Our new local council,
representing almost 340,000
residents, is looking after a
population slightly larger than
our nations capital Canberra.
And were in for some rapid
growth, with predictions that
Moreton Bay Region will be
home to just under half a
million people in less than
20 years.
Our new region, covering
2,011 square kilometres,
extends from Redcliffe and
Bribie Island in the east, to
Mount Mee and Mount
Uniting our communitiesGlorious in the west and
from Ferny Hills in the south to
Bellthorpe and Elimbah in
the north.
Thriving commercial hubs,
hinterland homes, country life,
beach culture and a touch of
history are all wrapped into
one exciting parcel.
Moreton Bay Regional Council
merges Caboolture Shire, Pine
Rivers Shire and Redcliffe
City councils and will use the
existing resources of all three
to provide important services.
Our goal is to create a
dynamic, thriving council
that serves the many sections
of our communities and helps
build the sense of pride in our
region.

Moreton Bay Regional Councils three districts arebased on the previous local authority areas.Where do I belong?
Its pretty easy to work out
your district, because it is the
same as your old council area.
If you are in division 1, 2, 3
or 12 of Moreton Bay
Regional Council you are
part ofCaboolture district.
Divisions 5 and 6 are part
ofRedcliffe district and
divisions 7, 8, 9 and 10 are
part ofPine Rivers district.
However, if you live in division
4 or 11, youll need to know
if you were previously part
of Caboolture Shire or Pine
Rivers Shire to determine if
youre now part of Caboolturedistrict or Pine Rivers district.
Your district will determine
which set of local laws,
planning schemes and
policies are applicable to you.
To nd out quickly, consult
our website at
www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
and click on our district
selector tool. It will ask you
for your address, and then
let you know in a jiffy which
district you are in.
2
If youre wondering how to
contact your new council, you
can still rely on the way you
contacted your old one.
To ensure service is as
streamlined and effective as
possible in the early stages
of the new council, the old
phone numbers and addresses
of Caboolture Shire Council,
Pine Rivers Shire Council and
Redcliffe City Council will become
phone numbers and
addresses for Moreton Bay
Regional Councils three
district ofces.
By calling your district ofce
youll be talking to staff in
your own area, who will know
how best to handle your
specic queries.
You can contact your own
district ofce by using the
following details:
Caboolture District Ofce
Ph: 5420 0100
Moreton Bay Regional Council
Caboolture Ofce
PO Box 159
Caboolture 4510
Pine Rivers District Ofce
Ph: 3480 6666

Strathpine 4500
Redcliffe District Ofce
Ph: 3283 0233
Moreton Bay Regional Council
Redcliffe Ofce
PO Box 66
Redcliffe 4020
While in many cases it will
be fastest if you direct your
queries and business to your
district ofce, there will be
times when you will want a
general phone number or
address for Moreton Bay
Regional Council. These are:
Moreton Bay Regional Council
Ph: 3205 0555
Moreton Bay Regional Council
PO Box 5070
Strathpine 4500
When you ring the general
number our customer service
staff will work out who will
be able to best help you and
transfer you. Items sent to the
general council mailbox will be
sorted and distributed to the
appropriate district ofces.

When the new council
opens, where will I go to
conduct council business?
For most services, it will be a
case of business as usual.
Most council staff will
continue to operate from
their existing ofces and
depots. This arrangement is
likely to continue for quite
some time. Existing phone
numbers will remain in place
and the customer service
desks in all three districts
will continue to operate toservice local communities.
What will happen to
my rates?
Council ofcers are working
with the State Government to
address rating issues for the
amalgamated council areas.
The newly-elected council will
be responsible for adopting a
rates policy that meets State
Government regulations by
30 June 2008.
What happens to any money
I owe council or any money
council owes me?
The new council will be
responsible for all debts and
amounts owing to former
councils. If you owe money
or are owed money, you will
simply deal with your district
ofce in the new council.
Will some major services,
such as rubbish collection,
change under the
new council?
Rubbish collection services
will remain the same, with
the same days for collections
and the same level of service
as residents have previously
experienced. Over time, somechanges to services will be
inevitable, particularly as new
contracts or arrangements
are put in place.
However, ensuring service
levels are maintained or
enhanced will be a major
goal of the new council.
Whats the story at
our libraries?
If you are an avid reader, then
the amalgamation is good
news for you.
Residents now have access to
the third largest public library
collection in Australia, which
covers an enormous selection
of books and other borrowablematerial including DVDs, CDs
and talking books.
Our libraries also host a range
of services, events, programs
and activities in their local
communities and details of
these can be found in the
events calendar in this edition
of Moreton Living.
If you are a member of your
local library you can borrowbooks from any of the other
libraries in our region by
making a request at your
local library.
For more information on our
library services, or to check
out the library catalogue
available, please visit our
special library website at:
library.moretonbay.qld.gov.au
I enjoy accessing the localcouncil services available
in my neighbourhood.
Will they continue?
It is expected the new council
will be keen to maintain
service levels across
the region.
How are differences
between former councils
regarding regulations and
services being addressed?
Since the announcement of
amalgamation, staff from
the three councils have been
working together to review all
aspects of council operations.
There are any number of
disparities in local government
service arrangements, local
laws and other regulations.
Council will continue its
journey towards consolidating
these areas and it will take
some time to develop new
procedures, laws
and regulations.
In the meantime, customers
are encouraged to continue
to deal with their district
ofces for the best and most
efcient service.
With the State Government
due to take over bulk
water assets, how are water
service issues
being handled?
Many issues associated with
the transfer of water assets
to the State Government arestill being negotiated.
The aim is to make the
transition as smooth as
possible with no impact
on the water supply to the
community.
While the water and
wastewater functions of the
three districts will be brought
together under the one water
directorate within the new
council, residents wont
notice many changes from
day one.
There will be changes made
to policies, budgets, fees and
charges, but they cannot
be made until the new
council is established
in ofce.
In time, fees, charges and
rebates will be consolidated,
and residents will be kept
informed as these changes
occur. Every effort is being
made to try and ensure that
these changes occur quickly
and simply but it will most
likely be after 1 July 2008.
What happens to existing
building applications and
development applications?
It is anticipated that
applications received by
a former council will be
processed according to the
former councils existing
procedures and plans.The
legislation governing building
applications hasnt changed.
Existing shire plans will
remain effective for their
geographic areas.
How will I lodge a new
building application with the
new council?
For the best levels of service,
you would submit building
applications through your
local district ofce.
What will happen to after-
hours services?
The after-hours services
previously operated by the
former councils will continue.
Is a new council
administration centre
being planned?
The new councils immediate
priority will be on the delivery
of day-to-day services ratherthan creating a new ofce
space.
Frequently Asked QuestionsThe name may have changed, but many of councils activities will remain the same.
Below, weve addressed some of the more common questions about our new council.
