Ocala’s PROFESSIONALS F aith and Don Doiron, originally from New Jersey, have called Oak Run home for more than a decade. They loved their well-kept house the second they saw the little hill that it was situated on. However, the one thing they never really liked, but sort of made peace with over the years, was the color of the kitchen and bathrooms. “They were pretty dat- ed,” Faith remembers. “The bathrooms were pink, as was the kitchen. We started in the kitchen and then worked our way to the bathrooms. Most everything was going to have to go.” Faith and Don wanted to preemptively update the bathroom to accommodate their needs as they age, in ad- dition to “getting rid of the pink,” Don quickly adds. The jetted tub would be replaced with a walk-in shower that could also be wheelchair-accessible, even though neither of the two has any trouble getting around at the moment. Their home remodeling project got off to a frustrating start when Faith’s initial calls mostly went unreturned, until a local store referred her to Jim LaValle, the local owner of Homespac- es. Then, the experience changed completely. “I called Jim about 2:30, at 4:30 he was here, and by 6:00 we had a plan,” Faith recalls. “He was so efficient and knew instinctively what I wanted to do. He has a really good eye for design.” The price quote was more than fair and Faith set a strict budget for the project, knowing full well that it could easily bal- loon out of control with lots of unnecessary upgrades. “I told Jim, ‘Don’t let me go over this’ and he didn’t,” she says. “We stayed right in the budget and there were no surprises.” Jim’s crew gutted the master bath, basically starting from a blank canvas. Faith and Don Doiron, originally from New Jersey, have called Oak Run home for more than a decade. They loved their well-kept house the second they saw the little hill that it was situated on. However, the one thing they

never really liked, but sort of made peace with over the years, was the color of the kitchen and bathrooms.

“They were pretty dat-ed,” Faith remembers. “The bathrooms were pink, as was the kitchen. We started in the kitchen and then worked our way to the bathrooms. Most everything was going to have to go.”

Faith and Don wanted to preemptively update the bathroom to accommodate their needs as they age, in ad-

dition to “getting rid of the pink,” Don quickly adds. The jetted tub would be replaced with a walk-in shower that could also be wheelchair-accessible, even though neither of the two has any trouble getting around at the moment.

Their home remodeling project got off to a frustrating start when Faith’s initial calls mostly went unreturned, until a local store referred her to Jim LaValle, the local owner of Homespac-es. Then, the experience changed completely.

“I called Jim about 2:30, at 4:30 he was here, and by 6:00 we had a plan,” Faith recalls. “He was so efficient and knew instinctively what I wanted to do. He has a really good eye for design.”

The price quote was more than fair and Faith set a strict budget for the project, knowing full well that it could easily bal-loon out of control with lots of unnecessary upgrades.

“I told Jim, ‘Don’t let me go over this’ and he didn’t,” she says. “We stayed right in the budget and there were no surprises.”

5BEFORE: The Doirons’ master bathroom was dated and “very pink,” according to Don.

lowed Faith and Don to get a real appreciation of the Homespaces team’s dedication and professionalism.

“We were gone two weeks of that time,” Faith recalls, “and we felt trustworthy enough of Jim and his crew that we let them keep working. One person had the key and came every morning to unlock what they needed, and Jim came by often. Everyone who entered our home was so respectful of our space.”

As with any project this size, there are always challenges which must be overcome, which Jim read-ily acknowledges.

“To be honest, we did have a few bumps in the road,” Jim says. “But through the relationship I had built with Faith, we were able to address the issues, and give her the bathroom she always wanted.”

Now the bathroom is a showplace, with clear glass reaching to the ceiling, lots of dark woods that feature details that match their bedroom furniture, and countertops that are anything but pink. The new space is lovely and inviting, “a gift” the couple gave to themselves.

“We’ve waited for almost 70 years to have a bathroom this nice,” Faith shares. “It’s beautiful. I love it.”

3AFTER: Now, the dark woods and contempo-rary tile and glass choices have made their master bathroom into a spa-like retreat.
