Dear Readers,As we ap-proach thec o m i n gmonths ofR a m a d a n
and Dhul-Hijjah, it is importantfor us to recognize and prioritizeour duties to Allah SWT. Althoughit is easy to fall into the habit ofspending our time trying to ob-tain merely transient success, itis necessary that we also take thetime to reflect on how our con-duct and actions will contributeto our success not only in thisworld, but also in the hereafter. One of the most profound wayswe can realize Allah SWT’smercy is through the executionof good deeds. Allah SWT saysin the Holy Quran, “And thosewho believe and do righteousgood deeds, they are dwellers of
paradise, they will dwelltherein forever” (2: 82). Keep-ing this in mind, it is essentialto understand that it does notmatter what your status, goodor bad, may be in this world, but rather, when it comes todeath, the only memento ofworth that any of us will bringto the grave with us will bethe good deeds in which weperformed. The five pillarsof Islam (declaration of faith, prayer, charity, fasting, andpilgrimage) are among themost sublime actions any hu-man being can fulfill duringtheir lifetime. The Hajj (pil-grimage) is such a substan-tial act that it actually removesthe sins of the performer andcleanses one so much that,SubhanAllah, after perform-ing Hajj, Prophet Muhammad
SAW says that it is like thepilgrim becomes as pure as anewborn baby. With the po-tential to receive this extraor-dinary blessing, it comes asa surprise that some Muslimschoose not to perform Hajj,as instructed by Allah SWT.In the Holy Quran (3:97), Al-lah says, “And [due] to Allahfrom the people is a pilgrim-age to the House - for who-ever is able to find thereto away. But whoever disbelieves- then indeed, Allah is freefrom need of the worlds.”This verse has a two-foldmeaning. First it addresseswhom the pilgrimage isobligatory for, which is thosewho have the ability (healthand financial means), andnext it declares the self-suf-ficiency of God.

Dr. Hamid Ullah, after mentioning all thetraditions of prohibition, writes:— “All
these traditions mean that round about the year 7 A.H., theProphet (peace be upon him) made some important speeches. Some newly converted Muslims had come from Yemen, Someof them were literate. Some Surahs of the Quran were given tothem to read and memorise. When they heard that speech ofthe Prophet (peace be upon him) some of them wrote it on thesame papers on which the Qur’an had been written. At thin theProphet (peace be upon him) prohibited to write anything fromhim other than the Qur’an and ordered to cancel what hadbeen so written.” “Don’t write, from me anything except theQur’an, and he who has done .so should erase that.” The tra-ditions are the history of the Sunnah. These were being re-corded during the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him), asshown below “And remember what is read in your houses outof the Qur’an and the Sunnah’ Somebody asked from ImamShafi’i about the argument that the ‘Hikma’ which was re-vealed along with the Qur’an, means the Sunnah, He recitedthis verse. And this verse, further points out that in the houseof the Prophet two things used to be read, the Qur’an and theSunnah. This indicates that the Prophet’s wives used to writethe Sunnah as well There- fore the Qur’an itself witnesses tothe early stage of the compilation of the Sunnah during theProphet’s life (peace be upon him);(b) Hafiz Abdul Bar says, “The Prophet dictated a book on thelaw of taxation, monetary come pensation, inheritance and gen-eral law. Its copies were given to the governors appointed out-side Madina, “(c) Hafiz Ibne Hajar Asqlani writes: “The Prophet (peace beupon him) appointed Amr bin Hazam as the commissioner andthe jurisconsult of Najran, and dictated for him a book whichcontained the ‘Law of Inheritance the general law, law of taxa-tion and monetary compensation, Imam Zuhri says that thisbook was written on leather. It was with the grandson of Amerbin Hazam. He took it from him and read it. Amer bin Hazamcollected twenty one more dictations of the Prophet and com-piled in one volume. Ibne Tulum has made it the appendex ofhis book ‘Aa’lam ul Sailin An Kitabe Syed il Mursalin.’ Umarbin Abdul Aziz required some document of the Prophet on the:‘Law of Taxation’. He got this book from the descendants ofAmer bin Hazam. 2 Abu Daud, Nasai, Ibne Habban and Darmihaven narrated its parts relating to the Revenue and CriminalLaws. Yaqub bin Safyan says: The companions of the Prophet(peace be upon him) and their successors used to refer to itand rely on it.

When I begin my World Religion class eachsemester, we discuss the importance of un-derstanding interpretation. I attempt to dem-onstrate that from the beginning of time, hu-man beings have been involved in the processof interpretation and re-interpretation. Some
INTERPRETATION
students question if this is good, or bad? In all honesty I won-der if such a question is valid. In essence, whether some "inter-pret" it to be good, or bad does not take away from the fact thatinterpretation is a reality and part of our every day lives. One ofthe tools that I use to illustrate this topic of interpretation is art.I usually bring a form of art art, show it to the class and askthem what they see, feel, understand this particular piece of artto represent. As you can imagine, the number of responses,"interpretations" become as vast as possibly the number of stu-dents in the class. One thing that is usually identified by thestudents is that each person's interpretation needs to be respected, even though, perhaps, one might not be able to identify withnor fully understand their particular interpretation. It is fromthis vantage point of identifying the validity of interpretations, that we go a little further and begin to study how religions havedeveloped as human beings have attempt to understand andcommunicate their very deep, personal experiences of the Di-vine in their lives and in their relation to one another. In essence, what is the essential meaning of the word religion? In its Latinroot (RELIGIO) it translates to RECONNECT. I find it interest-ing that the word itself connotes an apparent Disconnect, thusrequiring the need to come back together. Our discussions natu-rally become quite involved at this point in the class, as wedelve into thee manifold understandings of what is disconnected, what might be reasons for such disconnect and how thereconnection can be made complete and whole. We are indeedcomplex individuals. I truly believe that we live in a complexworld, and that our God is not as easily defined as some seemto think. As we continue our journeys here on this earth, I wouldhope that we use all of our senses to fully enter into this won-derful opportunity given us to attempt understanding of theMagnificent Divine that is in us, around us and is hopefullyworking through us as we feebly continue this momentous taskof reconnecting. As I begin my World Religion Class with thisunderstanding of interpretation, and the use of art form to exactsuch illustration, I believe that Art in and of itself can be a won-derful tool that assists us in this process of understanding andreconnecting. As Aristotle once mentioned, "The aim of art is torepresent not the outward appearance of things, but their in-ward significance." This past Sunday, our church hosted ourAnnual Art Exhibition. One of our devoted church members, and local artist, Gin Todd, teaches an art class every Tuesdayevening and Wednesday morning at our church.

With just a few days to go before we are hopefully graced withthe blessed month of Ramadhan, we should be preparing our-selves and our families for this special season of opportunity, joy, glad tidings and great blessings. We must prepare ourselves men-tally, spiritually and physically and plan to make every effort forthis to be our best Ramadhan ever. Let us also continue to utilizethe rest of this month of Shaban to sharpen and fine tune ourworship habits, and follow up the coming month of Ramadhan tofast, and worship our Lord and Creator with the utmost love, gratitude and sincerity and focus. Let us use our good health andour free time in seeking the pleasure of Allah SWT by remember-ing Him in prayer 5 times a day, as well as in extra Sunnah, Nafiland tahajjud prayers and other Dhikr. Let us also repent for allour sins daily, so we can meet the month of Ramadan with a cleanrecord ready to fill our accounts with lots and lots of blessingsfrom Allah SWT the most gracious most merciful. Let us also callon our Lord with focus, humility, and consistency if we want ourduas and supplications answered insha Allah. As we make ourplans for this special month of Ramadhan, the month of Quran, the month of mercy, forgiveness and salvation from the fire ofHell, let us remember the advice of Prophet Muhammad PBUHwho told us more or less that there are two great favors that AllahSWT has bestowed on us human beings that we frequently takefor granted and we consistently waste: They are Allah’s blessingsof good health that He gives to us and also our free time. One daywe will have to give an account to our Creator Allah SWT for howwe utilized our good health as well as how spent our free time onthis earth. While we are blessed with good health and spare time,we should look for every opportunity to worship our Lord in ev-ery way, we should try to help others in need, help clean the houseof Allah God Almighty, the Masjid, visit the sick, go to funerals, help out in our community, help provide food and clothing to theless fortunate brothers and sisters in humanity, help in the Dawaefforts to spread the word of God Almighty to all mankind, helpour neighbors, etc. My friends, we have to stop making excusesfor our inaction and complacency and start making the effort byremembering our duties to our Lord and duties to each other andby utilizing the favors and bounties of our Lord in meaningfulways. We waste so much time at home on the computer, surfingthe internet, playing games, watching TV, talking on the phoneabout each other, sinning ourselves by slandering and talking ill ofothers without even realizing it, and we do so many other thingsthat will not bring us any rewards.

The blessed month of opportunity, the month ofQur’aan, mercy, forgiveness, salvation and patience, the month of endless blessings will soon be upon us.May Allah SWT bless us all with the life, health and
motivation to embrace and maximize the blessed month in ways that aremost pleasing to Him, Ameen.

Death is your final chapter,Taking you off life’s burner. No more the toast on earth,
As to six under you will berth. Our journey from birth to death,
Only begins with a simple breath.
DEATH’S INEVITABILITY
A road paved with joys, much sorrow,As we travel to the eventual morrow.Malikul Mawt waits not for anyone. As for friend or foe, he knows none.Blows your fuse by Allah’s behest,Saying adiou to your mundane test.
When the throes of death reach man,He sights end of his earthly span,
And filled is his heart, emotions rife,For at stake a very precious life. Some take life stride by stride.Others not, opting for suicide.
What a way on earth to sit, then exitStraight to the Bottomless Pit!
Allah says: “Taste of death for every soul.”So while on stage, act your role,
Following script, Sunnah & Qur’aan,And successful would be His Insaan.

I’TIKAAF
Bro. Farooq Shafi
By Bro. Farooq ShafiSunrise, Florida U.S.A
One of the bounties that Allaah SWT hasbestowed upon the Muslim Ummah viathe Holy Prophet (SAW) is the holy monthof Ramadhan. Although this whole monthis full of Almighty Allaah’s Mercy, Grace
and Benevolence, these attributes of Allaah SWT are at theutmost height in the last 10 days. The holy prophet SAW,used to do Itikaaf in the last 10 days of Ramadhan. Now, it isAlmighty Allaah’s Mercy and Benevolence that a large num-ber of Muslims sit for Itikaaf these days; and the majority isof the younger generation. The heightened inclination to sitfor Itikaaf these days is a living proof that the NEW ERA ofIslam is dawning. During Itikaaf, not only do we reap thebenefits of our presence in the House of Allaah, but also themercies of the last 10 days of Ramadhan. Although the dura-tion of Itikaaf is for a short period of time, the rewards areENORMOUS. During Itikaaf, one should recite the HolyQur’aan, do Zikr, read Darood Sharif, perform nafal salaahand do tasbih; all in abundance. And the last item that is a“panacea” for many asks from Allaah SWT is the“muraaqibah” (meditation). Allaah SWT Says in chapter 34,v. 46 of the Holy Qur’aan, “Say unto them O Muhammad, Iexhort you unto one thing only, that ye awake for Allaah’ssake, by twos and singly, and then reflect”. In chapter 3, v.191, Allaah SWT Defines the Intelligents (Momins) as, “Suchas remember Allaah, standing, sitting and reclining and con-sider the creation of the heavens and the earth”. There is norestriction of taking a bath during Itikaaf; neither it is in theHoly Qur’aan or the Hadith. Islam, which is easy and ac-cording to nature, is not rigid. One cannot enjoy ibaadah (stateof prayer) without cleansing the body. Bathing, rather, fresh-ens up the body. What is “not” recommended strongly duringItikaaf is “vain talk”. It has the greatest potential of keepingone away from reaping the benefits of Itikaaf. There are twonarrations about visiting the sick during Itikaaf and both arerelated by Aisha (RA). One relates that the Holy Prophet(SAW) used to visit the sick but for a very limited time. Theother relates that one should refrain from this practice. If readtogether, it can be ascertained that visiting the “very sick” fora short time is permissible but not every sick. And accord-ingly, it is permissible to attend the funeral of a close relativeduring Itikaaf. At the end, as a reminder to myself and all thereaders, Allaah SWT Reminds us in chapter 13, v. 28, “whohave believed and whose hearts rest in the remembrance ofAllaah: verily, in the remembrance of Allaah do hearts findsolace”. Allaah Knows Best

Continued on Page 25, Inshaa Allaah
No one wants to make a mistake and dohimself or others mischief. However, making mistakes is an important part ofour trial in the life of this world. Allah
created our trial in the life of this world in this way. Anyone canmake a mistake but what is important is that he repents after hismistake and strive not to repeat this mistake. Allah reveals in theverses of the Qur’an that human beings are weak creatureswho can forget and be mistaken. A person can make a mistakewhen he does not think something through, ignores something, does not take the necessary precautions, is overwhelmed by hisweak points, forgets or is mistaken. This is very natural. How-ever the important thing is how the person reacts after this, rather than the mistake itself. However big the mistake is, assoon as the person decides to resign himself and begins to showthe attitude hoped to please Allah, that mistake disappears -byAllah’s leave. Almighty Allah reveals as such in Surah Al- Imran:“Those who, when they act indecently or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their bad actions (andwho can forgive bad actions except Allah?) and do not know-ingly persist in what they were doing.” (Surah Al ‘Imran, 135)Allah Creates Everything We Do - Everything a person livesthroughout his or her life, everything they do, every situationthey face, all of them are created by Allah with all of the prosand cons. In the verses it is revealed that not even a single leaffalls without the knowledge of Allah. (Surah al-An‘am, 59). InSurat al-Qalam, it is revealed “Everything they did is in the Books.Everything is recorded, big or small.” (Surat al-Qamar, 52-53).This means that the person makes that mistake because Allahwills him to do so; it is in his destiny to make that mistake. When he acts according to the Qur’an, something good willhappen after that mistake. For example, a person may break avase when walking by it because he is not careful enough ordoes not look ahead. Or he can bump into a dinner plate pre-pared with great effort and knock it off a table. He may causethe people waiting for him to delay their jobs because he fellasleep. Now in all these there is a variety of reasons created byAllah. Allah is the One Who breaks that object. Maybe that ob-ject would have caused a conflict between its owners or brokenin a dangerous way that would harm someone. Maybe Allah willmake a much more beautiful one to be purchased instead. In thesame way, Allah is the One Who makes the food spill on thefloor. Maybe there is an bad ingredient inside that food and itwould have made someone ill. Maybe that food would haveprevented that person from eating something healthier.

HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN!HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN!HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN!HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN!HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN!THE RISE & DEMISE OF YAJUJ AND MAJUJ
Some time ago,I visited a locals u p e r m a r k e twith my wife.As we ambledaround theaisles, I saw aman. He wasphysically im-
posing, and carried with him a palpableaura of aggression. Writ large on the frontof his dark blue sweat shirt, in starklycontrasting white letters, were the words,“I DO NOT CARE IF YOU RESPECTME”. As he passed, I noticed that therewere words writ large on the back of hissweat shirt also: “ AS LONG AS YOUFEAR ME”. That told me pretty mucheverything I needed to know about hismindset. Fear is a very powerful emo-tion, and its power is often woefully un-derestimated. Shaitan knows this, and ita tool that he has no hesitation in utilisingif he deems it necessary. Fear can makepeople do truly terrible things. However, depressing though this thought may be,the Qur’an contains an example of howfear itself can be conquered, and how thepower it seems to imbue a person with istruly illusory. During a protracted jour-ney abroad, the legendary king Dhu’lQarnayn, a man of both great piety andgreat power, was approached by a tribewho seem to have been rather devoid of
technological expertise and lived simple, uncomplicated lives. They were, theQur’an states, “barely able to understandspeech”. They told Dhu’l Qarnayn thatthey were being harassed by two tribesknown as Yajuj and Majuj, who were caus-ing “great mischief” in the land. The fullstory of what then transpired is containedin Surat al Kahf, 93-100 and Surat alAnbya 96-97. I strongly urge you to readthe complete account before continuing, but what we are told in essence is this:“They said, ‘O Dhul Qarnayn, indeed Gogand Magog are great mischief-makers inthe land. Can we pay you so that youmight make between us and them a bar-rier?’ He replied, ‘My Lord has estab-lished me in something which is betterthan what you offer, but help me withyour strength and I will create betweenyou and them a dam. Bring me sheets ofiron.’ When he had placed them betweenthe two mountainsides, he said, “Blowupon them with bellows’ until he hadmade a fire. Then he said, ‘Bring memolten copper that I may pour it over[the dam].” So Gog and Magog wereunable to pass over it, nor were they ableto penetrate it.” Now it is clear that thepeople of Yajuj and Majuj were warlikeand aggressive, and yet the actions of apious servant of Allah, with the evidentblessing and permission of Allah Himself, neutered their behaviour and enabled their
victims to enter an era of peace in whichYajuj and Majuj could not trouble themfurther. This is the first juncture in theaccount where we learn a most valuablelesson: no matter how powerful our en-emies may think they are, their might isas nothing compared to that of their Cre-ator. However, breathtaking though thestory of Dhu’l Qarnayn is, what we aretold later about Yajuj and Majuj elevatesthings to a completely different level. Before he leaves, Dhu’l Qarnayn tells thetribes-people, “This [wall] is a mercyfrom my Lord; but when the promise ofmy Lord arrives, He will make it level, and the promise of my Lord is alwaystrue.” Abu Hurayrah was a meticulousscholar who spent three years in the com-panionship of Prophet Mohammed(SAW). He related a hadeeth of theProphet (SAW) in which he once stated,“Every day, Yajuj and Majuj dig [at thewall] until they can almost see daylightcoming through from the other side.Their leader says to them, ‘Stop now;come back tomorrow and complete yourtask.’ But then Allah makes the wall asstrong as it was before. This will con-tinue until Allah decides that the time isright to let them loose against mankind. They will dig, and their leader will say,‘Come back and finish it tomorrow, if itis the will of Allah.’

Also Allah is the One Who does not wakea person who is late for a job because hefell asleep because maybe his friends wait-ing for him need to be late as well. Maybethis will protect them from some dangeror maybe bring the means to carry out amore important job. If one does not real-ize these facts, when he makes a mistakehe would panic and feel anxiety and sor-row. He would feet unease and dismay. His sadness would increase even becauseof the effect of this situation on otherpeople and his troubles increase day byday. However, it is not in line with themoral values of the Qur’an to feel sad, dismay and troubled because of a mistake, which took place in his destiny by Allah’swill. Muslims overthrow their discomortand anxieties as a result of their mistakesagain by turning to Allah and acting ac-cording to the moral values of the Qur’an.They do not fall into depression likepeople who do not live by the morality ofreligion. They do not feel sadness, sorrowor hopelessness by evaluating their mis-takes with an emotional state of mind. They only experinece a very deep andstrong sense of regret. However this is notan evil kind of regret; it is a Muslim kindof regret because this feeling of regrethelps them hold onto the Qur’an evenmore strongly. They pray to Allah evenmore deeply. Their religious enthusiasm, determination to live by the moral val-ues of the Qur’an, submission to Allah, faith in the hereafter and fear of Allahincrease tremendaously. They take verysincere decisions to become better in ev-ery way and become more enthusiastic andenergetic by striving more in this way. Theyknow that even if they could take the timeback, they would still make the same mis-takes. When they criticize themselves andfeel regret for their actions, they do notforget that all things have occured accord-ing to destiny. Therefore they do not “livein a sense of guilt” as irreligious peopledo.

Two little boys stole a bag of orangefrom their neighbour and decided to goto a calm place to share the “loot’’. Oneof them suggested the nearby cemetery. As they were jumping the big gate toenter the cemetery, 2 oranges fell out ofthe bag behind the gate, but they didn’tbother to pick them since they felt theyhad enough in the bag. Few minuteslater, a drunkard on his way from a lo-cal bar passed near the cemetery gateand heard a voice: “One for me, one foru. “One for me, one for u” He immedi-ately sobers up and runs as fast as hecan to the local priest. “Father fatherpls come with me oh!!! Come and wit-ness God & Satan sharing corpse at thecemetery.” They both ran back to thecemetery gate and the voice continued:“One for me, one for u, one for me, onefor you! Suddenly the voice stop count-ing and says: “What about the two atthe gate (refering to the Priest and thedrunkard)?” See the marathon! Even thepriest almost passed the church gate, shouting “we are not dead yet!!!

WHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAIN
What’s the differencebetween whole grainsand refined grains?Any foods made withrice, oats, wheat, cornmeal or cereal, are part of the grains
group. Breads, cereals, oatmeal, pasta, and tortillas are all made from grain prod-ucts. Whole grains contain the entiregrain kernel, the bran (fiber), the germ, the endosperm (the starchy part). Thesewhole grain components are rich in vi-tamins and minerals. Examples of wholegrains include whole wheat flour, oatmeal, and brown rice. Refined grains have beenmilled and processed to give them finertexture and an extended shelf life. How-ever, this process removes much of thefiber as well as many vitamins and min-erals the body needs. Examples of re-fined grains include white flour, whitebread, and white rice. Why are wholegrains better for your health? It has longbeen known that eating whole grains isimportant because whole grains containmostly fiber, an important element in di-gestive health. Fiber has important vita-mins and minerals. It also helps with con-stipation, bloating, some bowel diseases, and contains plant antioxidants. Recently, studies have shown that eating morewhole grains may help with loweringcholesterol, maintaining insulin control, slowing plaque build-up in arteries, man-aging weight, and some cancers. How doI get more whole grains in my diet? Thedietary guidelines recommend increasingwhole grains by choosing whole grainbreads, bran cereals, whole wheat pastaand brown rice. The American Academyof Nutrition and Dietetics recommendsat least three servings of whole grainsevery day. Be sure to check the foodlabel and ingredients. Choose foods thatname one of the following ingredients firston the ingredient list: whole wheat, brownrice, oatmeal, whole cornmeal, crackedwheat, graham flour, whole barley, andwhole rye.

MISTAKES ARE PART OF DESTINYMISTAKES ARE PART OF DESTINYMISTAKES ARE PART OF DESTINYMISTAKES ARE PART OF DESTINYMISTAKES ARE PART OF DESTINYContinued from Page 25 By: Dr. Harun Yahya / Ankara, Turkey - Submitted by: Sis. Ebru / Turkey
Allah revealed in the Qur’an assuch:“Everything they did is inthe Books. Everything is re-corded, big or small. (Surat al-Qamar, 52-53) It is impossibleto claim that a person willnever make any mistakesthroughout his life and is com-plete and flawless because hu-man beings are created asweak creatures who can makemistakes. Our Almighty Lordis the One Who is forgivingand accepts repentance. There-fore, a believer needs to takelessons from the mistakes hemade knowingly or unknow-ingly or because he followedhis inner self. What he needsto do is to regret it and followthe truth and submit to ourLord and strive not to repeatthat mistake. Of course heneeds to be very careful aboutnot making any mistakes andcommit any further sins andprotecting the boundaries of
our Lord. But even if he makesa mistake it is a very goodquality of faith to ask for for-giveness from Allah. Thenames of Allah as “The Accep-tor of Repentance” (At-Tawwab), “The All-Forgiving”(Al-Ghaffar), “The All-Merci-ful” (Ar-Rahman) are mani-fested on the believers who re-gret their mistakes, ask for for-giveness and turn to Allah.Believers Take LessonsFrom Their Mistakes - As aresult of their faith and fear ofAllah, mistakes help believersbecome more clean morally.Maybe they make a mistake onone thing, but they rememberthat mistake all their lives andavoid making a similar mistakeby taking lessons from it.However, Allah created humanbeings especially in a charac-ter so that they can use theirconscience, feel regret and re-pent, turn to Him and ask for
His forgiveness and take deci-sions not to repeat that mis-take. A person must do all hecan not to make a mistake; andstrive to act in a very moralway by using his mind, willand conscience to the end. Butwhen there is a mistake, heneeds to act in the way as de-scribed in the Qur’an. If thatmistake has helped the personto better understand his weak-ness in the face of Allah’s infi-nite power and his need forAllah, then this shows thatperson’s sincere faith and fearof Allah. If he regrets his mis-take and fears to be held re-sponsible in the Day of Judg-ment, and if he submits toAllah’s mercy and forgiveness, then he is abiding by the moralvalues of the Qur’an by Allah’sleave. Such a person prays sin-cerely so Allah accepts his re-pentance and forgives him. Hepromises to Allah with a true
heart not to repeat that mis-take. In one verse, our Lordheralds that He will accept therepentance of his sincere ser-vants: “But if anyone makesrepentance after his wrongdo-ing and puts things right, Allahwill turn towards him. Allah isEver-Forgiving, Most Merci-ful.” (Surat al-Ma’ida, 39) TheQur’an is the only measure forbelievers, so their approach toa person who makes a mistakeis always in line with the moralvalues of the Qur’an. A believerknows that every person is ahuman being who is weak andwho can make a mistake eas-ily. He does not forget that Al-lah is the One Who createseverything –by Allah’s leave-and he can distinguish a sin-cere mistake from a deliberateone. When a person is sincere, his love or respect would notchange because of a singlemistake - by Allah’s leave.

We make many excuses fornot praying and rememberingour Lord and in so doing in-stead of obeying our Lord andbeing grateful to Him, we endup sinning our souls by obey-ing and being deceived by Sa-tan our sworn enemy whosegoal is to lead us into Hell,(Allah forbid). Let us use ourgood health and our free timein seeking the pleasure of Al-lah SWT by remembering Himin prayer 5 times a day as wellas in extra our extra prayers.Remember, whatever we mayneed help with in life, let uscall on Allah God Almightyfirst, as no one else can helpus but Him. Allah SWT said inthe Quran, more or less, “Callon me and I shall answer yourprayer”. mighty for His help and He willsurely help you in your timeof need, as He does now.Sometimes the help or the an-swer to our prayer may notcome right away or may notalways come the way we ex-pect it to, but rest assured,Allah SWT knows what is bestfor us and He will always helpus in the right way and at theright time. But it would reallyhelp if we had a strong con-nection with Him, thru ourdaily worship to Him. Let usalso spend more time recitingor reading the Quran moreoften; if you can’t recite theArabic then contact your lo-cal Masjid and Imam and tryto learn the Arabic. Eitherway, we need to read the En-glish meaning and ask AllahSWT to open our hearts andguide us to understand andimplement the meaning of theQuran in our lives. Read it for
at least 15-20 minutes a dayor more, I guarantee you willsee marked changes in yourlife with the mercy of AllahSWT. Let us fast as many daysas we can, as PBUH did inShaban, this will help us pre-pare for fasting in Ramadhan.Let us repent to our Lord dailywhile we can (now in Shaban)for all the sins that we havecommitted knowingly or un-knowingly. This way, with themercy of Allah we can beginthe blessed month ofRamadhan with a clean recordand begin accumulating bless-ings from day one. Let us readbooks on the life and teach-ings of our mentor ProphetMuhammad PBUH, learnabout his life and how he andhis noble companions lived andlet us try to be like them. Ingeneral, let us try to alwaysbe in the remembrance of ourLord and Creator Allah SWT.
Remember Allah SWT says inchapter 2 verse 152: “Remem-ber Me and I will rememberyou, and be grateful to Me formy countless favors, andnever be ungrateful to Me”.Also, let us seize the opportu-nity to tell our friends and co-workers and others about whywe fast and the significanceof Ramadhan. Let us try to goto the Masjid for the obliga-tory prayers especially inRamadhan, let us stay for theTaraweeh prayer and listen tothe Quran being recited nightly, also listen to any lectures be-ing offered. Let us listen toQuran and Islamic lectures onCDs in our cars on our wayto work and also in ourhomes. Let us get some Is-lamic lectures and encourageour families to listen to theadvice and commands of GodAlmighty and His Messenger.

Once a year, our church is transformedinto a Sacred Art Gallery, as pieces fromher class, art from members of our con-gregation, and wonderful treasures fromthe children in our Center grace our Sa-cred Space. It is a wonderful thing to see! This year, after the glorious viewing wasdrawing to a close, someone approachedour beloved artist and congratulated heron a wonderful exhibit. However, she didnot end there. She than stated, "What a
WONDERFUL MINISTRY you offer herein our church." Gin was clearly touchedby her remark, and than after brief pauseshared this story: She told of how recentlya woman entered her class who had beenvery ill, and whose hands trembled. Sherecently completed a work of art, and intears approached Gin to thank her andshare that for quite some time now shehad not felt as "whole" as she did work-ing on and completing this piece of art.
Had she reconnected? Pablo Picasso onceshared, The purpose of Art is washing thedust of daily life off our souls." We thankyou Gin and we celebrate your wonder-ful ministry at our church. As we all con-tinue our journeys here on this earth, maywe encounter wonderful "ministries" thatcan afford us opportunities to continuesuch Sacred Interpretation andReconnection.

DIVORCEDIVORCEDIVORCEDIVORCEDIVORCE
Divorces are on the rise and we see it every-where. My country, where we were onceproud of low divorce rate, has seen expo-nential rise in marriage breakups for varietyof reasons and in almost all social classes. Sowe can say with some degree of certainty
that it is not a class issue. It is happening all around us with almostsimilar frequency. There are many reasons but most commonlycited ones are financial issues, in-laws problems, domestic unrest, abuse, infidelity, general dislike and lack of respect. The end of amarriage for any reason is a social and emotional setback for mostpeople. It is the end of a journey that had been initiated with faith, dreams, love and more. But divorce is not always wrong or bad. Insome cases, it is important and even necessary for survival. So Iwill never want anyone to make a sweeping judgment that all mar-riages can be saved or a divorce could have been avoided. I havepersonally met people whose divorce saved their lives because theywere married to semi-psychopaths. However regardless of why itends or how important it was to end the marriage, most will mourna divorce because it brings an end to a life that could have been.Girls usually go through a period of mourning and self-pity fol-lowed by hope if parents are supportive and may eventually end upwith better partners too if they seek to remarry. It’s not impossibleand it is actually happening far more frequently than you mightthink. But in such cases, and for things to turn out positive for thegirls, it is essential that they have a strong support system. Whilemen of all ages would be encouraged to remarry, girls are usuallynot actively encouraged unless they have highly supportive parentsand relatives who wish to see them happy again. It is importantthat girls be encouraged to remarry, find good partners but whilethey do this, allow them to first seek their own identity, have afinancial ground to stand on and take it from there. It is not right torush them into another marriage with just about anyone because noone would want to go through divorce yet one more time. In caseof divorce then, let girls go through the period of mourning.

Question: Question: Question: Question: Question: When is Layla-tul-Qadr / The Night of Power
and what should we do?
Answer:Answer:Answer:Answer:Answer: Allaah describes the “Night of Power’ as better
than a thousand months. Angel Jibraeel and the angels descendtherein, by Allaah’s permission according to Ch. 97 of the HolyQur’aan..The Night of Power or Destiny is an extremely im-portant night for Muslims. It is the night in which the HolyQur’aan, was revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW.The Qu’raan was revealed in Ramadhaan accroding to Chapter2 V:185 and Chapter 97. Because the Night of Power is such aspecial night, many Muslims who want to gain extra blessings, spend the night by praying, supplicating and reading the Qur’aanetc., either in their privacy or in a mosque with other Muslims. There are also some Muslims who retreat/i’tikaaf in a mosquefor the last ten days of Ramadhaan, which has been a strongpractice of the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW. Aisha R.A.,may Allaah be pleased with her, reported that the Prophet SAWsaid: Look for Laylatul Qadr on an odd-numbered night duringthe last ten nights of Ramadhaan (Bukhaari). The Prophet said:“Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hopingfor its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Bukhariand Muslim). We should try and make time to do extra ibaadat/worship inRamaadhaan, while fasting and on the Night of Power InshaaAllaah. Effort should be made to do I’tikaaf if possible; weshould use every opportunity to make dua/ supplicate to Allaah;we should not forget to remember the dua given to Aisha R.A.by the Holy Prophet SAW, (Aisha R.A., may Allaah be pleasedwith her, said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger ofAllaah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should Isay during it?’ He said: ‘Say: O Allaah, You are Most Generousin pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me/“Allahummainnaka `afuwwun kareem tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee)”Last but not least, extra effort should be made to read, studyand ponder over the verses of the Holy Qur’aan. Ramadhaan,is the month in which the Qur’aan was revealed as a GUIDETO HUMAN BEINGS, therefore, in addition to reading and lis-tening to the Qur’aan in Ramadhaan and the Night of Power,Allaah expects us to make the sincere intention and effort tochange our attitude, manners and lifestyle for better accordingto the Qur’aan and Sunnah Inshaa Allaah.

Therefore, if you have the resources and the health to performHajj, then you should not procrastinate to do so. Going backto the unpredictability of life and death discussed earlier, it iscrucial to realize that to die without performing Hajj, when youhad the ability to do so (according to the Hadith) is like dyingas a “Jew or Christian”. This is not meant as an insult to eitherreligion, but rather a point to be made that although Jews, Chris-tians, and Muslims are all People of the Book, and all techni-cally perform the first four pillars of Islam, Muslims are theonly people Allah SWT commanded to perform Hajj, as a re-quirement of their religion. For this reason, do not simply makethe intention to perform Hajj in your lifetime, but rather make ita priority because there is a chance you could fall ill, lose yourwealth, or have some other difficulty in the future which pre-vents you to go. Lastly, in the world today Islam is beingattacked from many angles. It is our responsibility as Muslims, more than ever, to spread the proper message of Islam to oth-ers who are misguided about Islam’s true message. In theHoly Quran (5:67), Allah tells the Prophet SAW, “O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people.” As Muslims, wecannot be afraid to speak up against evil in the world. In thelast sermon of Prophet Muhammad SAW, he states, “Be mywitness, O ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to yourpeople”. Granted that Prophet Muhammad SAW is the mostexcellent example we have of good character and righteousdeeds, we should all strive to make it our duty to spread themessage of Islam, just like our beloved Prophet SAW did. As-suredly, by taking on this responsibility, the popularity and spreadevil messages will cease. As Muslims, it is essential that weremain steadfast in fulfilling our duties to Allah SWT. Thisincludes performing good and righteous deeds as well as com-pleting the five pillars that have been ordained to us. Only thencan we expect to receive the mercy and blessings of Allah SWTand obtain true success, both in this world and in the hereafter,InshaAllah, Ameen.

My friends, this time is tooprecious to waste, we couldbe gaining so many blessingsby just making a greater ef-fort to gain knowledge and domore good deeds. Remember, this is a progressive way oflife, if you think you are doingall of the above or some ofthese good deeds now…thentry to do more, keep raisingthe bar, we can never have toomany blessings, we will needas much as we can get to wipeout the many sins we commitknowingly, and unknowingly,in the past, present and future.Allah SWT continuouslyshowers us with His manyfavors, to show our gratitude,we should continue to givemore in His way and for Hispleasure. Unfortunately manyfolks may not realize the truevalue of good health and thevalue of our spare time untilit’s too late to use it; when weget sick or old and lose ourgood health or when we gettoo busy and have no sparetime. Sometimes busyness isa test from Allah SWT, wemay be rushing around alwaysbusy, with work, busy withchores, busy with our kids, busy with everything else ex-cept busy making time to prayto our Lord and Creator 5times a day as He ordered usto. Let us make a better effortto manage our time more effi-ciently not just for all theseworldly things but also so thatwe can devote more time topraying to and thanking ourLord God Almighty for all thefavors and bounties he blessesus with daily…thankfullywe’re alive, we can see, wecan hear and talk and feel andtaste and walk etc.. Remem-
ber, Allah is not in need of ourprayers and thanks, we are theones that need to show ourlove, gratitude and servitude toHim. My friends, sooner orlater we will all die and leavethis world, our time for usingour good health and our freetime will be over, it will be toolate for tears. As the Prophet’scompanion Omar R.A said:“Hold yourselves accountablebefore you are held account-able and weigh your deedsbefore they are weighed foryou”. Great words of wisdomfor us all. Also, the nobleProphet PBUH said: Take ad-vantage of 5 things before 5others happen: 1) Take advan-tage of your youth before yougrow old. 2) Take advantageof your health before you fallsick. 3) Take advantage ofyour wealth or money beforeyou become poor. 4) Takeadvantage of your spare timebefore you become busy.5) Take advantage of your lifebefore you die. Let us ponderand then act on this great ad-vice from the wisest man toever walk this earth,Muhammad SAW.
May Allah SWT grant usall the life, health andmotivation to meet and
observe the blessed monthof Ramadhan in the best
manner, may He guide usto do more good deeds
and to utilize the bountiesand favors that He hasblessed us with to gainfrom all His blessings,
mercies, forgiveness andsalvation available in the
blessed month ofRamadhan and beyond,
Ameen.

Note: wheat flour, enrichedflour, and degerminated cornmeal are not whole grains. Theword “whole” is what youwant to look for on the foodlabel. It means the bread wasmade using the entire kernel, which offers the most nutri-tional value. Where can I getmore information? It is important for them to getthis out of their system be-cause that is natural grievingresponse. Once they have ac-cepted it, let them build a lifefor themselves through edu-cational and work. It may takefew years but it is for their owngood. During this period, ifthey find someone nice, by allmeans encourage them to ex-plore the opportunity but if not,do not push them into marry-ing just about anyone becauseif they go ahead and marrywithout any solid education orfinancial support, they are verylikely to end up feeling infe-rior and inadequate. This canlead to trouble in marriagewhich is certainly not desir-able a second time. Pray, prayand pray some more. Nothingworks better than prayers. Noamount of education, financialsupport, effort or backgroundcheck on the prospectivegroom will yield better resultsthan when all of these arecombined with duaa. It workswonders and when combinedwith physical efforts on yourpart, it can produce somemagical results. I am a bigbeliever in human effort but Ihave seen and experienced thesheer magic of hard workwhen it was combined withduaa because duaa brings thatadditional x-factor to it thatsheer human effort cannot. Sopray for the girl, encourage herto pray for her brighter futureand then make all the effort re-quired on your part. The re-sults will most definitely sur-pass your expectations. Iknow a young girl who gotmarried to the wrong man, came back to parents house
in three months, found herselfpregnant, gave birth to a boy,got divorced, all of this withinone year of marriage. She wasdepressed, but prayed a lot.Had a very strong support sys-tem. Luckily found a guy insimilar situation after twoyears. Got married to him andthey have now been marriedfor ten lovely years. It’s abeautiful union and she saysnothing would have changedher life had she not believed inpower of duaa. So by allmeans find solace in remem-brance of Allah for He alonecan change your life and putall your worries to rest.
