Why is Alexander Great? Alexander the Great was a legendary leader of his time. Even though

he defeated the Persian army, his true merit that made him great was his character. The compassion he showed toward his conquered foes and leadership he displayed to unite the struggling states of Greece made him famous.

Alexander did defeat the Persian army but had help from multiple sources.

Alexander’s well known mentor, Aristotle, taught him many things. Aristotle told Alexander that the people needed a ruler and that he is that ruler.

His father, Phillip II, established Macedon during a civil war. He made a home front and strengthen the state. Phillip also weakened the Persian army when he marched his impressive army to the coast of Asia Minor. Phillip did not complete his conquest. After the victory, like countless other leaders, he was assassinated but his attack was the beginning of a new era.

After Alexander united all of Greece he put together the largest army the world has ever seen. Alexander started his own campaign. 43,000 men and 5,500 horses were lead by this great ruler. To Alexander, this war was personal in every way.

End of Alexander May 323 in celebrating the victory of

the war, scholars say that Alexander had one too many glasses of wine and drank himself to death

Sadly, no one after him continued his rule

The war in itself was a nightmare. His cause in uniting the land didn’t

happen but it was no doubt that Alexander was one of the greatest leaders of all time
