I think the grandfather (Abuelo) plays the fathering role in this story. Although in the story Ysrael , Rafa is projected as being a father-like figure over Yunior, the story Aguantando, shows that Abuelo fathers over both Rafal and Yunior. Throughout the story Abuelo takes on different elements of fatherhood ranging from discipline, (like when he “oversees” Yunior “timeouts”), to supportive (when he reinsures Yunior that he will have a good time away from home). In addition he also plays the typical grandfather-like character when he talks about historical events with his grandsons. In addition to being like a father to the “boys,” he also takes the role of a husband in the sense that he is there for the mother, and assists her in the way a typical husband would.

Question: Who do you think plays the role of the fathering figure in this story?

I think the grandfather (Abuelo) plays the fathering role in this story. Although in the
