Young Writers: Parents’ love and care

Many people tend to take advantage of what they have. I'm not going to lie but I did the same in the past. Most of the people take things as little as food, shelter and clothing for granted. At the same time, there are people currently living in poor places and countries wish to have basic things and they suffer to get them. In comparison, Most of us – as children - tend to take advantage of our parents/guardians while they work so hard just to give us a good life. Sometimes, we don't worry about how our parents feel. Everyone should be so thankful for their parents because children who have lost their parents due to illness, war, and famine are forced to fend for themselves in this unfair world. We shouldn’t just love our family once a year, but we should love them always because they will have an open door policy for us. Your parents and family are the ones that truly love you and care about you. Thanks Allah for giving me loving parents.

When asked to write about our beloved prophet (PBUH), mixed feelings of excitement and love over shadows a person followed by a sense of shortcoming as its difficult to find words describing his status with Allah SWT. There is also a fear of not being able to use the words suiting him. He is indeed the best human history has ever known or will know forever to come. What words can we choose better than Allah SWT’s words in Quran describing him as “The mercy to the worlds,” a mercy to mankind, a mercy to angels, a mercy to the animal kingdom and more…. His value and status becomes more clear when we reflect on the ayah: “Allah SWT and his angels send blessings on the prophet (PBUH), O, ye that believe! send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect. His behavior was Quran as was described by Um Almomenin Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Allah SWT describes his manners as “great.” To be continued

Reflecting on the fact that Allah SWT, the creator of the universe, described the manners of his beloved prophet (PBUH) as “great” shows the greatness and high status of his character. His worry was his Ummah, weeping and crying asking Allah SWT to save his Ummah in this world and hereafter. His simple life is exemplary to mankind. His manners at home with his wives are an ultimate guide for us to follow. His balanced life, i.e encouraging reaching the highest degrees in science and the knowledge of this world and at the same time not to indulge into the materialistic world and to rely fully and first on Allah SWT, is indeed a way to success in this world and hereafter. He has left two valuable gifts to us and asked us to preserve them by acting upon them, the Book of Allah SWT and his Sunnah. The description of our beloved prophet (PBUH) is beyond the scope of this newsletter and any book or publication; however, I would end this writing by quoting the following paragraph: “If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in modern history with Muhammad? The most famous men created arms, laws and empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes. This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one-third of the then inhabited world; and more than that, he moved the altars, the gods, the religions, the ideas, the beliefs and souls... His forbearance in victory, his ambition, which was entirely devoted to one idea and in no manner striving for an empire; his endless prayers, his mystic conversations with God, his death and his triumph after death; all these attest not to an impostor but to a firm conviction which gave him the power to restore a dogma. This dogma was twofold, the unity of God and the immateriality of God; the former telling what God is, the latter telling what God is not; the one overthrowing false gods with the sword, the other starting an idea with the words. Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?” [Lamartine, Histoire de la Turquie, Paris 1854 Vol. II, pp. 276-77.] Indeed not, Peace and blessings of Allah SWT be upon you Ya Rasoul Allah! We ask Allah SWT to make us among those who follow in his footsteps and to resurrect us with him insha’allah on the day of Judgment. Dr. Fereidoon Shafiei

The Muslim pearls youth club is a new group of young ladies that come together for a halaqah to learn more about their religion in a friendly environment. It is a great opportunity for Shreveport/Bossier city youth to get together and meet new members from their community. The group meets every Friday from 5:50 PM to 7:30 PM at Masjid Yassen to watch a halaqah that is based upon topics the members choose. After the halaqah, the group starts the discussions and asks questions. There are also games and different activities that members do during the meeting. In one of the meetings, the group went to the park and had a game of ultimate Frisbee and enjoyed every minute of it. Make plans to start joining the group on a weekly basis inshAllah.
