atmosphere –the envelope of air which surrounds the earth. air pressure -The pressure exerted by the atmosphere

Gravity- the force which attract the body towards the centre of

the earth. Electrons – negative charge

particle which move around the earth.

Monsoon winds –seasonal winds that bring rain below

from sea to land during summer and vice versa during

winterThunderstorm- serve storms

accompanied by high speed wind, lighthinig and thunder.

• Latitude it is a distance measured from north of an

equator or south of equator to imaginary centre line of

earth.• longitude it is distance of

place measured east or west or prime meridian (0)that

passes through (green which near London) from centre of

earth

wind

The horizontal movement of air is known as wind. it is caused by horizontal difference in atmospheric

pressure. water flows from higher to lower level air flows from area of higher pressure to the area of

lower pressure

Page 9: Air pressure and wind system

measurement of wind directions

the direction of wind can be absorbed with the help of wind

vane which is commonly known as weather cock .

Page 10: Air pressure and wind system

measurement of wind speed

the speed of wind is usually measured with an instrument called anemometer .cup anemometer

are mainly used by metrological station .it consists of 3-4 metals or plastic cups on arms that spins around a vertical pole . in nature the air around us below slowly

or hardly . these changes have great effect on our weather pattern.

BREEZES

Page 13: Air pressure and wind system

Sea breeze

During the day ,while cooler air blows in from the sea to take it

place .this is called as sea breeze.

LAND BREEZE

At night land cools rapidly .the air convection

currents is reversed. this is known as land

breeze.

Monsoon wind’s

The word monsoon has been derived from the Hindi word “mausum”Which means season.

during summer ,the landmasses, especially in Asia become extremely hot .this is because as the mass of

Indian subcontinent gets heated of zone of low pressure develops over it .

Storms

The winds that can rise a lot of dust ,uproot huge Blow away the roof of house and cause a large scale destructions to life and property .such strong wind

are known as storms .

Page 19: Air pressure and wind system

as cooler air is dense there is practically no mixing and the movement along the front of the two air mass

is like it was a movement along solid surface .As huge mass of air rises a vacuum like situation is created and cooler air gushes in at high speed .this is

form of storm

What causes storm ?

Page 20: Air pressure and wind system

Thunderstorm are severe local forms accompanied by lighting and thunder. They occur mostly in tropical

areas .E.G India

Destruction in floods

Page 23: Air pressure and wind system

A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. They can destroy

large buildings, uproot trees and hurl vehicles hundreds of yards. They can also drive straw into

trees. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide to 50 miles long. In an average year, 1000 tornadoes

are reported nationwide.

What is atmosphere ?

Page 28: Air pressure and wind system

answer : The envelope of air

which surrounds the planet earth

is known as atmosphere .

What is wind vane?

Page 32: Air pressure and wind system

Wind vane is used to measure the direction of the wind commonly it is known as weather cock.

what is gravity ?Who discovered gravity ?

Page 34: Air pressure and wind system

gravity is a force which attract our body towards ground. ISAC

NEWTON is a scientist who discovered gravity .

Page 40: Air pressure and wind system

Pressure at any time on earth due to weights is known as pressure
