HYMNS OF THE DAY Following the Small Entrance

Troparion for the Resurrection (Tone 4): Having learned the joyful message of the

Resurrection from the angel, the women disciples of the Lord cast from them their parental

condemnation. And proudly broke the news to the disciples, saying: “Death hath been spoiled!

Christ God is risen, granting the world great mercy!”

Troparion to St. Michael (Tone 4): Supreme Commander of the Hosts of the Heavens, we,

the unworthy, importune and beseech thee that by thy supplications thou encircle us in the shelter

of the wings of thine immaterial glory, guarding us who now fall down and cry to thee with fervor:

Deliver us from dangers of all kinds, as the great Marshal of the heavenly hosts on high.

Kontakion for the Nativity of the Theotokos (Tone 4): By thy holy nativity, O pure one,

Joachim and Anna were delivered from the reproach of barrenness; and Adam and Eve were

delivered from the corruption of death; thy people do celebrate it, having been saved from the

stain of iniquity, crying unto thee: “The barren doth give birth to the Theotokos, who nourishes

our life!”

Troparion of All Saints (Tone 4): Adorned in the blood of Thy martyrs, throughout all the

world as in purple and fine linen, Thy Church through them doth cry unto Thee, O Christ God:

Send down Thy compassion upon Thy people; grant peace to Thy habitation and great mercy to

our souls.

THE EPISTLE

For the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost

O Lord, how marvelous are Thy works. In wisdom hast Thou made them all. Bless the Lord, O

my soul!

The Reading from the First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians (16:13-24)

Brethren, be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, and be strong. Let all that you do

be done in love. Now, brethren, you know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts

in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints; I urge you to be subject

to such men and to every fellow worker and laborer. I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and

Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have made up for your absence; for they refreshed my

spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such men. The churches of Asia send greetings. Aquila

and Prisca, together with the church in their house, send you hearty greetings in the Lord. All the

brethren send greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss. I, Paul, write this greeting with my

own hand. If anyone has no love for the Lord, let him be accursed. Our Lord, come! The grace

of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.

THE GOSPEL

For the Thirteenth Sunday of Matthew

The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew (21:33-42)

The Lord spoke this parable: “There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge

around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into

another country. When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get

his fruit; and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again

he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. Afterward he sent his

son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to

themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ And they took him

and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. When therefore the owner of the vineyard

comes, what will he do to those tenants?” They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a

miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their

seasons.” Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The very stone which the

builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous

in our eyes?’”

A note from the Kishlers: Many thanks to all of you for welcoming us back to the All Saints community with your prayers, kind words, support, meals, and hospitality. We are happy that our good Lord and the Antiochian Archdiocese have decided to bring us back home, and we look forward to serving you and worshipping with you for many years to come!

Congratulations to Paul and Elizabeth K. at the baptism last week of their daughter Grace Margaret. May God grant her many years!

Thank you to Simon W. and our entire teen group (and a few adults), for all the painting and cleaning last weekend! They spent Sunday afternoon painting in the parish house, and polishing the brass items in the church.

Elevation of the Holy Cross: We will celebrate Divine Liturgy on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10am and Sunday, Sept. 13 at 9:30. Our ladies’ president JoAnne T. requests that we bring basil plants to church on Saturday and Sunday before the Holy Liturgy.

COVID precautions at All Saints: To help minimize our gathering sizes and to provide a smaller setting for those who are “at-risk” or otherwise uncomfortable with larger gatherings, Fr. Andrew will normally be offering two Divine Liturgies each weekend (unless otherwise noted), Saturday and Sunday mornings, and Vespers on Saturday evenings. Saturday’s Liturgy will usually be restricted to 30-40 people by appointment.

We are also cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces and high-traffic areas between services, Father is sanitizing the communion spoon between families, and Father and other altar servers will be wearing masks at certain points during the service when distancing is not possible.

Please do your best to maintain six-foot distancing between non-family members, and note that the wearing of face-coverings is strongly encouraged by our Antiochian Archdiocese. This is true for all liturgical services, meetings, coffee hours, and other events. Overflow seating is available

downstairs if distancing becomes impossible. There is a speaker system downstairs so you can still hear the Liturgy.

And please, if you have any COVID-related symptoms stay home. Please feel free to reach out to either Fr. Andrew or Fr. Patrick if you desire to receive any sacraments privately throughout the week, particularly those who are ill, elderly, at-risk, or otherwise unable to attend the weekend services.

Many thanks for your patience, understanding, and prayers during these strange times. As the world around us seems more confused, fearful, and chaotic than ever, we need Christ’s Holy Church and everything she offers all the more! At Metropolitan Joseph’s insistence, we will continue to offer prayers, services, and sacraments, although with necessary precautions. Please pray for the mission of the Church, for good health, for an end to the virus and the lockdowns, and for peace and reconciliation in the midst of social unrest.

:: St. Andrew of Crete :: On the Nativity of the Theotokos – September 8

“The present Feast is for us the

beginning of feasts. Serving as

boundary to the law and to

prototypes, at the same time it

serves as a doorway to grace and

truth. “For Christ is the end of the

law” (Rom. 10:4), who, having

freed us from the letter (of the law),

raises us to spirit.

“Here is the end (to the law): in that the Lawgiver, having made everything, has changed the letter in spirit and gathers everything in

Himself (Eph. 1:10), enlivening the law with grace: grace has taken the law under its dominion, and the law has become subjected to grace, so that the properties of the law not suffer reciprocal commingling, but only so that by Divine power, the servile and subservient (in the law) are transformed into the light and free (in grace), so that we are not in bondage to the elements of the world (Gal. 4:3) and not in a condition under the slavish yoke of the letter of the law. Here is the summit of Christ's beneficence towards us! Here are the mysteries of revelation! Here is the theosis assumed upon humankind, the fruition worked out by the God-Man.

“The radiant and bright descent of God for people ought to have a joyous basis, opening

to us the great gift of salvation. Such also is the present feast day, having as its basis the

Nativity of the Theotokos, and as its purpose and end, the uniting of the Word with flesh,

this most glorious of all miracles, unceasingly proclaimed, immeasurable and

incomprehensible.”
