    Product Overview

ProST is outdoor WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE). The ProST, which uses Intel Corporations Rosedale broadband interface, connects IP-enabled devices directly to WiMAX networks. Designed for the residential and small enterprise markets, the device supports high-speed broadband Internet through a Fast Ethernet connection. The ProST ensures high service availability at enhanced ranges, operating in both LOS and NLOS propagation environments. ProST has two models, with (ProST-WiFi) and without (ProST) integrated 802.11b and 802.11g WiFi capability. Each of the two ProST models has two separate variants. ProST can be deployed with a built-in, integral antenna or alternatively, with an external antenna to provide better radio coverage. Requiring professional installation, the ProST is installed outdoors on a pole or wall, enabling optimal positioning for best reception with the BS. Designed for the residential, SOHO, and small to medium enterprise (SME) markets, the device delivers over-the-air, high-speed broadband Internet from the Airspan WiMAX base stations to the end-user. The ProST ensures high service availability at enhanced ranges, operating in both LOS and NLOS propagation environments. ProST is available in the following RF bands1: 1.42 1.52 GHz in TDD mode 3.3 3.5 GHz in TDD mode 3.4 3.6 GHz in FDD mode 3.6 3.8 GHz in FDD mode 3.6 3.8 GHz in TDD mode 4.9 5.0 GHz in TDD mode 5.15 5. 35 GHz in TDD mode 5.47 5. 725 GHz in TDD mode 5.725 5.875 GHz in TDD mode 5.85 5.95 GHz in TDD mode ProSTuses the OFDM signalling format, providing non line-of-sight (NLOS) performance. ProST utilizes 64 QAM, 16 QAM, QPSK, and BPSK modulation technologies by modulating transmitted signals and demodulating the received signals where the original digital message can be recovered. The use of adaptive modulation allows ProST to optimize throughput, yielding higher throughputs while also covering long distances. ProST can be powered by two options:

    1. From an outdoor, weatherproof AC/DC power adapter, providing VDC 2. From an indoor, by Subscriber Data Adapter (SDA), Providing VDC and the Ethernet data

ProST interfaces with the subscriber's LAN through the SDA-1, SDA-4S, SDA-4S/VL Type II , SDA-WiFi and SDA-MSG. ProST connects to the SDA's 100BaseT interface port by a standard 100-meter CAT-5 cable. The SDA also provides the ProST with 48 VDC power supply.

1 Supported channel bandwidths detailed in table 2.3

ProST's and WiMAX interfaces can be managed by Airspan's Airspan WiMAX Web-based management system using a standard Web browser. Alternatively, it can be managed using an SNMP-based network management system (Netspan) implementing standard and proprietary MIBs. In addition, external third-party management systems such as HP OpenView can also manage the ProST using these MIBs (only SW upgrade MIB in SR 6.5 and previous releases). The figures below display a typical installation of ProST (with an integrated antenna):

    1 Physical Interfaces

    ProST Port Description

ProST has two variants, with and without integrated Antenna. For ProST models implementing third-party external antennas, an N-type port is also provided on the front panel:

    On top of that an option of integrated 802.11b and 802.11g WiFi capability can be offered;

ProST provides a 15-pin D-type port for interfacing with the SDA. For convenience, a DB15-to-RJ45 adapter is supplied for attaching to the 15-pin D-type port to allow the usage of RJ-45 connectors for outdoor-to-indoor CAT 5 connectivity. SDA provides three port types, as described in the table below:

Port Label Interface 8-pin RJ-45 RADIO 10/100BaseT towards ProST

    8-pin RJ-45 LAN/PC 10/100BaseT with subscriber's network

RJ-11 POTS Analog voice line connection ( this option is valid on SDA-MSG)

ProST has six SDA options for power and data feeding; they differ by the number of user LAN ports (one or four):

    1. SDA - 1 Type II 2. SDA 4S Type II 3. SDA 4S DC Type II 4. SDA 4S/VL Type II 5. SDA-WiFi 6. SDA- MSG

    Note:

Revision B Airspan Networks Inc. - CONFIDENTIAL Page 8 of 30

All SDA types function as a VLAN Pass-through bridge - Tagged & Untagged packets are forwarded transparently

The SDA-4S is a full 4 switching ports while the SDA-4S/VL isolates between the user ports for security reasons (MTU application when one SDA-4S/VL serves up to 4 separate subscribers)

The SDA WiFi constructed from Power Supply Adaptor (PSA) combined with WiFi extension (same extension used for EasyWiFi), Providing VDC and the Ethernet data. WiFi extension configured with 4 Ethernet ports and WiFi air interface

SDA MSG constructed from Power Supply Adaptor (PSA) combined with VoIP extension (same extension used for EasyVoice), Providing VDC and the Ethernet data. Voice extension configured with2 POTs and 1 Ethernet port.

9.3 ProST UPS The Airspan WiMAX ProST system offers an optional third-party unit providing uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to subscriber devices (voice and data subscriber often require battery backup). The UPS includes a battery to maintain power to the ProST device in the event of a power outage. The UPS unit connects to the subscriber device (i.e. ProST) through the SDA.
