  • 3. Customs Duties Customs duties are levied on 5% of CIF value or specific to the goods concerned. Some goods, including all transit cargo, are exempt from duty If cargo is transiting via the UAE to another GCC country, customs duty must be paid at the in-transit border point If customs duty is paid at port of discharge within the UAE for in-transit cargo, no customs duty will be applicable at the in-transit border point to other GCC countries however this is subject to Customs Dept. approval The duty is 5% for all goods with the exception of cargo having duty exemption Goods may be imported duty free and stored in any of the free zones in the UAE. Subsequently, goods which are then transferred to the UAE from these zones, are subject to minimal duty payments currently of 5% of CIF value depending on the product Import duty is not usually levied on samples imported into Dubai and the Northern Emirates. However, for goods of exceptionally high value, prior permission to import and arrangements for free entry must be made with the Director of Customs, preferably through a local sponsor or agent.
