Birth and Family

• He was born in Voronezh.

• He was born August 30th, 1962

• His father was Walter Litvinenklo who said the day after his son died “All that took to kill my son was a little tiny bomb, a bomb so small you cant even see it.”

Early Life

• Graduated from Nalchik Secondary School in 1980

•  He was drafted into the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a Private

• In 1881 he married Nataliya who was an accountant and had one son Alexander and a daughter Sonia

• After he graduated in 1985, Litvinenko became a platoon commander in the  Soviet Ministry of Internal Affairs

Career

• He started his KGB Career 1988• In 1991, he was promoted to the Central Staff of

the Federal Counterintelligence Service which was a security agency

• He was given the title “MUR Veteran” for working with the Moscow criminal investigation department

• In 1997, Litvinenko was promoted to the FSB Directorate of Analysis and Suppression of Criminal Groups and had the title of senior operational officer of the Seventh Section

Marriage

• Alexander Litvinenko married 2 people in his lifetime

• His first marriage was with a woman Nataliya, she was and accountant with one son and one daughter of her own and his name is Alexander and hers is Sofia.

• This Marriage would later end in divorce in 1994

• 1994 is also the year he married Mariana who was a ballroom dancer and a fitness instructor with a son named Anatoly

Poisoning and Death of Litvinenko

• The poison was a rare radioactive poison called polonium-210

• This poison was slipped into his cup of tea

• The poison was so strong that there is enough in a speck of it to kill someone

• His wife believes the president of Russia had something to do with it

• Officials believe that it was a man that was introduced to Litvinenko as Vladislav.

• He was pronounced dead on November 23 2006 just 22 days after finding out he would die

5 year anniversary of death

• On November 23, 2011 his widow spoke about him

• The 49 year old widow claimed that she knew that the government had something to do with the murder

• Mrs.Litvinenko was joined by her son, Anatoly, and Boris Berezovsky at the graveside ceremony

• Andrei Lugovoy and Dmitry Kovtun answered some questions at the private ceremony
