COMPLIANCE
Difference between Life and Death A fire door is a vital safety component of any building or structure. It is not only there to protect the building, but to save the lives of the occupants in the event of a fire.
The average fire door spends it life in service as a door, it also has to be able to perform without compromise in the event of a fire. Just like an airbag in one’s vehicle, we will only know how well it performs when it is put to the test – the difference between life and death.
Essentially the only question a specifier, contractor, developer, consultant or quantity surveyor needs to ask is – why risk specifying anything else when the consequences are so severe?
Allandel is a name that is synonymous with the very best in fire doors. With 31 years of supply to the industry, we have stood the test of time and adapted to changes and challenges in the industry. We continually strive to improve our offering and we always provide peace of mind.
Allandel will advise you in specifying the correct door for your needs, and ensure compliance without compromise. All of our fire doors go through stringent tests in our own research and development department, and meet and exceed national and international standards.
Insist on compliance, insist on Allandel fire doors – peace of mind will follow.
Every door that we manufacture has approved South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) certification.
Allandel fire doors are tested in accordance with SANS 1253:2016 compliance
WHY SPECIFY ALLANDEL?

Compliance without Compromise Allandel will assist you in finding ways that would enable compliance without compromise should your needs surpass the limitations of our tested prototypes. Through our own research and development, we have identified areas that could potentially compromise any door in service and in the event of a fire. All of our doors, throughout all the classes, therefore meet and exceed the specifications as set out in SANS 1253:2016 including:
• Door thickness,
• Frame rebates,
• Frame material thickness,
• Fixing lug quantity,
• Hinge quantity and quality and
• Excellent cold face thermal results.
31 YEARSOF EXCELLENCE

Our FramesAllandel frames have set the standard in the industry. Our unique jointing detailing ensures frames that are neat and true. All Class A, B and E doors are provided with pre-galvanised steel frames made out of 1.6mm thick steel, while our Class D doors are manufactured out of 2.0mm thick pre-galvanised steel.
Our rebates for all Class A, B and E frames are nominally 47mm x 30mm while our Class D frame rebates are 63mm x 30mm.
Allandel frames are made to the specific needs of site and can accommodate all wall thicknesses and finishes, including drywalls.
We offer an assortment of frame types, namely:
• Single rebate
• Double rebate
• Build-in (lug type) or
• Bolt-on.
Our CoreAll Allandel fire doors are made up of a high quality non-combustible composite core material that varies across the various Classes to ensure that the door performs in the event of a fire. The core is fully described in our SABS testing reports.
The design and manufacturing process of our doors has been carefully engineered and continuing research and development ensures that the core maintains its stability and integrity. This results in superior performance across the board, with excellent thermal readings on the cold face of our doors.
We fully disclose the content of our doors to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS)
Allandel supplies some of the largest Class A, B, D and E doors available in South Africa. Our rebates to our double doors do not require unsightly slam bars or T bars which makes our double doors unique, offering neat, flush meeting styles – all fully tested.

You can choose any veneer finish for your doorVeneered doors can be manufactured to order where the aesthetic is important to the architect or developer. Masonite or commercial veneer is recommended for painting.
We can also manufacture steel clad doors where hardy service is expected or where the doors may be exposed to the weather.
Stainless steel kick plates are recommended for installations where the doors can be damaged by vacuum cleaners or trollies etc.
All Class A, B and E doors are edged with hardwood edging while our Class D door has a steel channel edging.

Responding to the needs of the industryThe building industry has been plagued by a shortage of tall and wide fire doors that comply to the prescribed SANS 1253:2016 regulations. Fire doors that have not been legitimately tested to meet these regulations are being specified by architects.
Following ground-breaking tests as per the criteria set out in SANS 1253:2016, Allandel can now legitimately supply fire doors up to 2 400mm in height and up to 2 200mm in width. This is for class A, B, D and E fire doors which can be supplied as both double and single doors.
Classes A, B and E fire doors Besides meeting all the criteria set out by the regulations, what sets our doors apart is that there is no need for unsightly slam bars or T bars. This results in neat, flush and rebated meeting styles.
Class D fire doorsOur class D fire doors are supplied as steel clad with slam bars.
Certified identification tagsOur doors are supplied strictly in accordance of tested and approved specifications. This ensures that in the event of a fire, the fire door performs perfectly. Our identification tags are a guarantee that you are getting a certified top quality door that has been manufactured to strict standards of approval.
Timber framesAllandel has extended our range and we are now able to supply class A and E fire doors in timber frames. These frames have also successfully passed the stringent testing criteria set by the testing authorities. We can supply timber frames for fire doors up to 2 400mm high x 1 150mm wide in single door format. Should you require doors wider than this, we will supply steel frames.
Exceeding the SANS 1253:2016 criteria Allandel guarantees that our fire doors meet and exceed the SANS 1253:2016 criteria and are backed by valid test reports.
Tested and certifiedAllandel supplies top quality acoustic doors which are thoroughly tested for noise transmission. They come with a test certificate rating their insulation performance and signed off by a professional sound engineer.
Our acoustic doors provide a RW value of 37 dB, which is a high reduction of noise transmission. It is more than adequate for uses such as conference rooms or hotel rooms. Our doors were commended for performance at low frequencies and are appropriate for use in industrial environments.
Fire ratingsIn addition, our acoustic doors have fire ratings of up to 2 hours (120 minutes).
X-ray windows and sliding doorsWe supply custom made X-ray windows and sliding doors. Our doors are lead lined from edge to edge which ensures that there is no X-ray exposure.
Our specialised glazing offers excellent protection against gamma and X-rays. It is the transparent alternative to other shielding materials. The glazing is set into a carefully detailed lead lined frame.

Internal testing produces a world class productAllandel are committed to being the leaders in the supply and manufacture of fire doors and fire proofing. To continue offering high quality, reliable products and excellent service, we take pride in our research and development.
To ensure that our products not only pass the stringent test criteria at the testing authorities, but exceed the stipulated requirements, we rigorously test products internally before sending for testing. This way, we get to know the limitations of the materials and components that form an integral part of the fire compliance of our products. Ultimately, we are looking after the personal safety of those using our products.
Our commitment The integrity of our products is our top priority. It is our responsibility to ensure that our products are true to their tested prototypes and that any variation thereof is endorsed by the testing authorities.
You are therefore assured that when you specify an Allandel product, you have specified quality and integrity.

RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING
Fire doors are further tested by the SABS for complianceAllandel only submits doors for official testing once numerous tests have been carried out by ourselves.
This ensures that the tested prototype will meet the stringent SABS requirements. When submitting door assemblies for testing, we provide the full detailed description of the door core and manufacture composition. This ensures that our test reports reflect the actual core and make-up of our doors and frames.
Other manufacturers often refer to a “fire rated core” or “propriety core” which in our view does not define the actual tested core sufficiently. This obviously impacts on the integrity of what is supplied.
Once the tests are completed at the SABS, we inspect the doors and frames to gain a better insight into areas of strength and weakness. These observations, together with the written observations of the testing officials, form a vital part of our future tests so that we can always strive for even better results. We are not simply satisfied but continually raise our standards to supply doors that are the very best.
OFFICIAL SABS TESTING

Testing our doors at SABS. After 60 minutes and 120 minutes at 1 049 degrees C.
Testing at a SABS furnace in Pretoria. The door is subjected to extreme conditions to determine its effectiveness.
Allandel doors comply fully with SANS 1253:2016, and meet or exceed the test criteria. We remain committed to strictly adhere to the provisions of SANS 1253:2016 so as to provide our clients and the occupants of buildings with peace of mind. Their lives are protected when Allandel doors are in service.
We have obtained a test report confirming that the prototype tested complies fully with the following criteria set out in SANS 1253:2016:
1. Glazing:• Class A, B, E or F doors may have one glazed area
or viewing panel not exceeding 100mm x 300mm or a maximum of 200mm diameter.
• Viewing panels larger than the above must meet the minimum fire resistance periods provided (this is subject to SABS testing).
• Viewing panels are not permitted in Class C and D door assemblies.
NOTE: Allandel only use approved glazing that can withstand the criteria permitted for each Class and that conforms to the criteria set out under the relevant SANS codes.
2. Fastenings:• All fastenings shall be compatible with the type and class of door.
• Mortise locks are not to exceed 150mm in depth and 20mm in thickness.
• All fastenings to doors forming an escape route shall allow the doors to be easily opened in the direction of escape.
3. Closing device:• All fire doors shall be fitted with a closing device
compatible with the class and type of fire door.
• Closing devices that rely solely on retained liquid pressure for their closing action are not permitted for use on fire doors.
• Closing of double leaf doors with rebated meeting styles shall be equipped with co-ordinators.
4. Fit:• Single doors: Max 3mm gap between top of door
and frame and a maximum of 6mm gap over total width between door and frame.
• Double doors: Max 4mm between meeting styles. Max of 4mm over total width of leaves between door and frame.
• All doors: Min 5mm and Max 12mm gap between door and floor.
NOTE: Allandel door leaves are sized to suit the frame and when the frames are built in true / plumb, these tolerances will be achieved.
5. Marking: Each door assembly shall have metal identification plates fixed to each leaf and frame in a visible position, clearly displaying the following information:
• Manufacturer's name / trade name / trademark,
• unique identification number and date of manufacture and
• the class of door.
6. Tested prototype and variations from the prototype: Shall either be tested or approved / certified in writing by the testing authority to be acceptable. There should be no likelihood of it to jeopardise its fire resistance when placed in service.
7. Size:Doors may be made smaller than the tested prototype, however the thickness and clearances may not be altered.
The door width may be increased by 15% and the height by 10%, on condition that all other aspects of the door remain identical to that tested.

1. Flush 25mm deep rebated meeting style. This is typically specified in front-of-house type doors and on doors that require veneering and need to be visually appealing. Allandel are proud of our achievement in being able to offer this exclusively across our range, with the only exception being for Class D doors.
2. Galvanised mild steel slam bars. This is typically used in back-of-house type doors and in high traffic / heavy duty / service doors.
