ALOHA

Manifesto

Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion and mercy.

Since the middle of the 19th century, it also has come to be used as an English greeting to say goodbye and hello. Currently, it is mostly used in the sense of "hello"

Greetings Friend.

The Aloha Manifesto is all about getting to know each other. We are going to declare war on loneliness and isolation because a society rich in human connection is a strong and powerful society. Don’t we all want to live in strong powerful societies? Of course we do.

Doing this really matters!

We are facing a loneliness epidemic. Did you know that 30%* of people feel fundamentally lonely.

I live in North America’s 4th largest city Toronto, to think that one million people in my city are lonely blows my mind.

Loneliness is a health issue. It’s as bad for you health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. It’s worse for you than obesity and diabetes.* *Study from Birmingham Young University

Isolation is bad for society. After more than a decade of being afraid of each other because of mass marketed fear it’s time to say enough.

There is not a terrorist or criminal behind every door and it’s time to stop acting like it. We are in this together. Human connections make for a stronger society.

Here is another reason. Only 25% of jobs are actually awarded based on a resume. 75% come through connections. Meeting new people creates options for you. In our economic times every little advantage is a a serious bonus.

We can live larger

All friends were once strangers. Meeting new people is part of life’s greatest joy and it is something that comes free.

So how does this work. Well, we can’t change the world in one fell swoop but we can start with baby steps.

Million’s of us spend hours everyday in coffee shops around the world working away. We are present but for the most part absent. unfortunately, most of us are lost in cyberspace during that time.

The Aloha Manifesto is all about declaring yourself open to meet people.

How we do it is pure simplicity…

Next time you are sitting somewhere working away take out a piece of paper or a napkin and write the word Aloha and circle it. That’s all it takes to declare yourself open to meeting new people.

Aloha

There are three rules to this.

1. Meet other Alohas 2. This is not a date 3. Don’t be a pest.

You never know who you might meet. Did you know that JK Rowling wrote part of the original Harry Potter sitting at Edinburgh's Elephant House Cafe. People around us are doing extraordinary things every day. Imagine what connecting could bring. You never know until you try.

Imagine the possibilities!

Please Share this. We don’t start a movement until many of us are all in on the gig.
