This project talks about
change
Communication is changing, the world is changing with the communication
Un cambiamento epocale,nvolge tutti noi
Le cose attorno a noi cambiano a velocità inaudita
The change is transforming the sector of tourism, too.
It’s time for Tourism 2.0Everything change
Un cambiamento epocale,nvolge tutti noi
Le cose attorno a noi cambiano a velocità inauditaPeople is using digital media to create their holidays. And during their holidays.
Every holiday is organised, planned, designed using applications and websites.
On the road people shots pictures, records movies, leaves comments on their blogs and their accounts on different social networks. Everything goes on line, often on real time.
Coming back home, they tell everything about their holidays on the web. Everyone could read what they’ve written. Forever. The user could be the best friend of the place where he was. Or his worst enemy.
That’s why I decided to create a project to help people who visit a foreign city, giving more information and services through mobile devices and other technologies connected to them.
In this way people could walk around the city an discover it in a new way, easier and funnier.
The place that I choose is my city, Alghero.
I studied the structures and organizations who give services and informations to tourists in Alghero
I observed severe case studies organised in other cities in Italy, USA, Spain, Japan..
Angeli per viaggiatoriNaples

and Soundtouring (Padova), Woices (Barcelona), and various projects in Long Beach (Washington) and Hagi, Iwate e Akita (Japan).
Every person who visit a new place has different types of need.. Basical or not..
How can I go to..?
Where can I have party tonight?
What could I do this evening?
There is a restaurant near here?
Excuse me, do you know a good pastry in this place?
I observed case studies produces by UE‐Unione Europea, WTO (World Tourism Organization), OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) and many more, to comprehend the application of new technologies to the tourism sector..
The project Alghero QR want to create a system to give services and informations to the tourists. Is based on a website designed to be visualized on mobile devices (algheroqr.mobi). Inside the tourists can find informations, services and surprises that can improve their experience.
It’s time forAlgheroQR
QR codes will help people accessing to the specific pages inside the website furnishing the correct address. The codes will connect physical places to the digital spaces. QR codes will be used also focusing on another aspect: recreation and fun. The particular nature of QR codes can be adapted to hide information that tourists have to discover, like in a game.
Every person will be helped to install a free QR reader on his device, to decode the codes (and start the adventure).
The codes, or “tags”, will be positioned on walls and different surfaces. If they contain a useful information, will be easy to find. If inside them there is a secret to discover, the tourist has to work harder.. Looking everywhere.
The QR codes will be customised with some isotypes, to help people to recognize them easily.
One of the non conventional uses of QR codes in my project is QR Secret Events. The city will host some secret events (dinners, meetings, promotions, brunchs, aperitivi).
The only way to discover this events is to find the secret QR codes. And decode them.
In the old town centre (of Alghero) will be positioned some special QR codes, customised with some question marks on the top.
These codes will remind to a special event, with adescription, the time and the correct address.
???
The only way to take part to the special events is to find and decode the special codes.
In this way it possible to “trigger” a recreational dynamic, improved by curiosity and the change to take part to something exclusive.
???
Esempio QR SE (Secret Events)With this kind of services and a intelligent management of the different trends and applications (from web reputation and Tripadvisor to Gowalla and Foursquare) it’s possible to create a new touristic offert, changing the image of a place and his functioning.
The new interaction with users and tourists is the key to create their interest and give a more reason to come in your country or city. And enjoy the experience.
Several cities are already using QR codes tocreate useful services and new experiences.
Venezia, Parigi, Torino, Tokyo, Washington, NY, Hagi, Roma, Copenaghen, Stoccolma and many more..
Who wants to bethe next to create something newand exciting?
It’s all. Thanks for the attention.
