POTATO

For cultivation of potato the land must have assured irrigation facility; the soil should be friable, porous and well

drained as far as possible; the soil pH should within the range of 4.8-5.4 (refer individual soil health card); the land

should be levelled and sowing must be avoided in any depression, where there may be problem of water logging; the

land should be well ploughed to fine tilth to a depth of 30 cm.

Standradize Precipitation Index for monsoon period for

the state as a whole remain mildly dry to wet. Rain

particularly in Dhalai, North and Unakuti District remain

mildly wet while all other district remain mildly dry. Due

to intermittent rain moisture in the state so far is in good

condition. Soil mositure is favorable for sowing of

winter vegetable.

Agriculture overall in the state is so far good. Aman rice

is in flowering stage. Rain in previous days found helpful

for growth of the crop.

AMAN RICE

Crop is at physiological maturity stage. Drain out excess water from the field and don’t allow water till harvesting of

crop.

Land may be prepared for cultivation of potato. Land with assure irrigation only be chosen. The soil should be friable,

porous and well drained. Soil pH may be tested before planting as the optimum pH for better cultivation is 4.8 to

5.4. Use disease free, well sprouted seeds weighing 40 – 50 grams. Plant the tubers at 10 cm apart. A 45cm row to row

spacing may be maintained for better germination and production.

Land may be ploughed 4 to 5times followed by labeling. Land should be weed free and minimum moisture must be

maintained. Prevailing weather condition is most suitable for the sowing. Sowing must be completed within this month.

Critical period for irrigation is flowering and grain filling. FYM @ 10q per kani (1/6 of ha) may be required along with

20kg Urea, 40kg SSP and 10kg MoP per kani. Line sowing may be preferred maintaining plant to plant spacing 10 to

12cm and row to row spacing 25 to 30cm. Seed may be required @ 1.25 kg per kani. Recommended varieties are

Ragini, NUDH-21, Baruna, SEZ-2, Pusa Agrani etc.

POTATO

For cultivation of potato the land must have assured irrigation facility; the soil should be friable, porous and well

drained as far as possible; the soil pH should within the range of 4.8-5.4 (refer individual soil health card); the land

should be levelled and sowing must be avoided in any depression, where there may be problem of water logging; the

land should be well ploughed to fine tilth to a depth of 30 cm.

POTATO

For cultivation of potato the land must have assured irrigation facility; the soil should be friable, porous and well

drained as far as possible; the soil pH should within the range of 4.8-5.4 (refer individual soil health card); the land

should be levelled and sowing must be avoided in any depression, where there may be problem of water logging; the

land should be well ploughed to fine tilth to a depth of 30 cm.

1.25 kg per kani. Recommended varieties are Ragini, NUDH-21, Baruna, SEZ-2, Pusa Agrani etc.
