Department of Agriculture is the leading academic department providing agricultural science training in the country

Degree ProgramDegree Program• The Department of Agriculture offers a

four-year course, which leads to the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.- 7 Semesters Full time lectures and one semester of Industrial Training

• Department reviewed the undergraduate curriculum in consultation with the stakeholders in industry, government and the community

• Implemented in 2003 first intake of students enrolled on the new curriculum, and the old curriculum was phased out in 2006.

• Three Track System : Science, Production, Development and Extension

3. The South Pacific Institute of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SPISARD)

• SPISARD is the new initiative by the Department to meaningfully contribute towards rural development.

• The institute provides a conduit for the Agriculture Department, and the University as a whole, to deliver appropriate technology and professional advice to about 85 % of the rural population in PNG.

• SPISARD, as a knowledge and technology delivery model,

accommodates the concept of model villages that becomes the focal point for onsite activities and demonstration of the new farming and community development initiatives / technology.

• Programs includes: capacity building, training, technology transfer, on-farm research, students’ industrial training, high school programs
