CONTROL OF AIR

POLLUTING

MICROORGANISMS

1

INTRODUCTION

Healthy indoor air condition is very important

to maintain good health conditions.

This includes keeping the air free of

biological contaminants, which can cause

health problems.

Which include Molds, Infectious bacteria,

dust mites etc.

2

MICROORGANISMS CAUSING

INDOOR AIR

POLLUTION

3

MOLDS

Molds are microbes which grow in moisture

conditions.

4

Molds can enter indoor areas by passive

ventilation or by inappropriate design of the

ventilation system.

They are also emitted by indoor sources like

animals, flowerpots and waste food etc.

These grow in humid conditions in indoors

such as waste food, bathrooms, kitchen .

5

Molds may cause adverse health effects ,

allergies and unpleasant smells and

destroy the indoor air quality.

This could be avoided by proper

maintenance of indoor conditions such as

disposal of waste, proper ventilation and by

assuring proper sanitary conditions.

6

BACTERIA:

Bacteria are small microorganisms which

complement the indoor air pollution.

These are found more in damp places and

potentially hazardous food materials.

Some of the bacteria are highly infectious

and may cause diseases like Asthma,

Sinus, Breathing congestion and allergy.7

These bacteria enters in indoor premises by

means of wind , toxic food materials, which

contains infectious bacteria .

Bacteria can grow in temperatures from 41°F

(5°C) or colder or 135°F (57°C) or hotter.

8

The problems caused by bacteria could be

controlled by providing proper ventilation ,

proper disposal of potentially hazardous food

waste and by ensuring proper sanitation

9

POLLENS:

Pollens are the male gametophyte of

flowering plants.

It is discharged in air by some plants in order

to induce pollination.

Some of the pollen grains are highly allergic

and may cause respiratory problems, nasal

allergy (pollinoisis).

10

It enters the indoor premises by means of

decorative plants , bees and by wind due to

ventilation.

11

Problems caused by pollen in indoor premises could be reduced by inducing proper ventilation and remedial measures to deal with its allergic reactions.

Since pollens are more present in outdoor premises than that of indoor premises, the effects in indoor air quality due to pollen is minor.

12

CONCLUSION:

Hence the indoor air quality should be

maintained properly in order to avoid chronic

air borne diseases and to maintain proper

health conditions.

In order to achieve this, proper ventilation ,

proper disposal of waste and ensuring proper

sanitation is to be done in indoor premises
