Answer: A block is traditionally a letter sewn onto a high school varsity jacket to show that owner’s achievements. The letter depends on the school — G for Giannini, L for Lowell, etc. Question: How can I earn one? Answer: If you earn up enough “Block G Points,” you earn one. A Helping Hand: Summer Edition

The Jaguar ComicBy Connor Nakamura

Daredevil is in full swing on Netflix now, and all the episodes were released on April 10. Netflix has a weird splurge schedule, releasing all their episodes at one time, making it an unusual method for releas-ing a TV series. However, I have now finished the series, and am able to rate it.

Daredevil is widely based on Frank Miller’s famous run on the story, the darker grittier take on the classic red-clothed hero. It is mostly about the criminal empire that Wilson Fisk, whose alias is that of an employer, had built up and its relations with the Russian mob, the Japanese, and the Chinese heroin trade. Many of these characters are original, so you don’t have to be a seasoned comic veteran to understand the concept of the story.

The show I would most compare Daredevil to is Arrow, another show with a less-than happy-atmosphere. Both of these shows are located in bad neighborhoods with drugs, poverty, and other topics not often discussed in superhero media. For instance, crimefighters like Superman or Spider-man rarely travel into the slums because their comics are targeted toward younger audiences. Daredevil pos-sesses a more adult tone and is a mature show.

Daredevil was by far, one of my favorite shows in the superhero TV industry along with The Flash. If your type of TV shows is gritty crime dramas, this is the show for you. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars-a great superhero series for veterans. However, while the series as a whole was pretty good, there are a few episodes that are a little boring therefore, not earning the full five stars.

Age of Ultron Review (non spoiler)By: Connor Nakamura

I believe that Age of Ultron was a fine sequel to the first Avengers movie, introducing a much harder enemy to defeat. The movie starts out in action, and shows a full Avengers team invading a Hydra base containing the twins (in the comics Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver). After this battle, Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) gains the “mind gem,” which has almost unlimited powers. He uses this gem to create Ultron, an artificial intelligence robot.

This leads to Ultron rebelling against Tony and the main battle begins. The remaining 1.5 hours of the movie are fighting. The Avengers gain several new allies including the “twins”, an intelligent android, and War Machine. This leads to the end of the movie and a relatively mysterious end credit scene.

Age of Ultron started out really interesting, with lots of mystery surrounding Hydra’s intentions with these twins. Then the fighting began, and the movie became relatively boring with repeated scenes and cliches. I believe the first movie suffered from too little fighting, but the second suffered from too little story/character development and way too much fighting. Also, I noticed that some of Thor and Cap’s combo moves were repetitive and boring. All in all, it was an enjoyable movie, but contained a few flaws. I would rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Dear Helping Hand,This summer I have nothing planned! Everyone is all excited about all their fun activities they’re doing. I’m going to be SO booorrred! What do I do? Do you have any fun things to do?-Bored

Dear Bored,Summer is a long fun break that can be quite boring at times. An idea we have is to be a tourist in your own city. So many people travel very far just to come to San Francisco. Go to the Golden Gate Bridge and Ghirardelli Square. Another idea is to go to a cool museum, San Francisco has so many cool museums such as Exploratorium and Academy of Sciences. Also just go outside! Take a walk in a park, go to the beach or have a picnic. If it’s a cold day and you want to stay at home, there are also some cool activi-ties to do. Such as bake, draw, read, write or look up some DIY’s on youtube or learn something you’ve al-ways wanted to learn like the guitar. You don’t have to leave San Francisco to have a great summer!-Helping Hand

Dear Helping Hand,I REALLY want to go camping with my friends and their families for a week this summer in Yosemite. They even invited me! How do I convince my parents

to let me go?-Unhappy Camper

Dear Unhappy Camper,Camping is a very fun thing to do especially with friends. The number one rule is to not throw a fit if they say no. That will make you seem irresponsible and immature and NOT ready to go camping without your parents. Instead, try and help out around the house before AND after asking. This will show that you are responsible and ready to go camping! -Helping Hand

Dear Helping Hand,I’m going to this one summer camp, but nobody I know is going. Have any advice?Lonely

Dear Lonely,You should just try to make friends. Find people that you have stuff in common with. I’m sure you will find at least one person who you have at least one thing in common with. If everybody is too shy then step up , and start talking to them, and by the end you are sure to have made at least one new friend if not more. (If you parents are ok with it you can ex-change emails or phone numbers and keep in touch).- Helping Hand

Now, we all know about extinct and endan-gered. But there are other classifications too, like extinct in the wild, critically endangered, vulnerable, near threatened, least concern, data deficient, and not evaluated. Now we all know that pandas and the like are endangered. But if they’re only endangered, then what’s critically endangered? Well, for a start, Amur leopards and Darwin’s foxes are. Both of these animals are really cute and get only a small amount of attention.

The reason they don’t get as much attention as, say, pandas, is something called charismatic megafauna. According to Wikipedia, charis-matic megafauna are “large animal species with widespread popular appeal that environmental activists use to achieve environmentalist goals.”

Which would be fine, but it doesn’t help other animals. Worrying about pandas won’t help any animal but pandas.

So what can we do about it? Well, you can help animals besides pandas. Places like World Wildlife Fund help animals besides charismatic megafauna animals that really need help. It’s not that hard to donate ten bucks to Darwin’s foxes or Amur leopards instead of pandas or elephants. Charismatic megafauna probably helped in the beginning, when no one was that worried about the environment, but now things are different and people actually worry about the environment. Since we can’t bring back extinct animals, I guess the only thing to do is to help other animal species and wish that charismatic megafauna had started sooner and ends soon.

Meet our blind dates, and Please Ad-here to the Rules: Make sure to Pay Entry to some of these activities (and bring extra for more fun)! Proper clothes (don’t wear a ballgown to go swimming).Academy of Sciences Think back to elementary school - this is just like the classic field trip to the museum. “It wasn’t the best and it wasn’t the worst. I’m fine with it.”

Beach WalkWhat could be more fun than splashing in the waves and running bare-foot across the sand? Being so close to Giannini, it’s efficient in travel time!

Bowling (Yerba Buena Bowl and Presidio)This is for the bowling enthusiasts, no explanations necessary.

Exploratorium You take the bus to the Exploratorium. You just walk around the museum for about two hours!

Giants Game! You bus to AT&T Park and you watch a Giants Game. You come back to school later than 3:25 p/m.

House of AirFeel lucky if you got into this activity, because it’s the most popular of them all. Only 70 out of the hundreds that signed up got in. Travel by bus.

Ice SkatingYerba Buena can’t be bad, so just remember to wear skate-ready clothes and be ready to fall down fifty thousand times. This will happen unless you’re a pro, which would mean you should not gloat to the friends who will fall down fifty thousand times.“The food is overpriced, but their hot cocoa was good after skating. I did go home sore after falling so many times.”

JapantownYou bring your Clipper Card or bus fee and bus to Japantown. You’re al-lowed to free-roam! “It was really fun…. FOOD BRUH FOOOOOOOD - there are also a few cool stores.”

Metreon IMAX Movie (in 3D!)You don’t get to choose the movie you want to watch.“If you don’t like movies about superheroes, don’t go to the movie.”

Rock ClimbingRemember that rock climbing center by the House of Air? Do just what the activity calls for: Climb rocks! “This can be called one of the better options for Activity Day.”

Swimming at St. IgnatiuYou’ll walk to Saint Ignatius HS, and swim for an hour. After changing in a small locker room with a few showers and a bench, you’ll leave your clothes inside of this room. Then swim for an hour, and return to this room for a shower and changing. Once you wait for everybody to finish, simply walk back to school and watch a movie with electronics and games back in Mrs. Momjian’s room. “We only had an hour of swim-ming, and my lips literally turned blue.” “You have to take a swimming test for the deep end.”

Stonestown and Movie Take the bus to Stonestown, and shop for an hour. These include any shops you’d like inside of the mall, and you won’t need guidance from chaperones. You gather at the mall at a certain time and take a bus to watch a movie at West Portal. “I liked going to Stonestown ’cause we didn’t have to bus very far to get there. I wish we had a little more time to shop.”

Stay at GianniniWhat did you think? You literally stay at the school. “Look at the sum-mary.”

The San Francisco ZooHave you been to a zoo field trip before? I’ll assume yes, for if you have, you understand this field trip. “The basic SF Zoo experience is imagin-able; meet a few elephants (editor’s note: no elephants at the SF Zoo) and chat with friends. Lunch is probably the best part.”

Warriors Basketball: Stats and Figures By Kevin Lin and Lucian Li

May 2015 | San Francisco Page 3 Volume 1 | Issue 2

The Warriors eliminated the Pelicans in the first round of the Playoffs. Winning four games to none over the Pelicans, they’re prepared for their exciting duel against Memphis in round two of the playoffs. The Houston Rockets faced the Clippers, who won a very exciting duel in round one. On the other side of the nation, in the Eastern Conference, Lebron’s crew, the Cavaliers, faced Chicago. The Washington Wizards swept the Raptors, and advanced to the second round to face the Hawks.

During the second round, the Warriors faced the Memphis Grizzlies. This was a very decisive round, because the the Grizzlies had a better advantage

of packing the paint, and the Warriors had a better advantage of chucking the tree up, and making it.

The Warriors have advanced past the Griz-zlies in the second round of the Playoffs, and are now facing the Rockets, winning game 1. They have won 8 of 10 of their postseason games so far. The Rockets will be a difficult opponent to beat if Golden State wishes to advance to the Finals, since they feature star center Dwight Howard and MVP runner-up James Harden, an excellent offensive team. Golden State’s offense may be able to find an opening in the Rockets’ defense, however, because their defense is not the best.Photo by Google Images
