Head Coach - Rob Davis, BarnegatThe only coach in Barnegat’s six-year program history, Davis led the Bengals to new

heights in 2011. Barnegat won a school-record seven games and captured the Class BSouth title for its first division championship in program history. This is his first timeserving as the head coach for Ocean County in the Gridiron Classic.

For the second straight season, the Bengals also advanced to the NJSIAA South JerseyGroup II semifinals. They hosted their first home playoff game in program history,picking up a 35-31 win over Point Boro before falling to eventual sectionalchampion West Deptford in the semifinals. Davis has a career record of 30-32and has led Barnegat to three state playoff appearances in six seasons,including one in their inaugural year in 2006. Barnegat won its first stateplayoff game in 2010, when it beat Lower Cape May 29-28.

Davis is also a former participant in the U.S. Army All-ShoreGridiron Classic, as he played for the victorious Ocean Countysquad in the 1989 game after completing his career as a widereceiver at Southern Regional. He went on to play widereceiver at William Paterson, graduating in 1994. He beganhis coaching career at his alma mater, working on the staff atSouthern for three seasons and then serving as an assistant atLacey for six seasons before taking over the new program atBarnegat.

Head Coach - Ed Gurrieri, ManalapanGurrieri led Manalapan to its best season in program history in 2011, as the Braves won a school-

record 10 games and advanced to their second Central Jersey Group IV final in school history andtheir first since 2003. The Braves also won the outright Class A North title for the second straight season, marking the

first time in school history they have won consecutive outright division championships. In twostints as Manalapan’s head coach from 2004-06 and from 2010 to the present, Gurrieri has a careerrecord of 37-17. The Braves also had a school-record 10-game winning streak underGurrieri in 2011, and they have made four state playoff appearances in his five seasons. Manalapan also made Shore Conference history this past fall by producing a 2,000-

yard rusher for the second straight season, as senior John Sieczkowski followedcurrent Wagner running back Josh Firkser in achieving the mark. Before taking over as head coach, Gurrieri was an assistant at Manalapan from

1997-2003, coaching linebackers and running backs and also serving a stint asthe offensive coordinator. Prior to arriving at Manalapan, he was the offensivecoordinator at Staten Island powerhouse Susan E. Wagner High School from1989-1996. During that time, Wagner went undefeated three times, and in 1992was named No. 1 in New York State and finished ranked No. 17 in the nation by USA Today. Gurrieri is a 1978 graduate of Wagner High School, where he played linebacker. He then

played at Northeastern University before transferring to finish his career at Wagner Collegein Staten Island, graduating in 1983. He began his coaching career at his alma mater,Wagner High School, serving as offensive coordinator in 1983-84 before coaching runningbacks at his collegiate alma mater, Wagner College, from 1985-87.

The only headcoach in Lacey’sprogram history,Lou Vircillo hascarved out animpressive legacyin making theLions into aperennial ShoreConferencepower.

Vircillo is currently third all-time in ShoreConference history and in the top 25 in NewJersey history with 248 victories, boasting acareer record of 248-112-3, including 214-96-3since he started the Lacey program in 1981. He isone of three active Shore Conference coacheswith more than 200 career wins and is 16 victoriesaway from passing late Manasquan andMiddletown North legend Vic Kubu for thesecond-most wins in Shore history behind Brickluminary Warren Wolf.

During his time at Lacey, Vircillo has led theLions to four NJSIAA South Jersey Group IIIchampionships, including three undefeatedseasons, with teams known for smashmouthrunning attacks and hard-nosed defense. His fourstate titles rank third among active ShoreConference head coaches behind fellow Hall ofFame inductee Mike Ciccotelli of Keyport (6) andone of Ciccotelli’s former players, MiddletownSouth head coach Steve Antonucci (5). Laceywent 11-0 in 1989 to win its second straight statechampionship, and it finished 12-0 in 2006 and2010.

Vircillo also has led the Lions to 12 ShoreConference division titles, including six straightClass B South crowns from 1988-1993. He ranksfourth in Shore Conference history amongcoaches in total titles between division and statechampionships. His teams have made 20 stateplayoff appearances, including 17 during histenure at Lacey. In 2008, he was inducted into theNew Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall ofFame.

Vircillo played at Tarkio College in Missouri,graduating in 1969 and then working as anassistant in the football program until 1972. Hebegan his high school coaching career as anassistant at Red Bank Catholic from 1972-74. Hefollowed that by serving as the offensivecoordinator at Red Bank Regional on thelegendary unbeaten state championship team of1975 before becoming the Bucs’ head coach from1976-80. He led Red Bank to a pair of divisiontitles and three state playoff appearances beforebecoming the inaugural head coach at Lacey in1981.

“Coach Lou’’ has also been an instrumentalfigure as a trustee and one of the founders of theShore Football Coaches Foundation, which runsthe U.S. Army All-Shore Gridiron Classic and putson a yearly Academic All-Shore breakfast forShore Conference players. He also has threevictories as a head coach of the Ocean Countysquad in the Gridiron Classic, including a 6-3

victory in last year’s game thatput him second all time in Classichistory behind Wolf, who has five.

Vircillo lives in Lacey with hiswife, Lorraine, and has fourchildren, all of whom areLacey graduates.

Mike CiccotelliThe longest-tenured

active coach in the ShoreConference, Keyport’s MikeCiccotelli has led the Red Raidersto six NJSIAA Central Jersey Group Ititles, which is tied for the second-most of anyhead coach in conference history. He is one ofthree active Shore Conference coaches with morethan 200 career victories and one of only six inconference history.

Since taking over at Keyport in 1978, Ciccotellihas compiled a career record of 220-122-3,leading Keyport to Central Jersey Group Ichampionships in 1987, 1988, 1992, 1998, 1999,and 2002. He also has led the Red Raiders to 12Shore Conference division titles, including threestraight from 1987-89. His teams have made 15state playoff appearances and he has a careerplayoff record of 21-10.

With teams known for their punishing DelawareWing-T running attack and physical defense,Ciccotelli led the Red Raiders to a school single-season record 11 wins in 1999, 2002 and 2003,including an 11-0 season in 2002. Ciccotelli hasalso twice served as the Monmouth County headcoach in the Gridiron Classic, winning both times.

He was an All-County running back/defensiveback at A.L. Johnson High School, graduating in1969 and moving on to be a four-year starter andearning all-conference honors at defensive backat Trenton State College, which is now TheCollege of New Jersey. He took a teaching job atKeyport right out of college and has remainedthere ever since, retiring from teaching in 2011but staying on as the head football coach.

Ciccotelli is also part of a successful family ofhigh school football coaches. His younger brotherMark is currently the head coach at Neptune andhas won three NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IIItitles in his career between two at Freehold andone in his first season at Neptune. His brotherSteve was also the head coach at Scotch Plains-Fanwood in North Jersey for 20 seasons and ledthe Raiders to a state final in 2003.

Ciccotelli has lived in Clark in Union County withhis wife, Valerie, for the past 54 years and hasthree daughters and two grandchildren.

Kevin WilliamsA long-time supporter of Shore Conferencefootball and an award-winning radio broadcaster,Kevin Williams is currently in his 33rd year atWOBM radio and is the director of quality control

at WOBM and director of theShore Sports Network.

Williams is a nine-time winner ofthe New Jersey Sportscaster of theYear Award given by the NationalSportscasters and SportswritersAssociation. His popular dailycommentary “The Hometown View”has been honored four times by theNew Jersey Broadcasters Associationfor “Best Public Service” and airs

weekday mornings on both92.7FM/1160AM.

Kevin is in charge of the award-winning team thatbroadcasts live Shore Conference football andbasketball games on the Shore Sports Network,which is made up of WOBM AM 1160/1310 and105.7 “The Hawk.” As part of that he also co-hosts a Thursday Night High School FootballShow in the fall and broadcasts morning sportsreports on New Jersey 101.5 and 97.3 ESPN-FM.Those radio broadcasts have become part of thefabric of football season for Shore Conferencegridiron fans, players and coaches for threedecades.

A member of the Central Regional Athletic Hall ofFame, the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame andthe Region VI Wrestling Hall of Fame, he has alsoreceived the Ocean County College DistinguishedAlumni Award and was given an honoree degreefrom OCC. He has been honored by numerousorganizations for his charitable efforts andprofessional accomplishments, including theOcean County Girl Scouts, Lions ClubInternational and the Caregiver Volunteers ofCentral Jersey. Kevin is a past Chairman of theToms River-Ocean County Chamber ofCommerce and is involved in the Toms RiverStudent Loan Fund, Big Brothers Big Sisters ofOcean County, and Beachwood Soccer Club andhas helped out with the Beachwood MunicipalAlliance.

His wife Jane is a guidance counselor atManchester Township High School and they havetwo children. Brandon, 26, works for a publicrelations firm in New York and Alexandra, 20, is ajunior at Penn State University.

1979 - Monmouth 7, Ocean 6Highlights: Neptune’s Bob Lubischer hit Howell’s Vinnie Zambetti with a 35-yard touchdownpass in the second quarter, and Monmouth held on as Ocean scored with 15 seconds left inthe game but failed on a two-point conversion attempt.

1980 - Ocean 15, Monmouth 10Highlights: Southern’s Cliff Walters scored on a 2-yard run and threw a 45-yard touchdownpass to Toms River North’s Cal Cassidy to put Ocean back in control of the series, 2-1.

1981 - Monmouth 22, Ocean 16Highlights: Monmouth wiped out a 9-0 deficit behind 147 yards rushing on 21 carries byAsbury Park’s Doug Johnson, including a 25-yard touchdown run. Howell’s Randy Radeckithrew a 45-yard scoring pass to Manasquan’s Tony Fleming near the end of the first half.

1982 - Ocean 17, Monmouth 16Highlights: Toms River South’s Tom Forrester threw touchdown passes to teammate BrianBienkowski and Point Boro’s Carlo Colombino, and Toms River South’s Jeff Lawton booted a35-yard field goal to help Ocean hold off Monmouth. In the loss, Manasquan’s Everett Morgannailed a 35-yard field goal and was just short on a potentially game-winning 45-yard attemptas time expired.

1983 - Monmouth 19, Ocean 0Highlights: Middletown North running back Chris Barnes scored two touchdowns, Wall’s ArtPetracco ran for 120 yards and a touchdown, and Long Branch defensive lineman KeithFarrow led a Monmouth defense that earned the first shutout in Classic history by limitingOcean to just 37 yards rushing.

1984 - Ocean 7, Monmouth 0Highlights: Monsignor Donovan’s Rob Gould scored on a 3-yard run with 6:10 left in the gameas Ocean earned its first shutout victory in the series.

1985 - Monmouth 14, Ocean 12Highlights: Monmouth built a 14-0 lead and held on for the win on the strength of the runningof Matawan’s Terry Underwood and the passing of Rumson-Fair Haven’s Pete Graham.Southern’s Mike Grant threw for 225 yards in the loss for Ocean.

1986 - Monmouth 22, Ocean 9Highlights: Behind a Classic-record 161 yards rushing by Freehold’s Joe “The Jet’’ Hendersonthat included touchdown runs of 44 and 63 yards, Monmouth took a 5-4 lead in the seriesand became the first team to win back-to-back games.

1987 - Ocean 22, Monmouth 20Highlights: The Jackson Memorial combination of quarterback Tom Tarver and tight endSteve Carr clicked on a 10-yard scoring pass with three seconds left in regulation for thegame-winning touchdown to even series at five apiece.

1988 - Monmouth 28, Ocean 7Highlights: Freehold Township quarterback Brian Gilbert triggered a 21-point third quarterwith a five-yard touchdown run that was followed by an 85-yard interception return for atouchdown by Matawan’s Eric Bellamy to help Monmouth roll to the win.

1989 - Ocean 23, Monmouth 18Highlights: Brick’s Todd Durkin threw touchdown passes to Lacey’s Carl Tarricone and TomsRiver South’s Chip LaBarca Jr. to help even the series at six. LaBarca finished with sixcatches for 119 yards in the win, and St. John Vianney’s Gil Gutierrez kicked a Classic-record52-yard field goal.

1990 - Ocean 22, Monmouth 21Highlights: Brick kicker Kurt Weiboldt tied Gutierrez’s record with a 52-yard field goal andkicked a Classic-record three field goals in the win, including the game-winner from 28yards with no time remaining to give Ocean its first two-game winning streak in the series.Lacey running back Keith Elias added 147 yards rushing and a touchdown catch.

1991 - Monmouth 15, Ocean 14Highlights: A 10-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter from Neptune’s BrucePugh and a two-point conversion run by Ocean Township’s Doug Rossback putMonmouth over the top.

1992 - Monmouth 20, Ocean 0

Highlights: Middletown North quarterback Mike Hallard ran for an 11-yard touchdown andthrew a 19-yard touchdown pass to James Stanton to help Monmouth roll to the win.Monmouth defensive tackle Ty Watkins and end Choppy Taylor led a defense that limitedOcean to a Classic-record minus-20 yards rushing.

1993 - Ocean 20, Monmouth 18

Highlights: Toms River South’s Chris Pagano blocked a 50-yard field goal attempt byMonmouth on the final play of the game as Ocean evened the series at eight apiece.Toms River East quarterback Alex Zarrillo had three second-half touchdown passes, twoto Mike Citta.

1994 - Monmouth 36, Ocean 0

Highlights: Ocean Township’s Eddie Conti fired touchdown passes to Middletown South’sMatt Cuccia and Holmdel’s Brian Carpenito during a 29-point first half in the most lop-sidedwin in Classic history. Cuccia finished with six catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

1995 - Monmouth 16, Ocean 9

Highlights: Matawan’s Charlie Rogers ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, MiddletownSouth’s Jeff Martin added a touchdown and Raritan’s Frank Aresta kicked a 46-yard fieldgoal as Monmouth opened up a 16-0 lead in the fourth quarter.

1996 - Ocean 10, Monmouth 3

Highlights: Toms River North quarterback Ron Sermarini threw an 8-yard touchdown pass toPoint Beach’s Dan Frangione in the first quarter en route to breaking Monmouth’s two-gamewinning streak. Interceptions by Lakewood’s Greg Porzio and Toms River North’s Doc Rosehelped stop Monmouth’s attack.

1997 - Ocean 15, Monmouth 13

Highlights: Second-half touchdowns by Brick’s Will Bell and Demetrius Dunn overcame a 7-0halftime deficit to help Ocean tie the series at 10-10.

1998 - Monmouth 27, Ocean 13Highlights: Red Bank running back Eric McCoo rushed for 105 yards and scored a Classic-record three touchdowns, one on a 60-yard punt return, to lift Monmouth to an 11-10advantage in the series. Brick Memorial’s Shawn Murray had a Classic-record 98-yardinterception return for a touchdown in the loss for Ocean.

1999 - Monmouth 21, Ocean 20Highlights: Marlboro defensive lineman Dan Klecko blocked an extra-point attempt with 27seconds left in the game to give Monmouth the win after Ocean had scored on a touchdownpass by Toms River South’s Bill Rankin to teammate Torey Morris.

Freehold quarterback Nick Tyson threw for a game-high 116yards, including a 36-yard touchdown pass to Freehold teammate Brandon Brown, who hadsix catches for 78 yards. Middletown North's Dylan Maresca added a 25-yard field goal forMonmouth. Chris Castronuova, the first Jackson Liberty player to ever participate in theClassic, had a 20-yard touchdown catch in the loss for Ocean. Lacey's Justin Pandorf alsohad a 6-yard touchdown run for Ocean.

2010 - Monmouth 12, Ocean 10Highlights: A 42-yard touchdown pass from St. John Vianney’s Joe Carlucci to Long Branchwide receiver Ezra Kelly midway through the fourth quarter gave Monmouth County acomeback victory. Howell wideout Phil Adamo added a 14-yard touchdown catch fromteammate Jimmy Ryan in the first quarter that was set up by a forced fumble by MiddletownSouth defensive end Nick Bricker. Toms River South’s Rob Whitfield had an 83-yard kickoffreturn that set up a touchdown run by Toms River East’s Nico Steriti in the loss. Laceydefensive lineman Mike Stuppiello added three tackles for a loss and a sack for Ocean.

2011 - Ocean 6, Monmouth 3Highlights: A 22-yard field goal by Lacey’s Jarrod Molzon snapped a 3-3 tie with 7:39 left inthe game to send Ocean County to victory in the lowest-scoring Gridiron Classic since 2001.Lacey head coach Lou Vircillo picked up his third win as a head coach in the Gridiron Classic,second behind only fellow Hall of Famer Warren Wolf. Ocean’s defense held Monmouth to105 total yards, and Lacey linebacker Brian Mykoliw had an interception that set up Molzon’swinning field goal. Toms River East punter Joey Clarizio was named Ocean’s defensive MVP,while Lacey quarterback Craig Cicardo earned offensive MVP honors. Keyport defensivetackle Greg Velasco won the defensive MVP for Monmouth, and Rumson-Fair Havenquarterback Mike Villapiano was named offensive MVP.
