Transcript of Allotrope Sciences Corporation Advanced Energetic Munitions
Advanced Energetics
The Problem
For hundreds of years, artillery shells and bombs
have been 75%+ inert metal, 25%- explosive
Current high explosive can yield over 1500 cal/g, but when the “packaging” of inert steel is taken
into account, the effective energy per unit mass
drops to 500 cal/g
Advanced Energetics seeks to boost this by at least
100% to get the mass equivalent energy release
back to the level of raw high explosive
The Inventions
Patent 8,359,979 – Composite Projectile
“BAM” Bonded Advanced Munition
A munition that is suitable for a small caliber projectile
It release energy only on impact and contains no high
explosive
Patent 8,372,224 – Structurally Sound Reactive Materials;
“ARMS” Advanced Reactive materials
A material system that is comprised of aluminum with high
density inclusions
A material system that comes apart on impact and releases energy but has static structural strength
The Applications - BAM
BAM – Bonded Advanced Munitions
Reactive small-medium caliber bullets
Fully jacketed
14.5mm round
Reactive metal
core
Remnant of first
shot (mostly Ta)
Remnant of another
shot (some Ta still
bonded to Zr after
impact
The Applications - BAM
Car Door
Additional
Armor Plates:
0.5 – 1.0 in.
The Applications - BAMStart of impact
event
Each frame is 1/30th of a second – significant reaction still present after 12-15 frames or approaching 0.5 seconds
Data file: 20110428-135959Camera is saturated by fireball
The Applications – ARMS
UAVs and UCAVs are the largest emerging market – specialized munitions that are lighter but still pack a punch due to
energetic structural materials
The Applications - ARMS
GBUs, BLUs, JDAMs, mortars, and warheads
The Applications - ARMS
Manufacturers are already customizing munitions for
UAVs

YUMA, Ariz., Oct. 25 2010 (UPI) --
New tactical munitions for use
by unmanned aerial vehicles
have been successfully tested
by the Raytheon Company
Harop is a loitering munition (LM)
system developed in Israel by
the MBT Missiles Division of Israel
Aerospace Industries (IAI). The
unmanned combat aerial
vehicle is also known as the
Harpy-2 loitering munitions
missile. The drone loiters over the
battlefield and attacks the
targets by self-destructing into
them.
Raytheon’s AGM-175 Griffin, is an
example of a smaller guided munition
that provides many of the benefits that
a guided rocket does (in mass
[14.5kg] and collateral effects), while
offering enhanced guidance
capability with options of GPS-
coordinated target location, inertial
navigation or laser designation.
The Business Model
Further targeted technology maturation to
demonstrate functionality and suitability for
applications
Joint Ventures (Allotrope / KMI / TNO)
Shared risk, shared reward
Materials and Component Supply
Materials and sub-assembly manufacturing
The Next Steps - BAM
BAM for projectiles is at a high technology
readiness level
Highly focused development on small to medium caliber projectiles
Develop and produce rounds to shoot
Initial demonstrations and sales to US Govt. clients
Materials and component production ramp-up
The Next Steps - ARMS
ARMS for structural reactive components is at a
somewhat lower technology readiness level
Additional materials engineering work to increase technology readiness
Market survey especially for UAV / UCAV market
Work with KMI and TNO to raise the funds
necessary to complete the science
Targeted materials and component development
Materials and component production ramp-up
Investment or Partnership
Opportunity
Allotrope is actively seeking investors and vetting
technology and manufacturing partners.
BAM is at TRL 6 for small caliber rounds and TRL 5
for medium caliber.
ARMs is at TRL 3.
