RECITATION (83 - 85)
83: And when they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing
with tears because of what they have recognized of the truth…..
The fact is that the more a person listens to the truth attentively, to the speech of Allah, to the word of
Allah, the more he is affected by it. The deeper it penetrates into his heart and so his eyes also swell up
with tears.
….They say: هدين ـ They say, "Our Lord, we have believed, so ..… ربنا ءامنا فٱكتبنا مع ٱلش
register us among the witnesses.”
Immediately upon hearing the Quran they say يارب we believe; they listen to the Quran, they believe in
it, they act upon it.
ل :84 ـ وما جاءنا من ٱلحق ونطمع أن يدخلنا ربنا مع ٱلقوم ٱلص حين وما لنا ل نؤمن بٱهلل
And why should we not believe in Allah and what has come to us of the truth? And we aspire that
our Lord will admit us [to Paradise] with the righteous people."

The more a person desires hopes and wishes to be of the righteous, of those who are beloved to Allah,
the more attentively and seriously will he listen to the speech of Allah, the كالم of Allah, with greater
love with greater interest and with full regard and also contemplation so that more and more avenues of
good works open up to him so that he can mould his life according to what pleases Allah عزوجل. So
over here we see that there are some people, when they listen to the Quran they say ‘Why should we not
believe?’ They believe. Listening to the Quran increases them in faith and what is their hope? That they
should be amongst the righteous! They should be amongst the .(the righteous people)القوم الصالحين
ت :85 ـ بما قالوا جن بهم ٱهلل ـ So Allah rewarded them for what they said with gardens [in.... فأث
Paradise] beneath which rivers flow….
لدين فيہا ـ ر خ ـ جزاء ٱلمحسنين تجرى من تحتها ٱلنه beneath which rivers flow .... وذلل
wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of doers of good.
تنا :86 ـ بوا بـ اي But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs - they .... وٱلذين كفروا وڪذ
are the companions of Hellfire.
We see over here that the words, the speech of a person they can take him either to جنة or they can take
him to hell fire. Good speech is something that is beloved to Allah سبحانه و تعالى and it also brings
Allah’s Forgiveness. Because here we see بهم ـ بما قالوا فأث ٱهلل , Allah rewarded them, Allah will reward
them. Why? Because of what they said, because of their words! So there are some people who are being
rewarded heavily. Why? Because of the words that they have uttered and at the same time there are
some other people who will be punished, why? Because of the words that they have said! So we see that
good speech, correct speech saying the truth, speaking the truth is something that is beloved to Allah
.سبحانه و تعالى
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that of the things that make Allah’s Forgiveness واجب. What does واجب mean?
Mandatory! That it necessitates that Allah’s Forgiveness must come upon a person. So:
“Of the things that make Allah’s Forgiveness واجب are saying the سالم as well as speaking good
speech.”
Two things definitely bring Allah’s Forgiveness. First of all greeting others with Salam and secondly
good speech!
The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was also asked that what is it that makes واجب جنة? What is it that makes paradise
obligatory? And he said:
ب حسن الكالم وبذل الطعام علي You must adhere to good speech and also feeding others.
Meaning as long as you do this, in sha’Allah جن ة is promised to you. Now this seems very simple, that
it's such an easy way to get to جن ة, just speak well. But in reality speaking good requires a lot of
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 3
determination. It requires a lot of patience. It requires a lot of positivity. It requires a lot of big
heartedness because generally what happens, our speech is instantly affected by our thoughts, our mental
state. So if in our hearts we are angry, we are irritated, in our mind we're thinking negatively about
other people than what is going to happen? Naturally negative speech is going to come out of our
mouths. But if we are being patient and tolerant then of course we can speak good words. What happens
is that we try to control the environment that is around us, which is not possible. What we can do is
control the state of our heart and that is called صبر and when a person controls the state of his heart only
then can his speech also change.
Now we see that fasting in the month of Ramadan and also outside of Ramadan, fasting -it is all about
controlling oneself. It's all about controlling one's impulses natural desires. That as soon as you want to
eat something you don't eat it, you want to drink a sip but you don't drink it. The water is in your mouth
because you're doing وضو, you could easily take a drop or two inside. But what do you do? You resist.
You stop yourself. This is exactly what it means to fast because fasting is about controlling oneself and
likewise when it comes to speech what does fasting teach us? That we do not allow our speech to be
affected by what is going on around us!
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:
‘‘In Paradise, there are rooms; or houses whose inside can be seen from the outside and the outside can
be seen from the inside’’.
Now this may seem like very normal to us but have you ever been to an apartment building or a very
nice hotel room that you paid heavy money for. But then what happens, you open up the shutters and
what do you see, another building staring at you, so there's no beautiful view. There's no good view but
in جنة the houses are such that the outside, meaning what is outside gardens and gardens they can be
seen from the inside and vice versa also.
So when the prophet of Allah described these places to a Bedouin man, he said يا رسول هللا ‘Who are
these for? Who is going to get it?’ As if somebody is offering some real estate for free so immediately
you ask, what's the price? How much is it for? So this man said who's going to go there.
And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
‘‘for the one who speaks clean!’’
Clean words, clean speech, طيب كالم!
also means that which is clean and pure, so clean pure طيب is not just good, you know the طيب كالم
speech because sometimes we can speak in a very good way, in a very nice way. But the words if
they're analyzed they're not clean. The one who speaks good words; clean words;
“….. who feeds others and prays in the night when people are asleep”
This is the person who will be granted this reward in جنة. So we see over here that these people when
they heard the Quran what did they say? They said good words. What were those good words?
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 4
.…Our Lord, we have believed.… ربنا ءامنا ..…
And remember that the best speech is of the one who calls people to Allah, the best speech is of the one
who declares his faith in Allah, calling people to Allah. Because in Surah فصلت Allah says:
ا وقال إننى من ٱلمسلمين لح ـ وعمل ص ن دعا إلى ٱهلل م م ومن أحسن قول
Who is better in speech than the one who calls people to Allah and he does good deeds himself and he
says that I am of those who submit.
So the one thing that is mentioned over here is بما قالوا , Their words were good, their words were
excellent. Allah loves their words and here we need to see the words that we say are they also beloved
to Allah? Are they also liked by Allah? And secondly we see that in their duas what are they
expressing? Their desire for righteous company!
هدين “ ـ لحين “ and ”فٱكتبنا مع ٱلش ـ ”مع ٱلقوم ٱلص
So we see that they desired righteous company because if we sit amongst righteous people then what
will happen? Our ايمان will be refreshed, it will be re-energized and what will happen? We will develop
the ability to Insha’Allah be patient, more tolerant, more controlling of our tongue and naturally we will
be able to say good word also but when we sit amongst different people then what happens? We become
like them. If we sit in the company of those people who talk negatively about the دين of Allah who do
not like Ramadan, Ramadan is not even here and they say we don't like Ramadan. Then what is going to
happen? This speech is going to affect us and the next thing we know the same kind of words are going
to come from our mouth also. So we see that these people wanted good words they said good words and
they wanted good company so Allah promises them جنة, why? Because in جنة are both of these things
good company as well as good speech. So much so that “ ل تسمع فيها لغية” you will not hear in جنة
any annoying disturbing extra noise / sound. This is how beautiful جنة is. So this is what these people
will get.
أيہا ٱلذين ءامنوا :87 ـ O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah.… ي
has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like the transgressors.
88: And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good….
For speech select the best; for food also select the best!
.…And fear Allah…. ٱلذى أنتم بهۦ مؤمنون وٱتقوا هلل .... Fear Allah, in whom you are believers.
If you believe in Allah then why don't you fear Him? We see that the blessings that Allah سبحانه و تعالى
has given to His servants in this world like food drink etc, if a person acquires them lawfully and enjoys
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 5
them then there's absolutely no harm in that. Why? Because he's doing that with the fear of Allah, in the
way that he acquired it he feared Allah, in the way that he used it he feared Allah.
89: Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will
impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding
of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them
or the freeing of a slave.
This is the ارةكف for what? For the words that a person had uttered, for the oath that he took and then he
broke! This is how serious a person has to be about his speech because the effects are very, very serious
near Allah سبحانه و تعالى, that if a person just says وهلل and he intended at that time “By Allah”. “ وهلل”
how many words are these? Just two و and اسم جالله, two words! If a person has said it and then he goes
contrary to it, he acts contrary to it, then there is an expiation, he has to pay a fine. There are
ramifications. So what do we see that a person must be very, very careful about the words that he
utters! If these are the ramifications in this world then imagine the words that we say which are so heavy
on other people. What would be the ramifications of those words in the Hereafter?
.…But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the
expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths…..
Meaning when you have said something then adhere to it.
….Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be grateful.
90: O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to
other than Allah], and divining arrows are all but defilement from the work of Satan….
These are all dirty things filthy things works of شيطان. So what should you do?
….You should avoid it…. Why? ….So that you may be successful
Why? Because all of these things that are mentioned over here, what do they take a person to? Loss and
failure, harm and destruction in this life and in the next! Even though at the beginning over here
temporarily there is some temporary benefit, there is some temporary enjoyment. When a person drinks
alcohol or when a person has some حرام substance that will intoxicate him then at that time yes there is
some fun, there is some enjoyment, there is some pleasure but in the long run there is only destruction.
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
اجتنبوا الخمر فإنها مفتاح كل شر Keep away from خمر keep away from intoxicants, …..Why? …. “For it is the key to every evil”
It is the key to every evil. It will not take you to good. It will definitely take you to what is evil for you
in this life and in the next. Another thing that's mentioned over here is gambling which is a very quick
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 6
and easy way of earning money. How? By just playing a game! Now at that time again it seems like
fun. However in the long run it is a cause of great harm for a person. And thirdly what is mentioned
over here is sacrificing on stone alters meaning to other than Allah and then divining arrows also, all of
these works are what? They are from شيطان. So O believers you avoid it. Why? Because…
.…only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred شيطان :91
He wants that when you will indulge in these things what will happen to you? You will develop
animosity and hatred for each other.
So:
..…wants animosity and hatred among you شيطان
How?
….through intoxicants and gambling…..
Because these things, when a person indulges in them then do people increase in their love for one
another? Never! They will never grow in their love for each other. What will happen is that they will
grow apart from each other. Why? Because these things damage relationships! Yes it is portrayed in a
very glorified way on T.V. But that is not how reality is. Gambling, it may seem like a lot of fun but
then what happens when a person loses five thousand dollars? What happens when a person loses ten
thousand dollars, twenty thousand dollars, hundred thousand dollars? Will it make him love the person
who defeated him? Not at all! This is why we see that when it comes to gambling and such things the
crime rate is also very high. Why do you think there's so much security around such places or in such
places? Why or why is it that such people who do play such games, they're always concerned they're
always afraid. Why? Because when you indulge in these games you make more enemies than you make
friends. Even people who are closest to you, your own family members, spouse, children, siblings,
parents even they distance away from a person. So these things are dirty, they are filthy.
O believers keep away from them. This is going to ruin your relationships.
And one more thing that it's going to do is that:
..…wants to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer شيطان..…
When you indulge in this what will happen? You will not be able to remember Allah and you will not
be able to pray because what happens is that when a person gets caught up in the cycle of drinking, of
getting drunk, of playing such games; then what will happen? It will make him fall short in Allah’s right
also, in Allah’s duties also.
So:
نتہون ?So, O believers will you not stop… فهل أنتم م
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 7
Will you stop already? Meaning stop! There are some people who when they hear the حق, their eyes
swell with tears. They cry. Why? Because they have recognized the truth, it has penetrated deep into
their hearts. And then there are some other people who hear such verses and they say, but Allah has not
used the word حرام, Allah has not used the word حرام over here. What's the difference? The difference
is that one person believes in Allah, he has fear of Allah, he loves Allah, he recognizes who Allah is and
the other person does not.
سول :92 وأطيعوا ٱلر .And obey Allah and obey the Messenger and beware.... وأطيعوا ٱهلل
And if you turn away - then know that upon Our Messenger is only [the responsibility for] clear
notification.
The responsibility of change is upon you and the messenger has fulfilled his responsibility by conveying
to you.
93: There is not upon those who believe and do righteousness [any] blame concerning what they
have eaten [in the past]…
Meaning if a mistake like this has happened in the past a person earned money through gambling, a
person ate some food that was حرام, a person had a drink that was unlawful in the past out of ignorance,
Allah says, there is no harm as long as
….If they [now] fear Allah and believe and do righteous deeds….
Meaning what matters is that after you have come to know then what do you do? Do you bring the
change in yourself or no?
….And then fear Allah and believe, and then fear Allah and do good; and Allah loves the doers of
good…..
Who are the محسنين, whom Allah loves? Those who surrender to Allah’s commands, that what Allah
has instructed them, they do it and the person who does not respond to Allah’s call, then he is in grave
danger.
The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“Whoever leaves one صالة due to intoxication….”
And notice the word is intoxication which is the state of intoxication, which is not just the effect of
consuming alcohol. It can also be the effect of other things, so the person who leave just one صالة;
why? Because of intoxication or whatever the cause maybe, even once…
“….then it is as if he had the whole world and everything in it and it was then taken away from him.”
Imagine this loss!
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 8
“And he who leaves the صالة four times due to intoxication than it is Allah’s right to make him drink
from “طينة الخبال”.
He was asked what is “طينة الخبال” and he said:
“The عصارة of the people of Hell.”
The excretions, the bodily excretions, the puss and the blood of the people of hell that is what he will be
given to drink and it is Allah’s right to do that. Allah has all the right to do that. This is why we have to
avoid such addictions and save others from it also. Because we might say that oh no, no, no I don't drink
alcohol Alhamdulillah, I don't do any substance abuse. Is that what it's called drug abuse and all that,
right? I don't do anything like that. But notice صالة is being missed because of what? The effects of
intoxication and sometimes what happens we're not addicted to a bottle. We're not addicted to smoking.
Perhaps we're addicted to watching television or our phones or talking or just having fun and because of
that addiction what happens? We are leaving one prayer after another. We are deliberately leaving it.
The phone is telling us عصر time. But then what happens we close the app, we ignore the alert and we
go on doing what we have to do and the next thing we know it is time for مغرب. This is a serious matter
because this is Shaitan’s goal to prevent us from remembering Allah, to prevent us from prayer. So any
tool that شيطان uses to prevent us from prayer whether it is alcohol or some other form of addiction then
that is something that we must avoid.
Then we also learned in the حديث that:
“If a person tells his friend come and let me play for money with you.”
Come let us gamble, let’s have a game and then let's see who wins money.
“Then he should give something in charity”
Meaning the one who even called to gambling, then he has committed a sin, then what is he supposed to
do? Give something in charity to wipe off the effect of that sin. Again you see over here this is the
result of what? Of speaking certain words! Allah loves the speech of the one who calls others to Allah
and here the person who calls others to disobedience to Allah then he is committing a sin for which the
Prophet SAW said that a person must give صدقة. And the Prophet SAW also advised women especially
that they should give in charity. Why? Because of their frequent cursing and because of their
ingratitude! Frequent cursing, you might find this strange but think about it if you compare your mother
and father or those who are married, just compare yourself with your husband, who yells at the children
more? You know the answer!
أيہا ٱلذين ءامنوا :94 ـ O you who have believed, Allah will surely test you through something.... ي
of the game that your hands and spears [can] reach, that Allah may make evident those who fear
Him in the unseen. And whoever transgresses after that - for him is a painful punishment.”

95: O you who have believed, do not kill game while you are in the state of حراما ….
Meaning, do not hunt while you are in the state of احرام.
….And whoever of you kills it intentionally - the penalty is an equivalent from sacrificial animals
to what he killed, as judged by two just men among you as an offering [to Allah] delivered to the
.…or an expiation ,كعبة
And what is that expiation?
….The feeding of needy people or the equivalent of that in fasting, that he may taste the
consequence of his deed….
This fine against for what..? The consequence of his deed! Our words, our actions they do have effects.
What happens is that we say things and we forget them, we do them and we forget them and we forget
that they have forever been recorded and written and if we do not do something to have them wiped off
then on the Day of Judgment we will have to face them.
…Allah has pardoned what is past; but whoever returns [to violation], then Allah will take
retribution from him. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution…..
ذو ٱنتقام عزيز وٱهلل
96: Lawful to you is game from the sea and its food as provision for you and the travelers, but
forbidden to you is game from the land as long as you are in the state of احرام. And fear Allah to
whom you will be gathered.
It's the fear of Allah that can really prevent a person from sin.
ٱلذى إليه تحشرون You have to answer Him. You have to go back to Him. There's no .… وٱتقوا ٱهلل
running away from Allah and He hears what you say. He sees what you do. So fear Him and leave
disobedience out of His fear.
97: Allah has made the كعبة, the Sacred House, standing for the people and [has sanctified] the
sacred months and the sacrificial animals and the garlands [by which they are identified]. That is
so you may know that Allah knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth and that Allah
is Knowing of all things.”

When Allah سبحانه و تعالى has made certain things; certain places, certain times sacred, what does that
show? That yes Allah has given us free will over here but we are not free, ultimately free in this world.
No we have to abide by certain laws, by certain rules. We have to respect them. Why? Because…
ح :98 غفور ر شديد ٱلعقاب وأن ٱهلل يم ٱعلموا أن ٱهلل .…Know that Allah is severe in penalty
and that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
He punishes and He forgives. Who is it that He punishes? Those who persist on sin, those who
knowingly, deliberately, consciously disobey Him, who have had many chances but still they keep going
back to their wrong ways. And who is it that Allah is forgiving to? Those who when they do make a
mistake, what do they do? They beg Allah for forgiveness, therefore one should never continue to
persist on sin and we should fear Allah سبحانه و تعالى even when we are alone. Why? Because when we
will develop this fear of Allah even when we are alone, only then we can make ourselves to remain
obedient to Allah. Otherwise what will happen? Where there are certain people, where the environment
is feasible then yes we will be very obedient and compliant. But where we are alone then what will
happen? Obedience to Allah will also disappear.
The Prophets ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“Allah is pleased with the shepherd of goats, who calls to prayer at the peak of a mountain and offers
prayer.”
He's all alone with who? With just his animals! There's not even a single human being around him far
off in the distance even, there's nobody. Such that he did not even hear the اذان so he’s all alone and
what does he do when the time of prayer comes in? He says OK it's time to pray, nobody's
around, never mind, I'll give the اذان myself and then he prays صالة himself.
Allah سبحانه و تعالى says look at this servant of mine. He calls to prayer and offers it. Why? Because he
fears me! The only thing that made him do that is what..? The fear of Allah, because he's not being paid,
he's not going to be paid if he prays and he's not going to be fined if he does not pray. Why is he
praying over there when nobody's watching him? Allah is watching him still. He is doing it out of his
fear. Allah says “So I forgive him and I admit him to paradise.”
You see there are many times when there are people who will call us to prayer who will tell us to do
something good. Many times we rely on others. You call me. You invite me. You remind me. You
wake me up. You tell me to go sit in the Quran class. We're waiting, we're depending on others. What
does that show? That we lack fear of Allah, we lack the desire to please Allah, because when we truly
fear Allah, when we truly fear something and when we truly have a sincere desire to get some benefit,
then we do not need reminders. Then we do not need other people to keep telling us go and sit, go and
listen, go and read, go and pray, go and do this, wake up, already it is getting late. No, the person who
fears Allah, the person who wants Allah’s pleasure even when he is alone in the desert, in a mountain,
what will he do when the time of prayer will come? He will get up himself and decide himself that I
have to pray right now. It doesn't matter what's going on in the world. It's my duty to Allah, it is my step
to draw closer to Allah and such people are the ones who earn Allah’s forgiveness and His جنة.

PART B
AL – MA’IDAH 100 - 120
100: Say, "Not equal are the evil and the good, …..
Evil and good are not the same, they are very different.
Praying and not praying صالة, are they the same? .... Never!
Fasting and not fasting, are they the same? ….. No!
Reciting the Quran ….not reciting the Quran, are they the same? ….. No!
Sitting in a gathering where Allah is being remembered, where the angels are witnessing in sha Allah,
and the Angels are going to go and tell Allah; “Ya Allah! this servant of yours wants your forgiveness,
your جنة, even though she hasn't seen it….” sitting in a gathering like that and not sitting in a gathering
like that, are they the same?.....
Because sometimes what happens, we even make the effort to go to a class like this but then instead of
sitting and benefiting, what do we do? We sit at the back sipping on tea. We sit at the back going
through our phone. Who are we depriving? Who are we cheating? Who are we deceiving? Who are
we playing with? Who are we harming? Who are we causing loss to? Only ourselves!
We are only harming ourselves because the messengers’ job was to convey, now Allah knows what we
are doing and what we are revealing.
Allah tells us; “bad and good are not the same”…. “evil and good are not the same”….
What is dirty and what is clean they are not the same. And remember what we do is what we choose,
what we say is what we choose, what we wear is what we choose. So our choice, what is it that we are
choosing to say, what is it that we are choosing to wear. What is it that we are choosing to do, that is
what we will be questioned about! And Allah gives us a very important criteria over here when you
have to choose between two things, remember that: good and bad are not the same. They are not the
same. There are very very different. So choose that which is good and leave that which is bad.
كثرة الخبيث ..… ..…although the abundance of evil might impress you …… ولو أعجب
Why.… why would it impress you? Because it's so common! Everybody's doing it.
....So fear Allah, O you people of understanding….
If you really have some mind here, if you really use your mind. then fear Allah, so:
…..that you may be successful”.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“O people! Allah is Good and He therefore accepts only that which is good.
Allah is طيب and He accepts only that which is طيب.”
So if we select a bad action to do then is that going to be acceptable to Allah? No way. What is it that
Allah will accept? Good!
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص also said that:
“When any one of you goes to sleep, the شيطان ties three knots at the back of his neck sealing every knot
so that you have a long night of sleep. So if someone wakes up and mentions Allah, a knot will be
opened up. If he performs ablution, two knots are opened up, and if he prays, then three knots are
opened up.”
And in the morning he will be active and in good spirits. Otherwise he will be in bad spirits and sluggish
in the morning. So one is a person who chose طيب; I have to get up now I have to do وضو now, I have
to pray. So what happened? The result was good. And the other person selected خبيث. What was that
خباثة Night is long, let me sleep and then what happened? He will wake up in the state of the ?خبيثalso, in the state of that filth also. So Allah tells us; good and bad are not the same, choose only that
which is good.
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص taught Ali (r.a.) a dua, and this dua is:

عن حرام أللهم اكفني بحالل“O Allah suffice me with your lawful against your unlawful….”
Meaning O Allah the lawful that you have given me, make that enough for me even if it's a little, make
that enough for me, make that sufficient for me so that I have no need, I have no desire no longing to go
to that which is حرام, to go to that which is filthy.
ن سواك عم و أغنني بفضل
“And enrich me with your grace from others besides You”
Meaning grant me provision from your boundless treasures. And it is said, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص told Ali
that if a person has a loan even the size of a mountain….. can you imagine a debt the size of a
mountain….. even that will be given off. Even that will be paid off. Allah will help him pay that off if
a person holds on to this دعا.

So whenever we are in this indecision; should I do this; it's good or should I do this; it's bad, what
should I do? Choose the good or choose the bad…? Make دعا; Ya Allah! make the good enough for
me; make the good enough for me. Lawful earning, lawful food, lawful relationships, lawful words….
because sometimes what happens; we are disciplining our children even and we don't feel satisfied by
telling them something only once in a nice way. We feel like we have to scream at them, we have to be
mad at them, we have to yell at them. No….. O Allah! You make lawful sufficient for me so that I have
no need for anything evil.
O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they ..……يا أيها الذين آمنوا :101
are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed,
they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and
Forbearing.
Again, one must be careful about his speech. Think before asking because sometimes questions are
good but they're absolutely irrelevant, completely irrelevant.
102: A people asked such [questions] before you; then they became thereby disbelievers.
They became because of those questions, what? Disbelievers!
Some words, some form of speech, it can take a person to کفر. Certain questioning, certain objections,
they can take a person, they can lead him to کفر. Therefore we have to be extra, extra careful about our
tongue: what are we saying, what are we expressing, the anger that we are showing, what are we saying
in that, are we saying something that Allah would disapprove of?

105: O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves….
You are responsible for whom? For yourself!
….Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided….
This does not mean that we should not tell other people, we should not be concerned about them. No,
we should be concerned about them but our only worry and concern should not just be the faults and
mistakes and errors of other people. No, we should be even more concerned about who? Ourselves!
This is a human weakness, a very big weakness indeed that when it comes to other peoples faults, we
can see them very easily, very clearly but when it comes to our own faults what happens? We don't
even notice them. Allah says:
….To Allah is you return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do.”
He will inform you of what you used to do…. you will not be questioned about what other people did.
Why? …. “Because for them are their deeds and for you are your deeds”. So what is it that we need to
be concerned about? Our actions, ourselves, our heart, our intentions, our speech…. and the thing is that
when a person rectifies his اخالق, when a person strengthens his ايمان, when a person improves his
relationships or his اخالق, his actions are strong; only then can he tell other people and only then will his
words have any impact.
106: O you who have believed, testimony [should be taken] among you when death approaches
one of you at the time of bequest - [that of] two just men from among you or two others from
outside if you are traveling through the land and the disaster of death should strike you. Detain
them after the prayer and let them both swear by Allah if you doubt [their testimony, saying],
"We will not exchange our oath for a price, even if he should be a near relative, and we will not
withhold the testimony of Allah. Indeed, we would then be of the sinful."
107: “But if it is found that those two were guilty of perjury, let two others stand in their place
[who are] foremost [in claim] from those who have a lawful right. And let them swear by Allah,
"Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed. Indeed, we would
then be of the wrongdoers.”
108: That is more likely that they will give testimony according to its [true] objective, or [at
least] they would fear that [other] oaths might be taken after their oaths. And fear Allah and

disobedient people.
In these آيات basically a certain situation has been explained that if a person is traveling and he has a
significant amount of wealth with him and he doesn't have any relative or any heir with him, then what
should he do? He is at the verge of dying; so what should he do? He should entrust his property with a

will to who? To two people; and those two people, what are they supposed to do? They're supposed to
hand it over to the family. Now if they end up cheating, then what will happen? It is mentioned over
here that basically both will be brought before the judge and both will have to swear oaths, and the
details of this, we don't really need to go into right now but, the lesson we learned here is that Allah
says: ه واسمعوا .… واتقوا اللـ
Fear Allah when you're dealing with people, when you're dealing with other people's properties, when
trusts are given to you, when امانات are given to you. And listen, listen attentively. Why listen
attentively? Because if we have not heard properly what is to be done with someone's property, what
are we going to say? What message are we going to convey?
Think about it; sometimes we are assigned a task, we are assigned a task, instructions are given but what
do we do at that time? We don't listen! When we don't listen properly, we half understand, we miss
understand, then what is it that we relay? What it is that we pass on? What it is that we act upon if we
have not even heard properly? So the first step to guidance is “fear of Allah”.
The second is open up your ears, open up your eyes, listen, pay attention, focus, see what is.… اسمعو
necessary. And those who don't bother, then Allah does not guide them. And with this we begin the
conclusion of Surat-ul-Maidah.

Isa." They said, "We have believed, …..

A scene of the Day of Judgment is described over here. What is that scene? Allah will question who?
Who will he ask? The prophets!!! And amongst them was mentioned Isa (a.s) over here. Isa will be
questioned and before you've asked a question the question has not yet come. Before that what has been
mentioned here, what is it that Allah will ask Isa (a.s.)? “Remember my favors upon you”…. remember
the blessings that I gave to you? Allah will remind Isa (a.s), He will make him recount the blessings that
He gave him in worldly life.
If a messenger of Allah is being reminded of the blessings that Allah gave to him then what about us?
Out of all people, who do you think is most deserving of worldly blessings?? Who?? Out of all people,
it is the righteous, isn’t it?? It is those who are obedient to Allah and amongst them, at the highest level
are who?? The prophets of Allah, they are most deserving. Yet, if Isa (a.s) will be asked, “remember!
When I gave you this favor and this favor and this favor?”….
We too will be questioned about the blessings that Allah has given to us ثم لتسألن يومئذ عن النعيم
here to enjoy. He will ask us about the knowledge that we are learning, about the food that we are
enjoying, about the comfortable houses that we are living in, about the relationships that Allah has
blessed us with, about the beautiful children, about the money that He has given us.
.…… إذ قال الحواريون :112
And Allah will remind Isa (a.s) particularly of one incident and that is:
[And remember] when the disciples said, "O Isa, Son of Maryam, can your Lord send down to us
a table [spread with food] from the heaven? [Isa] said; ه اتقوا اللـ …." Fear Allah, if you should be
believers.
What kind of request are you making? Remember earlier we learned that some people went astray why?
Because of the questions they asked. One question is, “what does this mean” and “why is it like
that”, another kind of question is a request, a demand. So here we see the people of Isa (a.s), the
disciples, what did they say? “Can your Lord send down on us a table spread with food from the sky?”
What was Isa (a.s)’s response? “Fear Allah if you should be believers”.
113: They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured and know that you have
been truthful to us and be among its witnesses.

Meaning we have very good intentions. We don't mean to criticize, we don't mean to demand anything
from you so that you prove your truthfulness to us, we already believe in you. We have very good
sincere intentions. All we want is to celebrate and enjoy some good food.
Said Isa (a.s.), the son of Maryam, (he made dua) "O Allah, our“ .… قال عيسى ابن مريم :114
Lord, send down to us a table-spread [with food] from the heaven to be for us a festival for the
first of us and the last of us….
Send down this food so that the day it comes we can take that day as a day of celebration. We will
celebrate that day and the people later also will celebrate on that day.
…..and we will also take it as a sign from you….
a miracle, a special gift.
…. “And provide for us, and You are the best of providers."
115: Allah said; "Indeed, I will send it down to you, but whoever disbelieves afterwards from
among you - then indeed I will punish him with a punishment by which I have not punished
anyone among the worlds.”
Why? Because those people who are blessed with more blessings, then they have a heavier obligation
also. Those people who are blessed with greater blessings, bigger blessings, more blessings, specially
the blessing of ہداية , some special gifts that come from Allah, then they have a heavier obligation and
therefore the حساب will also be greater and tougher.
The حساب will be greater also for who? For those who have been blessed more. This is why we see that
on the Day of Judgment, people who were tortured severely in the earth but they were patient, on the
Day of Judgment when the rest of mankind will see the high levels of their reward, the easy حساب that
they're getting, the rest of the people will wish that they had been tortured even more severely in the life
of the world. Why? Because they will see that those who had less blessings, their حساب is easier. And
especially when it comes to the blessing of knowledge, when it comes to the blessing of ہداية of نور from
Allah, then remember that the حساب is greater and more difficult. We see that the بنى اسرائيل were
already blessed with food weren’t they? They have food already; but here they wanted some heavenly
food…. for what? ….for some good reasons!!
However Allah clarified that if you disbelieve after this then the punishment will also be very severe.
So the one who has علم, the one who has knowledge of guidance, then if he does wrong then the
punishment is greater.
116: And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Isa, Son of Maryam, did you say to the
people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'" ….

Now this is the question; after all the reminding of the blessings, now Allah will ask Isa (a.s.); “did you
say to the people take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?”
He [Isa (a.s.)] would say;"Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right.
If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know
what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.”
ه ربي وربكم ما قلت لهم إل ما أمرتني :117 به أن اعبدوا اللـ ….I said not to them except

Meaning Ya Allah, I only told people to do what you told me to convey to them. I only conveyed the
message and what was that?
….to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was
among them; but when You took me up, ….
You raised me, when he was taken away then….
….You were the Observer over them, ….
I could not see them anymore but Ya Allah, you saw them
….and You are, over all things, Witness.
Isa (a.s) will completely dissociate himself from the people.
بهم فإنهم عبادك :118 ;If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants..… إن تعذ
أنت العزيز الحكيم - but if You forgive them.… وإن تغفر لهم .… then indeed it is You.… فإن
who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Isa (a.s) will say, O Allah! Do as you please with your servants; if You wish, You forgive them… if
You wish, You punish them, because ultimately they are Your servants.
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, one day he recited an آية, the آية that tells about the دعا of Ibrahim (a.s) that:
حيم غفور ر فمن تبعني فإنه مني ومن عصاني فإن“O Allah whoever follows me of my people then indeed he is of me but whoever disobeys me then O
Allah you are Forgiving and Merciful.”
Meaning I don't have any request to make for them except to say that you are Forgiving and Merciful,
they are your servants you decide what you want to do with them. We see that Ibrahim (a.s) also, what
did he do? He kind of dissociated himself from his people, which people? The people who did wrong
and he was justified in doing that because it's not his responsibility once the people have disobeyed him.
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن

His duty was just to convey and he conveyed. If the people disbelieved, if they went astray, it was their
fault.
Then the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص recited this ayah about Isa (a.s) that he will say that:
أنت العزيز الحكيم بهم فإنهم عبادك وإن تغفر لهم فإن إن تعذ
And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, when he read this, he raised his hands and he said:
“O Lord! my امة… my امة”
Meaning what will happen to my Ummah,امة and the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص wept…. he cried so much so that
Allah said to جبرائيل ; “O جبرائيل! go to Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and ask him what makes you cry?”
Even though Allah knows, He knew from before why the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was crying at that time but He
sent جبرائيل to ask Prophet Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص; “What is it that makes you cry?”
And when جبرائيل came to the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص and asked him, he said that; “it’s my امة, I'm afraid for my
.”I don't want them to be punished .امة
Upon this Allah said; “O جبرائيل! Go to Mohammad and say verily, we will please you with regard to
your امة and would not displease you”. (Hadith Sahih Muslim)
We will please you with regard to your امة and we will not displease you. The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he was
most concerned for people; not just the people of his time but his entire امة, and his امة includes all the
people that will come until the Day of Judgment. What is his concern that after me will they remain
firm or will they go astray? What will happen to them?
And Allah سبحانه و تعالى said that we will not disappoint you with regards to your امة. We will make
you happy. That is Allah’s promise. Now the question is what are we doing? Are we such believers of
the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, such followers of Rasool Allah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص that when he will see us, he will be proud, he will
be happy? Or are we those people who will bring him disappointment?
What this shows to us, this ayah and this حديث, what they show to us is the love that the prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
had for his امة. The love, the concern that he had for people in general, not just his family but every
single person of his امة because he was sent as a mercy to who? ….to the worlds!
It is because of Allah’s mercy that he was sent and he came as a merciful servant also, Raheem. And the
prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص he was merciful to the people, he was kind towards them and this was his mercy, and this
is something that we also need to think about that when Allah has blessed us even with some knowledge

of the دين, even with some understanding of the دين, then what is our level of concern for people? What
is our level of concern for people who are coming to learn the دين of Allah? That if people are coming, if
people want to study, if people want to learn, then what am I doing to assist them? Am I doing my part
to help them or am I falling short in my duty? That I have taken on a responsibility, yet I am not helping
people the way I should be helping. I do not make دعا for them. I do not help them. I do not encourage
them. I do not motivate them. This is whose fault? Our fault and this is something that we need to
really question ourselves about. The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was most sincere.

AL-AN'AM (1-28) RECITATION: VERSE # 1- 4
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
1. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness
and the light. Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord.”
2. It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term and a specified time [known] to
Him; then [still] you are in dispute.
3. And He is Allah, [the only deity] in the heavens and the earth. He knows your secret and what
you make public, and He knows that which you earn.
He is fully aware of all what we do. Whether we say something or we keep it in our hearts; whether we
express it or we hide it, nothing is hidden from Allah and if that is the case then this means that we must
refrain from disobeying Allah, out of His fear. We don't disobey Him, neither in public nor in private,
neither in our heart nor from our mouths or our limbs.
And secondly this means that if a mistake has happened then what do we need to do? SEEK
FORGIVENESS!
The prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص….. one of his most common duas would be:
دت " دت ، وما أسررت وما أعلنت ، وما جهلت وما تعم "اللهم اغفر لي ما أخطأت وما تعم
The most common دعا of Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was what? …. That:
‘O Allah! Forgive me for what I have done by accident and forgive me for what I have done
deliberately. Forgive me for what I have done secretly and what I have done openly, ignorantly and
knowingly.’
Because all of these mistakes happen, right? So this was the most common دعا of Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.
In another حديث we learn that once the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص got up at night for صالة and then before he said the

‘O Allah forgive me for the earlier and later, open and secret sins, those that I did knowingly and those
that you know of better than I. You are the first and the last; there is no God but You.’
So even before saying the سالم, the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is seeking forgiveness. Why? Because Allah knows
what we are!
كم وجهركم ويعلم ما تكسبون He knows your secret and what you make public, and.… يعلم سر
that which you earn....
Because sometimes we say something and we don't even know what we have earned. We do something
we don't even know that we have earned. We look at something, we listen to something, and we don't
even know what we have earned. So we commit sins without even realizing, without even thinking. So
the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص made دعا that O Allah whatever sins I have committed and you know best about what I
have done….. you forgive me for all of them.
The fact is that none of us is an angel. Anybody sitting over here can claim that he is perfect? That he
doesn't commit errors? That she's just perfectly fine? No….. But especially when we are alone…..
especially when we are alone…. then what happens? It's easier to make mistakes. Why? Because no
people are there, so the fear of people is also not there and that's why شيطان, when he is sitting next to us
and we forgot to say “أعوذ باهلل”, we forgot our morning duas, our evening اذکار we didn't say “ ,”بسم ٱهلل
then what will happen? شيطان is with us and he's not going to leave us alone. He is not going to leave
us alone. He's going to keep telling us, keep telling us until we end up making even a small mistake but
we definitely err. That is his goal. So remember when we are alone, sitting by ourselves alone in the
house, looking at a screen all by ourselves then what happens? It's much easier to make a mistake…..
It's much easier to slip…..so we need to become even more conscious when we are alone. Be afraid of
yourself. Never be comfortable with your own soul. Be afraid of it because this can also be an enemy
because: ار إن ٱلنفس وء ب ة لم ٱلس
The نفس (soul), it constantly, over and over, repeatedly urges us to do evil, to disobey Allah. And this is
why in secret, in private, it is more difficult to control oneself. Likewise when it comes to the state of
the heart, when it comes to our actions, our words, can we control them somewhat? Yes we can. But
when it comes to the state of the heart nobody knows what we're thinking. Like for example right now
it's quite possible that the thoughts that are going on in our minds are very negative, maybe about
another person, we’re thinking negative thoughts about them, سوء الظن bad thoughts about them and
that is also a kind of a sin. Or entertaining doubts about the دين, about the Quran about Allah. So the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص, he taught us a دعا in the morning, in the evening. What is that دعا?
أع إني أللهم نفسي شر من وذب “O Allah, protect me from the evil of my soul.”
Because the Soul also can be very very مفسد! It can really cause a lot of harm to a person.

the سورة was revealed in one go like a خطبة. It was like in one go. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص received the سورة

so many صفات of Allah سبحانه و تعالى that are mentioned. What are صفات? Attributes! If you remember
the first day I had mentioned to you that as you read through the Quran now, as we reflect in the
meanings of the Quran, also take note of the different names of Allah and names generally we do notice
them but when it comes to attributes of Allah, we tend to neglect them. So over here in this آية Allah

That everything belongs to Him. There is nothing at all except that Allah owns it. There's nothing at all

Why does it belong to him? Something that rests in the night or something that rests during the day.
Why does it belong to him? How does it belong to him? Because he is the مال, and that means even the
crawling ants that you see crawling around everywhere. What happens to them at night? Hidden! They
go and rest. All day long you see birds fly around chirping, making noise but then what happens at night
time? They stop and they rest. So anything moving that we see moving moving and then what happens?
It stops! Who does it belong to? It belongs to Allah.
ميع ٱل عليم وهو ٱلس …..And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
The thing is that if we really want to worship Allah alone, if we truly want to fear Allah the way He
should be feared, if we want to love Allah the way He should be loved, if we want to recognize Allah
the way He should be recognized, if we really want to develop “اخالص” sincerity, then you know how
that begins? It begins through Reflection, reflection on what? On Allah’s Creation, that everything that a
person sees even if it's a moving ant; a person doesn't just think “Oh how annoying”. No, you think this
ant, this little ant Allah made it. Allah knows where it is going.
Have you ever found a fly going around in your house and you wonder where did it come from? Where
is it going to go? What is it going to eat? Where is it going to sit down and where is it going to die? Is
it going to be able to leave this house even or is it going to die before that? Every creature small or big,
moving or still, every creature belongs to Who? Allah! He is the خالق, He is the مال. This is how great
our Lord is, but we forget that.
قدره حق هللا قدروا وما ... If we come across a person who is very rich, if we find out about a person who
has become very rich, who has earned a lot of money, what is our concern? What did they do? What
advice do they give? What books have they written? What articles have they written? What piece of
advice do they give? And we're desperate for that guidance. Why? Because we're so impressed with
their material wealth! Who owns that person? And who owns whatever they have? Allah!
....?Say, Is it other than Allah that I should take as a protector.... قل :16
Should I leave Allah and go seek others? No! Allah is the:
…..Creator of the heavens and the earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?"
Every creature is fed by Allah and Allah does not need to be fed.
....Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit
[to Allah ] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheists.' "
15: Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 27
If I should disobey my Lord than I am disobeying Who? The master, the owner of everything and
therefore disobeying Him is something that is not very minor, it is something very serious. I fear, the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has been told to say; say this that if I disobey my Lord I fear the punishment of a
tremendous day.
He from whom it is averted that Day - [Allah] has.… من يصرف عنه يومئذ فقد رحمه :16
granted him mercy…..
لين المب الفوز وذ ….And that is the clear attainment.
وإن :17 ه يمسس هو إل له كاشف فال بضر اللـ ….And if Allah should touch you with
adversity, there is no remover of it except Him….
وإن ير قد شيء كل على فهو بخير يمسس ….And if He touches you with good - then He is
over all things competent.
Why? Because everything is in His control for He is the sole master, the sole owner of the entire
creation. What do we see here? That any harm, any adversity that strikes us, who can remove it? Only
Allah! And if it has struck us, it has struck us only by whose permission & will? Allah’s Will!
Now recall anything that you have suffered in life. Bring to mind anything that you have suffered in life!
Perhaps you bumped into the side of your bed this morning.
Perhaps you burned your حجاب while ironing it.
Perhaps you hurt yourself as you were chewing your food.
Perhaps you ate ice cream some day and had a brain freeze, Freezer brain! Brain Freeze!
Or perhaps you walked in the sun and felt very hot.
These are all what? " ضر" .
Perhaps you lost something very precious to you.
Perhaps something that very precious to you, broke by your own hands.
These are all what? Forms of " ضر" !
Nothing of this " ضر" happened except by Allah’s will.
If I bumped into my bed and hurt my knee, that’s because Allah willed it.
If I hurt my tongue while chewing on food, that's because Allah willed it.
If I broke my favorite cup, that's because Allah willed it.
Now the question is why? Why did Allah allow that to happen? What was my fault? What wrong did I
do? Yes! Think about the wrong that we did. Definitely! Because the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said that:
‘No eye quivers and no vein quivers from pain….’
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن
منا تقبل ربنا Page 28
What does it mean by that, quivers from pain? Because when your eyes are hurting, is it as if they are
shivering, like almost like quivering, right? And when you have pain somewhere deep inside, also that
pain it's like a movement inside, even if it's very very subtle and deep. It's a movement. Nothing like this
happens
“…..except that it is because of the sins that the servant has committed and Allah pardons much”.
Allah pardons much meaning He doesn't punish us because of every wrong thing that we have done.
Now remember any hardship, any mistake, any difficulty, any pain; Stop and think! Don't stop and
curse. Stop and think. Because generally what happens? Instantly we stop and we begin yelling at other
people. We start screaming and we start cursing and fighting. Think what did I do? Ya Allah this
happened by your will, you willed this for me. Perhaps I did something wrong. Yes I did something
wrong! Definitely I did something wrong. I don't know what I did? Ya Allah, you know better. Guide
me; tell me what is it that I did. Show me my mistakes so that I can fix them. And if you really take a
moment to think about it why you bumped your leg in the side of your bed and hurt your knee so bad, if
you really take a moment and think about it, you will know why. You will know exactly why. Perhaps
an arrogant thought crossed your mind; perhaps some negative thought about another individual crossed
your mind. These are all effects of our sins. And yes Allah also tests people for other reasons, but what
we need to think is that when we are afflicted by hardship then remember; Allah willed it…. So who can
take it away? Who can take it away? Only Allah can take it away, whether it is poverty, or it is hunger
or it is illness. Then remember this is a time when we call upon Allah.
لي اغفر رب يا .
“O my Lord forgive me”,
I did something wrong, you forgive me. So he who recognizes his Lord, he would seek forgiveness
from Allah at this time and then he will ask Allah to remove that affliction from him.
When somebody hurts your feelings, even that is a form of affliction. When somebody yells at you
they're upset with you. This is also a form of " ضر" . Recall and think about the wrong that we have done
and beg Allah for forgiveness and then ask Allah to create ease for you. Because even a relationship
could be between husband and wife; could be between brother and brother; could be between sister and
sister; mother and daughter, even if a relationship is causing you grief, if a beautiful relationship that
was meant to bring peace in your life, that was meant to produce love and mercy, if that is causing you
to cry day and night, if that is causing your heart to ache, this is " ضر" from Who..? From Allah! Who
can remove that " ضر" ? Who can? ALLAH CAN! So beg Him to remove it. Ask Him to remove it.
Ask Him to fix your situation for you. Those who ask Him then yes Allah also responds to them. Allah
also helps them because when a person is in a state of difficulty and he calls upon Allah then what
happens? It's because of that difficulty that he was led to Allah, so that difficulty, that " ضر" , it became a
stepping stone for him in his journey to Allah سبحانه و تعالى.

A man asked the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص ‘What is it that you call people to? What's this religion about? What do
you teach?
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
‘I call to Allah the Exalted and Majestic alone. The One who, when you are afflicted with some adversity
you call upon Him and He removes it from you when you are afflicted with a year of famine and you call
upon Him, He makes produce grow for you and the One who, when you are in a desolate empty land
and you get lost and you call upon Him, He responds to you.’
When the man heard this, he accepted Islam. Yes, I believe in a Lord like that because only He hears;
only He responds, nothing happens except by His will and nothing can change except by His will.
....And He is the subjugator over His servants..... وهو ٱلقاهر فوق عبادهۦ :18
.And He is the Wise, the Acquainted [with all].... وهو ٱلحكيم ٱلخبير
He is قاهر over His servants. He has full control over His creation, over what He owns. Yet He has
given us freedom; freedom to do what? To do what we please, to make the choices that we want. And
then He will Question us!

The Quran was revealed to who? Rasul Allah ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص! For what purpose? So that he may warn people and
whoever this Quran reaches, that person is also warned by the Quran. So this Quran is for who? Quran is
for ALL. It is for everybody. It is for everyone. Why? So that they may know the reality of this life!
They may know the reality of what is to come after death. They may know what is to follow after death
so that they may live their lives properly.
....Do you [truly] testify that with Allah there are other gods?"
If you say that!
....Say, "I will not testify [with you]."
This means that even if the whole world says something wrong, can we agree with them? We cannot
agree with them. Even if a person says with a lot of conviction, that God has a son, God has children

confirm this; I disagree with this because it is not just enough to say I believe in Allah. What is
necessary is that we also say I believe that Allah is the only God and there is no God worthy of worship
but Allah, ل إله إل هللا. There is no God except Allah. Why is it necessary to say that? Because a person
can only go to جنة if he believes in توحيد, and توحيد is complete with this negation and affirmation;
negating every god except for who? Allah! Affirming Him as the ONLY GOD and this is توحيد, pure
.جنة lives by it, only then he is going to ,توحيد When a person believes in pure .توحيد
....Say, "Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]."
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“Whosoever will meet Allah without associating anything in worship with Him will go to جنة.”
“Will go to جنة” meaning ultimately that person is going to enter جنة for sure.
In another حديث we learn;
“He who worships Allah without associating any partner with Him, establishes the prayer, gives زك وة,
hears and obeys then Allah will admit Him through any of the doors of paradise that the servant wants.”
“That the servant wants” meaning all gates of جنة will be open for him and he will be told you choose,
where do you want to go in from, this one, this one, this one, this one or that one.
And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“And جنة has eight gates.” تفتح لهم البواب...
“The gates of جنة will be open for them”
You choose how you want to go; but this is for who? Those who believe in توحيد and live by it, refrain
from shirk then Allah would honour them that day.
Those to whom We have given the Scripture recognize it as they recognize their [own] sons. 20:Those who will lose themselves [in the Hereafter] do not believe.

22: And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day We will gather them all together; then We will say

Him]?"
23: Then there will be no [excuse upon] examination except they will say, "By Allah , our Lord,
we were not those who associated."
Meaning that day they will deny having done any form of شرك.
24: See how they will lie about themselves. And lost from them will be what they used to invent.
25: And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts
coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign,
they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say,
"This is not but legends of the former peoples."
26: And they prevent [others] from it….
Meaning from the truth or from the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.
....And are [themselves] remote from him….
The one who stops people from ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رسول هللا is in fact far from ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رسول هللا because if he truly knew
him he would not stop people from him. Because we see that even there are people who do not believe
in Islam but when they have studied the life of ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رسول هللا then they have begun to appreciate the
Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص. They have begun to appreciate him and this is something that's well known, because
his personality is such that when you learn even one story about him, it only grows you in love ,رسول هللا
and appreciation of that great man.
What a kind man he was, what a different man he was, even when you compare him with the Prophets
of Allah, Isa (a.s.), Ibrahim (a.s.) they will dissociate themselves from their nations. The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
when he read those آيات, he wept “امتى امتى”. Ya Allah, What about my nation? What about my ام ة? I
don't want them to be punished. He was concerned for all people, every individual, even his enemies.
So much so that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص made دعا that “O Allah guide one of the two Umars”, and who are
they? Guide one of those two intelligent people and who were they? One was Umar R.A and the other
was who? Abu Jahal! Can you imagine, ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رسول هللا is praying that Abu Jahal be led to Islam? Can
you imagine, ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص رسول هللا is praying that Hazrat Umar R.A be led to Islam? He made دعا for him. If

Remember this سورة also teaches us about the آخرة when people will be made to stand before their
Lord.
....He will say, "Is this not the truth?".....
You rejected it. But is this not the truth?
They will say, "Yes, by our Lord." He will [then] say, "So taste the punishment because you used

Those who do not believe in آخرة... What does Allah say? What will they suffer? A tremendous loss!
They're not going to be in a neutral state. No, they are going to suffer a loss, a tremendous loss....
....Until when the Hour [of resurrection] comes upon them unexpectedly, they will say, "Oh, [how
great is] our regret over what we neglected concerning it," while they bear their burdens on their
backs. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.
What is this burden that they will be carrying on their backs? The burden of sin... The burden of sin!
Imagine how embarrassing it would be that the sins of a person are where? On his shoulders, so that he
will not be able to hide them at all. In this world, are we willing to display our sins? Are we willing to
tell other people, “Oh! Today I didn't pray فجر, you know”.... Can we say that? Can we say to
somebody, can we publicize our sins today? Can we have our sins written all over us?
Juzz # 7 2015 فهم القرآن

If we stole something and that is on our head, we're carrying it in our hand, can we walk around in front
of people, “yes I stole this”.... Can we do that? No. Why? Because a sin is a cause of embarrassment!
But imagine if we do not repent from these sins today, if we do not have them washed off today then
what will happen tomorrow? Those sins are still there, they're still there. So what is it that we need to
do? Stop those sins. You find it difficult, ask Allah. Ya Allah you give me the strength to leave it. I'm
trying, I've done my best, I've exhausted my efforts, You help me, You guide me, you give me the
courage, You keep me firm and then whatever has happened in the past Ya Allah wash it away, wash it
away.
Imagine if somebody recorded us when we were getting upset with someone. Imagine if those words
were recorded. Imagine if somebody videotaped us when we were doing something wrong and that
video was put up on youtube and the whole world watched it. Haven't we heard such incidents things
like this when they're put up people are not able to bear that embarrassment and they commit suicide
even. And this has happened, they will commit suicide. Why? Because the wrong thing that happened
was publicized, it was so embarrassing that it was not even possible to look at another person. We also
commit sins and when Allah blesses us with the knowledge, with awareness, it is so that we stop our
sins and we ask Allah, “Ya Allah! wash me; clean me; make me get rid of my bad habits”. When Allah
blesses us with the coming month of Ramadan In sha’Allah; may Allah enable us to reach that day and
live through this month. What is the purpose of this month? To clean us, to clean us of our sins, to help
us break our bad habit! Because if we don't break them now, if we don't get rid of our sins now, if we
don't get rid of this garbage, this burden now, tomorrow it will be a big burden for us. But then it will be
permanent. Right now it is temporary. That day it will be permanent.
نيا إل لعب ولهو :32 ة ٱلد وما ٱلحيو
What is it that prevents us from obeying Allah? What stops us from making repentance? What stops us?

who fear Allah, so will you not reason?
Will you not understand that this world, this life is a deception? How is it a deception? Because it's
temporary and what do we think? It's eternal. It is forever. So even if we want one small thing, one
small thing to fulfil a basic need, what will we do? Spend hours and hours trying to fulfil that need;
trying to find the most perfect option. Is it really worth it? Is it really worth it? Why is it that we spend
hours and days and months planning these things? Why? Because we think the house that we live in
right now is permanent. The car that we're going to drive is permanent. The clothes we're going to wear
are permanent. We think like that; we are deceived by this worldly life and then we also think that this

is most perfect. But remember even if it is the most beautiful and the most precious thing compared to
what is in جنة, it is lowly; it is base; it is cheap.

The people would continuously demand from the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص miracles. They were shown some
miracles but they kept demanding more and more miracles. So over here the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is consoled
that they should not believe because of miracles. So don't ask for miracles. Why? Because if a person
will believe just because he has seen a miracle then that quickly also his faith will leave! Truth should be

of recognizing it, understanding it to be true!

Remember that part of believing in Allah’s Oneness is to dedicate all acts of worship, prayer, sacrifice,
hope, trust exclusively to Who? To Allah سبحانه و تعالى! So over here we are asked, when you are in
difficulty then who do you call upon? Allah!
No, it is Him [alone] you would invoke, and He would remove that for.... بل إياه تدعون :41
which you invoked Him if He willed, and you would forget what you associate [with Him].
What happens when we are in difficulty? Initially we think about, Ok let me take some Tylenol, Ok let
me take some rest, let me take a break, let me sleep, let me ask this person, let me ask that person but
then still if the pain doesn't go away, if the problem doesn't go away then what happens? Eventually,
eventually it takes very long for some people and some people are quick to do this. Eventually we fall
to our knees, we fall into سجود or we beg Allah, we humble ourselves and we ask Him for help. Allah
says that loss from that is what you used to associate with Him.

when the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص conquered مكة, he left. He left, he fled, he said, I'm not staying here. I’m not
accepting Islam and there's no way I'm going to stay here. He left; he went, boarded a ship; went to the
sea and what happened? There was a huge storm and everybody first started calling upon their idols and
then one by one they started calling upon Allah alone. No, this idol is not helping; No, that one is not
helping; this one is not helping; so call only Allah! So he realized that if I'm calling upon Allah alone
here at sea knowing that only Allah can help me then that is exactly Mohammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has been calling
people to. Then we should call upon Allah alone. So, he left everything and he went to the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص

Many times it happens that Allah puts people in hardship, in difficulty and we don't understand why?
We think Allah is “الرحيم“ ,”الرحمن”, why is this person going through so much hardship? You know
why? Because Allah wants us to become humble. Because some people, they do remember Allah when
they are within blessings and other people they have to be broken up; their heart has to be shattered;
their life has to fall apart for them to realize that they need somebody. Who? Somebody who knows
them; somebody who understands them! And who can that be? The One who made them and the One
who made everything else!
42: And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We
seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps....
عون .perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].... لعلهم يتضر
So whenever we see hardship in our lives, when we see hardship in this world, in the lives of other
people; don't think how could Allah do that?! No, Allah does not intend injustice for His servants. What
does He want? He wants that they fulfil the purpose of their lives. He wants that they should recognize
their Lord.
43: Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their
hearts became hardened, and شيطان made attractive to them that which they were doing.
Many people even when they are put at this hardship, they don't humble themselves. Why? Because
they are still in the trap of Satan! Satan keeps telling us, “what you're doing is good, what you're doing is
best, you are right.”
روا بهۦ :44 ا نسوا ما ذڪ So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We.... فلم
opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were
given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.
What do we see here that if a person continues to receive Allah’s blessings despite disobedience, despite
sin, despite continuous and deliberate sins, then what is that? This is the beginning of punishment. This
is the beginning of punishment!
Because when a person does something wrong at first, he's made to suffer so that he realizes. When he
realizes but he doesn't repent, he doesn't change himself then what happens? He makes that mistake
again, he commits that sin again, then what happens? Again he feels bad; something happens that
makes him feel bad. But then after a couple of times he says, “Oh nothing's happening, oh you know
what I was thinking that I was suffering because of my sin, because I have been brainwashed. There is
no God, there is no day of judgment” and then what happens? A person thinks, oh look since I left
Islam, I am a happy person, since I left praying, since I stopped my حجاب I have regained my
confidence. Have you heard such statements? People taking confidence in the sins that they're doing;
feeling happy about the disobedience that they're committing! Why is this happening? You wonder that,
ok Really when you compare their present situation with their past situation, they're much happier now,

they're happier after they have left Islam, they're happier when they have left حجاب. Why? This is
.This is the beginning of punishment .”استدراج“
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“When you see that Allah gives to a servant in this world blessings despite his sins then
indeed it is استدراج.”
What is استدراج? Gradually when a person is led towards punishment that he's given his freedom, he's
given his space, ok do what you want to and then what happens instantly without any warning he is
seized. He is seized! So we need to reflect on our lives now. We need to reflect on ourselves that are
there things in my life which are clearly wrong. There is no question about that. It is wrong when it
comes to my صالة. Perhaps I am negligent when it comes to treating my parents, perhaps I am
disrespectful. When it comes to dealing with my husband, perhaps I am disrespectful. These are sins
and we forget that these are sins and these are real mistakes. But if despite that we get food, we have a
house, we have a happy life, we get to have fun, we get to enjoy then perhaps we are in big danger.
Perhaps we are in big danger that Allah is not even giving us the ability now to recognize, to see our
mistakes to feel our mistakes. And when a person lives like this then what happens? Instantly without
warning, punishment comes and seizes him and then he has no more chances left.
45: So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise to Allah, Lord of the
worlds.
46: Say, "Have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing and your sight and set a
seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah could bring them [back] to you?" Look how
We diversify the verses; then they [still] turn away.
Look at your hands. Take your hands and look at them, look at your hands. Who made them? Who gave
them to you? Feel your ears, touch your eyes. Who gave this? Who made it? Whose control is it in?
Allah’s control! He gave it, he can take it away. We are so weak; we don't even have control over our
hands, our hands. Recently I got to know about this child. The hand got caught in a treadmill. One year
old kid, hand got caught in the treadmill. You can imagine what happened to that hand. You can’t even
see it. We take these blessings for granted. We don't even think that these blessings, this body that I'm
enjoying, the hand that I'm using, the eyes with which I am seeing, the ears with which I am listening,
these are all temporarily with me. They're not going to last forever. I better use them before my time
runs out. I better use them in obedience to Allah, not in disobedience to Allah. I better Thank Allah for
these blessings. These blessings that I use day in and day out, think about how much we take from
Allah, how much we take from Him, how much we have taken from Him from the beginning of our
lives, how much have we received but what have we done in return? What gratitude, what obedience,
what love and what devotion have we showed in return? When a person gifts us just one meal, we
forever remain grateful to them. Every time that passed by us, we feel like oh they're coming, they gave
me such a big gift. We feel so conscious around them. Allah watches us all the time. He has blessed us
with everything that we have. Then is it not necessary that we thank Him; we remember Him; we care
about what He wants us to do? When He has shown so much love to us, is it not correct that we also

show love to Him? Love is both sided; it has to be both sided. We cannot always take, take, take and
demand but we should not be called to account. Allah is giving us, but then He will also ask us.
47: Say, "Have you considered: if the punishment of Allah should come to you unexpectedly or
manifestly, will any be destroyed but the wrongdoing people?"
48: And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. So whoever
believes and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
49: But those who deny Our verses - the punishment will touch them for their defiant
disobedience.
50: Say, [O Muhammad], "I do not tell you that I have the depositories [containing the
provision] of Allah or that I know the unseen, nor do I tell you that I am an angel. I only follow
what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Then will you not give
thought?"
So we are invited to give thought. Why? So that we may recognize Allah سبحانه و تعالى! That the real
giver is who? Allah!
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said,
“I am just a distributer but the grant is from Allah.”
!إنما أنا قاسم وهللا يعطي
So people; when they give us something, who are they? They are just distributing, they're just passing on
what was given to them to be passed on. Who is the real giver? Who is the real giver?
Allah سبحانه و تعالى!
And warn by the Qur'an those who fear.... أن يحشروا إلى ربهم وأنذر به ٱلذين يخافون :51
that they will be gathered before their Lord - for them besides Him (Allah) will be no protector
and no intercessor - that they might become righteous.
Warn them by this Quran. Why? So that they may become righteous! So how is it that a person
improves the state of his heart? How is it that he grows in his good actions, in his good deeds? How?
When he has a Quran sitting on their shelf? When they have a Quran app on their phone? When is it
that a person will truly increase in guidance? When he takes warning from the Quran and for that we
have to sometimes sit and read through an entire جز even though it's a little difficult and maybe we're
getting tired. But sometimes we have to do that because it's for our own good.
52: And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His
countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your
account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is told, keep company with those who are close to Allah, those who remember Allah.
Even if they have a lesser worldly status than you! Yes, even then! Even if the only thing common
between you and them is love of Allah, ايمان in Allah! Yes, still! Stay in their company, spend some
time with them. Why? Because you will remind them of Allah and they will remind you of Allah. You
see ايمان, it only grows when there are certain factors and of those factors is Good Company (Righteous
Company). You remember سورة النور!
ة فيہا مصباح What is that glass case that ?زجاجة What is that.... ٱلمصباح فى زجاجة مثل نورهۦ كمشكو
is around the lamp? Many scholars, they interpret it as righteous company because the flame of ايمان, it must be surrounded by good company. Why? Because then good company will protect it. It will protect
that ايمان and it will also make it look beautiful. Because think about it, if we ourselves, one person, all
of us individually, if we were sitting at home and reading the Quran just the translation like this, would
we be able to stop and reflect? Would we be able to? No, we would probably just come through quickly,
quickly, quickly and say, oh tomorrow. Be honest! Wouldn’t we do that? I would do that. But what
happens when we're sitting in a gathering then what happens? I am forced to stop, look at your faces,
think; reflect! So this is something that strengthens our faith. It improves our faith. Good Company!
So the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is told, don't send them away. But the thing was that these صحابة R.A, many of
them were poor. So there were people who were not Muslim and they did not like that they should sit
next to these poor people.
Allah says:
53: “And thus We have tried some of them through others that the disbelievers might say, "Is it
these whom Allah has favoured among us?" Is not Allah most knowing of those who are
grateful?”
ـ ڪرين بأعلم بٱلش Allah knows who is most grateful. We can claim only, I am very ... أليس ٱهلل
grateful, I am very grateful. Allah knows who is truly grateful.
54: And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord
has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any one of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then
repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
Forgiving and merciful to who..? Those who made a mistake and then repented; they correct themselves
and they reform and they take a step also right; because you see when they come to you, they are
making the effort to learn, they are making the effort to find out. Those who put in this effort and then
once they find out, oh I was wrong, I need to do this instead and they correct themselves than Allah is
forgiving and merciful to them.

Can we ever know about everything that is on land? And everything that is in the depths of the water.
Can we know? Who knows about it? Allah!
Just think at this time, any killer whale, where, where it is swimming; Dolphin, where, where it’s going
or any kind of fish/jellyfish deep in the water or any krill or something like that, whatever it may be in a
pond, in a river, in a sea, in an ocean wherever in this world. A rabbit may be running off an ice field

And He also knows what's going on in my life. He knows what I am going through. He knows the
struggles that I face, that I have been facing from the very beginning; the abuse perhaps that I have
suffered in a relationship; the difficulty that I have faced; the nights that I have spent crying. He knows,
He knows and that is sufficient for me.
Because when He knows then that means He has willed it. And if He has willed it, there was a reason
behind it. What is that reason? I don't know, He knows and I trust Him. Because the fact is that what
has happened in our lives, we could go to a thousand people asking them can you explain to me, can you
explain to me. What can they tell you? They cannot! You can only find comfort in knowing that Allah
knows. You can only find peace in knowing that Allah willed it. You can only find comfort in knowing

…And He is the subjugators over His servants.… وهو ٱلقاهر فوق عبادهۦ :61
Who can overcome, who can subjugate all His servants? It is only Allah!
Everything, everyone is in His control, His grip; which means that there is no condition that we're in
except that Allah has power over us. There is no situation, no place on earth, no condition that we are
in, except that Allah has power over us. So let us not get deceived by our power, by our ability.
The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:
“There was a person who was walking with pride because of his fine mantles, (because his fine clothes,
his shawl that he was wearing) and he was feeling well pleased with his personality and Allah made him
sink in the earth and he would go on sinking in that until the day of resurrection.”
?Whose power is manifested here .... ۦوهو ٱلقاهر فوق عباده
He has power over the arrogant; He has power over the oppressors also. We learn that once the Prophet
,ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص came forward in order to put his foot on the neck of the Prophet ابو جهل and سجود was doing ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص
in his arrogance he came and then people saw him running away, retreating, taking steps back and they
asked him what happened what's the matter with you? He said there is between me and him a ditch of
fire and terror and wings, I could not go. And the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said if he were to come near me the
angels would have torn him to pieces. They would have torn him to pieces…. ۦوهو ٱلقاهر فوق عباده
There is no tyrant, no human being, arrogant or humble anywhere in this world no matter where he is, at
all times, who has control over us? Allah..!
So even when we are yelling at somebody remember Allah still has control over us. When we are
abusing somebody, remember Allah has control over us. He has control over us. He has given us
freedom right now but then He's checking what we do and even though He has given us freedom he still
has control over us.

They do not fail in their duties; they do exactly as they are instructed. They take the soul out fully in the
way that they were instructed. The angels are fully out of our control also because when the angels of
death come to take the soul of a person, who can get the soul back? Who can claim it back? Who can
take it back?

When a person feels drowned in his problems, who can pull him out of that? Only Allah….!

actual sender of help is who?? Allah سبحانه و تعالى!
This is just like if you happen to be swimming in a pool and you lose your balance and you feel like you
are going to drown and somebody gives you a hand or something with which you can get out of the
water. And when you get out of the water you just hold on to that ring, and you're like “Ah! Thank you

70: And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion….
Those who do not take دين seriously…. why don't they take it seriously? Why do they mock at it? Why
do they just make fun in their religion? Why….? Because they don't believe in it!
If you really love someone would you make fun of them? Would you insult them? No Never! So the

been told don't even sit in their company. Why….? Because when you will sit in their company,
because Allah says over here leave them. Why leave them….? Because if you stay with them you will
hear what they say and that will affect your faith.
When you sit in a class where Quran is being criticized, where the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص he is being criticized

So: “Remind with the Quran” ….meaning don’t completely dissociate from them when they say

they change their subject, then remind them. Why remind them? Why should you even bother?
….lest a soul be given up to destruction for what it earned; ….
The believer is always a ناصح, always a well wisher for everybody, just like the Prophets of Allah were.

which is why he even told them, which is why he tolerated their sins. He lived amongst them in order to

71: Say, "Shall we invoke instead of Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us….
Should we invoke besides Allah that would neither benefit us nor harms us. Why should we do that?
….and we turn back on our heels after Allah was guided us?"
If we do that;
….[We would then be] like one whom the devils enticed [to wander] upon the earth confused,

Guidance is what has come from Allah and of clear signs are that a person surrenders to Allah on
hearing the commands of Allah he establishes his prayer, he gives importance to عبادة, and then fearing

وإذ قال إبرلهيم لبيه ءازر أتتخذ أصناما ءالهة :74
Now the story of Ibrahim is mentioned that:
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father Azar, "Do you take idols as
deities? Indeed, I see you and your people to be in manifest error."
What do we see over here? What is Ibrahim doing? Is he warning the people around him? YES! Why?
Because he cared for them! So if somebody warns us, it's not because they hate us, they care about us.
If somebody wakes us up to pray, reminds us to pray, it's not because they have a problem with us, it's
because they want the best for us. Ibrahim (a.s.) what does he symbolize? His life demonstrates what it
means to really believe in Allah and love Allah. It's a practical demonstration of that what it means to
believe in Allah, what it means to love Allah, what it means to live for Allah. Because Ibrahim (a.s.), he
firstly reflected on Allah’s creation. He took notice of the beautiful things that Allah created and then he
recognizes his Lord. He believed in Allah and he became his obedient servant. Allah’s servant alone.
Even when King نمرود was telling him, “I am God”, Ibrahim said, “No! You're not God”. When Allah
told him, slaughter your son, he said OK! I will slaughter. This is ايمان in Allah, this is Surrender, this is
love.
75: And thus did We show Ibrahim the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be
among the certain [in faith].
So he reflected on the creation, why? To develop certainty! This doesn't mean that he did not have ايمان
from before, he did have ايمان from before, but reflecting on the creation, this incident that is described
over here, this is something that strengthened him in ايمان.
So what do we have to do if we want to strengthen our faith also? “Reflect on the creation of Allah”.
Look at the clouds. Don't just look at your car, look at the clouds. Don't just look at your phone, look at
the grass also. Don't just look at the jewelry, look at the hands also. Don't just find faults, appreciate

remember? That others who are telling us to disobey Allah, they should be afraid, why….? Because
who are they disobeying? Allah سبحانه و تعالى! Who has more power, Allah or all of mankind? Who has

if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were
doing.
This is how dangerous shirk is. It doesn't matter who you are, if shirk is done, destroys all deeds.
89: Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture and authority and prophet hood. But if
they [the disbelievers] deny it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not therein
disbelievers.”
90: Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example. Say, "I
ask of you for it [i.e., this message] no payment. It is not but a reminder for the worlds."
So when telling someone about Allah, when conveying His words, then expect what from people? What
should we expect from people, when we're telling them something good? Nothing, absolutely nothing!
Because if we expect that they should thank us, we will be disappointed. If we expect that they should
praise us, we will be disappointed. If we expect that they listen to us and they obey us, we will be
disappointed. You're doing this for Allah. Your job is to just throw and Allah’s job is to make it reach
the targets. Like the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص at بدر, what did he do? He took a handful of dust and threw it. And
what happened? Allah made it reach the eyes of the enemy. ” رمى هللا ولكن رميت إذ رميت وما ”... So we
have to do what we do sincerely and Allah will give endless reward.
91: And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal when they said, "Allah did not reveal to
a human being anything." Say, "Who revealed the Scripture that Musa brought as light and

guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing
much. And you were taught that which you knew not - neither you nor your fathers." Say, "Allah
[revealed it]." Then leave them in their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves.
92: And this Quran is a Book...
صدق مه مبارك ـ ب أنزلن ـ ذا كت ـ ٱلذى بين يديه وه
.... This ـ ب ه This book... is.... كت ـ أنزلن ....We have revealed it....
This has come from Who? رب العا لمين! It is Mubarak. مبارك …“It is blessed”. Whoever reads it,
whoever understands it, whoever applies it, whoever conveys it then it is Allah’s promise, that Allah
will enrich him with His blessings. …MUBARAK
....It confirms that which was before it, that you may warn the mother of cities and those around
it. Those who believe in the hereafter believe in it….
Why? Because when they have the آخرة in mind, then they are concerned about their present condition.
So they will believe in the book and they will follow it.
....And they are maintaining their prayers.
93: And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about Allah or says, "It has been inspired
to me," while nothing has been inspired to him, and one who says, "I will reveal [something] like
what Allah revealed." And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming
pangs of death while the angels extend their hands, [saying], "Discharge your souls! Today you
will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah
other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant."
So the person who doesn't believe in Allah’s آيات, who rejects them, then what will happen? عذاب will
begin from the moment of death onwards.
94: [It will be said to them], "And you have certainly come to Us alone as We created you the
first time, and you have left whatever We bestowed upon you behind you. And We do not see with
you your 'intercessors' which you claimed that they were among you associates [of Allah]. It has
[all] been severed between you, and lost from you is what you used to claim."
95: “Indeed, Allah is the cleaver of grain and date seeds. He brings the living out of the dead and
brings the dead out of the living. That is Allah; so how are you deluded?”
He can change the situation completely. You think something is evil; Allah brings much good out of it.
You think something is good; Allah can also bring harm out of it. Don't be deceived by this world.

96: [He is] the cleaver of daybreak and has made the night for rest and the sun and moon for
calculation. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.
97: And it is He who placed for you the stars that you may be guided by them through the
darknesses of the land and sea. We have detailed the signs for a people who know.
Between the covers of the sky and the earth, you know just like a book it has two covers, it has two sides
to it; the sky and the earth. Consider that to be like a book between it within it are numerous uncountable
miracles, uncountable آيات, uncountable signs, just take the time to reflect.
ن أنشأكم الذي هو و :98 واحدة نفس م ....And it is He who produced you from one soul and
[gave you] a place of dwelling and of storage....
There will be a place in the earth where you will be stored. Stored until when? Until the day of
judgement and what is that storage? It is the grave. IT IS THE GRAVE! In that storage, we will only be
stored. We can’t do anything there. Where is it that we can do something? Here! Today! Right now!
Before we are put in that storage!
….We have detailed the signs for people who understand.
It’s clear! One who understands, he can understand.
99: And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all
things. We produce from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from
the palm trees - of its emerging fruit are clusters hanging low. And [We produce] gardens of
grapevines and olives and pomegranates, similar yet varied. Look at [each of] its fruit when it
yields and [at] its ripening….
So look at it! Look at the fruit when it yields and at its ripening, observe this also when the fruit
becomes ripe, don't just eat it up and throw the skin and the pit away. No! Take time to look at it, smell
it; smell it! Look at the color, look at the texture, feel it, enjoy it, take a moment. Allah make this a gift
for you a blessing for you to enjoy.
….Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
You see the different fruits that are mentioned over here, especially the pomegranate. It's one fruit but
inside, what do you find; so many many seeds. Isn't it so? This is what we need to do also. Just put the
seed in! One seed in! Just do one good deed with sincerity with اخالص and Allah will cause it to grow
into a plant into a tree that will produce fruit and that fruit will have seeds and that will grow. In my
backyard, the spring we have noted that there are so many baby trees that are coming out, so many baby
trees we were wondering this is not of kind of a weed but then when we saw there was a tree next to it
and those apparent weeds look exactly the same as that. Perhaps it هللا اعلم got fertilized somehow or
something happened that now there's like mini trees all around it. This is what happens when we do one
good deed with sincerity for Allah, He will make it grow…. In it are signs for a people who BELIEVE!

100: But they have attributed to Allah partners - the jinn, while He has created them - and have
fabricated for Him sons and daughters. Exalted is He and high above what they describe.
101: [He is] Originator of the heavens and the earth. How could He have a son when He does
not have a companion and He created all things? And He is, of all things, Knowing.
ربكم :102 ه إل هو ذللڪم ٱهلل ـ لق ڪل شىء فٱعبدوه ل إل ـ وهو على كل شىء وڪيل خ
That is Allah, your Lord. There is no deity except Him, the Creator of All things….
So when you recognize Him, when you know Him, “So worship Him” Don't just sit back. Worship
Him and don't worship other than Him. Worship only Him!
....He is the disposer of all things.
103: ر ـ ر وهو يدرك ٱلبص ـ Vision perceives him not but He perceives.… ل تدرڪه ٱلبص
[all] vision…..
In this world nobody can see Allah, Nobody! But on the Day of Judgment, Allah will allow His beloved
servants to see Him. Those who want to see Him, those who have been seeking his face!
ر ـ .…But He perceives [all] vision.... وهو يدرك ٱلبص
وهو ٱللطيف ٱلخبير ....He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.
104: There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord….
O people there has come to you بكم .(Enlightenment from your Lord) بصاٮ ر من ر
This is an invitation to reflect, to see to think!
.... So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm]
against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."
105: And thus do We diversify the verses so they [i.e., the disbelievers] will say, "You have
studied" ….
This only increases them in their denial!
....and so We may make the Qur'an clear for a people who know.

106: Follow, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord – there is no deity
except Him – and turn away from those who associate others with Allah.
107: ما But if Allah had willed, they would not have associated. And We.... أشركوا ولو شاء ٱهلل
have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them.”
So you need not worry about the results!
108: And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity
without knowledge. Thus we have made pleasing to every community their deeds….
So they get very emotional. So don't abuse their gods.
….Then to their Lord is their return and He will inform them about what they used to do.
He will inform them about what they used to do after what? When they return to Him! And this journey
of return to Allah is a very difficult journey, because at the end of it is حساب.
Think about it! When you have to go write an exam; these days many people are having exams or they
will be having exams. When you're going to write your exam, what's the state of your heart? How have
you spent the night before the exam? How have you spent that morning? Did you get a chance to eat
breakfast even though the breakfast was in front of you? Could you eat anything? How was the week
before? Weren't you worried? Why? Because the exam is difficult! The greatest exam, the most
difficult exam is the one which will be on the Day of Judgment, the one that will be taken by Who?
Allah will question us! Allah will question us, who knows all things, who knows our weaknesses, who
knows our faults! So we need to see what have we prepared for it.
109: نہم ـ جهد أيم وأقسموا بٱهلل ….And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths that if a sign
came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with Allah." And what will
make you perceive that even if a sign came, they would not believe.
110: And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the
first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
Because the person who deliberately pushes guidance away when it has come to him, then what
happens? Allah also deviates his heart and then he is not given guidance.
May Allah protect us from that! So the first thing that needs to be done is when Allah gives us guidance
we accept it…. ربا باهلل رضيت
