The airline was rapidly expanding into a full-service premium carrier and to differentiate itself in the market, will be harmonising its cabin product across its widebody fleet.

GVH Aerospace provided the full inte-rior reconfiguration service including relocation of monuments, modified first and business class seats, integra-tion of AVOD inflight entertainment systems and installation of mood light-ing. GVH Aerospace supported the manufacture of all required parts, and deployed an on-site engineering team to support the MRO and the customer achieve the aggressive schedule dur-ing the installation and reconfiguration phase.

Highlights The low cost airline had implemented a set of standard entry-into-service modifications into its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft to meet its operatonal requirements.

The aircraft lease contract required the low cost carrier to remove all modifica-tions made to the aircraft upon lease return. GVH Aerospace responded to the tight schedule for lease return and provided the demodification approval for the airline to remove the operator specific modifications expeditiously, minimising any costly delays that often plague end-of-lease checks.

The aircraft leasing company had a requirement to accept the aircraft re-turning from lease and to reconfigure it for the new lessor. All the modifica-tions would occur during the rede-livery checks at the designated MRO facility.

GVH Aerospace provided a turn key solution to certify monument changes made by the previous lessee that were not approved in accordance with the lease contract. GVH Aerospace de-signed a new all-economy cabin con-figuration with both EASA and FAA ap-provals, including the supply of interior parts and dual language placards, and provided on-demand support to the lessor to ensure on-time redelivery of the aircraft to the new lessee.

HELPING AIRLINES COMPETE AND MEETING THEIR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

With the advent of new airlines in the market, both premium and low-cost carriers have to find ways of differenti-ating their service from their competitors to retain customer loyalty. Cabin products no longer comprise of differ-ent cabin classes, seat-back Audio-Video on Demand (AVOD) Inflight Entertainment (IFE) systems and the quality of cabin service. The rapid pace of technological advance in Personal Electronic Devices (PED) drives customer expectations of inflight connectivity and services such as wireless Inflight Entertainment (IFE) and in-seat power for all cabin classes. These can become key differentiating factors that provide airlines with a competitive edge in the hyper competitive airline market. The ongoing search for better airline profitability through operational efficiencies and the need to comply with regulatory mandates requires innovative solutions to equip the existing aircraft in the fleet with equipment and solutions that are not fitted or available at production. The introduction of regulatory mandates such as satellite voice, Controller-Pilot Datalink Communications (CDPLC) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) require the airlines to look for more cost effective solutions than that provided by the aircraft manufacturers.

HELPING MINIMISE UNPLANNED COSTS DURING LEASE REDELIVERIES

With the liberalisation of the air transport industry globally, the nature of airliner ownership has changed dra-matically in the last 20 years. Aircraft leasing companies now own more than 40% of the commercial aircraft in the world. As of 2014, the top 50 lessor’s fleet value is worth US$196bn. This sea change allowed airlines to start operations with lower capital outlay and quicker access to aircraft. As aircraft are moved from one operator to another, it may require re-certification of modifications performed under the lessee’s national airworthiness au-thority or reconfiguration to meet the next lessee’s requirements. This often occurs amidst intense negotiations between the lessor, the current operator and the next prospective operator, and modification service provider need to provide flexible and speedy support to the lessor on pricing of the modifications to support the lessor in structuring the deal, protecting their interest and maximising their financial returns.

For the lessees returning the aircraft, the lease contract may specify more conditions than the aircraft manufac-turer’s planned maintenance requirements. This may include EASA and FAA for all modifications, the choice of spare parts and performance reserves. The key to a successful and efficient lease return lies in presenting the aircraft in the appropriate state and ensuring documentation compliance.

The successful delivery of projects depend on the effective coordination of all the activities including the on-time delivery of modification technical data, materiel and products, and effecient execution of the modification work. Our team of engineers has extensive experience in the Boeing and Airbus fleets, including the most popular nar-row body airliners, the A320 and B737 family, through to the popular wide body airliners of the A330, A340, B747, B767 and B777 family. Our customers include operators of regional transport aircraft, the Bombardier Q-series, ATR-72, Fokker 27/50/70/100, BAE 146 and business jets.

Whether it is a simple structural installation or a complex INMARSAT satellite communication systems installation requiring assessment against DO-178 and DO-254 requirements, we provide scalable solutions that can include project management through to the supply of installation parts kits to facilitate modification embodiment. Our extensive network of suppliers are able to provide IFE equipment, PSUs, monuments, seats, components required for a complete cabin refurbishment and avionics/electrical installation kits required for complex modifications such as installation of satellite communications equipment.
