COMIC RELIEF 2019

On Friday 15th March we will be joining in the fun for Comic Relief! This year our lovely Infant School Council have helped plan our fundraising event which will be the same for both schools. We will be holding a Pyjama mufti day and will have delicious cakes, cookies and milk for sale at breaktime. Children may bring in small change in a named purse/wallet for the cake sale. Any cake donations will be very gratefully received!

This year we are asking for £1 mufti charity donations to be paid on parentpay due to being cashless in the office. This will then be sent directly to Comic Relief. There will also be opportunities for buying Red noses across both schools from Monday 11th March. Please bring in £1.25 if you would like to buy one.

We look forward to seeing you all cosy in your pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers for mufti in support of Comic Relief! Don’t forget suitable outside shoes for changing into at lunch and playtimes. Thank you for your continued support, and thank you Miss Lewis for organising it!

LONDON TRIP

Years 4 and 5 set off on Tuesday morning on an adventure they will never forget - a trip to our nation’s capital for a visit to the British Museum in fabulous Bloomsbury. Two expectant year groups set off on their respective coaches,

eagerly awaiting a look around some of the most spectacular treasures of the Ancient Egyptian civilisation.

The coach took us past some amazing sites - The O2, London Bridge, The Gherkin, The Shard, The Walkie Talkie Building. What a way to start the trip! When we finally arrived, a tour around 3000+ years worth of history ensued, condensed into only a matter of hours (with, of course, a visit to the gift shop!)

We saw a wide variety of different Egyptian artefacts, from tombs to mummies, sarcophaguses to Egyption jewellery. It was a day to remember. A massive thank you to Mr Thrower for all his hard work in organising this exceptional and successful trip. A huge thank you to all parent helpers, staff and most importantly, the children, who made this visit such a massive success and so very enjoyable.

YEAR 2 GREAT FIRE OF LONDON DAY

Year 2 children spent the morning reenacting the Great Fire of London last week. Children were escaping from their houses to the River Thames, buying tickets to get on boats, passing buckets of water down the narrow streets, trying to pull down houses, burying their precious items in soil and exploding houses following the King’s orders. They then wrote fantastic diary entries of the experience!

RECEPTION TRIP TO HAMPDEN PARK

Reception went on a bear hunt at Hampden Park this week. With their binoculars, they spotted lots of bears hiding in the woods! The children then read

the story, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and joined in with the actions. As a treat, the children had a play in the park and had a walk around the pond to see the ducks. The children were impeccably behaved and were an absolute credit to the school. The Reception team would also like to say a big thank you to all of the parent volunteers that helped out!

WORLD BOOK DAY 2019

A HUGE thank you for helping us make our World Book Day such a roaring success. It was lovely to see that so many of you came along to enjoy breakfast with a book before school. From Reception to Year 6, there was an amazing array of book character costumes and the children looked fantastic.

Meanwhile in the Junior School, children developed their story telling skills, including taking part in a sound effects workshop.

At the very end of the day, both schools mixed year groups together and took part in a buddy reading session. Advance warning…. 364 more

days to go until you need to prepare your next book character costume! A MASSIVE thank you to our reading leaders for organising such a memorable and enjoyable day - Ms Castle Mercer and Miss Vincent. You are both amazing!

INFANT WORLD BOOK DAY - TEACHER PERFORMANCE

A huge well done to the Parkland Infant Teachers for their annual World Book day Performance. The children all enjoyed the ‘Room on the Broom’ show and completed some wonderful work based on this book. Thank you Miss Vincent for organising this! What a special treat!

EXTREME READING COMPETITION 2019

We have received some fabulous entries of reading a book in an unusual, but safe, place. However we have been asked by some children if there is still time to enter a photograph; therefore we have extended the closing date to the 14th March. Please email any additional entries to the office of either school with details of your child’s name and class. We look forward to receiving further entries. Please note that these photos may be used on the school website or newsletter.

MATHS WEEK 2019

It has been a busy time at the Infant School this week! The children have been taking part in Maths Week. They have been playing games, going on treasure hunts and solving problems to do with place value, adding, subtracting, shape and measures. They have had LOTS of fun and have learnt a lot. Thank you to all the teachers for all of their hard work! A HUGE thank you to Miss Jewell for organising such a splendid week! We love numbers!
