Day 3: Denali National Park The 6-8-hour bus trip takes you into Denali National Park with the park’s transit bus. This is your best opportunity to see bears, wolves, moose, caribou, fox and other wildlife up close. While the ride on the park transit bus is not narrated it gives you the freedom to get off the bus and do some hiking and afterwards taking a different bus back to the park entrance. Day 4: Denali - Fairbanks, 121 miles The scenic drive to Fairbanks allows you plenty of time to explore a little on foot, either in town or in the forest. Fairbanks is no pulsing metropolis, but it does offer some interesting diversions and a scenic location on the shores of the Chena River. Day 5: Fairbanks - Tok, 206 miles Continue your journey to Tok. The Richardson Highway was Alaska’s first road, known to gold seekers in 1898 as the Valdez to Eagle trail. On the way to Tok you pass North Pole, where you can take a picture with Santa Claus. Day 6: Tok - Dawson City, 197 miles Travel on the spectacular Taylor and Top of the World Highways to Dawson City. The Taylor Highway is a typical Alaskan gravel road, which can be in very good or very poor shape. In the afternoon, you cross the Canadian border, enjoy amazing views and reach Dawson City. Day 7: Dawson City Free day in the Las Vegas of the North. Dawson City is an old-west gold rush town with an attitude. Enjoy the turn-of-the-century atmosphere and be sure to try the world-famous sourtoe cocktail... Day 8: Dawson City - Whitehorse, 337 miles Today you travel to the capital city of the Yukon. Your drive takes you through gold rush country. Relics from that age are visible along the road. When you arrive in Whitehorse, take some time to explore this charming town, stroll along the riverside, and enjoy the atmosphere of this northern city. Day 9: Whitehorse - Skagway, 111 miles (or you chose to stay 2 nights in Whitehorse or Haines Junction instead of going to Skagway. No price difference)

From Whitehorse you wind your way up into the mountains. You travel past Fraser and Bennett Lake, and over the Chilkoot Pass, where weary gold seekers made their way from the ocean to the Klondike gold fields inland. Overnight in Skagway Day 10: Skagway - Haines Junction, 200 miles Drive back to Whitehorse and continue on to Haines Junction, located at the entrance of Kluane National Park. If time allows, continue on the Haines Hwy towards Haines, a great option to explore this most scenic Highway that showcases a wide alpine valley, following the eastern border of Kluane NP. Day 11: Haines Junction - Tok, 297 miles Leaving Haines Junction behind, the Alaska Highway takes you back into Alaska. You will travel along Kluane National Park, cross the border and go back to Tok. Tok is also known as the “Sled Dog Capital of Alaska” because so many of its residents are involved in some way with dogs and dog mushing. Day 12: Tok - Palmer, 286 miles Continue your journey to Palmer. Your scenic drive offers great views of the glaciers and takes you through the most important agricultural area in Alaska. Palmer is a community that is a bit of pioneer Alaska but also a modern-day commercial center for the Matanuska and Susitna valleys. Day 13: Palmer - Seward, 267 miles Return to Anchorage and continue southward to Seward. The Seward Highway offers outstanding sightseeing and wildlife viewing opportunities, including spawning salmon and several good hiking trails. Seward is a small fishing village with an excellent aquarium (Alaska SeaLife Center). Day 14: Seward - Anchorage, 130 miles You may want to join an optional whale- and glacier viewing tour at Kenai Fjords National Park before starting your drive back to Anchorage. Once again enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way. Day 15: Anchorage End of your trip. Return your rental car and depart.

Detailed program Day 1: Anchorage Arrival in Anchorage. Spend the day exploring Alaska's largest city. Visit the museums, enjoy a walk along the waterfront or explore the downtown area. If you happen to be here on a Saturday or Sunday, the downtown market is worth a visit.

Day 2: Anchorage – Talkeetna, 113 miles A rather short first driving leg takes you to Talkeetna, a charming artist community at the confluence of the Susitna-, Chulitna- and Talkeetna Rivers with views of Mt. Denali on clear days. Take an optional flightseeing- or jetboat tour.

Day 3: Talkeetna – Denali/Healy, 154 miles Drive on the Parks Highway to Denali National Park. Enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way. Weather permitting you can catch a great view of Mt. Denali. Overnight near the Denali National Park entrance or Healy.

Day 4: Denali National Park The 6-8-hour bus trip takes you into Denali NP with the park’s transit bus. This is your best opportunity to see bears, wolves, moose, caribou, fox and other wildlife up close. While the ride on the park transit bus is not narrated it gives you the freedom to get off the bus and do some hiking and afterwards taking a different bus back to the park entrance.

Day 5: Denali - Fairbanks, 121 miles The scenic drive to Fairbanks allows you plenty of time to explore a little on foot, either in town or in the forest. Fairbanks is no pulsing metropolis, but it does offer some interesting diversions and a scenic location on the shores of the Chena River.

Day 6: Fairbanks - Tok, 206 miles Continue your journey to Tok. The Richardson Highway was Alaska’s first road, known to gold seekers in 1898 as the Valdez to Eagle trail. On the way to Tok you pass North Pole, where you can take a picture with Santa Claus.

Day 7: Tok - Dawson City, 197 miles Travel on the spectacular Taylor and Top of the World Highways to Dawson City. The Taylor Highway is a typical Alaskan gravel road, which can be in very good or very poor shape. In the afternoon, you cross the Canadian border, enjoy amazing views and reach Dawson City.

Day 8: Dawson City Free day in the Las Vegas of the North. Dawson City is an old-west gold rush town with an attitude. Enjoy the turn-of-the-century atmosphere and be sure to try the world-famous sourtoe cocktail.

Day 9: Dawson City - Whitehorse, 337 miles Today you travel to the capital city of the Yukon. Your drive takes you through gold rush country. Relics from that age are visible along the road. When you arrive in Whitehorse, take some time to explore this charming town, stroll along the riverside, and enjoy the atmosphere of this northern city.

Day 10: Whitehorse Take a day to relax or discover the sights around Whitehorse. There are some interesting museums in town. The Miles Canyon is a good place to visit close to town. Or get active and join a canoe- or mountain biking tour.

Day 11: Whitehorse - Skagway, 111 miles From Whitehorse you wind your way up into the mountains. On a very scenic highway you will travel past Fraser and Bennett Lake, and over the Chilkoot Pass, where weary gold seekers made their way from the ocean to the Klondike gold fields inland. At the time of booking you may choose to drive to Haines instead of Skagway to have less of a distance to drive and take full advantage of options to explore the incredibly scenic Haines Highway, which leads through alpine meadow country.

Day 12: Drive from Skagway to Haines, 352 miles Enjoy fascinating landscapes along the border of the Kluane National Park Reserve, over the St. Elias Mountains and through forests along the Chilkat Eagle Preserve to the quaint fishing town of Haines. There are a lot of trails that offer great hiking in along the way.

Day 13: Haines - Haines Junction, 152 miles Known for its grand views of glaciated mountains and the variety of its scenery – from coastal forests to alpine tundra - the Haines Highway winds through river flats and climbs up to a wide alpine valley, following the eastern border of Kluane NP.

Day 14: Haines Junction - Tok, 297 miles Leaving Haines Junction behind, the Alaska Highway takes you back into Alaska. You will travel along Kluane National Park, cross the border and go back to Tok. Tok is also known as the “Sled Dog Capital of Alaska” because so many of its residents are involved in some way with dogs and dog mushing.

Day 15: Tok - McCarthy/Kennicott, 261 miles Today you will drive to the amazing Wrangell St. Elias National Park, the largest National Park in the US. 9 of the 16 highest peaks in North America are located in this park. The road ends just before McCarthy, a very charming ghost town that was once an important town for the world’s formerly most productive copper mine in Kennecott.

Day 16: McCarthy / Kennicott Free day to explore the area. Go on a glacier hike, visit the old copper mine in Kennicott on a guided tour, take a hike in the park or go on a scenic flight and enjoy the incredible scenery from above.

Day 17: McCarthy/Kennicott - Palmer, 274 miles Continue your journey to Palmer. Your scenic drive offers great views of the glaciers and takes you through the most important agricultural area in Alaska. Palmer is a community that is a bit of pioneer Alaska but also a modern-day commercial center for the Matanuska and Susitna valleys.

Day 18: Palmer - Seward, 267 miles Return to Anchorage and continue southward to Seward. The Seward Highway offers outstanding sightseeing and wildlife viewing opportunities, including spawning salmon and several good hiking trails. Seward is a small fishing village with an excellent aquarium (Alaska SeaLife Center).

GONORTH TRAVEL CENTER - SELF-DRIVE TARIFF 2021 16

Day 19: Seward Today you will join the Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise Tour. This 6-hour whale-watching/glacier cruise takes you to Holgate Glacier. On route you will discover the diverse marine wildlife. A snack lunch is included. Day 20: Seward - Anchorage, 130 miles You may want to join a kayaking tour or visit the Exit Glacier before starting your drive back to

Anchorage. Once again enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way. Day 21: Anchorage Return of your rental car and end of your trip.

This is the most beautiful train ride in Alaska taking you along Turnagain Arm and snowcapped mountains. Upon arrival in Seward you will join a 6-hour cruise in the Kenai Fjords National Park giving you the opportunity to spot marine wildlife and glaciers.

Day 3: Seward – Anchorage (by train) You will have most of the day to explore Seward on your own. Visit the SeaLife Center, stroll through the town center or spend the day visiting nearby Exit Glacier. In the late afternoon the train takes you back to Anchorage. Arrival is approx. 10:15PM.

Day 4: Anchorage – Talkeetna (by train) Take the train to Talkeetna, a charming artist town with a fantastic location and great views of the Alaska Range. The population is highly creative (they officially elected a cat as mayor of the town), thus you will find many imaginative shops and businesses as well as the mystique of its mountaineering community.

Day 5: Talkeetna – Denali (by train) Today it’s on to famous Denali National Park. On clear days you can enjoy great views of the mountain ranges while you relax on the train. You will arrive in the afternoon and have the remainder of the day to get familiar with the region.

lunch at a lodge followed by some free time to relax, go for a walk or take part in a short activity. Afterwards you hop on the bus again for the ride back to the park entrance.

Day 7: Denali – Fairbanks (by train) Enjoy some more time at Denali before catching the train to Fairbanks. You may go back to the park entrance and visit the exhibition at the Visitor Center, the Murie Science Center or the Sled Dog Demonstration. Arrival in Fairbanks is approx. 8PM.

Day 8: Fairbanks – Chena Hot Springs, 56 miles Pick up your rental car and drive through the scenic Chena Hot Springs Recreation Area to the equally named resort. On almost every drive moose can be spotted along the road. There are many good options for hiking.

Day 9: Chena Hot Springs – Fairbanks, 56 miles Return to Fairbanks. There is a lot to do in Alaska’s second largest city: Experience the old days at Pioneer Park, learn about history and cultures in the interesting museums or take a dinner cruise down the Chena River.

Day 10: Fairbanks – Tok, 204 miles Leave Fairbanks on the Richardson Hwy. On your way you can visit Santa Claus in North Pole and get a very close look at the famous Alaska pipeline that goes all the way from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez.

Day 11: Tok – Dawson City, 186 miles Driving the scenic Taylor- and the Top of the World Highways will take you through the small community of Chicken. Other than that and some buildings at the border, it is a day in pure nature. The Taylor Hwy is a typical Alaskan gravel road and road conditions are difficult at times. The Top of the World Highway rewards with panoramic views of the nearby hills and mountains.

Day 12: Dawson City Enjoy a day at leisure in Dawson City and take in the gold rush atmosphere. Tour the Klondike Gold Fields and try your luck panning for gold. You should not miss driving or hiking up “The Dome”, the rounded peak above Dawson City, for a panoramic view over the town, river and valleys.

Day 13: Dawson City – Whitehorse, 331 miles Drive the Klondike Highway south to Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. Relics from the gold rush era are visible along the roadsides. When you arrive in Whitehorse, take some time to explore this charming town and stroll along the riverside.

Day 14: White Pass & Yukon Route Day Excursion Today you will experience another train ride while

travelling the famous White Pass and Yukon Route to Skagway and back. It climbs almost 3000 feet in just 20 miles and features steep grades of up to 3.9%, cliffhanging turns of 16 degrees, two tunnels and numerous bridges and trestles. The excursion starts with a bus trip from Whitehorse to Fraser where you will board the train to Skagway. After approximately 2 hours in Skagway you will return to Whitehorse by motor coach.

Day 15: Whitehorse – Haines Junction, 100 miles A short drive brings you to Haines Junction, the gateway to explore Kluane NP.

Day 18: Tok – McCarthy, 261 miles Today you will drive to the amazing Wrangell St. Elias National Park, the largest National Park in the US. 9 of the 16 highest peaks in North America are located in this park. The road ends just before McCarthy, a very charming ghost town that was once an important town for the world’s formerly most productive copper mine in Kennecott.

Day 19: McCarthy / Kennicott Free day to explore the area. Go on a glacier hike, visit the old copper mine in Kennicott on a guided tour, take a hike in the park or go on a scenic flight.

Day 20: McCarthy – Matanuska area or Palmer, 202 - 274 miles The scenic Glenn Hwy offers some good opportunities for hiking or fishing. See Sheep Mountain and the Matanuska Glacier before you enter the Mat-Su Valley either today or tomorrow. This valley gets the most hours of sunshine in Alaska and is therefore the prime agricultural area. Overnight in the Sheep Mountain Area or Palmer.

Day 21: Matanuska/Palmer – Anchorage, 41 - 72 miles A short drive takes you back to Anchorage. Visit some more attractions or do some shopping before choosing one of the various pubs and restaurants for your last dinner in Alaska.

Day 22: Anchorage Return your rental car. End of trip.

While we do not sell insurance, please be aware that you will be traveling through sparsely populated areas and nature may ask for adjustments in an itinerary due to flooding, wildfire, blizzards or similar events. Also naturally occurring human disease processes (including, but not limited to, the currently widespread Corona Virus) occur in all environments. Please ensure that you have a good travel insurance as travel adjustments may result in additional services that will need to get paid on spot.

NEW AND IMPORTANT Ferry Information We do not include any ferry sailings with Alaska Marine Highway Systems in our self-drives anymore, as their schedule had been reduced to very few or no sailings in specific directions, with focus on serving the communities and their needs only, not catering towards tourists itineraries anymore, which would require more sailings than only one every other week as currently is in discussion for many places. If you would like to add a ferry sailing, we will add that sailing into the existing routing should a sailing be scheduled and bookable. Should the schedule later change, and no sailing is offered that day anymore, you will drive per itinerary. For ferry sailings please also advise full names as written in your passports (incl. middle names), dates of birth and phone number under which you can be contacted during the trip. GoNorth will charge a booking fee of USD 25.00 for each leg in addition to the official ferry rates.

Accommodations Listed are the priority accommodations for each self-drive. We book a similar alternative if a property is not available at the time of booking. Please note this might also change meal inclusions (e.g. breakfast might no longer be included). Please read our confirmation, which will list all the accommodations and activities booked for a self-drive carefully, as they may differ from the 1st priority listed in this tariff. Where more than one hotel is listed, oftentimes the second prioritiy is of significantly different character over the other accommodation. Please let us know at time of booking, which option you would prefer if available. We always appreciate receiving information on your preferences: type of accommodation (hotel, inn, cabins, B&B, mix of all etc.), location (in town/downtown, out of town/natural setting). It may not always be possible to accommodate the preferences, but we will try and change according to your request where possible over the hotels listed as first priority, as long as it does not affect the price listed. Please request particular bed configuration or other special requests at time of booking. Requests received at a later point oftentimes will result in accommodation change and change fees will apply.

Covid-19 Related Information Travelers need to be aware that naturally occurring human disease processes (including, but not limited to, the currently widespread Corona Virus) occur in all environments. While businesses are taking reasonable measures to avoid contact, exposure, transmittal, or contamination of the virus between people (including guests, employees and other third parties) it is the guest’s sole responsibility to safeguard themselves and others. Requirements such as (but not limited to) wearing masks and keeping physical distance may be in effect; meal options and other services may be offered in an adjusted form.

We look forward to welcoming you to Alaska and the Yukon for a great travel experience in these beautiful states of incredibly scenic nature !
