insignificant creature

Those who believe know that it is the truth from their Rabb. And as for

Those who disbelieve, they say what does Allah mean by such an example?

By such an example Allah confirms many, and He enlightens many, and He

confounds none except

The transgressors. Those who break Allah covenant after

Cause mischief in the Earth, it is they who are the losers. How

Can you deny Allah? Did He not give you life when you were lifeless? And will

He not call you to die? And again

Bring you to life? And will you not ultimately return to Him? It is He who has

created for you all that there is

In the Earth, and has directed Himself towards the sky and fashioned it

Into seven heavens, and He has perfect knowledge of everything

Summary:

Indeed Allah does not feel shy. He is not ashamed, about what? That he cites what?

Any example of anything whether it is of a mosquito or above it. What happens due to

these examples? Why are examples cited? So that people will understand things. Therefore so

as for those who believe, when they hear the example so they get to know, their knowledge

increases, they find out that indeed this is the truth, it is a fact, whether the example given was of a

small thing or of a big thing. But whatever has been said is a fact from their Rabb. So they do not

hesitate to accept it, because it has been said by their Rabb. Their faith makes it easier for them to accept

what has been said.

However this may not be the case with everyone. There are people who those who

disbelieve. Who is a كافر? One who is stubborn and arrogant and because of this he denies. What does he

deny? Allah’s existence, Allah’s orders, Allah’s word, His messenger Muhammad (SAW) and the Quran. When

these people read the Quran or read the examples in the Quran, what do they do? So they say

what does Allah intend by such an example? This means that they do not understand

anything. These are those people to whom Allah gave the ability to understand but these people refuse to

understand out of utter stubbornness. These are the people who do not understand the examples cited by

Allah. , what is the result?

Then Allah with it (meaning with the same example) leads astray some people. And he

guides with these many people. So why does this happen, that some get guided and some go astray, the

reality is all are not let astray, through such examples only those people go astray who are

This means to go outside or to stray beyond limits. In Islamic law, it means going beyond the circle of .فا سق

obedience to Allah or transgressing the commandments of Allah. Who is a فا سق? He who follows his own

desires. Such a man does not understand any example because does not want to accept. Then Allah further

gives us the recognition of a فا سق. Who are they?

1. - Those that break the covenant of Allah. What is ? It is the promise made

with Allah. What is this promise about?

a. Oh Allah, we will obey you

b. We will accept You as our Rabb

- After its binding; meaning that they made a solemn promise and then later they break it.

2. - They cut. Cut what? What Allah ordered with it that it be joined,

meaning what Allah commanded to join, they cut. What did Allah command to join? The relations

between people and the relatives, they are to be joined. Why does this happen that they break

relations? Because that, too, harms their desires. It asks their soul for a sacrifice which they do not

want to give. This is why the break the relations.

3. - They cause mischief. What will be their outcome? They will be the

losers. They will be the ones who face loss. Where? In the world as well as in the hereafter.

For someone who breaks promises with Allah, who breaks relationships and who creates mischief will

never himself rest in peace. In the hereafter such a man will face a loss in every case.

The Allah says how can you disbelieve in Allah? He created you! How did he create you?

, you were dead, you were nothing then He gave you life. Then what will he do?

Then he will give you death. Then what will happen? Then again He will give you life.

Then what will happen? Then again you will be returned to Him. Where? On the day of

standing. You will be presented to stand before him. Then Allah is that being who He who

created for you that which is in the Earth. How much? All of it. Then he attended,

he turned, to what? To the skies and then what did he do?

Then he fashioned it, leveled it how? By making it into seven heavens. How did he do all this?

Because He has full knowledge of everything. There is nothing that is difficult for Him.

Tafsir:

Okay so relating it from what was learned earlier, first Allah gave His recognition, “Oh people worship

me”. Why are we reading this book? We are reading this book solely so that we can worship Allah in the

best way. So it makes sense that we can only worship him if we recognize Him. In order for us to recognize

Allah he showed us some signs in the universe and then he said , there is no doubt in

this book. And then He challenged , and if you have a doubt, even if it’s a little bit, remove

it. What is being doubted? , what We revealed on a slave.

Why must this doubt be removed? So before reading the Quran, we hold onto it with complete

satisfaction. So we read it and understand it with full dedication and so that we concentrate on it with full

Page 5: Al Baqarah Ayah 26-29 Notes

5

attention. Then the result of those who do not believe in it is mentioned and the result of those who those

who accepted and implement it. These will be the garden of paradise.

When this challenge then came of bringing a book, a surah, a verse like the Quran came, everyone was

silenced. So the ones who denied it were now restless. Their stubbornness and arrogance came in the way,

that they won’t ever accept. So what did they do? They tried to find some defect in this book, something

that will reduce the importance of this book in people’s heart so they won’t concentrate upon it.

They did not want to believe in it despite knowing its truth and greatness.

An example: You go to the market to buy something and you really like something and you want to buy

it. But you don’t have enough money to buy it. So now there is a struggle between the heart and the mind.

You cannot buy but you don’t want to leave. So you lie to yourself, you give yourself an alibi so that you

can give yourself a fake satisfaction.

Similarly, when we don’t want to believe in something, then to satisfy ourselves we find some

weakness or a defect in it. So that we can neglect it.

Those people who did not accept the Quran, who didn’t want to recognize its greatness and its truth so

they tried to look for some weaknesses inside it. The people were made to feel that the book that you are

running after is nothing special just tales of flies and mosquitoes. If it was the book of Allah, if it was truly

great, why would it talk about such things? This is what the arrogant people would say. So in reply to this,

Allah said:

, Indeed Allah does not feel ashamed. Ashamed of what? , what he relates any

example whether it is of a mosquito or of a greater thing. This is when Allah relates something to

something else so that the person reading the Quran can understand it more easily. So here it is said that

Allah does not feel ashamed about what He is giving an example about, whether it be a small thing or a big

thing. This is because for Allah all the things are the same. Why? Because He was the one who created

both of them. You may notice it sometimes that comparing a small thing to a big thing is sometimes

difficult, however, for Allah be it small or big it is the same.

So when Allah states literally means to be above. So one meaning of it could be what is فوق ,

above the mosquito which could be its arms or its wings. When a mosquito flies you must have noticed

that it has 2 wings on it, these two wings are far smaller than the mosquito, so this means that Allah does

not feel shy to even to mention something smaller than a mosquito. فوق could also mean the small insect

that lives on the mosquito as a parasite. Like lice in humans. So Allah does not feel shy of talking of that

parasite.

The mosquito appears to be a very small thing and we can kill it with one strike of a hand, but if you

see its entire mechanism, it is awesome. It is our narrow mindedness that we go only for the physical

appearance, not the depth of anything.

So this objection was invalidated, it was of no use. It doesn’t make a difference to Allah and nor does it

harm His book. Nor does it affect the greatness of this book.

As Makkans did not know much about the mosquito, they were not familiar of its reality. So we think

that a mosquito is a very inferior thing, although now research shows that all over the world almost 2

million deaths are caused every year due to mosquitoes. This death is not in any war or any other way. So

this creation of Allah that seems to be so inferior has a lot of strength.

In the darkness of night or during the day, it can fly to its destination, it is said to have four very light

but strong wings. It also has a whole web of veins spread all over its wings which help it in contracting and

expanding its wings. Because of its wings it can fly backward at the same speed as it can fly forward. Allah

has granted it two things in front of its mouth which contain the chemical matter and release it in our body

and then from the carbon dioxide that is exhaled from our body, they smell it and they reach the prey.

During the darkness, they find out the veins of our body and they select the veins to suck the blood.

The male mosquito does not drink blood, only the female mosquito does. So that she can acquire

proteins from the human blood. And due to this protein the eggs in its stomach are able to mature. A

mosquito has thousands of lenses with 6 sides in its eyes. This informs the mosquito of numerous angles

and colors of a thing. The upper jaw of a mosquito is very sharp and it has teeth turned backward. It moves

its jaw back and forth like a saw and due to the upper skin it cuts the skin. The mosquito mixes a chemical

matter from its body with the blood; this increases the blood flow and disconnects the defensive system of

our body. The female mosquito then drinks the blood till it’s full and by the time you feel its bite, it has

already accomplished its work.

So is Allah’s creation inferior?

Is its example in the Quran useless?

NOWAY!!

It is you, who has no knowledge, no intellect. That’s why you say such

Those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. When the ones of Imaan, ones of

knowledge, read any verse or ayah, it increases them in faith. And these people call out loud that it is the

truth. They don’t get into the small irrelevant things. They see what is being said, not how it is being said.

For the ones of faith, the smallest example could become a source of guiding them. However on the other

side, as for those who disbelieved, harsh hearted people, they don’t understand. Those whose heart has

become stone, despite the fact that if something great or very beneficial is said to them they will not be

able to understand. And they say/object what Allah intended with such an example. They say why has this

example been cited? By such an example Allah confirms many and enlightens many.

Humans are divided into 2 categories.

1- Listen to Allah and gain guidance

2- Listen to Allah and go astray

Why this difference?

Allah has given each of us an equal intellect, limbs and faculty. The real difference exits in man himself. What

does HE want?

Allah has said in the Quran that he guides him who turns to Him.

Allah has said in Surah Tawbah Ayah 124-125

Those who believe, their Imaan increases and they rejoice. But those who have a disease in their heart, they

have hypocrisy, so it increases their sin upon sin. And they will die as disbelievers.

The Quran guides the one has the urge, who wants it, who believes in it, who doesn’t doubt it. Allah

has mentioned them saying, those who want guidance, Allah increases in their guidance, and grants them

Taqwa. So what is required? An urge. The more truthful you are in gaining it, the more you will gain it.

If you have the urge to learn, Oh Allah I have to learn it at any cost, then Allah will keep opening the

doors for you. However if you are confused, like when difficulty came, you stopped. And then when there was

ease, you started walking again. To gain the ilm of this book you must be truthful. You MUST have an urge in

you, wanting it.

Who are deprived of guidance?

فا سق

This is someone who transgresses the set limits of Allah. It doesn’t mean only being disobedient in your

actions it may also be outright denial and disbelief.

- Those who reject this book, Allah strays them.

- Those who deny it and don’t give preference to it, then why would Allah guide them?

Allah says in Surah Fussilat, Ayah 17, we guided Samud, we showed them the path, but they preferred

blindness over guidance. They chose to be ignorant instead of gaining knowledge. They give priority to the

world.

For guidance 4 things are important:

1. Have strong relation with the Quran and Sunnah because the Prophet said “I am leaving two things

among you, you will never be strayed till you hold on to them firmly”.

2. Ponder- reflect in the signs of the universe. This is a form of Ibadah.

3. Excessively do dua.

4. Gatherings of pious people

Who are فا سق?

1. - Those that break the covenant made with Allah. They don’t have any bond or any

relation with Allah. When we were all born at that time Allah took a promise from all of us. What was

it? It was “Am I not your Rabb?” Surah Al-Araf, Ayah 172,” When your Rabb took out Bani Adam from

their backs and made them a witness for their souls and asked them Am I not your Rabb? Then they all

proclaimed that yes we all witness” Why was this done? So that on the Day of Judgment you don’t say

that you were unaware of the fact that we have a Rabb.

.makes their decisions based on their own desires, not according to Allah’s command فا سق

2. They cut that which Allah has commanded to join. This includes all kinds

of relationships, one between Allah and His servant, one between a man and his parents and relatives,

between him and his neighbors, between one Muslim and another, between one man and another.

They don’t care about the rights of people; the duties, the responsibilities; what do فا سق do? They

break it.

They cut relations with people.

3. , they cause mischief in the world. فا سق is such a person in which you see both the

characteristics of كافر and of a منافق. What are the characteristics of a hypocrite (منافق)?

a. They created mischief; and a فا سق also creates mischief

What are the characteristics of a كافر?

a. They don’t believe in Allah’s words; and a فا سق also doesn’t believe in Allah’s word.

A فا سق takes out excuses in the Quran because he has no intention to accept the advice. He also stops

others from doing good deeds. So Allah says , they are the real losers. Such people ham

themselves.

Then think if these people do the 3 things mentioned above, who will they gain guidance?

They will have an evil abode in the Akhira.

Page 9: Al Baqarah Ayah 26-29 Notes

They have an outer cover of a Muslim, but along with it, they mock their deen. They cause mischief in deens

work.

1. They cut relations with Allah

2. They cut relations with people; no Dhikr, no Salaah, and no relation with Allah’s slaves as well.

“If one is not kind to his parents, even if he is a very pious person, he reads Tahajud, never consider

him pious”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah narrates a person said the Prophet (PBUH) that I have some relatives, I keep terms with

them, they cut it with me, they do evil with me, then I do good with them, they act towards me with ignorance

and I am patient and forbearing to them. The Prophet replied by saying, if you do as you say it is like you are

putting hot ashes in their mouth and there will always be a helper from Allah with you against them. They will

not be able to harm you. Allah will grant you a helper who will guard you until you stay like this.

A breaker of blood relationships will not enter paradise.

The first ones deserving of your kindness are your relatives. And the first among them come your

parents. Then after them your siblings. And then come the rest of your blood relations.

The Quran mentions about fulfilling rights of the relatives in 11 different places.

Surah Ar-Room, Verse 38: give the rights to your relatives, needy and travelers, this way is better for those

who seek the pleasure of Allah and they are the ones successful. So what do we have to do? Visit your

relatives; call them even if they don’t talk to you.

This goes especially for mothers. She is the one who teaches good moral values to children. It is a

mothers job to give their child recognition of their relatives but, to be honest, we don’t. Instead, we tell all

the bad relations to our children. And sometimes mothers create a bad assumption regarding the father in

the children’s heart as well, this is NOT right!

Then Allah says , how can you disobey Allah? , although you were nothing, you

were dead. This refers to the state of man before he is born. Then what happened? , then he gave you

life. How did we get this life? Can you feel it? The breath that we are taking at this very moment is only

happening because of the will of Allah. He has given us this ability.

Ask yourself… where were you a hundred years ago? Where was your house? What was your name? Who were

our relatives? Where were our parents? We don’t know ANYTHING!

Allah is reminding us here, that we had no value!! We were nothing. But then he bestowed His grace upon

you. What did he do? He gave you life. , then again He will give you death. Then what will happen?

, then again you would be brought to life. Then to Him you will be returned.

Page 10: Al Baqarah Ayah 26-29 Notes

Al-Huda Juz 1: Al-Baqarah Ayah 26-29

10

What does this show?

Death was created first. Then life. Then again death. Then again life.

- The first death here refers to the beginning before man received life from Allah.

- The second death comes from when a man completes the lifespan allotted to him.

- The second life will be given on the day of resurrection.

There is a proof for those people who do not believe in resurrection after death.

Allah makes everything in pairs.

You were nothing, and then he gave you life. This is one pair.

Then you will die so how will it be possible that you won’t have life again?

If death continues, then a life has to exist and this new life is what in reality? The life of the Hereafter.

What will happen there?

Then to Him you would be returned for accountability.

Allah is the one who created for you whatever is in the Earth; water, animals, plants.

You will deny THAT Rabb?

× Will you be heedless of that Rabb?

× Will you not give importance to that Rabb?

× Will you forget Him?

Count all the blessings. There are more than 1 million types of animals, numerous types of plants, the sun, the

moon, the large quantity of water. You cannot count the blessings of Allah.

The types of people:

whose end result is متقي .1

whose end result is منافق .2

whose end result is كفر .3

whose end result is فا سق .4

Is the opposite of

What is the order for the فا سق?

Will they gain guidance? No.

Allah says . They are deprived of guidance.

The فا سق don’t like any restrictions and they don’t like any commands. The break the boundaries, the

promises, they cut relations and they spread mischief. They will not have any guidance. Their end result is that

they will be losers.

كفر can be a فا سق

Or a كفر can be a فا سق

Hypocrite is a فا سق because he creates mischief

.is also used for a sinner Muslim فا سق

What are the set limits or commands of Allah that you break?

What relations are you not maintaining? (Not only relatives)

1. First come our relatives

2. Then come our neighbors

3. Then come friends

4. Then people of our city

5. Then people of our country

6. Then the people of the whole world

Why does he not care and why does he create mischief?

Such a person is selfish. Self-conceited. They only question on such a persons mind is “what will I gain?”

These people don’t gain guidance. The example of a متقي was that he is one with a vast heart. He gives to

others. Relations join when one gives not only when one takes.

We think “how will this person benefit us”?

Where we know we will get something, we are good to that person. A place where we don’t get what we

need, we show our reality.

Basic reason for corruption: we do not want to give, we want to take. This is especially true for those people

who are near in a relation. For instance your siblings and your parents. The more one is near, the more we

become careless in fulfilling their rights. So Allah has especially told us to fulfill the rights of our relatives.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said “A breaker of blood relationship shall not enter paradise.”

A فا سق who cuts relations is deprived of guidance because in order to gain guidance, what is necessary?

To reform relations.

Allah has made this Earth a bed and the sky a roof. So this earth is like our house. People living in this world

are like a big family. All of us are the offspring from Prophet Adam (AS). All of us have relations with each

other; some near and some far. We should honor all of them.

From Allah guidance is for those who wish well for others.

Those who realize that after death they will have to go to their Rabb for accountability; it is not possible that

he does not become a good human.

And in the end Allah says that He has knowledge over everything.

He has the keys of the unseen. And He knows what is in the land and in the sea. Even if one leaf falls, he knows

about it. He will know which leaf of which tree has fallen. He will also know whether it is dry or wet.

The lesson:

If He knows all then what should we do?

We can’t lie to Him. We can’t deceive Him?

We started with ilm (knowledge) and the ayah ends with ilm (knowledge).

Even in the gathering of Quran, Allah is watching. Who is sitting with what intention? And who is doing other

work while the Quran is being read? Allah is watching. Nothing in the heaven or the earth that is equal to an

atom is hidden away from Allah. Even a smaller thing than an atom cannot be hidden away from Allah.

Allah knows what you don’t know. He knows what is hidden and what is more hidden. He knows the

whispering, all the secrets of the heart, what we disclose and what we keep secret.

We cannot hide anything from Allah.

“One who is sincere with Allah will also be sincere with people.”
