Travel Consultant Apprenticeships

OverviewTravel consultants have a highly responsible role as they provide outstanding customer service, delivering a range of often complex travel arrangements, accommodation bookings and ancillary services which help to ensure their travellers have successful journeys. They ensure that time spent at their destination is positive and exceeds their expectations. Usually travel consultants specialise in either ‘corporate’ or ‘leisure’ travel. However, our employers agree that the essential knowledge, skills and behaviours gained from our apprenticeships are transferable across the industry.

How are they delivered? These apprenticeships are delivered via regular 1:1 tutorials in the workplace, webinars and internal training from the company. You will also be supported by online and paper-based training material.

Advanced (Level 3) Travel Consultant ApprenticeshipThe Travel Consultant Apprenticeship has been set at Level 3 and will take 12-24 months to complete depending on the individuals prior qualification level. The qualification covers a range of different areas including Geography, Travel Information, Industry Practice and Customer Service. Throughout the duration of your apprenticeship, you will need to show that you are becoming a competent travel consultant. You will do this via a range of methods, knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours. The qualification has three key areas of assessment:– Knowledge test - 55%– My journey - 0% – Professional discussion - 45%

Grading and Progression

Grading

The apprenticeship includes Pass, Merit and Distinction grades with the final grade based on performance across the knowledge test and the professional discussion independent end assessment activities. The apprentice must successfully complete ‘My Journey’ and achieve at least a pass in each of the two other independent end assessment components to successfully complete the apprenticeship. Apprentices will be awarded a final grade based on the weighted average of the knowledge test and professional discussion independent end assessment components. There is no maximum period for the independent end assessment components other than as prescribed by the validity of the apprenticeship standard approval.

Career progression

Individuals that successfully achieve the travel consultant apprenticeship standard will be well placed to progress within the industry into leadership or specialist travel roles and also onto a higher level of training or management apprenticeship.
