Transcript of AIESEC Alexandria April Members Newsletter
pril passed, and as we approach towards the
end of Q2 and with the applications for new
positions to be announced soon enough,
every function is working hurriedly these days to
achieve rapid development, working as hard to align
to the crammed plan. While everyone is engaged in
their separate affairs, following their separate plans
and probably boosting their own numbers, there
hasn’t been much thinking about the big picture! The
Bigger Picture!
Grab a moment and think about this; how does
boosting TN, EP, exchange numbers or even
percentage of development support our own self-
development, and how much does it contribute to our
“Peace and fulfillment of human kind potentials”? If
being soaked into thinking of numbers overwhelms us
from thinking of actual Impact, then AIESEC is not
giving much to us as we think we’re giving back; if
every time you go on a sales visit you’re more
concerned with hitting the highest pitch in number
not impacting change or offering a chance of
experience, then we haven’t yet grasped the idea of
AIESEC, which goes far beyond the conformed idea
and the misunderstanding of the national and
international competition.
We’re not writing this to remind you of the bigger
picture nor tell you what it initially is, we’re here
because we’re intrigued to know: why do you do what
you do and what’s your bigger picture?

LEADERSHIP
Day! AIESEC Alexandria’s Mini Conference
Believing in its responsibility to seed leadership, not
only within its own members but throughout
AIESEC Egypt, AIESEC Alexandria held the
initiative to organize the Leadership day, a one day
mini conference, on Friday the 13th of April aiming to
allow an open space for members to discover the
leader inside. In the presence of AIESEC AUC, 6th
of October, CU and even el Mansoura, the
conference took place in Acacia Resorts, in
Alexandria.
As usual, the OC, facis and the chair, Nada Morsi
warmed up the day with a quick performance of Roll
Calls and warm ups, then after setting the agenda,
she shared with us the story of how zero can
generate something from scratch. Then, as an Ice
Breaker, the OC started forming teams including
members from different LCs allowing some time and
space for each team to create their own shout and
name.
Nevertheless, after the prayers, the first session,
held by Kareem Abdel-Azeem, started by a brief
intro to leadership, setting example with Michael
Jordan, and a small debate on whether a leader is
made or born. Followed by this, Ahmed Salem -aka
Kalabala held the second session which was mainly
about the difference between a leader and a
manager and what made this one special is how
Kalabala engaged the whole members in debates
and conversations, leaving an area of open space
without spoon-feeding. The third session, also held
by Kareem was about self and team leadership with
a very engaging workshop in a form of competition
between all participating teams.
Now, in the
fourth session,
Mohamed Ouf
–former LCP
with the help
of Mina
Shakhloul and
Kareem Abdel-
Azeem
delivered a LEAD session which they brought from
EuroXpro that demonstrates four leadership
techniques mostly used by leaders, the session was
somehow engaging with music and activities which
left each member to discover whichever technique
they found most suitable.
The fifth session, delivered by Alaa Nabil –Alumni,
was on how important a leader should have a print
in whatever position their taking. Groups were
divided then and each discussed how what they
learn as leaders in AIESEC can affect their outside
life and influence other people.
Closing the event and led by Ahmed Salem, ‘the
open space’ session was a perfect closure for such
an intense day. Everyone was allowed to stand on
the spotlight and share something they have
learned, been affected with, or changed their views
throughout the day; members like Peter Shakhloul,
or Vice presidents, like AbdelRahman El-Soueify or
even Alumni as Ahmed Salem and others, stepped
out and shared with the others some stories.
TTL was a great achievement for AIESEC, talent
management function, especially the Events team.
So a very big Chapeau goes to Nada Hazem,
Events team leader, and her members for their
great effort!
To note, this
mini-conference
is part of the
Global LEAD
program that
our LC is now trying to implement, to create and
develop a leadership pipeline for the future of the
LC; for more information on LEAD, hover down on
this wiki.
MOMENTUM ‘12 Momentum this year was a little bit extra special, because the OC was from AIESEC Alexandria so the spirit as always
was epic, also Momentum comes as the last conference the current MC will witness, as MCP, Enas Siam, stated.
Momentum was only for the leadership body of AIESEC Egypt, as always, it included only two tracks, one for the EB
and the other for the TLs, of course with joint sessions. In one session, MCP shared with the participants the 2012 “Q1
Reports” which showed how each LC is doing and how much we’ve reached in our organizational goals. Finally, from
delegates’’ point of view, Momentum was a success where everyone has really had a good time, and some enriching
and informative sessions!
Finance and Legalities
This month, finance has been doing great efforts and
big achievements. Now, our LC office has finally an
installed door and a telephone line, and expected that
we get internet access within 2-3 weeks. Also, Ahmed
El-Banna reports that investments in Momentum were
successful with over 30% net profit.
