AIMS’ Investment Strategy
AIMS Equity Investment Philosophy“Opportunities for enhanced returns exist when securities with excellent business economics can be purchased at a discount to their intrinsic value”.
Notes1. Quantitative modelling of the AIMS Value-Growth Model Portfolio process back to 1995 reported a compound annual return of 18.0% compared to a compound annual return for the S&P/ASX 200 Index of 9.8%, an outperformance of 8.4% on a compound annual basis.

AIMS Small Cap Equity Fund – Our Approach
• We don’t believe the equity market is a perfectly efficient mechanism to assess value. This
creates opportunities for enhanced returns when securities with excellent business economics
can be purchased at a discount to their intrinsic value. We believe in generating returns through
value orientated, long-term views applied with great investment discipline.
• AIMS’ small cap equity team employs a bottom-up relative value style approach to small-caps of
a market capalisation less than A$500 million, favouring companies that generate consistently
superior or improving returns on invested capital. High returns on invested capital are correlated
with superior stockmarket performance.
• We use a quantitative screen across a broad universe of Australian small caps, and only allocate
capital to APX and ASX listed companies that offer the most compelling combination of defendable
financial returns on capital and attractive valuation.
• We manage portfolio risk for liquidity, correlation, as well as sectoral and thematic tilts in order to
avoid being too heavily exposed to any of these risks.
Performance BenefitSmall-caps historically outperform large-caps over multiple time frames due to their higher beta and attractive value.
Attractive ValueWhile valuations are not static, global small caps currently offer attractive value relative to large-caps.
