Gorakhpur is a city along the banks of the Rapti river in the Poorvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarter’s of Gorakhpur district, North Eastern Railway Zone and Gorakhpur division. The city is known for the Gorakhnath Math, a Gorakhnath temple. The city also has an Indian Air Force station, since 1963. Gita Press, the world's largest publisher of Hindu religious texts is also located in Gorakhpur.It is located in the holy city of Gorakhpur and inherits the spiritual and philosophical legacy of Lord Buddha, Sant Kabir and Mahayogi Guru Gorakshnath. The unique spiritual journey of Poorvanchal has developed as a response to people coming on the Buddhapath pilgrimage and wanting to go deeper into Indian culture, to understand the wisdom of sustainable indigenous systems and practices. A soulful journey from Guru Gorakshnath's place towards Sonauli, Shravasti and finally to Lumbini via Kapilvastu would be like drenching in peace and wisdom and a unique 'Yatra'. The propitious importance of this place continues as the world-famous Ram Janam Bhumi resides just 140 kms away from it.

About�Gorakhpur

The first university of Uttar Pradesh in free India was established in Gorakhpur, the Tapasthali (place of veneration) of Mahayogi Guru Shree Gorakhnath. It is a well-known fact that this city was named Gorakhpur after the name of Mahayogi Gorakhnath. Hence the university was named and got established as Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur at first. Today, this university is distinguished by the name of Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, named after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, the pioneer of Integral Humanism. A dream first visualized by Mr. C.J. Chako and later took shape by the untiring efforts of Pt. S.N.M Tripathi. The proposal was first accepted by the first Chief Minister, U.P., Pt. G.B. Pant in 1956 and Mahant Digvijay Nath and Sardar Surendra Singh Majithia played pivotal role in establishing the first University in U.P. The geographical location of the University is
