The reason why we cherish the gospel is because we believe in what is called TOTAL DEPRAVITY. We believe that

unless God grabs us, we would never grab God. We believe that unless God gifts us, we would never earn Him. We

believe that unless and until God loves us first, we would never reciprocate with love for Him.

As noted, total depravity does not mean we are as bad as we could be only that we will never be as good as we need

to be. Fundamentally, the issue isn’t in the horizontal. The issue is in the vertical and in the vertical we are

condemned. The horizontal only shows what is already true.
