The Mandruzzato family is a clear example of Italian workers who settled in Venice dedicating their life

to the world of glass. Murano glass should be remembered as an art which originated in Rome in the 9th century,

with significant Asian and Muslim influences; in the same period, Venice was a major trading port dealing in glass. At

the time of Venetian Republic, in 1291, the government ordered the glass makers to move their foundries to Murano

because of the fire which destroyed all the wooden buildings around there. In the 14th century, glass makers were the

most prominent citizens of the island, enjoying legal immunity from any state prosecution. They were allowed to use

swords: this privilege though was only for influential social classes as well as marrying their daughters to the richest

families of Venice. They were not allowed to settle in a different place, though: many craftsmen went against the

Government and moved their ovens to England and the Netherlands.

Glass manufacturers, along the centuries, had secret monopoly and developed complex processes along with a

constant discipline in refining the techniques and finishings, creating one of the most impressive expressions of art

worldwide.

The perpetuation of such an ancient tradition in a variety of everyday objects and decorations defined as Murano

Glass art, allow people to look into history revealing both trends and artistic taste as the following classification

shows: crystal glass, enameled glass (smalto), glass with threads of gold (avventurina), multi-colored glass the (mil-

lefiori), milk glass (lattimo) and imitation gemstones made of glass (calcedonio). Murano artisans are still using those

ancient techniques developing new items from contemporary art glass sculptures, representing the diverse nature of

objects, lamps, jewelry boxes, vases, lovely perfume bottles, bowls and other precious jewelry items.

Luigi Mandruzzato (1908-1974) began to develop his skills concerning “smalto” and, in 1956, decided to

try and become an entrapreneur by creating his own business on the Fondamenta Navagero 54/b (restoring a part of

a 5th century convent). There, helped by his son Gianfranco Mandruzzato, developed different techniques

and, in 1974, founded the Mandruzzato Company. At that time, experiential marketing and innovative design, two

modern disciplines, captured most part of the experts’ attention. Luigi and his staff took part in events in Japan and

Italy and worked with painters such as Pablo Picasso and other acclaimed international artists.

At the very beginning of the new millenium, Alessandro Mandruzzato created his trademark company

based on quality and on the tricks of the trade to penetrate into the soul and to arouse emotions. The youngest mem-

ber of this family started off very special sculptures, a new experience and innovation in flat glass, including grinding

and engraving on cold glass, following the family tradition and producing wonderful pieces for interior design, colorful

items, varying textures proportions to suit the most discerning tastes, all sealed by the Mandruzzato family guaranty.

pections of the Company background in order to verify all the conditions provided for the

use of the trademark. All the conditions have been fulfilled, guaranteeing the quality seal

to customers. The geographical origin of these products should be indicated in order to

protect the brand. The concession contract shows the label trademark identification number

of the products.

Every item is unique and handmade by Alessandro Mandruzzatotm and it is certified by

trademark and label Italian Original Murano Glass and warranty document support.

San MarcoThis collection of vases is somewhat of a trademark product of Alessandro Mandruzzato, an icon that has identified the Mandruzzato family for many years. The shapes draw inspiration from the world of Murano, from nature, from Venice, from what has always surroun-ded the glassmakers’ life: the magic of glass lies precisely in capturing human experience and feelings within tangi-ble matter. The facade of the Basilica, its columns, its geometric shapes are captured within this vase like a precious memory. A meticulous mastery of the bevelling techniques gives life to uni-que angles and facets, some shiny and others opaque, for an incredible light and colour effect. Geometric shapes criss-cross all over the facade of the Basilica as well, to represent an an-cient symbolism: squares and triangles intersect over the entire surface of the majestic church.
