Warwick senior midfielder

and Syracuse recruit Alyssa

Manley finished her scholastic career with 12

goals and 32 as-sists, including

7 goals and 20 assists this year

while leading the Warriors

to their record 11th L-L League

Tournament title. “Alyssa

truly loves play-ing the game,’’

Warwick coach Bob Derr said.

“Alyssa is a great leader. She is not the

outspoken one, but she leads

by example. All her teammates

have to do is just watch her

practice and play. What you

see in a game is exactly what

you see in practice.”

LAUREN STAUFFERUndefeated in singles in the Lancaster-Lebanon League regular season, going 7-0, Lauren Stauffer, left, led Manheim Township to its second consecutive championship in the L-L team playoffs. She also fronted the Blue Streaks’ successful defense of their District Three Class AAA team title. Stauffer placed second in the L-L Class AAA Flight One Singles tournament, and paired with Abby Belser to win the Class AAA Flight One Doubles title. It was Stauffer’s fourth straight L-L Doubles title and she and Belser went on to win the District Three Class AAA Doubles title, Stauffer’s third District Doubles crown. Stauffer and Belser were 17-1 in doubles play, advancing to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class AAA tournament.

MACKENZIE SMITHAccumulating a 9-0 record in league play, Mackenzie Smith led Hemp-field to the championship match of the Lancaster-Lebanon League team playoffs, as well as the District Three Class AAA team tournament. Individually, Smith successfully defended her L-L Class AAA Flight One Singles title before placing second in the District Three Class AAA tournament, an improvement over 2010’s third-place finish.

SUSAN WASAKOSKI, Donegal

Coaching Donegal to its first-ever section title earned Susan Wasakoski Lancaster-Lebanon League Coach-of-the-Year honors. In Wasakoski’s 20th year the Tribe recorded a perfect 11-0 Section Two season and advanced to the L-L team semifinals, finishing 12-2 overall. A crucial 4-3, late-season victory over Lampeter-Strasburg not only opened the path to the section title, it also marked Wasakoski’s 100th career win.

JULIA CASSELBURY

Easily the player of the first decade of this century, Julia Casselbury, above, left an indelible mark on local tennis. She capped her scholastic career this season by winning her third consecutive PIAA Class AA State Singles championship. She also finished a career sweep of the Lancaster-Lebanon League Class AA Flight One Singles and District Three Class AA Singles titles and was undefeated in singles over her three years. Most impressively, she lost just one set in her high school career, the first set of the 2009 District Three finals, to Wyomissing’s Audrey Ann Blakely, who would place second to Casselbury three times in districts and once in states.

MADELYN SHAAK

For the third straight year, Madelyn Shaak, right, placed second to Julia Casselbury in the Lancaster-Lebanon League Class AA Flight One Singles tournament. She went on to place fourth in the District Three Class AA Singles tournament, then concentrated on doubles with partner Kristi Fidler. Teaming to go 48-10 over the course of the season, they won the L-L Class AA Flight One title and rallied to claim the District Three AA title before ultimately placing fourth in the PIAA AA tournament.

Football Coach of the Year

MIKE WILLIAMS, Manheim Central

Mike Williams has enjoyed a long and successful coaching career at Manheim Central. Yet in the wake of an offseason tragedy that took the lives of four of his players, the 318-game winner and 2003 state champion turned in one of the finest coaching performances in his 31 years with the Barons. Williams and his coaching staff guided a young and underdog squad to the District Three playoffs following an 8-2 regular-season finish, their two losses coming to eventual section champions and district finalists Wilson and Lampeter-Strasburg.

The Crusaders’ perennial all-star was named L-L Section Three’s 2011 Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Year as well as the section’s Outstanding Lineman. Powered in part by the 6-foot-5, 285-pound senior, Lancaster Catholic rode one of the most prolific offenses in L-L history to its seventh straight section title and third District Three Class AA title in four years. Through 14 games, the Crusaders rolled up 628 points (44.7 ppg.) and 6,077 yards (434.1 avg.). DePietro, left, helped clear a path for a ground game featuring a pair of backs — Brandon Hollister and Roman Clay — who became the first tandem to rush for more than 1,000 yards apiece in consecutive seasons. On defense, DePietro helped front a unit that surrendered just 189 points (13.5 ppg).

The emergence of Hempfield’s new hitters, like Brittany McMullen

and Anna Wenger, meant that there were fewer

sets per player. Morgan Lowe may have seen

her hitting opportunities diminish but her around

play did not. She still managed 433 kills while hitting 33.1 percent, up from last season’s 27.7

percent. As strong as she was at the net, she may have been even better playing the back row,

where she amassed 309 digs. At Hempfield, Lowe

was Ms. Versatility.

PAT SHAWARYN, Hempfield

In his third season at the Black Knights’ helm, Shawaryn led defending state champion Hempfield back into the PIAA championship match. This, after the team claimed the Lancaster-Lebanon League and District Three Class AAA titles. Shawaryn was voted to this honor for the third straight season in voting by fellow coaches. In his three seasons as head coach,

Hempfield has yet to lose to an L-L League team.
