Glanford Curling Club hosted our event. It was a great evening of learning, practice and fun!

Established in 1894, Glanford Curling Club is a three sheet curling facility located at 3091 Homestead Drive, Mount Hope, ON. Their curl-ing season runs from October to mid-April with daytime and evening leagues for men and la-dies, mixed leagues and a fantastic junior pro-gram for children. Board Profile: Mark Long—Student Activities Chair

Mark has been in the HVAC industry for 15+ years and holds a Trade Certificate as a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic. He studied at Fan-shawe College and his apprenticeship was completed at Mohawk College. In 2000 Mark started

working with Change’Air Products & Services as a Service Technician and in 2005 took the posi-tion of Service Manager. At this time Mark also took over the roll as Electrical Designer and served in dual roles until late 2008 when he took on the responsibility in Managing the Engi-neering / R&D Department. In 2012, Change’Air was purchased by Systemair Inc, in which Mark retained the role of Manager of Engineering. Mark’s interests include various sports and ac-tivities and he is actively involved with the Simcoe Youth District Soccer Club as both a Coach and member of the Board. A member of ASHRAE since 2011, Mark has been a member of the Hamilton Chapter Board for the last 3 years serving as the Student Activ-ities Chair.

Student Membership Promotion

The Hamilton Chapter is excited to continue its initiative to promote and support students that wish to explore the opportunities ASHRAE can provide. Design Competition

The 2017 Student Design Competition focuses on a new single-story with mezzanine office and repair building in the Diego Ramirez Islands in Chile, South America. Each team must register online in order to participate. The first deadline for the 2017 competition is May 4th, 2017. ASHRAE will recognize the outstanding student design projects at the 2018 ASHRAE Winter Meeting to be held in Chicago, IL, January 20-January 24, 2018. Low-GWP Refrigerants at

ASHRAE Winter Conference Industry experts will share guidance on how to

incorporate low-global warming potential refrig-erants in sessions at the 2017 ASHRAE Winter

Conference. Among the sessions is a two-part seminar, "Low GWP Alternative Refrigerants and Their Applications."

A review of new classes of low-global warming

potential (GWP) refrigerants is also the focus of a new educational course from ASHRAE Learn-

ing Institute (ALI). The course will be presented for the first time at the 2017 ASHRAE Winter

Conference. The course explains how the changing needs of society are creating require-

ments for new refrigerants to be developed and used. The course also explains the new safety classifications that are being proposed and

some of the ramifications of these new classifi-cations. For more information or to register for

Tech Program Available The 2017 ASHRAE Winter Conference & AHR Expo Technical Program is now available in PDF form as well as through the Personal Scheduler. ASHRAE HVAC Design Training Toronto, ON May 8—12, 2017.

Level 1—Essentials provides attendees with the fundamentals and technical aspects of HVAC design. Attendees will gain practical skills and

knowledge to design and maintain HVAC sys-tems that can be put to immediate use.

Level 2—Applications provides participants with instruction on HVAC system design. The train-

ing is tailored for engineers with advanced ex-perience in the HVAC design field, or those who

have completed HVAC Design: Level 1.

sion" or a "table top demonstration" prior to dinner. After dinner, the main topic of the evening is presented by the "feature speaker". If

The ASHRAE Learning Institute (ALI) is offering five Full-Day Professional Development Seminars and 15 Half-Day Short Courses in conjunction with the 2017 ASHRAE Winter Conference and AHR
