CURRICULUM VITAEAgnieszka Holland (born November 28, 1948 in Warsaw) is one of Poland's most prominent filmmakers. She went to Czechoslovakia to study film directing at
FAMU in Prague. She began her film career working in Poland with Krzysztof Zanussi as assistant director, and Andrzej Wajda as her mentor.
Since 1981 she works abroad - in Germany, France, and now in the United States. She lives in France, in Brittany.
Besides making films Holland translates also Czech literature into Polish.

AWARDS AND
PRIZES Agnieszka Holland is the current chairwoman of
European Film Academy founded in 1989 by its first president Ingmar Bergman.
She is the recipient of many prestigious awards at festivals – in Cannes, Gdansk, Berlin, Montreal, Golden Globe Award.
She was nominated for an Oscar three times - for "Bitter Harvest" (1985), "Europa, Europa" (1991) and "In Darkness" (2011).
She was also awarded Poland's prestigious Officer's Cross of the Order of Restitution for her outstanding contribution to Polish culture.
In 2002, she received the Special Eagle Award for her consistent artistic achievement in Poland and abroad.
She was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the 1999 Film Festival in Las Vegas.
