AKO is a highly Information Technology driven firm, with strongly built IT systems and processes. As a result, we have first-hand access to any emerging issues in law across the world. Due to its IT orientation, firm financial set-up and wealth of experience and expertise AKO has the capacity to provide sound and dependable legal services and support on short notice. The Firm is run by four Partners in collaboration with various Consultants and specialists in areas of research and consultancies. At the firm’s disposal is strong set of support staff including law associates, professional administrative assistants; experienced paralegals and clerks and court process servers, financial and accounts personnel and research assistants.

Called to the bar in 2010, Valentine Ataka is an energy law and policy professional with specialized training and qualification in oil and gas law. He is also an accredited Commercial Mediator qualified by Falicit8 and the Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators

Kevin Othero was admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Moi University.

He is an astute conveyancer, having and concluded numerous conveyancing transactions to various clients, including large

multinationals investing in Kenya. His work involves advising and assisting clients with business establishment in Kenya; advising and preparing documentation for mergers, joint ventures and acquisitions both for local and international clients; property finance and loan securities; conducting legal due diligences and forensics; market entry - regulatory and compliance considerations; advising on property development and management; drafting and reviewing an extensive range of commercial agreements and advising on employment matters.

Kevin’s client portfolio comprises primarily of local and international corporate clients, property developers and foreign investors looking to establish a business presence in Kenya.

Alaka Lugonzo is a Legal and Governance Consultant with a specialization in Energy, Oil Gas and Mining aspects of the extractives industry

She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has an (LLM) in Energy Law and Policy from the University of Dundee in Scotland. Her core interest and passion is in Legal Training, Local Content, Policy and Governance and Gender in the Extractives sector in Kenya as an emerging market.

She has extensive experience having worked with the Kenya Government, including the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining (MOPM), County Governments and the Community that have an economic base in extractives (such as Turkana, Kwale, Lamu and Taita Taveta Counties in Kenya), Development Partners and Funding organisations such as MEDA, Open Society and the Australian High Commission a fundraiser, International development partners such as the IFC, Civil Society Organisations such as Haki Madini, Kenya Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas, cademic institutions such as Strathmore Extractives Baraza, community representative groups and gender representative groups, banks and financial institutions such as Gulf Bank

Alaka Lugonzo Partner

Ms. Kaburu is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Member of the Law Society of Kenya. She engages in a general practice of the law majoring in Commercial Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, Real Estate, and Conveyancing.

Ms. Agasna was admitted to the Kenyan Bar in 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Moi University.

She is a dynamic litigator and has an impressive record of success having handled high profile Court cases.

Agasna specializes in the full gamut of Commercial Law Litigation, Public Finance, Financial Services and Trade Law, including Tax law, Banking law, Public Procurement law, Capital Markets law and Foreign Direct Investments law. She also has a knack for Technology Law and Women’s Rights.

Agasna is a proficient courtroom lawyer and handles matters in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, the High Court, Industrial Court, subordinate courts and specialized dispute resolution tribunals.
