Air Quality Meters are widely used in the process of monitoring the

quality of indoor air. Indoor air is of great importance as factors such

as room temperature, humidity and air contaminants play a

significant role in healthy living.

The quality of air inside a room is much more polluted as compared to

the outdoor air. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to make

sure that the air inside the rooms is clear and pure, so for this

purposes air quality meters are used.

Air Analysis constitute an important aspect of protecting the environment, as there are dust particles that

contaminate the air, so to measure the amount of dust particles we need air analysis meters. Air analysis

focuses on eradicating damage in the environment which can be due to green house emissions, source gas

emissions, and ambient gas emissions. Therefore, to examine these emissions, air analysis meters are used

in laboratories and several research organizations to perform several experiments that are free from any

contamination or emissions. The spectrum of components in the air is extremely wide. Therefore, it can vary

from an extremely pleasant fragrance to an over powering unpleasant smell of hydrogen sulfide.

Bacteria are present everywhere around us, even so called the

clean environment. In a study of air borne microbes (bacteria), it

has been revealed by scientists that there are more than 1,800

types of bacteria in air enveloping us. Contamination due to

bacteria happens even in the cleanest of operation theatres and

clean operation wounds, and its development into a full post

operative infection depends on various factors. Bacteria counter is

a clustering of bacteria on a surface obtained from a single cell.

These are genetically identical. The living bacteria can travel in the

air in colonies only, and a bacterium is not capable of surviving as a

single microbe in the air.

CO2 (carbon dioxide) at room temperature, is a colorless,

odorless, incombustible gas which is formed during respiration,

combustion and organic decomposition. It is normally present in a

form of gas. It can be solid at a temperature of less than -78 º C, and

its liquid state, it is found in water.

Short-term contact with CO2 affects respiratory system, and

nervous system. Prolonged exposure can affect visual capacities,

mental capability and discomfort. Although CO2 does not support

combustion, the CO2 gas cylinders can explode when exposed to

heat. Environmental temperatures more than 52ºC are not suitable

to work in with CO2 gas.

CO or Carbon Monoxide is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, and

extremely poisonous gas. It is formed by combustion of carbon in

oxygen at high temperature, and also with oxygen by decomposition

of carbon dioxide at very high temperature.

Formaldehyde or HCHO, is a gas with strong odour, is colorless,

and is water soluble. In solution state it is known as formalin. It is a

VOC in high ambient temperatures and tends to get collected in

indoors in case of high concentration. The largest source of

formaldehyde is the chemical manufacturing industry and is found

in cigarette smoke and also can be formed in the environment

during the burning of fuels or household waste. For formaldehyde

measurement the closed space should be well sealed for 5 - 8

hours before we measure the HCHO concentration.

Halogen is a naturally-occurring chemical element, which is a basic

block of matter that cannot be broken down into simpler form. The

elements fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I) and

astatine (At) are members of Halogen family. Owing to its high

reactivity it is found in form of compound or ion.The Halogen is highly

reactive and therefore, can be harmful to biological organisms. Fl is

corrosive and highly toxic gas. Therefore, Teflon, or copper or steel

should be used to handle it.

Fluorine element of Halogen is highly reactive, its leakage should be

detected in time and measures be undertaken to stop it from causing

harm.

Methane (CH4) is an odourless, flammable, and colorless gas, and a

chief constituent of natural gas. It is a powerful greenhouse gas,

which can be obtained naturally or can be a result of human acts

such as agriculture and fossil fuel production. It has a short lifespan

and is the simplest member of the paraffin series of hydrocarbons.

The rate of methane production depends on many factors such as

amount of rainfall penetrating through organic matter, the

temperature and the type of organic substances. It is also known as

marsh gas because it is produced by anaerobic decomposition of

plants and other organic matter.

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gas is a reddish brown toxic gas with a

characteristic sharp and biting odour and is produced as a result of

partial combustion of fuels such as gasoline. The air surrounding

us contains 70 percent composition of nitrogen. It is a major smog-

forming chemical. It leads to respiratory problems and deteriorates

the conditions of asthma. Nitrogen dioxide is irritating to the upper

respiratory tract and lungs even at low concentrations. Major

sources of NO2 are internal combustion engines, thermal power

stations, and, to a lesser extent, pulp mills, and butane gas heaters

and stoves.

Oxygen gas is a colourless, odourless, and a tasteless gas. It

provides the support system to existence of living organisms on

earth. Without it life is impossible on earth.

It is the most abundant element by mass in Earth's crust. Besides

Hydrogen and Helium, the third most common chemical abundantly

available is Oxygen. It does not at all react with water. It is physically

present in water. The main sources of oxygen are atmosphere and

photosynthesis process.Oxygen (O2) gas though a very important

supporting factor for survival, it's subject to the factors that it should

be present at a level or in a quantity that it doesn't prove harmful

instead of being beneficial.

reacts with other substances and has a half life of 12 hours or less
