The book details several key fields within forestry, including forest health, economics, policy, utilization, and forestry careers. Chapters deal specifically with forest products and harvesting, recreation, wildlife habitats, tree anatomy and physiology, and ethics. Unlike other introductory forestry texts, which focus largely on forest ecology rather than practical forestry concepts, Introduction to Forestry encompasses economic, ecological, and social aspects providing a uniquely balanced text. The wide range of experience of the contributing authors equips them especially well to identify missing content from other texts in the area and address topics currently covered in corresponding college course.

“Agroforestry Strategies for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation” was conceived with the primary aim of consolidating the existing research inputs under four major themes viz. i) Climate Change - Issues and Concerns ii) Carbon Sequestration iii) Agroforestry Options and Strategies and iv) Carbon Finance and Carbon Offset. Chapters in theme 1 include research inputs about the basic information on the causes and impacts of climate change on various ecosystems. Methodologies for estimating the above and below ground carbon sequestration potential find a prominent place in theme 2 while chapters under theme 3 incorporates studies pertaining to various site specific agroforestry practices / strategies

suitable for different agroclimatic regions of India. These valuable scientific data will be of great use to researchers, academicians and students of forestry, environment and other natural resource disciplines. Exploring the possibility of monetary conversion of carbon sequestration through agroforestry is of great commercial interest not only at the local level but also at the international level. Experiences by stakeholders in this context are included in the chapters under theme 4. These information will be of immense help to researchers, policy makers and bureaucrats to devise suitable research and policy proposals. Hence, this compilation will act as an important resource base and a ready reckoner for professionals, researchers, academicians, policy makers and bureaucrats besides serving the needs of the students of various categories.

The book entitled “Documentry of Agaricomycetous Mushrooms of India” provides updated compilation of basic data and information on 1920 mushroom taxa belonging to 207 genera spread over 35 families and 3 orders of fleshy fungi published till date from India. The broad classification adopted for compilation of this treatise is largely based on the latest version of the Dictionary of Fungi authored by Kirk et al. (2008). In this documentary the Orders, Families, Genera and Species are arranged in alphabetic order under respective taxonomic category. For a particular taxon, the name of the class, order, family,

respective authority and citation has been given as per authentic information available in the MycoBank and Index Fungorum. For every species and variety listed under respective genus, the exact information about the state of its occurrence and the documenting author has been provided. At the end of the documentary the references, which appeared in the main body of the manuscript are listed in an alphabetical order. This data base is likely to set the tone for more explorative work and will provide a significant base line. The gilled and poroid mushrooms embrace diverse and fascinating arrays of fleshy fungi. They are of great interest because of their relevance in nutritional and neutraceutical aspects, mycorrhizal association with plants, and as saprophytes and parasites. This book will be of interest to diverse group of users and we understand clearly that there may have been some inadvertent omissions in our compilation.

About the book

AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION

It is puzzling that, in spite of major efforts by Indian government, India could not able to become self-sufficient in pulses and higher prices of pulses became a larger political issue year-after-year. Keeping this, the book critically examined the Indian pulses production, consumption, demand, and supply, trade and policy scenario. The trends in consumption pattern, production technology, and demand and supply gap by 2025 for each pulse crop with special emphasis on chickpea, pigeonpea, moong, urd and masur were presented. The book provides both technological and policy solutions to bridge the growing demand supply gap and to make India become self-sufficient in pulses production. The book can be a good reference for crop scientists, social scientists, agricultural economists and also policy makers to understand the pulses sector in India.

The title looks attractive but the breeding programmes cannot be carried out as our vegetable crops or other field crops due to various problems associated with genetic analysis, variety/hybrid development, inbred development in plantation crops. This book made an attempt to compile all such basic information for important spice and plantation crops. It consists of 21 chapters including question bank, of which 14 chapters meant for specific crops and rest 6 chapters for basic information such as history of breeding, centres of origin, hybridization, clonal selection, polyploidy breeding and molecular breeding for spice and plantation crops. This book covered with detailed issues like importance of breeding, botany of the crop, genetic resources of the crop, genetics of the crop, inheritance pattern of the important economic traits of the crop, breeding objectives, breeding

m e t h o d s v i z s e l e c t i o n , hybridization etc and various varieties or hybrids achieved in each of the spice and plantation crops. The specific crops are coconut, areca nut, cashew, coffee, tea, betel vine, oil palm, cocoa, black pepper, cardamom, zinger, turmeric, coriander, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Present book Antimicrobial properties of medicinal plants consists 235 medicinal species of natural Forest have been identified and tested in vitro and in vivo for their antimicrobial properties against bacterial and fungal pathogens mostly causing diseases in vegetables and agricultural crops. In additions, authors also incorporated the findings of different scientists worked on various medicinal plants Worldwide and their recommendations in curing the diseases of human. It has been observed that many medicinal plants are known by more than one local name, thereby creating confusion about their

correct botanical identity. Several books are available on the properties and uses of medicinal plant however; illustrations given in flora are either hand sketches or lacking color photographs which do not help in identification of plants to non experts. Considering this fact, the authors have incorporated colour photographs in this book.

This book, A guide on protected and open field cut flower cultivation is an effort to make available all information regarding national and global scenario on floriculture, production techniques right from land preparation to harvesting and also post harvest technologies. The book also deals with plant protection measures to manage major pests and diseases and techniques to overcome physiological disorders of various cut flowers. In addition to protected cultivation of cut flowers, we have also included cultivation of certain other cut flowers which are grown under open-field conditions.• Protected structures for flower cultivation • Protected cultivation of major cut flowers • Cultivation of specialty cut flowers • Cultivation of minor cut flowers • Cultivation of open field cut flowers • Cold chain management in floriculture • Cost economics for cultivation of major cut flowers

With the advancement in the technology and instrumentation, the determination of soil parameters have become relatively easier, more accurate and bit faster. However, the advancements in analytical techniques in soil physics that are being followed here and there, needs to be brought in a single text along with existing, commonly known methods of soil physical analysis in an updated form. The book consists of about 15 chapters explaining the principles, apparatus, procedures, examples of calculations, precautions and related references thereof. The instruments are presented through photographs, line diagrams or sketches for easy and quick apprehension by the readers. More emphasis has been given on practical aspects, practical utility of determining such parameters and to present the principles and procedure in more simplified manner.
