter is required from the absent soror giving permission to release her packet.

➢ The Soror picking up the packet will be required to present her financial card and the authorization

letter.

➢ Only the Chapter Basileus or Grammateus will be allowed to sign for an absent Soror’s packet if

she does not send a letter.

➢ No conference registration materials or souvenirs will be mailed.

Substitute Soror Registration (REQUIRES WRITTEN REQUEST)

A soror may substitute for another soror by submitting a written request signed by the original soror,

designating the name of the substitute soror. This document may be presented to the Registration

Committee upon arrival at the conference.

Substitution for a graduate delegate requires a written request from the Chapter Basileus. A substitution

for an undergraduate delegate requires a written request from the Chapter Basileus and Graduate Advisor.

Substitute Guest Registration A guest may substitute for another guest by submitting a written request signed by the original guest,

designating the name of the substitute guest and signed and dated by the sponsoring soror. This document

may be presented to the Registration Committee upon arrival at the conference.

2019 Regional Conference Workshop Descriptions

WK01 Constitution

Exemplifying Excellence by Knowing Your Documents

This interactive workshop is designed to educate participants on the importance of our sorority’s

governing documents. Members will have the opportunity to learn, refresh and challenge their

knowledge base regarding Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Constitution and Bylaws, Manual of Standard

Procedure, Chapter Bylaws, and Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised, 11th Edition, our parliamentary

authority. The workshop will focus on areas that all active sorority members are encouraged to know

and engage participants in a group activity to test mastery of the information presented.

WK02 Finance

Managing Chapter Financial Operations Using the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial

Operations

This interactive workshop provides participants with information on chapter financial procedures and

operations. Participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of the financial officers, expectations of

being a financial leader and guidelines for managing financial operations. Sorors will become well

versed on the information included in the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial Operations, which

includes budgeting, auditing internal controls and financial statement reporting.

WK03 MIP

#MIP Excels with Excellence: Steps ONE, TWO and THREE

This workshop will provide attendees a step by step instructional guide on how to have a successful and

impactful membership intake process. Participants should bring their own MIP Manual (Guidebook) to

the workshop, in order to follow along with the presenters. The workshop will allow participants to

leave with a thorough understanding of how to bring new members into the sorority with “Excellence”

and submit paperwork efficiently.

WK04 Program

Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service – A Higher Level of Community Impact

The International Program Committee will provide a workshop designed to provide insights into how

chapters are expected to successfully execute the Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service

programmatic thrust, including program resources, reporting and outcome necessities for each of the

five (5) program target areas.

WK05 Risk Management

Exemplifying Excellence Through Effective Risk Management: It’s Every Soror’s Business.

This workshop will discuss top Sorority risks; discuss best practices to effectively identify, assess, and

mitigate risk at every level of the Sorority concerning active and inactive members; and explore the role

every soror must play in mitigating risk.

WK06 Sisterly Relations

Sisterly Relations: The DNA of AKA

This workshop will focus on strengthening our sisterly bond and exploring the importance of fostering

sisterly relations within chapters. Sorors will learn strategies for maintaining a sisterly spirit during

difficult situations and steps to rediscovering your passion for our sisterhood.

WK07 Standards

Chapter Operations: Exemplifying the Alpha Kappa Alpha Standards of Excellence Approach

This interactive workshop will provide the fundamentals of operating an effective chapter. Key areas

include: chapter records management and retention, chapter assessment and end-of-year reporting. We

will also review the fundamentals of transitioning toward and electronic evaluation process.

WK08 Undergraduate Activities

Next Level EXCELLENCE: The Undergraduate Experience

Join the Undergraduate Activities Committee as we unveil the 2018 – 2020 program “LEVEL UP!

Leveraging EXCELLENCE through Vibrant Engagement & Leadership.” We will introduce your

undergraduate leaders at the international level, host an undergraduate town hall and provide the tools to

take your chapter to the next level!
