Welcome to Air Force Research Laboratory’s Air Vehicles Directorate

The Air Vehicles Directorate has a rich heritage that dates back to 1917, when the Engineering Department was organized under the direction of the Army Signal Corps

to apply and advance the research of the Wright brothers. Over the years, the names and organizations have changed. The Directorate is now part of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Materiel Command, and employs scientists and engineers with the expertise and vision to lead the way in aerospace vehicle technology breakthroughs.

The business strategy for Air Vehicles Directorate is guided by its mission to provide affordable, revo-lutionary capabilities to the warfi ghter that address all future threats. The emphasis is on technology investments that support cost-effective, survivable aerospace platforms capable of accurate, quick delivery of a variety of future weapons or cargo anywhere in the world. To achieve this vision, the Directorate focuses on four core competencies: aeronautical sciences, control sciences, structures,

and integration. The business process for Air Vehicles utilizes an integrating concept approach that focuses our resources and technologies to provide future capabilities in the areas of sustainment, unmanned air vehicles, space access and future strike.

Our interaction with other organizations and agencies, both inside and outside the Department of Defense, is vital to our continued success. In that spirit, we produced this brochure to help you with your travel plans. We appreciate your visit and hope that this brochure will make your entire stay more productive and enjoyable.

Please feel free to visit our website at www.va.afrl.af.mil, or contact ourMarketing Offi ce at [email protected], or to call us at 937-255-2074.

AIR VEHICLES ORGANIZATION

The Air Vehicles Directorate is our nation’s lead organization for Air Force air platform technology. The Directorate researches, develops and applies the latest technology for use in military aerospace vehicles. This is accomplished by three product divisions: Aeronautical Sciences, Control Sciences, and Structures. The full spectrum of research, exploratory develop-ment, advanced development, and systems support is performed through carefully selected in-house and contracted efforts and wide-ranging cooperative programs. For more information, please visit our website at www.va.afrl.af.mil.
