Allama Iqbal Open University

• The Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May, 1974.At that time Its name was “People ‘s open university”

• It is also Asia's first Open University.

• The university offers extensive undergraduate, post-graduate, and doctoral studies programs in various academic disciplines

Vision and Mission Of University

Vision of the University states “to improve lives of people at individual and social level”.

Mission states “to provide facilities to student to become product able humans”.

Main Components

The main components of its teaching system are.

1. Correspondence package.2. Radio and Television broadcasts.3. Course assignments4. Correspondence tuition and face to face tutorial meetings5. Final examination at the end of the Semester.

Reason of Using Medium:

University uses these mediums becauseIt cannot rely on only one of these mediums to

communicate

Problems

AIOU has one of best distant learning system but still issues

are inevitable.

Difficult for students from backward areas to communicate.

Post office sometime does not deliver important documents

on time.

Courier services are not available in some areas.

Internet connection problem is another major issue.

Students who are not able to come to university send their

relatives to solve their issues.

Students have misunderstanding regarding admission process

and other rules.

Feedbacks

• Mobile SMS service to give quick updates.

• Staff should be trained to communicate with the relatives of the

students. More information desks should be established all over

the country.

• Information material should be in different language student.

• Procedures and rules in prospectus should be easy to understand for student.

• Serious issues between employees and students are discussed in the board meeting of executives.

• Extra curriculum activities should be promoted to increase the popularity.

Conclusion

• In AIOU Where distance learning is a most unforgettable factor,

the Success and growth of University, relationships between

faculty members, between the students and his tutor are all

largely depended on the Communication.

• AIOU plays a vital role and have greater relevance and

acceptance in Pakistan due to the factors of poverty and relative

deprivation of women.

• Development of the literacy rate in Pakistan.

• Cost-effective policy to provide higher education at a minimum

cost.

• Through the systematic and effective way of communication,

AIOU provide to education people that live anywhere in the

country which leads to the progress and prosperity of the

Country.
