Welcome to Errigal College and our thriving Post Leaving Certificate (PLC)QQI Sector (formely FETAC). The college itself is under the aegis of County Donegal ETB. Its education provision aims to provide a quality education to all learners.

‘Linking Learning to Life’ is an often used phrase within Errigal College. The college at Windyhall, situated just above the Lk University Hospital on the Kilmacrennan Road, offers programmes of study for learners from 12 years and upwards, at Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate levels. The PLC provision is extensive and a major part of what we do at the college. We have been offering PLC Courses since 1987 and have excellent and in-depth experience in this sector. Currently all our courses are offered at QQI Level 5. Under QQI Quality Assurance we offer tuition at the highest standard, and in facilities of which we are very proud.

Each course has a Course Coordinator who guides the learners through the course of study and towards a career path of their choice with the assistance of our Guidance Counsellor within the college. Learners are encouraged to participate in the wide range of extra-curricular activities which are on offer at the college.

PLC Courses provide a valuable gateway to further and higher studies, for many of our learners, or a pathway to the workplace. Letterkenny, as a growing town, provides ample opportunities for work experience, accommodation and student life in general.

Special consideration will be given to mature students or others who may not have obtained a Leaving Certificate. Entry procedure is by application and possible interview. Work Experience:Work experience is arranged in conjuction with the Course Coordinator. Learners are placed in Work Experience one day each week for the duration of the course. This involves placements for the year in the Art, Craft & Design Industry. Career Opportunities & Progression: This course provides graduates with excellent career prospects in Arts, Craft, Painting and Graphic Design. Students’ personal development is expressed in a portfolio of course work. Graduates can progress from this course to Institutes of Technology and Universities through the CAO and/or Higher Education Links Scheme on obtaining a full award. Examinations and Accreditation: Examination is by both Continuous Assessment and end of year examinations. Certification is awarded by QQI. Career Opportunities & Progression: The successful completion of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Business & ICT Studies allows progression to further study at Institutes of Technology/Universities through the CAO and/or Higher Education Links Scheme or progress to employment in office administration, customer relations, I.T., data entry or related business areas. Examinations and Accreditation: Examination is by both continuous assessment and end of year examinations. Certification is awarded by QQI. Graduates can progress from this course to Institutes of Technology and Universities through the CAO and/or Higher Education Links Scheme on obtaining a full award. Examinations and Accreditation: Examination is by continuous assessment, skills demonstration and end of year examinations. Certification is awarded by QQI. Work Experience:Work experience is arranged in conjuction with the Course Coordinator. Learners are placed in Work Experience one day each week for the duration of the course. This involves placements for the year in the local area, - in hospitals, nursing units, homes for the elderly, special units, and special schools for those with disabilities. This gives students a good understanding of hospital life and the qualities and characteristics required for a successful career in Nursing. Career Opportunities & Progression: This QQI course award is recognised as an entry route into Nurse Training and Health Care in Institutes of Technology and Universities in Ireland and many UK Universities through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme on obtaining a full award. Graduates of this course have been very successful in their progression. Examinations and Accreditation: Examination is by both Continuous Assessment and end of year examinations. Work Experience:Work placement is arranged in conjuction with the Course Coordinator. Learners are placed in Work Experience one day a week for the duration of the course in local leisure centres, schools, health centres and community centres. Career Opportunities & Progression: This course produces graduates who are interested in a career in Sports and Recreation & Exercise. It is structured to prepare students for work in the leisure industry and develop an understanding of physical fitness and coaching. Graduates can progress from this course to Institutes of Technology and Universities through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme. Examinations and Accreditation: Examination is by both continuous assessment, skills demonstrations, log books and end of year examinations. Certification is awarded by QQI. Errigal College has developed a number of existing and exciting new courses that are designed to give you skills necessary for employment and further education. We are developing ongoing links with third level colleges and universities. We are close to a variety of health and leisure centres and you can avail of a host of activities to keep you entertained. These include soccer, bowling, go-karting, tennis, paint-balling, pool and snooker.

Courses are subject to approval by the Department of Education and Skills and are often dependent upon a minimum enrolment. We reserve the right to withdraw a course. The offer of course is subject to numbers.

1) A registration fee of €200 is payable to the Department of Education & Skills. This is waived if you hold a current medical card. 2) An enrolment fee of €100 applies and this fee is not covered by any grant or medical card.

3) A QQI examination fee of €50 applies for all non- medical card holders.
