CASE NO. 594S Consider an appeal to City Council
regarding Architectural Review Boarddenial of monument signs for the CVSproperty located at 4600 Broadway
SUMMARY The applicant is seeking to appeal the
decision of the ARB to deny 2monument signs for the CVS property.

BACKGROUND
On September 10, 2015 the ARBreviewed an application for requestedsignage for the CVS property.
The ARB approved the requestedsignage except for 2 requestedmonument signs based on thefollowing:

The requested monument signs wouldexceed the number of signs permittedby code.
Due to the location of the building tothe street and the relation of themonument sign (close proximity) to thepermitted wall signs additional signagewould not be required.

The ARB decision to deny therequested monument signs would beconsistent with previous sign decisionsmade by the ARB.

POLICY ANALYSIS Per Sec. 15-32 (b): Freestanding business
or office building. (1) Normally, only one (1) external
identification sign shall be permittedattached or inset in a building that facesa street bordering that business or officebuilding.

or office building. (2) Buildings that face more than one (1)
street may have an identification signfacing each street.
The applicant was requesting 4 signs for thesubject property 2 wall signs and 2 monument signs

ARB DECISION
On September 10, 2015 the ARBreviewed the case and approved therequested signage except for the 2requested monument signs based onthe following:

REASONS FOR ARB DENIAL
1. The requested monument signs wouldexceed the number of signs permittedby code.
2. Due to the location of the building tothe street and the relation of themonument sign (close proximity) to thepermitted wall signs additional signagewould not be required.

3. The ARB decision to deny therequested excess monument signswould be consistent with previous signdecisions made by the ARB.

website.
